Coastal Louisiana has the nation’s most fragile and valuable wetlands,whose loss represents 80% of the total losses in the United States.The severely restricted mobility of conventional shoreline protection structures makes them impossible to be redeployed.The Wave Suppression and Sediment Collection(WSSC) system is a novel technology of high mobility and compatible with existing shoreline protection technologies.Previous laboratory studies on WSSC showed great potential for wave reduction and sediment collection.The current study aimed to optimize the design parameters of WSSC using a validated computational model.A computational fluid dynamics (CfD) model was developed and validated using experimental data from the previous laboratory study.Then,a parametric analysis was conducted with a focus on the performance optimization of wave reduction and sediment collection with respect to pipe diameter and face slope.Simulation results showed that the wave reduction efficiency decreased with increasing pipe diameter and face slope.In contrast,the sediment transport efficiency was enhanced by increasing pipe diameter but was not affected significantly by varying face slopes.

The distribution control center(DCC)has evolved from a sideshow in the traditional distribution service center to a major centerpiece of the utility moving into the decentralized world.Mostly,this is the place where much of the action is happening due to new forms of energy that are coining into the distribution system.This creates the flexibility of operation and in-creased complexity due to the need for increased coordination between the transmission control center and DCC.However,the US and European utilities have adapted to this change in very different ways.firstly,we describe the research works done in a DCC and their evolutions from the perspectives of major US utilities,and those enhanced by the European perspective focusing on the coordination of distribution system operator and transmission system operator(DSO-TSO).We pres-ent the insights into the systems used in these control centers and the role of vendors in their evolution.Throughout this paper,we present the perspectives of challenges,operational capabilities,and the involvement of various parties who will be re-sponsible to make the transition successful.Key differences are pointed out on how distribution operations are conducted between the US and Europe.

Background:Influenza pandemics emerge at irregular and unpredictable intervals to cause substantial health,economic and social burdens.Optimizing health-system response is vital to mitigating the consequences of future pandemics.Methods:We developed a mathematical model to assess the preparedness of Canadian health systems to accommodate pandemic-related increases in patient demand.We identify vulnerable areas,assess the potential of inter-wave vaccination to mitigate impacts and evaluate the association between demographic and health-system characteristics in order to identify predictors of pandemic consequences.Results:Modelled average attack rates were 23.7e37.2%with no intervention and 2.5 e6.4%with pre-vaccination.Peak acute-care demand was 7.5e19.5%of capacity with no intervention and 0.6e2.6%with pre-vaccination.The peak ICU demand was 39.3e101.8%with no intervention and 2.9e13.3%with pre-vaccination.Total mortality was 2258 e7944 with no intervention and 88e472 with pre-vaccination.Regions of Southern Ontario were identified as most vulnerable to surges in patient demand.The strongest predictors of peak acute-care demand and ICU demand were acute-care bed capacity(R=0.8697;r^2=0.7564)and ICU bed capacity(R=0.8151;r^2=0.6644),respectively.Demographic characteristics had mild associations with predicted pandemic consequences.Conclusion:Inter-wave vaccination provided adequate acute-care resource protection under all scenarios;ICU resource adequacy was protected under mild disease assumptions,but moderate and severe diseases caused demand to exceed expected availability in 21%and 49%of study areas,respectively.Our study informs priority vaccine distribution strategies for pandemic planning,emphasizing the need for targeted early vaccine distribution to high-risk individuals and areas.

Introduction: In the Pacific Northwest of North America, research addressing lentic-breeding amphibian populationvulnerability has emphasized aquatic habitats, frequently neglecting terrestrial habitats. Consequently, wetlandprotection and restoration often fails to preserve or restore adjacent uplands required by lentic-breeding amphibians.Inattention to the juxtaposition and connectivity of uplands to wetlands could locally extirpate lentic-breedingamphibians. The objective of this research is to identify the relative importance of juxtaposed terrestrial and aquatichabitats in a lentic-breeding amphibian, the northern red-legged frog (Rana aurora), by evaluating the relationshipbetween its occurrence and abundance with its aquatic and terrestrial habitats. To accomplish this, egg mass countswere used to quantify R. aurora populations in 30 stillwater habitats across an urbanization gradient. Using aGeographic Information System, seven descriptors of aquatic and surrounding terrestrial habitats were measured toevaluate their relationships to R. aurora occurrence and abundance.Results: Rana aurora occurrence and breeding abundance both reflect the forested area around wetland breedingsites and forest connectivity to those sites. Rana aurora breeding abundance also strongly reflects the percent offorested perimeter around wetland breeding sites. The forest habitat most important for R. aurora breeding abundanceseems to be > 200 m from the breeding wetlands. The American bullfrog presence and the two aquatic parametersmeasured, wetland area and vegetated area, were unrelated to R. aurora occurrence and breeding abundance.Conclusions: Area and connectivity of juxtaposed forested terrestrial habitat may represent a basic control on R. aurorapresence and population size. Urban development policies should consider preservation and restoration of uplandforest habitats beyond current fixed-width buffers and wetland habitat area at landscape scales.

简述了以色列hayes工程公司开发的醇法制取功能性大豆浓缩蛋白工艺及操作要点。以含水酒精为溶剂,采用同油脂浸出十分相似的工艺,脱除低温脱脂大豆粕(白豆片)中的可溶性碳水化合物,得到蛋白干基含量在65%以上的大豆浓缩蛋白商业化产品;而后在碱性条件下采用同提取分离蛋白相似的办法,对大豆浓缩蛋白进行高压均质、热处理及喷雾干燥,得到功能性大豆浓缩蛋白产品。另外,介绍了相关产品的质量标准和功能性检测方法,以及近几年来的工艺改进情况。
