BACKGROUnD Hemiarthroplasty is the most common treatment in elderly patients with displaced intra-capsular femoral neck fracture(FnF).Prosthetic joint infection(PJI)is one of the most feared and frequent complications post-surgery because of the frail health status of these patients and the need for fast track ***,priorities should lie in effective preventive strategies to mitigate this *** To determine how much the implementation of the routine use of antibioticloaded bone cement(ALBC)as a relatively easy-to-apply amendment to the surgical practice reduces the infection rate in our hemiarthroplasty *** We retrospectively assessed all demographic,health status and treatment-related data of our FnF patients undergoing cemented hemiarthroplasty in the period from 2011 to 2017;241 patients were further analyzed after exclusion of patients with cancer-related sequelae and those who died before the end of the 1-year observation *** PJI rate as diagnosed on basis of the Musculoskeletal Infection Society(MSIS)criteria 2011 was determined for each included patient and compared in function of the bone cement used for hip stem *** were split into a group receiving a plain bone cement in the period from January 2011 to June 2013(non-ALBC group)and into a group receiving an ALBC in the period July 2013 to December 2017(ALBC group).Data analysis was performed with statistical *** further calculated the cost-efficacy of the implementation of routine use of ALBC in the second group balancing the inhospital infection related treatment costs with the extra costs of use of *** In total 241 FnF patients who received cemented hemiarthroplasty in the period from January 2011 to January 2017 were eligible for inclusion in this retrospective *** were 8 PJI cases identified in the ALBC group among n=94 patients,whereas 28 PJI cases were observed in the non-ALBC group among n=147 *** statistical analysis

Microfluidics has demonstrated high versatility in the analysis of in-flow particles and can even achieve mechanical properties measurements of biological cells by applying hydrodynamic ***,there is currently no available technique that enables the direct measurement and tracking of these hydrodynamic forces acting on a flowing *** this work,we introduce a novel method for the direct measurement of the hydrodynamic force actuating on an in-flow particle based on the analysis of the induced resonance changes of suspended microchannel resonators(SMRs).This hydrodynamic force sensitivity depends on the device used;therefore,we considered the geometry and materials to advance this dependency on the SMR resonance frequency.

This paper offers a systematic literature review of real-time detection and classification of Power Quality Disturbances(PQDs).A particular focus is given to voltage sags and notches,as voltage sags cause huge economic losses while research on voltage notches is still very incipient.A systematic method based on scientometrics,text similarity and the analytic hierarchy process is proposed to structure the review and select the most relevant literature.A biblio-metric analysis is then performed on the bibliographic data of the literature to identify relevant statistics such as the evolution of publications over time,top publishing countries,and the distribution by relevant topics.A set of articles is subsequently selected to be critically *** critical review is structured in steps for real-time detection and classification of PQDs,namely,input data preparation,preprocessing,transformation,feature extraction,feature selec-tion,detection,classification,and *** associated with the type of disturbance(s)addressed in the literature are also explored throughout the review,including the perspectives of those studies aimed at multiple PQDs,or specifically focused on voltage sags or voltage *** real-time performance of the reviewed tools is also ***,unsolved issues are discussed,and prospects are highlighted.

Addition of ‘Chetoui’ olive leaf extract to reduce acrylamide in Californian-style black olive

