Innovative application of the Echinacea purpurea (L.) extract-phospholipid phytosomes embedded within Alyssum homolocarpum seed gum film for enhancing the shelf life of chicken meat

To the best of our knowledge, “phytosomal” encapsulation of extracts in edible films has not been applied for enhancing the shelf life of food products by now;as a result, phytosomal encapsulation was used in this research to bring about a sustainable release of the extract from the edible film and prompt a significant shelf life enhancement. For this purpose, first, the Alyssum homolocarpum seed gum (AHSG) film was enriched with various levels (1–20% w/w) of Echinacea purpurea (L.) extract-phospholipid phytosome (EEPP) and, then, the structural (FTIR and SEM), thermal, physicochemical, mechanical and radical scavenging properties of the films as well as release kinetics of the extracts from the films were evaluated. Then, the chicken meat was packaged with the developed film and its different parameters including microbial population, chemical indices (TBARS and pH) as well as sensory properties of the meat were compared with those of the control film. Based on the results, as the EEPP percentage increased, water solubility, moisture content, water vapor permeability of AHSG films decreased favorably, and their tensile strength enhanced successfully. Besides, incorporation of EEPP improved the radical scavenging properties and melting point of the base film considerably. Structural surveys revealed that some chemical interactions (hydrogen bonds) occurred between EEPP and AHSG matrix. A two-fold increase in the shelf life of meat was recognized as the microbial and chemical indices of the developed film after 14 days were even better than those indices of the control film after 7 days.

Predicting the presence of adenomatous polyps during colonoscopy with National Cancer Institute Colorectal Cancer Risk-Assessment Tool

AIM To evaluate the National Cancer Institute(NCI)Colorectal Cancer(CRC)Risk Assessment Tool as a predictor for the presence of adenomatous polyps(AP) found during screening or surveillance *** This is a retrospective single center observational *** collected data of adenomatous polyps in each colonoscopy and then evaluated the lifetime CRC *** calculated the AP prevalence across risk score quintiles,odds ratios of the prevalence of AP across risk score quintiles,area under curves(AUCs)and Youden’s indexes to assess the optimal risk score cut off value for AP prevalence *** The prevalence of AP gradually increased throughout the five risk score quintiles:i.e.,27.63%in the first and 51.35%in the fifth *** odd ratios of AP prevalence in the fifth quintile compared to the first and second quintile were 2.76[confidence interval(CI):1.71-4.47]and 2.09(CI:1.32-3.30).The AUC for all patients was 0.62(CI:0.58-0.66).Youden’s Index indicated the optimal risk score cutoff value discriminating AP prevalence status was *** Patients with the higher NCI risk score have higher risk of AP and subsequent CRC;therefore,measures to increase the effectiveness of CRC detection in these patients include longer withdrawal time,early surveillance colonoscopy,and choosing flexible colonoscopy over other CRC screening modalities.

As a widely used rock excavation method in civil and mining construction works, the blasting operations and theinduced side effects are always investigated by the existing studies. The occurrence of flyrock is regarded as one ofthe most important issues induced by blasting operations, since the accurate prediction of which is crucial fordelineating safety zone. For this purpose, this study developed a flyrock prediction model based on 234 sets ofblasting data collected from Sugun Copper Mine site. A stacked multiple kernel support vector machine (stackedMK-SVM) model was proposed for flyrock prediction. The proposed stacked structure can effectively improve themodel performance by addressing the importance level of different features. For comparison purpose, 6 othermachine learning models were developed, including SVM, MK-SVM, Lagragian Twin SVM (LTSVM), ArtificialNeural Network (ANN), Random Forest (RF) and M5 Tree. This study implemented a 5-fold cross validationprocess for hyperparameters tuning purpose. According to the evaluation results, the proposed stacked MK-SVMmodel achieved the best overall performance, with RMSE of 1.73 and 1.74, MAE of 0.58 and 1.08, VAF of 98.95and 99.25 in training and testing phase, respectively.

