Edge-assisted indexing for highly dynamic and static data in mixed reality connected autonomous vehicles

The integration of Mixed Reality(MR)technology into Autonomous Vehicles(AVs)has ushered in a new era for the automotive industry,offering heightened safety,convenience,and passenger ***,the substantial and varied data generated by MR-Connected AVs(MR-CAVs),encompassing both highly dynamic and static information,presents formidable challenges for efficient data management and *** this paper,we formulate our indexing problem as a constrained optimization problem,with the aim of maximizing the utility function that represents the overall performance of our indexing *** optimization problem encompasses multiple decision variables and constraints,rendering it mathematically infeasible to solve ***,we propose a heuristic algorithm to address the combinatorial complexity of the *** heuristic indexing algorithm efficiently divides data into highly dynamic and static categories,distributing the index across Roadside Units(RSUs)and optimizing query *** approach takes advantage of the computational capabilities of edge servers or RSUs to perform indexing operations,thereby shifting the burden away from the vehicles *** algorithm strategically places data in the cache,optimizing cache hit rate and space utilization while reducing *** quantitative evaluation demonstrates the superiority of our proposed scheme,with significant reductions in latency(averaging 27%-49.25%),a 30.75%improvement in throughput,a 22.50%enhancement in cache hit rate,and a 32%-50.75%improvement in space utilization compared to baseline schemes.

Objectives We aim to estimate geographic variability in total numbers of infections and infection fatality ratios(IFR;the number of deaths caused by an infection per 1,000 infected people)when the availability and quality of data on disease burden are limited during an *** We develop a noncentral hypergeometric framework that accounts for differential probabilities of positive tests and reflects the fact that symptomatic people are more likely to seek *** demonstrate the robustness,accuracy,and precision of this framework,and apply it to the United States(U.S.)COVID-19 pandemic to estimate county-level SARS-CoV-2 *** The estimators for the numbers of infections and IFRs showed high accuracy and precision;for instance,when applied to simulated validation data sets,across counties,Pearson correlation coefficients between estimator means and true values were 0.996 and 0.928,respectively,and they showed strong robustness to model *** the county-level estimators to the real,unsimulated COVID-19 data spanning April 1,2020 to September 30,2020 from across the U.S.,we found that IFRs varied from 0 to 44.69,with a standard deviation of 3.55 and a median of *** The proposed estimation framework can be used to identify geographic variation in IFRs across settings.

We apply variational autoencoders(VAE)to X-ray diffraction(XRD)data analysis on both simulated and experimental thin-film *** show that crystal structure representations learned by a VAE reveal latent information,such as the structural similarity of textured diffraction *** other artificial intelligence(AI)agents are effective at classifying XRD data into known phases,a similarly conditioned VAE is uniquely effective at knowing what it doesn’t know:it can rapidly identify data outside the distribution it was trained on,such as novel phases and *** capabilities demonstrate that a VAE is a valuable AI agent for aiding materials discovery and understanding XRD measurements both‘on-the-fly’and during post hoc analysis.

Response patterns of simulated corn yield and soil nitrous oxide emission to precipitation change

Background Precipitation plays an important role in crop production and soil greenhouse gas ***,how crop yield and soil nitrous oxide(N_(2)O)emission respond to precipitation change,particularly with different background precipitations(dry,normal,and wet years),has not been well *** this study,we examined the impacts of precipitation changes on corn yield and soil N_(2)O emission using a long-term(1981-2020,40 years)climate dataset as well as seven manipulated precipitation treatments with different background precipitations using the DeNitrification-DeComposition(DNDC)*** Results showed large variations of corn yield and precipitation but small variation of soil N_(2)O emission among 40 *** corn yield and soil N_(2)O emission showed near linear relationships with precipitation based on the long-term precipitation data,but with different response patters of corn yield and soil N_(2)O emission to precipitation *** yield showed a positive linear response to precipitation manipulations in the dry year,but no response to increases in precipitation in the normal year,and a trend of decrease in the wet *** extreme drought treatments reduced corn yield sharply in both normal and wet *** contrast,soil N_(2)O emission mostly responded linearly to precipitation *** in precipitation in the dry year reduced more soil N_(2)O emission than those in the normal and wet years,while increases in precipitation increased more soil N_(2)O emission in the normal and wet years than in the dry *** This study revealed different response patterns of corn yield and soil N_(2)O emission to precipitation and highlights that mitigation strategy for soil N_(2)O emission reduction should consider different background climate conditions.

