Blue Cap Is Effective and Safe for the Treatment of Atopic Dermatitis in Children

Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is the most common inflammatory skin disease in children. Treatment of AD is based on skin barrier repair and reduction of inflammation. We analyzed the efficacy and safety of activated piroctone olamine (APO)—Blue Cap—in children with AD. Materials and Methods: An open-label interventional clinical study was carried out at three clinical centers in Serbia. A total of 58 patients with AD, aged between 3 and 18 years were included and treated with Blue Cap Foam (100 ml;CATALYSIS S.L. Madrid)—Activated Piroctone Olamine—applied twice a day in the affected areas with eczema for 30 days and final assessment at 45 days from baseline. Photographic documentation, clinical evaluation, therapy effectiveness and safety questionnaires were assessed at baseline, 15, 30 and 45 days. Results: Our results demonstrated a significant reduction in signs (erythema, scaling, infiltration, excoriations, xerosis) and symptoms (pruritus) at weeks 2 and 4 of the study. At the end of the study, most patients had moderate (28.6%) to great (62.5%) disappearance of manifestations and moderate (25%) to great (71.4%) skin quality improvement. The effect and tolerability of the therapy were evaluated as very good in 66.1 % and 67.9% and good in about 14.3% and 17.9%, assessed by the investigator and patient, respectively. Three patients experienced a burning sensation at the beginning of the study, the side-effects were resolved as the patients continued applying the foam. After two weeks of cessation of the investigated foam, a significant percentage of patients experienced worsening in the final assessment done by the investigator as well as the participant. In the final assessment, a significantly high percentage (57.1%) of patients had a total reduction of manifestation, and a significant number of participants considered the applied product as treatment success, assessed by the investigator (62.5%) as well as the participants (66.4%). Green neighbourhoods in low voltage networks:measuring impact of electric vehicles and photovoltaics on load profiles

In the near future, various types of low-carbon technologies(LCTs) are expected to be widely employed throughout the United Kingdom. However, the effect that these technologies will have at a household level on the existing low voltage(LV) network is still an area of extensive research. We propose an agent based model that estimates the growth of LCTs within local neighbourhoods,where social influence is imposed. Real-life data from an LV network is used that comprises of many socially diverse neighbourhoods. Both electric vehicle uptake and the combined scenario of electric vehicle and photovoltaic adoption are investigated with this data. A probabilistic approach is outlined, which determines lower and upper bounds for the model response at every *** technique is used to assess the implications of modifying model assumptions and introducing new model features. Moreover, we discuss how the calculation of these bounds can inform future network planning decisions.

The metaphor at the heart of Hong Kong filmmaker Flora Lau＇s debut feature film, Bends （2013）, set in the border spaces of Hong Kong and Shenzhen, is that of intersection. By constructing a quietly observant view of life on both sides of the Sam Chun River, which separates Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland, Lau＇s film inhabits this metaphor by cutting through the public and private domains with a narrative of intimacy and connection at the nexus of wider socioeconomic concerns. Delving into Hong Kong-mainland relations, Bends inserts the real-life social issues of immigration, border control, economic privilege, and China＇s one-child policy into its diegesis to capture Hong Kong at a moment in time. In considering the intertwined relationship between identity, politics, and urban space, this paper employs the trope of disappearance perpetuated in critical discourses on Hong Kong as a point of departure to explore the distinct filmic topography of Bends, which attempts to cinematically preserve the dynamics of the city under Chinese administration. In so doing, this paper also examines Lau＇s interest in giving marginalized female groups narrative agency to shed light on an alternative perspective of the special administrative region and its unfolding relationship with the motherland.