To improve food quality, the use of olive leaf extracts has been an emergent strategy that needs to be study in different scenarios. Certain local olive varieties are waiting to be discovered as potential by-product sources, in which a Tunisian variety named ‘Chetoui’ can be pointed out. The use of this variety at different tree ages to elaborate olive leaf extracts (OLE) in different solvents has been the main procedure to study during this assay. Different OLE concentrations were prepared in order to evaluate its effect in contaminants such as acrylamide. Adult ‘Chetoui’ OLE presented a richer phenolic content that is younger homonym. Principal phenols like hydroxytyrosol, tyrosol, oleuropein and luteolin-7-O-gluvoside presented higher levels for both tree ages. In terms of extractants, the most effective was Methanol, having concentrations for oleuropein, hydroxytyrosol and Luteolin-7-O-glucoside of 175331, 32433 and 10688 mg 100 g−1 respectively. Hexane was the least successful solvent, having no concentration for plenty of the phenols. Acrylamide concentration was deeply affected for the OLE presence for every extract concentration, being OLE (1:10) and OLE (1:10 + HTy) the additions with a better performance followed by OLE (1:100). A sensory analysis was performed finding out that OLE (1:100) was the most appealing for the consumer when adding it to table olives. The current research attempts to discover new applications for local varieties, using by-products to enhance oxidized black table olives added value. Finally, market products would become healthier, safer and with better quality to be released in the food industry.

Yearly variation in the structure and diversity of a non-breeding passerine bird community in a Mediterranean wetland

Background:The dynamics and structure of many bird communities are changing due to the global warming and changes in the land use and *** Ebro Valley constitutes one of the chief wintering areas for several passerine species in Iberia,and the reed beds spread across this Valley concentrate huge numbers of birds that use them to roost,while the surrounding agricultural areas serve as main foraging *** aims of this work are(1)to quantify how variable a non-breeding passerine bird community associated to a reed bed area in the Ebro Valley is,and,(2)to test for the effect of weather on possible annual fluctuations in species’proportions at a regional/local ***:We used for that ringing data collected at Badina de Escudera lagoon(navarra)over a 12-year ***:Though,overall,the assemblage did not vary strongly among years(most similarity values were>0.8),we still found a significant linear effect of year on the proportion of captures of Reed Buntings(Emberiza schoeniclus),i.e.,the dominant species detected in our passerine *** increasing loss of weight of Reed Buntings in the community was due to a progressive decrease in its ***:The structure and diversity of passerine community in Badina Escudera was not influenced by meteorological conditions at a local scale,suggesting that local weather would not have an impact on numbers of Reed Buntings in winter.

Influence of Livestock Soil Eutrophication on Floral Composition in the Pyrenees Mountains

Livestock behaviour in the Pyrenees includes free grazing and a long resting period that provokes the accumulation of dung and urine in some places,so-called camping areas. The aims of this study were (i) to analyze any change in floral composition,and in nutritional and chemical contents of plants in a livestock camping area; and (ii) to relate the floral composition with soil chemical properties. In a linear transect,five sampling zones were established,from the centre of the camping area to the surrounding nardus stricta-dominant pasture. The above ground plant biomass and the topsoil were sampled in each zone with 6 replicates per zone. Plant species were classified and weighed to calculate above ground biomass,nutritional and chemical contents,and Shannon diversity and evenness indices. Additionally,soils were sampled in two periods,at the beginning and at the end of grazing period. Soil available nutrients (nitrate,ammonium,phosphorus,potassium,calcium and magnesium),total nitrogen,organic carbon and pH were measured. Plant chemical contents (protein,lignin and others) were significantly related to the proportions of grasses,legumes and other plants; so,the protein content is positively correlated with legumes plant biomass while lignin content is negatively correlated with grasses. Both plant and soil nutrients increased linearly towards the centre of the camping area. However,the relationship among plant species richness,diversity and evenness relative to its position along the studied transect was bell-shaped. From the outskirts to the centre of the camping area,plants with low nutrient demand were progressively replaced by those with medium and high nutrients demand and by pioneers. nardus stricta-dominant pasture has low plant diversity and plant nutrient content as well as a poor soil nutrient availability. To date,skin wounds are still an issue for healthcare *** numerous approaches have been developed over the years for skin regeneration,recent advances in regenerative medicine offer very promising strategies for the fabrication of artificial skin substitutes,including 3D bioprinting,electrospinning or spraying,among *** particular,skin sprays are an innovative technique still under clinical evaluation that show great potential for the delivery of cells and hydrogels to treat acute and chronic *** sprays present significant advantages compared to conventional treatments for wound healing,such as the facility of application,the possibility to treat large wound areas,or the homogeneous distribution of the sprayed *** this article,we review the latest advances in this technology,giving a detailed description of investigational and currently commercially available acellular and cellular skin spray products,used for a variety of diseases and applying different experimental ***,as skin sprays products are subjected to different classifications,we also explain the regulatory pathways for their commercialization and include the main clinical trials for different skin diseases and their treatment ***,we argue and suggest possible future trends for the biotechnology of skin sprays for a better use in clinical dermatology.