An all optical approach for comprehensive in-operando analysis of radiative and nonradiative recombination processes in GaAs double heterostructures

We demonstrate an all optical approach that can surprisingly offer the possibility of yielding much more information than one would expect,pertinent to the carrier recombination dynamics via both radiative and nonradiative processes when only one dominant deep defect level is present in a semiconductor *** applying a band-defect state coupling model that explicitly treats the inter-band radiative recombination and Shockley-Read-Hall(SRH)recombination via the deep defect states on an equal footing for any defect center occupation fraction,and analyzing photoluminescence(PL)as a function of excitation density over a wide range of the excitation density(e.g.,5-6 orders in magnitude),in conjunction with Raman measurements of the LO-phonon plasmon(LOPP)coupled mode,nearly all of the key parameters relevant to the recombination processes can be *** include internal quantum efficiency(IQE),minority and majority carrier density,inter-band radiative recombination rate(Wr),minority carrier nonradiative recombination rate(Wnr),defect center occupation fraction(f)),defect center density(Nt),and minority and majority carrier capture cross-sections(σt andσtM).While some of this information is thought to be obtainable optically,such as IQE and the Wr/Wnr ratio,most of the other parameters are generally considered to be attainable only through electrical techniques,such as current-voltage(Ⅰ-Ⅴ)characteristics and deep level transient spectroscopy(DLTS).Following a procedure developed herein,this approach has been successfully applied to three GaAs double-heterostructures that exhibit two distinctly different nonradiative recombination *** method greatly enhances the usefulness of the simple PL technique to an unprecedented level,facilitating comprehensive material and device characterization without the need for any device processing.

Improving the reaction mix of a Pichia pastoris cell-free system using a design of experiments approach to minimise experimental effort

A renaissance in cell-free protein synthesis(CFPS)is underway,enabled by the acceleration and adoption of synthetic biology *** has emerged as a powerful platform technology for synthetic gene network design,biosensing and on-demand *** primarily of bacterial origin,cell-free extracts derived from a variety of host organisms have been explored,aiming to capitalise on cellular diversity and the advantageous properties associated with those ***,cell-free extracts produced from eukaryotes are often overlooked due to their relatively low yields,despite the potential for improved protein folding and posttranslational *** we describe further development of a Pichia pastoris cell-free platform,a widely used expression host in both academia and the biopharmaceutical *** a minimised Design of Experiments(doe)approach,we were able to increase the productivity of the system by improving the composition of the complex reaction *** was achieved in a minimal number of experimental runs,within the constraints of the design and without the need for liquid-handling *** doing so,we were able to estimate the main effects impacting productivity in the system and increased the protein synthesis of firefly luciferase and the biopharmaceutical HSA by 4.8-fold and 3.5-fold,*** study highlights the ***-based cell-free system as a highly productive eukaryotic platform and displays the value of minimised doe designs.

Simulating the dynamics of fluid-cylinder interactions

We present the simulation of the dynamics of fluid-cylinder interactions in a narrow three-dimensional channel filled with a Newtonian fluid, using a Lagrange multiplier based fictitious domain methodology combined with a finite element method and an operator splitting technique. As expected, a settling truncated cylinder turns its broadside perpendicular to the main stream direction and the center of mass moves to the central axis of the channel. In the case of two truncated cylinders, they first move around each other for a while and then stay together in a "T" shape. After the "T" shape has been formed for a long enough time, we found no vortex shedding behind the cylinders. When simulating the fluidization of 60 truncated cylinders, we captured the features of interactions among fluidized cylinders as observed in experiments.

Hydrodeoxygenation of anisole over different Rh surfaces

The cleavage of the alkoxy(Ar-O-R) ether bond present in anisole is an interesting hydrodeoxygenation(HDO) reaction, since this asymmetric group contains two different C–O bonds, Caryl–O or Calkyl–O, which could potentially cleave. Recent work on the HDO of anisole over Pt, Ru, and Fe catalysts has shown that a common phenoxy surface intermediate is formed on all three metals. The subsequent reaction path of this intermediate varies from metal to metal, depending on the metal oxophilicity. Over the less oxophilic Pt, phenol is the only primary product. By contrast, on the more oxophilic Fe catalyst, the sole primary product is benzene instead of phenol. On Ru, with intermediate oxophilicity, both benzene and phenol are primary products. In this contribution, we have investigated Rh catalysts of varying surface nanostructures. A combination of experimental measurements and computational calculations was used to explore the effects of varying metal coordination number, an additional parameter that can be used to control the oxophilicity of a metal. The results confirm that metal oxophilicity is a good descriptor for HDO performance of metal catalysts and it can be controlled via selection of metal type and/or metal extent of coordination. Small Rh metal clusters with low coordination metal sites are more active for the deoxygenation pathway but also quickly deactivated while large clusters with high coordination sites are more active toward hydrogenation and more stable.

Ni_xWO_(2.72) nanorods as an efficient electrocatalyst for oxygen evolution reaction

Ni_xWO_(2.72) nanorods(NRs) are synthesized by a one-pot reaction of Ni(acac)_2 and WCl_4. In the rod structure, Ni(Ⅱ) intercalates in the defective perovskite-type WO_(2.72) and is stabilized. The Ni_xWO_(2.72) NRs show the x-dependent electrocatalysis for the oxygen evolution reaction(OER) in 0.1 M KOH with Ni_(0.78)WO_(2.72) being the most efficient, even outperforming the commercial Ir-catalyst. The synthesis is not limited to Ni_xWO_(2.72) but can be extended to M_xWO_(2.72)(M = Co, Fe) as well,providing a new class of oxide-based catalysts for efficient OER and other energy conversion reactions.
