Comparison of a Soil Vulnerability Map for Tetracycline Soil Contamination at a Global and Local Scale

Recently, de la torre[1] provided an approach for assessing the vulnerability of European soils for tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones and sulfamides contamination using a spatial risk assessment. It allowed identifying areas where vulnerable soil more occur, providing useful information for policies designed to reduce contamination. In the current study, this approach was applied to a local level, the autonomous region of Castile and León (C&L), located in the north-west part of Spain. High accurate and reliable source data were employed to generate a soil vulnerability map for tetracyclines in the study area, attempting to improve the release and consequence risk prediction. More specifically, pig density, temperature and soil use risk estimators were improved using data from national or local databases. Result comparison between the European and the present approach showed a good agreement demonstrating the utility of the European vulnerability map to be employed not only at global level but also for deciding how to allocate limited resources on national or subnational environmental surveillance programs of antibiotics. The model application at local level using more accurate data from national or local sources, afforded a better understanding of the spatial distribution of the risk, mainly associated with the higher accuracy of the national land use database SIOSE. It could offer a useful tool for local management of the risk, such as the management of animal manures fertilization on soil.

本文提出一种应用于旧石器时代早期石制品研究的分析方案。本方案以宏观分析方法为主,不包括同样重要的微观分析方法,主要应用于旧石器时代早期石制品的技术-类型学分析,不涉及特定地区和特殊石制品的讨论。在旧大陆旧石器时代早期石器研究中,鉴于学者们使用的技术学与类型学分析方案总体相似,我们认为在研究中使用标准化的分析方案会提高地区间石器面貌的可比性,并有助于理解旧石器时代早期旧大陆古人类的技术行为模式。从这个角度出发,本文将回顾旧石器时代早期石器研究的主要理论和方法,并提出分析视角和术语建议,希望有助于研究中对描述剥片类、废片类、锤击工具、拼合工具和传统石制品的测量与绘图惯例。

We present a method to fabricate handcrafted thermoelectric devices on standard office paper *** devices are based on thin films of WS_(2),Te,and BP(P-type semiconductors)and TiS_(3)and TiS_(2)(N-type semiconductors),deposited by simply rubbing powder of these materials against *** thermoelectric properties of these semiconducting films revealed maximum Seebeck coefficients of(+1.32±0.27)mV K^(-1)and(-0.82±0.15)mV K^(-1)for WS_(2)and TiS_(3),***,Peltier elements were fabricated by interconnecting the P-and N-type films with graphite electrodes.A thermopower value up to 6.11 mV K^(-1)was obtained when the Peltier element were constructed with three *** findings of this work show proof-of-concept devices to illustrate the potential application of semiconducting van der Waals materials in future thermoelectric power generation as well as temperature sensing for low-cost disposable electronic devices.

To evaluate factors that influence the diagnostic accuracy of endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided tissue acquisition for lymph node enlargement in the absence of an on-site pathologist. METHODSA retrospective analysis of patients who underwent EUS-guided tissue acquisition for the pathological diagnosis of lymph node enlargement between April 2012 and June 2015 is reported. Tissue acquisition was performed with both cytology and biopsy needles of different calibers. The variables evaluated were lymph node location and size, number of passes and type of needle used. Final diagnosis was based on surgical histopathology or, in non-operated cases, on EUS-guided tissue acquisition and imaging assessment with a minimum clinical follow-up of 6 mo. RESULTSDuring the study period, 168 lymph nodes with a median size of 20.3 mm (range 12.5-27) were sampled from 152 patients. Ninety lymph nodes (53.6%) were located at mediastinum, and 105 (62.5%) were acquired with biopsy needles. The final diagnosis was benign/reactive origin in 87 cases (51.8%), malignant in 65 cases (38.7%), and lymphoma in 16 cases (9.5%). The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value for the detection of malignancy were 74.1%, 100%, 100% and 80.6%, respectively. The overall accuracy was 87.5% (95%CI: 81.7-91.7). No variables were independently associated with a correct final diagnosis according to the multivariate analysis. CONCLUSIONEUS-guided tissue acquisition is a highly accurate technique for assessing lymph node enlargement. None of the variables evaluated were associated with diagnostic accuracy.

Introduction: Pain with neuropathic characteristics is one of the most limiting as a consequence of injury or disease that affects the somatosensory system. Objective: An assessment protocol is proposed to quantify the impact of neuropathic pain integrating personal, clinical, work and social aspects and to establish guidelines in its management and evolutionary control. Method: The medical literature on neuropathic pain and its impact is reviewed as a basis for including the variables that must be part of the protocol. Results: The variables are quantified individually and by groups of factors. The final result is stratified into four grades (mild, moderate, severe, extreme), which will serve for the subsequent control, monitoring and prevention of risks. Conclusion: The proposed protocol evaluates the impact of neuropathic pain in all aspects of the person who suffers it and quantifies the results establishing degrees for its control, follow-up and clinical, social and occupational intervention.

Nowadays, cancer is one of the main worldwide causes of death and an increasing issue in public health. In the European Union, it is the first work-related cause of death. Studies about occupational risk exposure are a useful field of investigation to determine cancerous elements;special attention is paid to the relationship between cancer and work in women, who must constantly adapt to the working market and the new working fields, with their diverse degrees of exposure to risks. This revision has reviewed the bibliography gathered in Medline related to breast cancer, cervix cancer, uterus cancer, and ovarian cancer, along with their relationship with different work-related risks and types of working roles. The results have shown enough scientific evidence to suspect that work related exposition could be a plausible cause of these gynaecological cancers. Therefore, we want to stress the need of enhancing the coordinated investigation between all the medical specialties involved, and to encourage the spread of the necessary knowledge to manage and prevent them.

This study presents a state of the art of several studies dealing with the environmental impact assessment of fuel cell (FC) vehicles and the comparison with their conventional fossil-fuelled counterparts, by means of the Life Cycle As-sessment (LCA) methodology. Results declare that, depending on the systems characteristics, there are numerous envi-ronmental advantages, but also some disadvantages can be expected. In addition, the significance of the manufac-turing process of the FC, more specifically the Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) type, in terms of environmental impact is presented.
