Activation of Defense Response Pathways by OGs and Fig22 Elicitors in Arabidopsis Seedlings

We carried out transcriptional profiling analysis in 10-d-old Arabidopsis thaliana seedlings treated with oligogalacturonides （OGs）, oligosaccharides derived from the plant cell wall, or the bacterial flagellin peptide Fig22, general elicitors of the basal defense response in plants. Although detected by different receptors, both OGs and Fig22 trigger a fast and transient response that is both similar and comprehensive, and characterized by activation of early stages of multiple defense signaling pathways, particularly JA-associated processes. However, the response to Fig22 is stronger in both the number of genes differentially expressed and the amplitude of change. The magnitude of induction of individual genes is in both cases dose-dependent, but, even at very high concentrations, OGs do not induce a response that is as comprehensive as that seen with Fig22. While high doses of either microbe-associated molecular pattern （MAMP） elicit a late response that includes activation of senescence processes, SA-dependent secretory pathway genes and PR1 expres- sion are substantially induced only by Fig22. These results suggest a lower threshold for activation of early responses than for sustained or SA-mediated late defenses. Expression patterns of amino-cyclopropane-carboxylate synthase genes also implicate ethylene biosynthesis in regulation of the late innate immune response.

Seedling potential of trees species along the elevational gradient in temperate hill forest of central Nepal

Regeneration status of tree species along elevation gradient in temperate hill forest was not understood *** research examined the tree diversity and its regeneration patterns along an elevation gradient in temperate hill forest,central *** were collected from 300 sample plots within vertical elevation bands of 10,ranging from 1365 to 2450 m asl.A random sampling method was used for data collection in three seasons,winter,pre-monsoon and post monsoon *** at breast height(DBH)was used to broadly categorize the plant individual into trees,saplings and *** tree species richness ranged from 12 to 25 with density of 350 to 1200 individuals per *** richness of tree and sapling showed statistically significant unimodal pattern,which peaked at *** showed a strong and positive linear correlation with the seedling density(Deviance=0.99,plevations showed a statistically significant negative hump-shaped relationship with all trees,saplings and seedling stages(Deviances=0.89,0.87 and 0.57).The highest values of the Shannon-Wiener index and the lowest value of the Simpson index were found at mid-elevation for all growth *** 92%of tree species were found at regenerating stage;49%in a good renewal regeneration status,32%in fair renewal regeneration,and 11%at a poor regenerating ***,4%of tree species were reported as non-regenerating stages and 4%were newly introduced ***,the regeneration status of the study area was considered fairly well since sapling(78.5%)>seedling(10.6%)≤mature(10.9%).Among tested environmental variables,elevation and annual mean rainfall were the most influential factors in the regeneration of tree species.

Thermal energy conversion and also storage system is to advance knowledge and develop practical solutions at the intersection of micro and nano-scale engineering,energy conversion,and *** research addresses the challenge of enhancing these critical aspects to ensure prolonged system performance and durability in the context of evolving energy *** research analyses the anti-oxidation and filtration behaviours of micro and nano-scale structures in the context of electro-and photo-thermal energy conversion and also storage systems.A micro multiscale hierarchical structure strategy is presented to fabricate multi-scale double-layer porous wick evaporators with the electrospun nanofibers made of gelatin-polyamide 6(GPA6)and Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)MXene/silver nanowire with Cellulose Micro/NanoFibers(CMNF)cryogens by using spark plasma sintering(SPS)based high-pressure hydrothermal treatment *** excellent anti-oxidation effect was offered by coating the film in thermal conditions and the anti-oxidation properties were further examined from 500℃to850℃.The results are analysed using Matlab software to improve the efficiency of energy conversion processes by integrating nanostructures into thermal systems,to increase energy output while minimizing *** silver nanowire is with a heat transfer coefficient of 78%,a mass remaining rate of 98.7%,and an energy storage efficiency of 23.8%.This study enhances energy density and duration by integrating nanostructures into thermal systems while minimizing energy losses,and it not only exhibits excellent anti-oxidation properties but also possesses superior filtration capabilities for designing and engineering multifunctional nanomaterials.

Interaction between diet and genetics in patients with inflammatory bowel disease

In this editorial,we comment on the article by Marangoni et al,published in the recent issue of the World Journal of Gastroenterology 2023;29:5618-5629,about“Diet as an epigenetic factor in inflammatory bowel disease”.The authors emphasized the role of diet,especially the interaction with genetics,in promoting the inflam-matory process in inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)patients,focusing on DNA methylation,histone modifications,and the influence of *** this editorial,we explore the interaction between genetics,gut microbiota,and diet,in an only ***,we provided dietary recommendations for patients with *** Western diet,characterized by a low fiber content and deficiency the micronutrients,impacts short-chain fatty acids production and may be related to the pathogenesis of *** the other hand,the consumption of the Mediter-ranean diet and dietary fibers are associated with reduced risk of IBD flares,particularly in Crohn’s disease(CD)*** to the dietary guidance from the International Organization for the Study of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases(IOIBD),the regular consumption of fruits and vegetables while reducing the consumption of saturated,trans,dairy fat,additives,processed foods rich in maltodextrins,and artificial sweeteners containing sucralose or saccharine is recommended to CD *** patients with ulcerative colitis,the IOIBD recommends the increased intake of natural sources of omega-3 fatty acids and follows the same restrictive recommendations aimed at CD patients,with the possible inclusion of red *** conclusion,IBD is a complex and hetero-geneous disease,and future studies are needed to elucidate the influence of epigenetics on diet and microbiota in IBD patients.

