c.valent c.oss-linking of soluble extrac.llular arabinoxylans in living maize c.ltures, wh.c. models th. c.oss- linking of wall-bound arabinoxylans, is due to oxidation of feruloyl esters to oligoferuloyl esters and eth.rs. Th. oxidizing system responsible c.uld be h.O2/peroxidase, O2/lac.ase, or reac.ive oxygen spec.es ac.ing non-enzymic.lly, To distinguish.th.se possibilities, we studied arabinoxylan c.oss-linking in vivo and in vitro. In living c.ltures, exogenous, soluble, extrac.llular, feruloylated [pentosyl-3h.arabinoxylans underwent c.oss-linking, beginning abruptly 8 d after sub-c.lture. c.osslinking was suppressed by iodide, an h.O2 sc.venger, indic.ting dependenc. on endogenous h.O2. h.wever, exogenous h.O2 did not c.use prec.c.ous c.oss-linking, despite th. c.nstant presenc. of endogenous peroxidases, suggesting th.t younger c.ltures c.ntained natural c.oss-linking inh.bitors. Dialysed c.lture-filtrates c.oss-linked [^3h.arabinoxylans in vitro only if h.O2 was also added, indic.ting a peroxidase requirement. Th.s c.oss-linking was h.gh.y ionic.strength.dependent. Th. peroxidases responsible were h.at-labile, alth.ugh.relatively h.at-stable peroxidases （assayed on o-dianisidine） were also present. Surprisingly, added h.rseradish.peroxidase, even after h.at-denaturation, bloc.ed th. arabinoxylanc.oss-linking ac.ion of maize peroxidases, suggesting th.t th. h.rseradish.protein was a c.mpeting substrate for [^3h.arabinoxylan c.upling. In c.nc.usion, we sh.w for th. first time th.t c.oss-linking of extrac.llular arabinoxylan in living maize c.ltures is an ac.ion of apoplastic.peroxidases, some of wh.se unusual properties we report.

A framework for preparation of an early warning system was developed for Maryland, using a GIS database and a c.llec.ive overlay of maps th.t h.gh.igh. h.gh.ay slopes susc.ptible to soil slides or slope failures in advanc. th.ough.spatial and statistic.l analysis. Data for existing soil slope failures was c.llec.ed from geotec.nic.l reports and field visits. A total of 48 slope failures were rec.rded and analyzed. Six fac.ors, inc.uding event prec.pitation, geologic.l formation, land c.ver, slope h.story, slope angle, and elevation were c.nsidered to affec. h.gh.ay soil siope stability. Th. observed trends indic.te th.t prec.pitation and poor surfac. or subsurfac. drainage c.nditions are princ.pal fac.ors c.using slope failures. 96% of th. failed slopes h.ve an open drainage sec.ion. A majority of th. failed slopes lie in regions with.relatively h.gh.event prec.pitation （P 〉 200 mm）. 90% of th. existing failures are surfic.al erosion type failures, and only 1 out of th. 42 slope failures is deep rotational type failure. More th.n h.lf of th. analyzed slope failures h.ve oc.urred in regions h.ving low density land c.ver. 46% of failures are on slopes with.slope angles between 20~ and 30~. Influx of more data relating to failed slopes sh.uld give rise to more trends, and th.s th. developed slope management system will aid th. state h.gh.ay engineers in prudential budget alloc.tion and prioritizing different remediation projec.s based on th. literature reviewed on th. princ.ples, c.nc.pts, tec.niques, and meth.dology for slope instability evaluation （Lesh. c.insky et al., 2015）.

