A whole process damage constitutive model for layered sandstone under uniaxial compression based on Logistic function

Bedding structural planes significantly influence the mechanical properties and stability of engineering rock *** study conducts uniaxial compression tests on layered sandstone with various bedding angles(0°,15°,30°,45°,60°,75°and 90°)to explore the impact of bedding angle on the deformational mechanical response,failure mode,and damage evolution processes of *** develops a damage model based on the Logistic equation derived from the modulus’s degradation considering the combined effect of the sandstone bedding dip angle and *** model is employed to study the damage accumulation state and its evolution within the layered rock *** research also introduces a piecewise constitutive model that considers the initial compaction characteristics to simulate the whole deformation process of layered sandstone under uniaxial *** results revealed that as the bedding angle increases from 0°to 90°,the uniaxial compressive strength and elastic modulus of layered sandstone significantly decrease,slightly increase,and then decline *** corresponding failure modes transition from splitting tensile failure to slipping shear failure and back to splitting tensile *** indicated by the modulus’s degradation,the damage characteristics can be categorized into four stages:initial no damage,damage initiation,damage acceleration,and damage deceleration *** theoretical damage model based on the Logistic equation effectively simulates and predicts the entire damage evolution ***,the theoretical constitutive model curves closely align with the actual stress−strain curves of layered sandstone under uniaxial *** introduced constitutive model is concise,with fewer parameters,a straightforward parameter determination process,and a clear physical *** study offers valuable insights into the theory of layered rock mechanics and holds implications for ensuring the safety of rock engineering.

Effects of water molecules on luminescence in europium and terbium coordination polymers with p-fluorobenzoic acid as ligand

Our previous experimental observations show that the crystal structure of lanthanide luminescent complexes synthesized in aqueous solution usually contains a large number of coordination water molecules or free water *** order to probe the influence of water molecules on luminescent processes of lanthanide complexes,the photoluminescence properties of Ln-FBA(Ln=Eu and Tb,FBA=p-fluorobenzoic acid)coordination polymers at different ambient temperatures,in different solvents and aqueous DMSO solutions with different volume concentrations were systematically *** experiment results show that the presence of water molecules can promote the energy transfer from FBA ligand to Ln3+,at the same time,can cause luminescent non-radiation quenching of lanthanide *** addition,the variation of emission intensity ratio of 615 nm/591 nm peaks of Eu^(3+)with increasing the volume concentration of H_(2)O can be potentially used for the quantitatively detection of water traces in organic *** order to suppress the non-radiation quenching caused by the water molecules,Ln-FBA(Ln=Eu and Tb)coordination polymers were embedded into the PVP matrix to prepare Ln-FBA@PVP hybrid *** photoluminescence investigation indicates that PVP can not only block the quenching effect of water molecules on luminescence,but also effectively sensitize Eu^(3+)and Tb^(3+)*** experimental conclusions are useful for probing the influence of water molecules on luminescent processes of lanthanide complexes,quantitatively detecting water traces in organic solvents and enhancing the photoluminescence intensity in lanthanide complexes.

Computational and dark-field ghost imaging with ultraviolet light

Ultraviolet(UV)imaging enables a diverse array of applications,such as material composition analysis,biological fluorescence imaging,and detecting defects in semiconductor ***,scientific-grade UV cameras with high quantum efficiency are expensive and include complex thermoelectric cooling ***,we demonstrate a UV computational ghost imaging(UV-CGI)method to provide a cost-effective UV imaging and detection *** applying spatial–temporal illumination patterns and using a 325 nm laser source,a singlepixel detector is enough to reconstruct the images of *** use UV-CGI to distinguish four UV-sensitive sunscreen areas with different densities on a ***,we demonstrate dark-field UV-CGI in both transmission and reflection *** only collecting the scattered light from objects,we can detect the edges of pure phase objects and small scratches on a compact *** results showcase a feasible low-cost solution for nondestructive UV imaging and *** combining it with other imaging techniques,such as hyperspectral imaging or time-resolved imaging,a compact and versatile UV computational imaging platform may be realized for future applications.

D-band center coordination modulated enzyme-like activity in Fe-Cu dual-metal single-atom nanozymes

After explorations in a diversity of single-atom nanozymes(SAzymes),developing dual-centered SAzymes becomes a promising approach for superior catalytic *** confusing mechanisms including atomic coordination,spatial configuration,and metal–metal atom interaction hinder the development and design of ***,a dual-centered Fe-Cu-N_(x)SAzyme exhibits excellent peroxidase(POD)-and catalase(CAT)-like activities with d-band center(ε_(d))coordination of Fe and Cu in multiple reaction stages,which plays a critical role in the adsorption of H_(2)O_(2)molecule and H_(2)O and O_(2)***,the dband center coordination,which can be represented byε_(d)(Fe)–ε_(d)(Cu)shifts,leads to the competition between one-side and bilateral adsorption,which determines the favorable reaction path with lower energy *** on experimental statistics,simulated formation energies,and reaction barriers,3 configurations,Fe-Cu-N6-I,Fe-Cu-N_(8)-II,and Fe-Cu-N_(8)-III,are modeled and ***,configuration-dependent catalytic selectivity and the competition between one-side and bilateral adsorption can be unveiled by d-band center coordination paradigm *** simulations suggest that the unsymmetrical charge distribution over the three Fe-Cu configurations could tune the adsorption strength compared with the counterparts FeN_(4)and CuN_(4).The present work provides a potential route for optimizing enzyme-like catalysis by designing the dual-or even triple-metal SAzymes,which demonstrates the large space to modulate the metal atomic configuration and interaction.