Synthesis of hierarchically porous carbon materials by zinc salts-assisted carbonization of biomass and organic solid wastes

Hierarchically porous carbons(HPCs)with multimodal pores have attracted considerable attention due to their unique physical and chemical properties and various application potentials in heterogeneous catalysis,environmental treatment,and energy storage and ***,we report a general and simple zinc salts-assisted method for the synthesis of HPCs with varied porosity and chemical func-tionalities by the direct carbonization of diverse biomass and *** the carbonization,zinc salts are thermally decomposed into nanoparticles that serve as in-situ templates to introduce nanopores in *** prepared HPCs exhibit high specific surface areas(up to 2432 m2 g-1),large pore volumes(up to 4.30 cm^(3)g^(-1)),and broad pore size ***,the zinc salts can be recovered and recycled,supporting the sustainable production of HPCs on large *** prepared HPCs-supported catalysts with atomically dispersed metal sites exhibit promising electrocatalytic performance for the oxygen reduction reaction.

Contrasting physical mechanisms of yellowfin tuna fluctuations between the western and eastern Indian Ocean

As an economically critical pelagic migratory species,yellowfin tuna(Thunnus albacores,YFT)is very sensible to physical and environmental conditions,such as sea surface temperature(SST),ocean heat content(OHC),and the mixed layer depth(MLD).We investigated the impact of SST,OHC,and MLD on fluctuations of YFT catch in the western/eastern Indian Ocean using the long time series of 63-year environmental and YFT *** found that the impact of SST on YFT was heavily overestimated in the past,and MLD plays a more critical role in the YFT catch *** the MLD deepens(>34.8 m),SST was more influential in predicting the catches of YFT than OHC in the western Indian Ocean,and OHC was more critical to YFT than SST in the eastern Indian ***,when the MLD shallows(<34.8 m),MLD was more vital to predict the catch per unit effort(CPUE)of YFT than SST/OHC in the *** 2000,there was an asynchronous pattern of YFT CPUE induced by higher frequency variations and ocean hiatus of SST/OHC signals in the western and eastern Indian Oceans *** impact of the subsurface hiatus may induce the decrease of YFT in the eastern Indian *** above findings clarified a non-stationary relationship between the environmental factors and catches of YFT and provided new insights into variations in YFT abundance.

The adaptation of insects to environments relies on a sophisticated set of behaviors controlled by molecular and physiological *** the past several decades,accumulating studies have unveiled the roles of non-coding RNAs(nc RNAs)in regulating insect *** RNAs assume particularly pivotal roles in the behavioral plasticity of insects by rapidly responding to environmental *** RNAs also contribute to the maintenance of homeostasis of insects by fine-tuning the expression of target ***,a comprehensive review of nc RNAs'roles in regulating insect behaviors has yet to be ***,we present the recent progress in our understanding of how nc RNAs regulate various insect behaviors,including flight and movement,social behavior,reproduction,learning and memory,and *** refine the intricate mechanisms by which nc RNAs modulate the function of neural,motor,reproductive,and other physiological systems,as well as gene expression in insects like fruit flies,social insects,locusts,and ***,we discuss potential avenues for future studies in nc RNA-mediated insect behaviors.

Impacts of central-Pacific El Niño and physical drivers on eastern Pacific bigeye tuna

Bigeye tuna Thunnus obesus is an important migratory species that forages deeply,and El Niño events highly influence its distribution in the eastern Pacific *** sea surface temperature is widely recognized as the main factor affecting bigeye tuna(BET)distribution during El Niño events,the roles of different types of El Niño and subsurface oceanic signals,such as ocean heat content and mixed layer depth,remain *** conducted A spatial-temporal analysis to investigate the relationship among BET distribution,El Niño events,and the underlying oceanic signals to address this knowledge *** used monthly purse seine fisheries data of BET in the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean(ETPO)from 1994 to 2012 and extracted the central-Pacific El Niño(CPEN)indices based on Niño 3 and Niño ***,we employed Explainable Artificial Intelligence(XAI)models to identify the main patterns and feature importance of the six environmental variables and used information flow analysis to determine the causality between the selected factors and BET ***,we analyzed Argo datasets to calculate the vertical,horizontal,and zonal mean temperature differences during CPEN and normal years to clarify the oceanic thermodynamic structure differences between the two types of *** findings reveal that BET distribution during the CPEN years is mainly driven by advection feedback of subsurface warmer thermal signals and vertically warmer habitats in the CPEN domain area,especially in high-yield fishing *** high frequency of CPEN events will likely lead to the westward shift of fisheries centers.

Machine learning based models for predicting compressive strength of geopolymer concrete

Recently,great attention has been paid to geopolymer concrete due to its advantageous mechanical and environmentally friendly *** effort has been made in experimental studies to advance the understanding of geopolymer concrete,in which compressive strength is one of the most important *** facilitate engineering work on the material,an efficient predicting model is *** this study,three machine learning(ML)-based models,namely deep neural network(DNN),K-nearest neighbors(KNN),and support vector machines(SVM),are developed for forecasting the compressive strength of the geopolymer concrete.A total of 375 experimental samples are collected from the literature to build a database for the development of the predicting models.A careful procedure for data preprocessing is implemented,by which outliers are examined and removed from the database and input variables are standardized before feeding to the fitting *** standard K-fold cross-validation approach is applied for evaluating the performance of the models so that overfitting status is well managed,thus the generalizability of the models is *** effectiveness of the models is assessed via statistical metrics including root mean squared error(RMSE),mean absolute error(MAE),correlation coefficient(R),and the recently proposed performance index(PI).The basic mean square error(MSE)is used as the loss function to be minimized during the model fitting *** three ML-based models are successfully developed for estimating the compressive strength,for which good correlations between the predicted and the true values are obtained for DNN,KNN,and *** numerical results suggest that the DNN model generally outperforms the other two models.
