Hybrid Ni_(2)P/CoP Nanosheets as Efficient and Robust Electrocatalysts for Domestic Wastewater Splitting

The development of low-cost,robust and efficient non-noble metal electrocatalysts is still a pursuit for the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER).Herein,a self-standing electrocatalyst,Ni_(2)P/CoP nanosheet,was fabricated directly on three-dimensional Ni foams by two facile steps,which illustrated both high activity and stability for HER in different *** from the porous structures of nanosheets with large specific surface area and the hybrid Ni_(2)P/CoP,the as-prepared electrocatalyst presented remarkable HER with overpotentials of 65.2 and 87.8 mV to reach a current density of-10 mA cm^(-2)in neutral and alkaline media,*** function theory calculations revealed a lower activation energy of water dissociation and efficient HER steps of hybrid Ni_(2)P/CoP nanosheets compared with mono *** self-standing electrocatalyst maintained excellent chemical ***,the HER process in domestic wastewater was realized with more impressive performance by using Ni_(2)P/CoP nanosheets compared with commercial Pt/*** was continuously generated for 20 h in mildly alkaline dishwashing *** work provides a feasible way to fabricate non-noble metal and self-standing hybrid bimetallic phosphides for HER in neutral and alkaline media,showing great potential for efficient hydrogen production by re-utilizing wastewater resources.

In situ compression and X-ray computed tomography of flow battery electrodes

Redox flow batteries offer a potential solution to an increase in renewable energy generation on the grid by offering long-term, large-scale storage and regulation of power. However, they are currently un- derutilised due to cost and performance issues, many of which are linked to the microstructure of the porous carbon electrodes used. Here, for the first time, we offer a detailed study of the in situ effects of compression on a commercially available carbon felt electrode. Visualisation of electrode structure us- ing X-ray computed tomography shows the non-linear way that these materials compress and various metrics are used to elucidate the changes in porosity, pore size distribution and tortuosity factor under compressions from 0%-90%.

Unraveling the role of Ti3C2 MXene underlayer for enhanced photoelectrochemical water oxidation of hematite photoanodes

Hematite is regarded as a promising photoanode for photoelectrochemical(PEC) water ***,the charge recombination occurred at the interface of FTO/hematite strictly limits the PEC performance of ***,we reported a Ti3C2 MXene underlayer modified hematite(Ti-Fe2O3) photoanode via a simple drop-casting followed by hydrothermal and annealing *** to the bifunctional role of Ti3C2 MXene underlayer in improving the interfacial properties of FTO/hematite and providing Ti source for the construction of Fe2 TiO5/Fe2O3 heterostructure in hematite nanostructure,the bulk and interfacial charge transfer dynamics of hematite are significantly enhanced,and consequently enhancing the PEC *** with the pristine hematite,the as-prepared Ti-Fe2O3 photoanode shows an increased photocurrent density from 0.80 mA/cm^(2) to 1.30 mA/cm^(2) at 1.23 V ***,a further promoted PEC performance including a dramatically increased photocurrent density of 2.49 mA/cm^(2) at1.23 V *** and an obviously lowered onset potential is achieved for the Ti-Fe2O3 sample after the subsequent surface F-treatment and the loading of FeNiOOH *** results suggest that the introduction of Ti3C2 MXene underlayer is a facile but effective approach to improve the PEC water splitting activity of hematite.

A modelling study for the integration of a PEMFC microCHP in domestic building services design

