Dear Editor,GABAergic interneurons contribute to cortical function by regulating the balance of activity.Malfunction of inhibitory interneurons has been associated with neuropsychiatric disorders(Hashimoto et al.2003;Marín 2012).The most striking feature of GABAergic interneurons is their diversity of cell types.Although fate-mapping studies have demonstrated the presence of spatially and temporally distinct progenitor domains for interneuron subclasses within the embryonic ventral telencephalon(Butt et al.2005;Inan et al.2012),the mechanisms of interneuron subtype-determination during development remain poorly understood.

Background： Late-onset multiple acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency （MADD） is the most common type of lipid storage myopathies in China. Most patients with late-onset MADD are well responsive to riboflavin. Up to now, these patients are often treated with glucocorticoids as the first-line drug because they are misdiagnosed as polymyositis without muscle biopsy or gene analysis. Although glucocorticoids seem to improve the fatty acid metabolism of late-onset MADD, the objective evaluation of their rationalization on this disorder and comparison with riboflavin treatment are unknown. Methods： We performed a historical cohort study on the efficacy of the two drugs among 45 patients with late-onset MADD, who were divided into glucocorticoids group and riboflavin group. Detailed clinical information of baseline and 1-month follow-up were collected. Results： After 1-month treatment, a dramatic improvement of muscle strength was found in riboflavin group （P 〈 0.05）. There was no significant difference in muscle enzymes between the two groups. Significantly, the number of patients with full recovery in glucocorticoids group was less than the number in riboflavin group （P 〈 0.05）. On the other hand, almost half of the patients in riboflavin group still presented high-level muscle enzymes and weak muscle strength after 1-month riboflavin treatment, meaning that l-month treatment duration maybe insufficient and patients should keep on riboflavin supplement for a longer time. Conclusions： Our results provide credible evidences that the overall efficacy of riboflavin is superior to glucocorticoids, and a longer duration of riboflavin treatment is necessary for patients with late-onset MADD.

Background： Progressive myoclonus epilepsies （PMEs） conaprise a group of rare genetic disorders characterized by action rnyoclonus, epileptic seizures, and ataxia with progressive neurologic decline. Due to clinical and genetic heterogeneity of PMEs, it is difficult to decide which genes are affected. The aim of this study was to report an action myoclonus with or without renal failure syndrome （EPM4） fhmily and summarize the clinical and genetic characteristics of all reported EPM4 patients. Meihods： In the present study, targeted next-generation sequencing （NGS） was applied to screen causative genes in a Chinese PME family. The candidaie variant was further confirmed by cosegregation analysis and further functional analysis, including the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and Western blot of the proband＇s muscle. Moreovel, literature data on the clinical and mutational features of all reported EPM4 patients were reviewed. Results： The gene analysis revealed a novel homozygous splicing mutation （c.995-1G〉A） of the SCARB2 gene in two brothers. Further functional analysis revealed that this mutation led to loss function of the SCARB2 protein. The classification of the candidate variant, according to the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics standards and guidelines and functional analysis, was pathogenic. Therefore, these two brothers were finally diagnostically confirmed as EPM4. Conclusions： These present results suggest the potential for targeted NGS to conduct a more rapid and precise diagnosis for PME patients. A literature review revealed that mutations in the different functional domains of SCARB2 appear to be associated with the phenotype of EPM4.

The influence of air gaps on the response of transmission for a transverse-electric mode parallel-plate waveguide（TE-PPWG） with a single cavity and double cavities has been studied experimentally. As the air gap is larger than the resonant wavelength of high order cavity mode in the single deep grooved waveguide, only the fundamental cavity mode can be excited and single resonance can be observed in the transmission spectrum. Based on above observations, a tunable multiband terahertz（THz）notch filter has been proposed and the variation of air gap has turned out to be an effective method to select the band number. Experimental data and simulated results verify this band number tunability. This mechanical control mechanism for electromagnetic induced transparency（EIT） will open a door to design the tunable THz devices.

