The BETA application-specific integrated circuit(ASIC)is a fully programmable chip designed to amplify,shape and digitize the signal of up to 64 Silicon photomultiplier(SiPM)channels,with a power consumption of approximately~1 mW/*** to its dual-path gain,the BETA chip is capable of resolving single photoelectrons(phes)with a signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)>5 while simultaneously achieving a dynamic range of~4000 ***,BETA can provide a cost-effective solution for the readout of SiPMs in space missions and other applications with a maximum rate below 10 *** this study,we describe the key characteristics of the BETA ASIC and present an evaluation of the performance of its 16-channel version,which is implemented using 130 nm *** ASIC also contains two discriminators that can provide trigger signals with a time jitter down to 400 ps FWHM for 10 *** linearity error of the charge gain measurement was less than 2%for a dynamic range as large as 15 bits.

Feeding Calcium Salts of Linseed Oil on Metabolic Status and Reproductive Traits in grazing Dairy Cows

This experiment aimed to evaluate the effect of calcium salts of linseed oil (rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA, C18:3n-3) on metabolic and reproductive traits in high-producing dairy cows under grazing. Thirty-six Holstein dairy cows were randomly assigned, in a complete block design, to receive ALA supplementation (0.85 kg∙day−1 of calcium salts of linseed oil) or to remain as untreated control (CON). The concentrate was formulated to offer the same amount of energy across treatments (CON cows received an extra kg of corn to compensate for the higher energy density of ALA treatment). A PMR + Alfalfa pasture was offered to all cows at the same time. A fixed time artiﬁcial insemination (FTAI) at 80 DIM, preceded by a Presynch plus Ovsynch protocol was implemented for the first service and later, on return to estrus, heat detection and artiﬁcial insemination (AI) were performed. Pregnancy diagnosis was checked at 30, 42, 60, and 90 d after AI. Blood and milk samples were taken biweekly. Treatment affected plasma cholesterol concentration (160.36 vs. 186.70 mg∙dl−1, p = 0.03, for ALA and CON, respectively) and on size of corpus luteum (CL, 17.6 vs. 13.7 mm, p = 0.02, for ALA and CON, respectively). Supplementation tended (p = 0.136) to increase conception rate by 200 DIM (81.69% vs. 55.43% in ALA and CON cows, respectively). However, treatment had no effect (p > 0.05) on body weight (BW), body condition score (BCS), and circulating levels of beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHBA), glucose, insulin, growth hormone (gH) and insulin-like growth factor (IgF-I). Our results suggest that supplementation with calcium salts of linseed oil could enhance ovarian function without affecting energy metabolism in early lactation dairy cows.

Tracheoesophageal fistulas in coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic:A case report

BACKgROUND Tracheoesophageal fistulas(TEFs)can be described as a pathological communication between the trachea and the *** to their origin,they may be classified as benign or *** TEFs occur mostly as a consequence of prolonged mechanical ventilation,particularly among patients exposed to endotracheal cuff *** the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 virus pandemic,the amount of patients requiring prolonged ventilation rose,which in turn increased the incidence of *** SUMMARY We report the cases of 14 patients with different comorbidities such as being overweight,or having been diagnosed with diabetes mellitus or systemic *** most common symptoms on arrival were dyspnea and *** all cases,the diagnosis of TEFs was made through upper *** on the location and size of each fistula,either endoscopic or surgical treatment was *** patients were treated *** closure of the defect was achieved through over the scope clips in two patients,while three of them required endoscopic metal stenting.A hemoclip was used to successfully treat one patient,and it was used temporarily for another patient pended *** treatment was performed in patients with failed endoscopic management,leading to successful defect *** patients died before receiving corrective treatment and four died later on in their clinical course due to infectious *** The incidence of TEFs increased during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic(from 0.5%to 1.5%).We believe that endoscopic treatment should be considered as an option for this group of patients,since evidence reported in the literature is still a growing ***,we propose an algorithm to lead intervention in patients presenting with TEFs due to prolonged intubation.

Evaluation of Early Action Mechanisms in Peru Regarding Preparedness for El Nino

In this article,we provide an impact evaluation of an intervention in Peru regarding preparedness for El Nino impacts in Picsi District of Chiclayo Province in Peru’s northwestern coastal Lambayeque *** effort involved the provision of special kits that reduce the potential damage to homes as a consequence of rainfall and floods associated with an El Nino-Southern Oscillation *** was collected in 2016 when this Forecast-based Financing early action was activated by an El Nino forecast,and after a coastal El Nino actually struck in *** dual database permits us to estimate the impact of the intervention on the damage level of homes by comparing those homes supported by the program with those homes not receiving pilot-program *** comparison is achieved by using propensity score matching techniques,which identify the most comparable homes to the ones that were supported by the *** main findings of the study suggest a positive impact of the program in terms of its effectiveness in mitigating the damage caused by the 2017 El Ni?*** results suggest a drop in the scale of house damage(less damage)by around 63%for a home that received the modular kit *** considering other specifications of the model,the decrease in the scale of house damage improves up to approximately 66%.

Carbon nanotube(CNT)sponge exhibits unique porous and hierarchical structure that are beneficial to the design of ultralight and tough *** this study,CNT sponges(undoped and boron doped)reinforced polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)composites were *** properties of the composite,including compressive modulus,rate-dependent modulus,stress relaxation behaviors,dynamic viscoelastic properties,and their dependency on temperature,were systematically investigated.A micromechanical model,Mori-Tanaka model,was validated to describe the mechanical behaviors of CNT sponge reinforced *** coupling with boron-doped CNT sponge,PDMS composites showed remarkable improvement of mechanical properties,including compressive modulus(70%),viscous modulus(243%)and damping capacity(50%).Such reinforcement effects can be controlled by the morphology of CNT sponges,as the boron-doped and undoped nanocomposites showed distinct viscoelastic *** results proved that CNT sponge reinforcement is a promising strategy to develop engineering composites with both outstanding mechanical stiffness and controllable viscoelastic performances.

In the present work, the susceptibility of API 5L X52 steel to corrosion processes was evaluated in the presence of high contents of hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide. gravimetric tests and surface analyses were carried out to establish both the corrosion rate and damage type exhibited by the metal. The obtained results indicate that the hydrogen sulfide is the most active gas in the corrosion processes that took place, quite above carbon dioxide. The main observed corrosion products were iron sulfides and the typical damage associated with hydrogen sulfide presence was Sulfide Stress Cracking (SSC). The surface damage evidences the presence of cracks with considerable magnitude and metal loss as consequences of the corrosion processes. Likewise, the presence of oxygen in the system modifies the displayed corrosion type, where corrosion products such as iron oxides and reduction in the number and extent of cracks are observed. On the other hand, the addition of a film-forming corrosion inhibitor based on modified imidazolines eliminates completely the development of cracks, although under certain test conditions, it can favor localized pitting corrosion.