Efficient electroreduction of nitrate via enriched active phases on copper-cobalt oxides

Electrochemical conversion of nitrate(NO_(3)~-) to ammonia(NH_(3)) can target two birds with one stone well, in NO_(3)^(-)-containing sewage remediation and sustainable NH_(3) production. However, single metalbased catalysts are difficult to drive high-efficient NO_(3)~- removal due to the multi-electron transfer ***, we present a tandem catalyst with simple structure, Cu-Co binary metal oxides(Cu-Co-O), by engineering intermediate phases as catalytic active species for NO_(3)~- conversion. Electrochemical evaluation,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and in situ Raman spectra together suggest that the newly-generated Cu-based phases was prone to NO_(3)~- to NO_(2)~- conversion, then NO_(2)~- was reduced to NH_(3) on Co-based species. At an applied potential of -1.1 V vs. saturated calomel electrode, the Cu-Co-O catalyst achieved NO_(3)~- -N removal of 90% and NH_(3) faradaic efficiency of 81% for 120 min in 100 m L of 50 mg/L NO_(3)~- -N,consuming only 0.69 k Wh/mol in a two-electrode system. This study provides a facile and efficient engineering strategy for developing high-performance catalysts for electrocatalytic nitrate conversion.

Meiosis is the process of producing haploid gametes through a series of complex chromosomal events and the coordinated action of various *** mitochondrial protease complex(ClpXP),which consists of caseinolytic mitochondrial matrix peptidase X(ClpX)and caseinolytic protease P(ClpP)and mediates the degradation of misfolded,damaged,and oxidized proteins,is essential for maintaining mitochondrial *** has been implicated in meiosis regulation,but its precise role is currently *** this study,we engineered an inducible male germ cell-specific knockout caseinolytic mitochondrial matrix peptidase X(Clpx^(cKO))mouse model to investigate the function of ClpX in *** found that disrupting Clpx in male mice induced germ cell apoptosis and led to an absence of sperm in the ***,it caused asynapsis of homologous chromosomes and impaired meiotic recombination,resulting in meiotic arrest in the zygotene-to-pachytene transition *** loss of ClpX compromised the double-strand break(DSB)repair machinery by markedly reducing the recruitment of DNA repair protein RAD51 homolog 1(RAD51)to DSB *** dysfunction may be due to an insufficient supply of energy from the aberrant mitochondria in Clpx^(cKO) spermatocytes,as discerned by electron ***,ubiquitination signals on chromosomes and the expression of oxidative phosphorylation subunits were both significantly attenuated in Clpx^(cKO) *** together,we propose that ClpX is essential for maintaining mitochondrial protein homeostasis and ensuring homologous chromosome pairing,synapsis,and recombination in spermatocytes during meiotic prophase I.

Clay-type Li deposits are poised to play a pivotal role in addressing the surging global demand for *** McDermitt clay-type Li deposit,located in Nevada,is the largest Li deposit in the United States,with Li hosted by a clay-rich sequence of smectite-dominated intervals and illite-dominated intervals,***,the occurrence of Li and the genesis of Li-bearing minerals within smectite-dominated intervals have not been thoroughly investigated in previous ***,we studied the mineralogy,the in-situ Li distribution,and the bonding environments of Li within the smectite intervals using a combination of instru-mental techniques including scanning electron microscope,transmission electron microscope,time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry,and nuclear magnetic *** results indicate that the smectite exhibits low crystallinity characteristics of lacustrine clay authigenesis and is com-monly found tofill the interstices among volcanic minerals or envelop them;Li is mainly hosted by Mg-smectite rather than the volcanic *** the tuffaceous sediment samples,the volcanic glass has undergone a transformation,resulting in its complete disappearance and alteration into clay *** to the octahedral sites of Mg-smectite bounded in Li,it is referred to be *** interpret that the hectorite’s precipitation occurs in a high saline-alkaline water environment,a result of McDermitt *** conclusion can be supported by the coexistence of spherulitic calcite and ***,this study confirms hectorite as the main Li-bearing mineral and increases the understanding of the genetic model of hectorite formation in intracontinental caldera basins.

Defect engineering on BiFeO_(3) through Na and V codoping for aqueous Na-ion capacitors

Sodium with low cost and high abundance is considered as a substitute element of lithium for batteries and supercapacitors,which need the appropriate host materials to accommodate the relatively large Na^(+) *** to Li^(+) storage,Na^(+) storage makes higher demands on the structural optimization of perovskite bismuth ferrite(BiFeO_(3)).We propose a novel strategy of defect engineering on BiFeO_(3) through Na and V codoping for high-efficiency Na^(+) storage,to reveal the roles of oxygen vacancies and V ions played in the enhanced electrochemical energy storage performances of Na-ion *** formation of the oxygen vacancies in the Na and V codoped BiFeO_(3)(denoted as NV-BFO),is promoted by Na doping and suppressed by V doping,which can be demonstrated by XPS and EPR *** the first-principles calculations,the oxygen vacancies and V ions in NV-BFO are confirmed to substantially lower the Na^(+)migration energy barriers through the space and electric field effects,to effectively promote the Na^(+) transport in the *** kinetic analysis of the NV-BFO//NV-BFO capacitors indicates the dominant capacitive-controlled capacity,which depends on fast Na^(+) deintercalation-intercalation process in the NV-BFO *** NV-BFO//NV-BFO capacitors open up a new avenue for developing highperformance Na-ion capacitors.