A 59-year-old male presented with.a h.story of feeling somewh.t \"funny\" and h.ving an episode of slurred speec.. No neurologic.l defic.ts were found. Multislic. c. and c.A demonstrated multiple aneurysms assoc.ated with.fenestrated basilar artery. c. was done with.and with.ut c.ntrast infusion. Multiple detec.or h.gh.resolution sc.ns (GE, Ligh.Speed Plus, USA) of th. brain were done at 1. 25 mm sc.n intervals. After 20 s delay, 150 c. of Isovue 370 was injec.ed at power injec.ion rate of 3. 0 c./s. c.A using maximum intensity projec.ion (MIP) and volume rendering (VR) rec.nstruc.ions at 0. 25 mm slic. intervals was c.eated on GE Advantage~(TM) Windows Workstation 4. 0. On c.A study, MIP and VR rec.nstruc.ions were c.nsidered satisfac.ory, aneurysms were c.early detec.ed by both.MIP and VR rec.nstruc.ions, and VR was superior in th. depic.ion of small arterial anatomy in th.s c.se. Th.ee aneurysms were visualized. Th.s demonstrated a larger aneurysm measuring 5. 6 X 18. 6 mm loc.ted at th. righ. internal c.rotid artery (fig. 1), and a small aneurysm measuring 3. 7 X 2. 0 mm at th. origin of th. left superior c.rebellar artery (fig. 2). Anoth.r small aneurysm was seen originating from th. distal end of th. vertebral artery and th. proximal portion of segment duplic.tion of th. basilar artery (fig. 2). Th.s aneurysm was 3. 4X3. 0 mm in size, projec.ing axially with.respec. to th. segment duplic.tion of th. basilar arteries, and dorsally toward th. brain stem. Th. length.of segment duplic.tion of th. basilar arteries was 11 mm. Two c.annels of th. vertebral arteries were unequal in diameter. Th. righ. segment duplic.tion was 2. 6 mm in diameter, th. left was 1. 4 mm. Th. angle of th. segment duplic.tion was 49°. Digital subtrac.ion angiograph. Eigh. novel Sc.iff Bases, from 6,6′-diformyl-2,2′-bipyridyl (1a, 43%)with.O, N, S and F c.ntaining amines: Th.osemic.rbazide (2a, 70%), 4-Eth.l-3-th.osemic.bazide (2b, 75%), 4,4-Dimeth.l-3-th.o-semic.rbazide (2c. 75%), S-benzyldith.oc.rbazide, SBDTc.(2d, 80%), (Triflurometh.l) ph.nylh.-drazine (2e, 80%), 4-Ph.nyl-3-th.osemc.rbazide (2f, 80%), Th.oc.rbazide (2g, 70%), 2-Amino-th.oph.nol (2h. 65%), h.ve been synth.sized. Th. c.nventional meth.d of synth.sis of th. Sc.iff bases involves refluxing th. reac.ion mixture c.ntaining th. diformyls and amines for 1 h.ur. Th. solid produc.s th.t h.d formed were filtered off using suc.ion filtration. In few reac.ions, 2 - 3 drops of c.nc. sulfuric.ac.d were used to obtain h.gh.yield. Th. struc.ures of all eigh. novel synth.sized c.mpounds h.ve fully been c.arac.erized by spec.rosc.pic.(IR, NMR, MS) meth.ds.

Objec.ive Genistein, a major soy isoflavone metabolite （SIF）, inac.ivates oxidation ac.ivity of bovine lac.operoxidase （LPO）. Modific.tion of th. h.me moiety of LPO by nitrogen-c.ntaining c.mpounds h.s been sh.wn to inac.ivate LPO. In c.ntrast, SIF mediated inac.ivation of LPO does not involve a h.me modific.tion and th. mec.anism of SIF inh.bition is poorly understood. Meth.ds After inac.ivation of LPO by genistein in th. presenc. of h.02, trypsin-digested LPO peptide fragments were c.llec.ed and analyzed by MALDI-TOF-MS to c.arac.erize th. c.emic.l binding of genistein（s） to LPO. Results Th. h.me moiety of LPO was not modified by genistein. A c.valent binding study sh.wed th.t 3h.genistein bound to LPO with.a ratio of ~12 to 1. After h.Lc.analysis and peak c.llec.ion, trypsin-digested peptide fragments were analyzed by MALDI-TOF-MS. Th. 3h.genistein c.-eluted peptide fragments （RT=24 min） were putatively identified as 1991VGYLDEEGVLDQNR214 with.two bound genistein molec.les or a genistein dimer （2 259 Da）, 486TPDNIDIWlGGNAEPMVER504 with.two bound genistein molec.les or a genistein dimer （2 663 Da）, and 161ARWLPAEYEDGLALPFGWTQR182 with.th.ee bound genistein molec.les or a genistein trimer （3 060 Da）. Th. fragment with.a mass of 2 792 Da （RT=36 min） was identified as 132c.ENSPYR139 with.th.ee genistein molec.les or a genistein trimer. c.nc.usions Th. results suggest th.t LPO was inac.ivated by irreversible c.valent binding of genistein or genistein polymers to partic.lar peptide fragments c.nstituting regions of th. outward domain. No genistein interac.ion with.th. prosth.tic.h.me moiety of LPO was observed.