Fuel cell based micro-combined heat and power( CHP) units used for domestic applications can provide significant cost and environmental benefits for end users and contribute to the UK 's 2050 emissions target by reducing primary energy consumption in dwellings. lately there has been increased interest in the development of systematic methods for the design of such systems and their smoother integration with domestic building services. Several models in the literature,whether they use a simulation or an optimisation approach,ignore the dwelling side of the system and optimise the efficiency or delivered power of the unit. However the design of the building services is linked to the choice of heating plant and its characteristics. Adding the dwelling's energy demand and temperature constraints in a model canproduce more general results that can optimise the whole system,not only the micro-CHP unit. The fuel cell has various heat streams that can be harvested to satisfy heat demand in a dwelling and the design can vary depending on the proportion of heat needed from each heat stream to serve the energy demand. A mixed integer non-linear programming model( M INlP) that can handle multiple heat sources and demands is presented in this *** methodology utilises a process systems engineering approach. The model can provide a design that integrates the temperature and water flowconstraints of a dwelling's heating system with the heat streams within the fuel cell processes while optimising total CO2 emissions. The model is demonstrated through different case studies that attempt to capture the variability of the housing stock. The predicted CO2 emissions reduction compared to a conventionally designed building vary from 27%to 30%and the optimum capacity of the fuel cell ranges between 1. 9 kW and3. 6 kW. This research represents a significant step towards an integrated fuel cell micro-CHP and dwelling design.

Quantile-based optimization under uncertainties for complex engineering structures using an active learning basis-adaptive PC-Kriging model

The Reliability-Based Design Optimization(RBDO)of complex engineering structures considering uncertainties has problems of being high-dimensional,highly nonlinear,and timeconsuming,which requires a significant amount of sampling simulation *** this paper,a basis-adaptive Polynomial Chaos(PC)-Kriging surrogate model is proposed,in order to relieve the computational burden and enhance the predictive accuracy of a *** active learning basis-adaptive PC-Kriging model is combined with a quantile-based RBDO ***,five engineering cases have been implemented,including a benchmark RBDO problem,three high-dimensional explicit problems,and a high-dimensional implicit *** with Support Vector Regression(SVR),Kriging,and polynomial chaos expansion models,results show that the proposed basis-adaptive PC-Kriging model is more accurate and efficient for RBDO problems of complex engineering structures.

Design strategies and insights of flexible infrared optoelectronic sensors

Infrared optoelectronic sensing is the core of many critical applications such as night vision,health and medication,military,space exploration,*** including mechanical flexibility as a new dimension enables novel features of adaptability and conformability,promising for developing next-generation optoelectronic sensory applications toward reduced size,weight,price,power consumption,and enhanced performance(SWaP^(3)).However,in this emerging research frontier,challenges persist in simultaneously achieving high infrared response and good mechanical deformability in devices and integrated ***,we perform a comprehensive review of the design strategies and insights of flexible infrared optoelectronic sensors,including the fundamentals of infrared photodetectors,selection of materials and device architectures,fabrication techniques and design strategies,and the discussion of architectural and functional integration towards applications in wearable optoelectronics and advanced image ***,this article offers insights into future directions to practically realize the ultra-high performance and smart sensors enabled by infrared-sensitive materials,covering challenges in materials development and device micro-/*** for scaling these techniques across fabrication,performance,and integration are presented,alongside perspectives on potential applications in medication and health,biomimetic vision,and neuromorphic sensory systems,etc.

Toward long-life Zn anode using highly polar electrolyte additives

Unstable Zn interface caused by rampant dendrite growth and parasitic side reactions always hinders the practical application of aqueous zinc metal batteries（AZMBs）,Herein,tyrosine（Tyr） with high molecular polarity was introduced into aqueous electrolyte to modulate the interfacial electrochemistry of Zn *** AZMBs,the positively charged side of Tyr can be well adsorbed on the surface of Zn anode to form a water-poor layer,and the exposed carboxylate side can be easily coordinated with Zn2+,favoring inducing uniform plating of Zn2+and inhibiting the occurrence of water-induced side *** in turn enable the achievement of highly stable Zn ***,the Zn anodes achieve outstanding cyclic stability(3000 h at 2 mA cm-2,2 mA h cm-2and 1300 h at 5 mA cm-2,5 mA h cm-2),high average Coulombic efficiency（99.4% over 3200 cycles）,and high depth of discharge（80% for 500 h）.Besides,the assembled Zn‖NaV3O8·1.5H2O full cells deliver remarkable capacity retention and ultra-long lifetime(61.8% over 6650 cycles at 5 A g-1) and enhanced rate capability(169 mA h g-1at 5 A g-1).The work may promote the design and deep understanding of electrolyte additives with high molecular polarity for high-performance AZMBs.