The molecular mechanism underlying dormancy release and the induction of flowering remains poorly understood in woody ***-legacy is a valuable blueberry mutant,in which a transgene insertion caused increased expression of a RESPONSE REGULATOR 2-like gene(VcRR2).Mu-legacy plants,compared with nontransgenic‘Legacy’plants,show dwarfing,promotion of flower bud formation,and can flower under nonchilling *** conducted transcriptomic comparisons in leaves,chilled and nonchilled flowering buds,and late-pink buds,and analyzed a total of 41 metabolites of six groups of hormones in leaf tissues of both Mu-legacy and‘Legacy’*** analyses uncovered that increased VcRR2 expression promotes the expression of a homolog of Arabidopsis thaliana ENTCOPALYL DIPHOSPHATE SYNTHETASE 1(VcGA1),which induces new homeostasis of hormones,including increased gibberellin 4(GA4)levels in Mu-legacy ***,increased expression of VcRR2 and VcGA1,which function in cytokinin responses and gibberellin synthesis,respectively,initiated the reduction in plant height and the enhancement of flower bud formation of the Mu-legacy plants through interactions of multiple *** nonchilled flower buds,29 differentially expressed transcripts of 17 genes of five groups of hormones were identified in transcriptome comparisons between Mu-legacy and‘Legacy’plants,of which 22 were chilling ***,these analyses suggest that increased expression of VcRR2 was collectively responsible for promoting flower bud formation in highbush blueberry under nonchilling *** report here for the first time the importance of VcRR2 to induce a suite of downstream hormones that promote flowering in woody plants.

BACKGROUND Idiopathic omental infarction(IOI)is challenging to diagnose due to its low incidence and vague *** differential diagnosis also poses difficulties because it can mimic many intra-abdominal organ *** hypercoagulability and thrombosis are among the causes of omental infarction,venous thromboembolism scanning is rarely performed as an etiological *** SUMMARY The medical records of the 5 cases,who had the diagnosis of IOI by computed tomography,were *** majority of the patients were male(n=4,80%)and the mean age was 31 years(range:21-38).The patients had no previous abdominal surgery or a history of any chronic *** main complaint of all patients was persistent abdominal *** infarction was detected in all patients with contrast-enhanced computed *** treatment was initially preferred in all patients,but it failed in 1 patient(20%).After discharge,all patients were referred to the hematology department for thrombophilia *** 1 patient applied for thrombophilia screening and was homozygous for methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase(A1298C mutation)and heterozygous for a factor V Leiden *** IOI should be considered in the differential diagnosis in patients presenting with progressive and/or persistent right side abdominal *** risk factors such as hypercoagulability in patients with IOI is also important in preventing future conditions related to venous thromboembolism.

Identifying mining-induced chromium contamination in soil through visible-near infrared spectroscopy and machine learning

The extraction,purification,and utilization of mineral resources have been among the largest anthropogenic sources of chromium(Cr)in *** Cr contamination in soil is a key issue prior to its appropriate ***,the efficient identification of large-scale soil Cr contamination requires continuous *** present study proposes a continental-scale method to rapidly identify soil Cr contamination using visible-near infrared spectroscopy(vis-NIR)and machine learning(ML).A large dataset containing 18,675topsoil samples from the Land Use/Land Cover Area Frame Survey 2009 projects across Europe was *** advanced ML algorithms were compared,and hyperparameter optimization was conducted using the grid search *** importance was employed to calculate the rank of each spectral wavelength,shedding light on the most sensitive spectral wavelength for Cr *** indicate that hyperparameter optimization had the most significant performance improvement on support vector machine(SVM),exhibiting an increase in training performance from 0.795 to *** achieved optimal SVM accuracy,area under the receiver operating feature curve,sensitivity,and specificity of 0.78,0.85,0.85,and 0.66,respectively,indicating excellent predictive performance on the Cr contamination *** optimal SVM model revealed that the most important spectral band for classifying Cr contamination was 1430-1433 *** finding implies that the adsorption of molecular water was closely related to the classification of Cr *** current study introduces the first continental-scale identification of Cr contamination using visNIR,which has excellent guiding significance for Cr remediation and the identification of other heavy metals using vis-NIR.

Peach was frequently observed to bear different colors of flowers on the same *** the genetic mechanism underlying this attractive phenomenon has not been completely *** sequenced and analyzed the key structural genes in the anthocyanin biosynthesis pathway,and found that the ANS gene of white flower contained a 129bp sequence that lacked in pink petals,which resulted in a deficient ANS protein in the white petals due to intron *** protein is a 2-oxoglutarate(20G)iron-dependent oxygenase enzyme responsible for the transformation of the colorless leucopelargonidin or leucocyanidin into the colored *** modeling of the white and pink ANS revealed that inton retention caused the loss of FE 2:1 ligand in the white ANS,thereby diminished its affinity to ferricion,which eventually led to the dysfunction of the translated *** accordance to this finding,we detected extremely low level of cyanidin-based anthocyanin and virtually no pelargonidin-based anthocyanin in white petals by HPLC and LC/MS *** a consequence,dysfunction of white ANS would result in the accumulation of colorless leucopelargonidin and leucocyanidin and block the conversion of substrates for the downstream enzymatic proteins,which in turn suppress the expression of the flavonoid biosynthesis genes in white *** speculation was verified by the results of qRT-PCR analysis in our study.