Polymorphisms in oxidative pathway related genes and susceptibility to inflammatory bowel disease

AIM To investigate whether common variants in the oxidative pathway genes influence inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) risk among Moroccan patients. METHODS The distribution of(TAAA)n_rs12720460 and(CCTTT)n_rs3833912 nOS2 A microsatellite repeats, HIF-1 A_rs11549467 and nFKB1-94 ins/delA TTG_rs28362491 was analyzed in 507 subjects grouped in 199 IBD and 308 healthy controls. Genotyping was performed withpolymerase chain reaction-fluorescent method and the TaqMan~? allelic discrimination *** The allele and genotype frequencies of HIF1 A_ rs11549467, nFKB1_rs28362491 and nOS2 A_(TAAA)n did not differ significantly between patients and controls. Analysis of nOS2 A_(CCTTT)n markers evidenced differences between patients and healthy controls. A preferential presence of the(CCTTT)8(P = 0.02; OR = 1.71, 95%CI: 1.07-2.74),(CCTTT)14(P = 0.02; OR = 1.71, 95%CI: 1.06-2.76) alleles in IBD,(CCTTT)8(P = 0.008; OR = 1.95, 95%CI: 1.17-3.23) in CD and(CCTTT)7(P = 0.009; OR = 7.61, 95%CI: 1.25-46.08),(CCTTT)11(P = 0.05; OR = 0.51, 95%CI: 0.25-1.01),(CCTTT)14(P = 0.02; OR = 2.05, 95%CI: 1.07-3.94),(CCTTT)15(P = 0.01; OR = 2.25, 95%CI: 1.16-4.35) repeats in UC patients indicated its possible association with higher disease risk which need to be confirmed in a larger sample size. COnCLUSIOn Our results suggest that the nOS2 A_(CCTTT)n gene variations may influence IBD susceptibility in the Moroccan population.

Optical coherence tomography （OCT） has gained considerable attention in interventional cardiovascular medicine and is currently used in clinical settings to assess atherosclerotic lesions and to optimize stent placement. Artery imaging at the cellular level constitutes the first step towards cardiovascular molecular imaging, which represents a major advance in the development of personalized noninvasive therapies. In this work we demonstrate that cardiovascular OCT can be used to detect individual cells suspended in biocompatible fluids. Importantly, the combination of this catheter-based clinical technique with gold nanoshells （GnSs） as intracellular contrast agents led to a substantial enhancement in the backscattered signal produced by individual cells. This cellular contrast enhancement was attributed to the large backscattering cross-section of GnSs at the OCT laser wavelength （1,300 nm）. A simple intensity analysis of OCT cross-sectional images of suspended cells makes it possible to identify the sub-population of living cells that successfully incorporated GnSs. The generalizability of this method was demonstrated using two different cell lines （HeLa and Jurkat cells）. This work provides novel insights into cardiovascular molecular imaging using specifically modified GnSs.

This work presents the hydrologic estimations of the hydraulic underground arched culvert channel (UACC) in Sabinal Basin, Chiapas, México and the hydrological problems associated with it, such as the erosion phenomenon and abrasion cavity formation in it. On the other hand, the maximum flows that the UACC could transport were analyzed, concluding that it no longer has the hydraulic capacity to transport the flow rate associated to return periods equal to or greater than five years and that maximum permissible velocity UACC’s bottom is 3 m/s.