Non-point source pollution is one of the primarily ecological issues affecting the Three Gorges Reservoir Area. In this paper, landscape resistance and motivation coefficient, which integrated various landscape elements, such as land use, soil, hydrology, topography, and vegetation, was established based on the effects of large-scale resistance and motivation on the formation of non-point source pollution. In addition, cost models of the landscape re- sistance and motivation coefficients were constructed based on the distances from the land- scape units to the sub-basin outlets in order to identify the ＂source＂ and ＂sink＂ patterns af- fecting the formation of non-point source pollution. The results indicated that the changes in the landscape resistance and motivation coefficients of the 16 sub-basins exhibited inverse relationships to their spatial distributions. The landscape resistance and motivation cost curves were more volatile than the landscape resistance and motivation coefficient curves. The landscape resistance and motivation cost trends of the 16 sub-basins became increas- ingly apparent along the flow of the Yangtze River. The landscape resistance and motivation cost models proposed in this paper could be used to identify large-scale non-point source pollution ＂source＂ and ＂sink＂ patterns. Moreover, the proposed model could be used to de- scribe the large-scale spatial characteristics of non-point source pollution formation based on ＂source＂ and ＂sink＂ landscape pattern indices, spatial localization, and landscape resistance and motivation coefficients.

Adaptive Boundary and Semantic Composite Segmentation Method for Individual Objects in Aerial Images

There are two types of methods for image segmentation.One is traditional image processing methods,which are sensitive to details and boundaries,yet fail to recognize semantic information.The other is deep learning methods,which can locate and identify different objects,but boundary identifications are not accurate enough.Both of them cannot generate entire segmentation information.In order to obtain accurate edge detection and semantic information,an Adaptive Boundary and Semantic Composite Segmentation method(ABSCS)is proposed.This method can precisely semantic segment individual objects in large-size aerial images with limited GPU performances.It includes adaptively dividing and modifying the aerial images with the proposed principles and methods,using the deep learning method to semantic segment and preprocess the small divided pieces,using three traditional methods to segment and preprocess original-size aerial images,adaptively selecting traditional results tomodify the boundaries of individual objects in deep learning results,and combining the results of different objects.Individual object semantic segmentation experiments are conducted by using the AeroScapes dataset,and their results are analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively.The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can achieve more promising object boundaries than the original deep learning method.This work also demonstrates the advantages of the proposed method in applications of point cloud semantic segmentation and image inpainting.

Effectiveness of Huachansu injection combined with chemotherapy for treatment of gastric cancer in China: a systematic review and Meta-analysis

OBJECTIVE:to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Huachansu(HCS)injection plus chemotherapy in the treatment of gastric cancer.METHODS:A thorough and systematic retrieval of randomized controlled trials(RCTs)concerning HCS injection for treating gastric cancer was conducted in several electronic databases from inception to May 10,2018.The quality of the RCTs was assessed by the Cochrane risk of bias tool.And the data about objective remission rate,performance status,adverse drug reactions(ADRs)and other outcomes were extracted and analyzed by Review Manager 5.3 and Stata 13.0 software.RESULTS:A total of 14 RCTs with 976 participants were involved in the current Meta-analysis.The results suggested that HCS injection combined with chemotherapy was associated with better effects than receiving conventional chemotherapy alone in respect of improving the objective response rate[RR=1.18,95%CI(1.03,1.37),Z=2.32,P=0.02],and performance status[RR=1.84,95%CI(1.43,2.36),Z=4.74,P<0.00001].In addition,HCS injection combined with chemotherapy could relieve pain for patients with gastric cancer.CONCLUSION:This Meta-analysis revealed that HCS injection plus chemotherapy might more effective than chemotherapy in treating gastric cancer.Nevertheless,more large-scale and rigorously designed RCTs should be performed to validate this finding.

According to the embryology of external auditory canal .（EAC）, Karmodyl classified the anomalies of the first cleft inio four categories, depending on the degree of the development of the EAC, which are aplasia, atresia, stenosis, and duplication. Traditionally, the term ＂first cleft anomaly＂ has been limited to duplication anomaly of the EAC in most of the literatures. In the duplication anomaly, the EAC is present and is usually well formed.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)has become the most common chronic liver disease worldwide.Reduced activity and slower metabolism in the elderly affect the balance of lipid metabolism in the liver leading to the accumulation of lipids.This affects the mitochondrial respiratory chain and the efficiency ofβ-oxidation and induces the overproduction of reactive oxygen species.In addition,the dynamic balance of the mitochondria is disrupted during the ageing process,which inhibits its phagocytic function and further aggravates liver injury,leading to a higher incidence of NAFLD in the elderly population.The present study reviewed the manifestations,role and mechanism of mitochondrial dysfunction in the progression of NAFLD in the elderly.Based on the understanding of mitochondrial dysfunction and abnormal lipid metabolism,this study discusses the treatment strategies and the potential therapeutic targets for NAFLD,including lipid accumulation,antioxidation,mitophagy and liver-protecting drugs.The purpose is to provide new ideas for the development of innovative drugs for the prevention and treatment of NAFLD.