In situ synthesis of potassium tungstophosphate supported on BEA zeolite and perspective application for pesticide removal

Potassium tungstophosphate is supported on BEA zeolite by in situ synthesis for glyphosate removal. Spectroscopic measurements identified hydrogen bonding as a primal interaction of potassium salt and BEA zeolite. Composites are evaluated for glyphosate herbicide removal and adsorption process is analyzed using two isotherm models. Obtained adsorption capacities for all prepared composites lay between 45.2 and 92.2 mg of glyphosate per gram of investigated composite. Suspension acidity revealed that glyphosate is adsorbed mainly in the zwitter-ion form at the composite surface while the amount of potassium salt in the composites is crucial for the adsorption application. Exceptional adsorption behavior is postulated to come from a high degree of homogeneity among surface active sites which is confirmed by different experimental methods. Temperature programmed desorption of glyphosate coupled with mass spectrometer detected one broad, high-temperature peak which represents overlapped desorption processes from active sights of similar *** of potassium tungstophosphate affects active sites present in BEA zeolite for glyphosate desorption and significantly increases the amount of adsorbed pesticide in comparison to BEA zeolite. Supporting of potassium tungstophosphate on BEA zeolite via in situ synthesis procedure enables the formation of highly efficient adsorbents and revealed their perspective environmental application.

Novel approaches in schizophrenia-from risk factors and hypotheses to novel drug targets

Schizophrenia is a severe psychiatric disorder characterized by emotional,behavioral and cognitive disturbances, and the treatment of schizophrenia is oftencomplicated by noncompliance and pharmacoresistance. The search for thepathophysiological mechanisms underlying schizophrenia has resulted in theproposal of several hypotheses to explain the impacts of environmental, genetic,neurodevelopmental, immune and inflammatory factors on disease onset andprogression. This review discusses the newest insights into the pathophysiologyof and risk factors for schizophrenia and notes novel approaches in antipsychotictreatment and potential diagnostic and theranostic biomarkers. The currenthypotheses focusing on neuromediators (dopamine, glutamate, and serotonin),neuroinflammation, the cannabinoid hypothesis, the gut-brain axis model, andoxidative stress are summarized. Key genetic features, including small nucleotidepolymorphisms, copy number variations, microdeletions, mutations andepigenetic changes, are highlighted. Current pharmacotherapy of schizophreniarelies mostly on dopaminergic and serotonergic antagonists/partial agonists, butnew findings in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia have allowed theexpansion of novel approaches in pharmacotherapy and the establishment ofmore reliable biomarkers. Substances with promising results in preclinical andclinical studies include lumateperone, pimavanserin, xanomeline, roluperidone,agonists of trace amine-associated receptor 1, inhibitors of glycine transporters,AMPA allosteric modulators, mGLUR2-3 agonists, D-amino acid oxidase inhibitorsand cannabidiol. The use of anti-inflammatory agents as an add-on therapy ismentioned.

Understanding sheep baa-haviour: Investigating the relationship between pasture and animal grazing patterns

Background:Grasslands are the primary source of feed for grazing livestock,and as such,knowledge on how to best manage livestock and grasslands,through the use of spatiotemporal modelling,will assist in the long-term management of a valuable ecosystem ***:This study was conducted over 14 months between March and April 2017 in Orange,NSW,*** study evaluated sheep behaviour in relation to the presence of pasture species,environment and paddock structures,using random forest modelling,to predict sheep location under continuous high(HSR,13 DSE ha−1)and low(LSR,7DSE ha−1)stocking ***:In the LSR,significant drivers included water,shade and fence lines(p<0.01).In the HSR,only fence lines and available biomass were found to be significant(p<0.01).The presence of green legumes in both stocking rates often increased residency by *** spent more time together in the LSR,suggesting that social behaviour played a larger role than pasture quantity and quality in driving grazing ***:Understanding how pasture type can influence grazing behaviours and also how animal behaviour affects pasture performance and utilisation is important in developing long-term sustainable management strategies on a paddock scale.

Improvement of VIS and IR camouflage properties by impregnating cotton fabric with PVB/IF-WS_(2)

In order to examine the possibility to improve its camouflage properties standard cotton fabric with camouflage print was impregnated with poly(vinyl butyral),PVB and fullerene-like nanoparticles of tungsten disulfide,PVB/IF-WS_(2).FTIR analysis excluded any possible chemical interaction of IF-WS_(2) with PVB and the *** camouflage behavior of the impregnated fabric has been examined firstly in the VIS part of the *** reflection,specular gloss and color coordinates were measured for three different shades(black,brown and dark green).Thermal imaging was applied to examine the camouflage abilities of this impregnation in IR part of the *** obtained results show that PVB/IF-WS_(2) impregnation system induced enhacement of the materials camouflage properties,*** IF-WS_(2) have a positive effect on spectrophotometric characteristics of the fabric.