Ingenious construction of a magnetic-recyclable photo-Fenton catalyst ZnFe_(2)O_(4)@MIl-88A(Fe)and its adsorption-degradation activity toward levofloxacin

Monotonic pore size and particles inseparability of metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)caused serious effects on its light absorption ability and charge separation,restricting its application for antibiotic such as levofloxacin(lEV)degradation in *** this study,a magnetically detachable nano-photocatalyst(ZnFe_(2)O_(4)@MIl-88A(Fe))was synthesized using a simple two-step hydrothermal *** morphology and microstructure analyses showed that n-type ZnFe_(2)O_(4)catalyst particleswere efficiently assembled onto the surface of MIl-88A(Fe)*** activity studies indicated that the ZnFe_(2)O_(4)@MIl-88A(Fe)plus H_(2)O_(2)exhibiting a significantly boosted photo-Fenton activity toward lEV at visible light irradiation,compared to the pure ZnFe_(2)O_(4)and MIl-88A(Fe),the degradation efficiency accordingly reached up to nearly 82%and 25%within 60 *** excellent photocatalytic performance was ascribed to the synergistic effects of the heterogeneous structure of ZnFe_(2)O_(4)and MIl-88A(Fe),whereby the efficient separation of charge carriers in the catalytic system is mutually reinforced with the efficient reduction of Fe^(3+)and Fe^(2+).Meanwhile,the degradationmechanism and intermediates of lEV during the photo-Fenton reaction process were also studied in depth through free radical burst,electron paramagnetic resonance,and mass spectrometry analyses,***,the ZnFe_(2)O_(4)@MIl-88A(Fe)composite catalyst displayed significant stability and ease of separation,indicating potential for the photooxidative degradation of organic pollutants.

Increase in the variability of terrestrial carbon uptake in response to enhanced future ENSO modulation

El Niño-Southern Oscillation(ENSO)is a major driver of climate change in middle and low latitudes and thus strongly influences the terrestrial carbon cycle through land-air *** the ENSO modulation and carbon flux variability are projected to increase in the future,but their connection still needs further *** investigate the impact of future ENSO modulation on carbon flux variability,this study used 10 CMIP6 earth system models to analyze ENSO modulation and carbon flux variability in middle and low latitudes,and their relationship,under different scenarios simulated by CMIP6 *** results show a high consistency in the simulations,with both ENSO modulation and carbon flux variability showing an increasing trend in the *** higher the emissions scenario,especially SSP5-8.5 compared to SSP2-4.5,the greater the increase in *** flux variability in the middle and low latitudes under SSP2-4.5 increases by 30.9%compared to historical levels during 1951-2000,while under SSP5-8.5 it increases by 58.2%.Further analysis suggests that ENSO influences mid-and low-latitude carbon flux variability primarily through *** occurrence may potentially be attributed to the increased responsiveness of gross primary productivity towards regional temperature fluctuations,combined with the intensified influence of ENSO on land surface temperatures.

Cardiac rehabilitation,a comprehensive exercise-based lifestyle and medical management,is effective in decreasing morbidity and improving life quality in patients with coronary heart *** function,an irreplaceable indicator in coronary heart disease progression,is measured by various methods in traditional cardiac rehabilitation pathways,including medicinal treatment,aerobic training,and smoking ***,studies on the effect of some emerging cardiac rehabilitation programs on endothelial function are *** article briefly reviewed the endothelium-beneficial effects of different cardiac rehabilitation pathways,including exercise training,lifestyle modification and psychological intervention in patients with coronary heart disease,and related experimental models,and summarized both uncovered and potential cellular and molecular mechanisms of the beneficial roles of various cardiac rehabilitation pathways on endothelial *** exercise training and some lifestyle interventions,the enhanced bioavailability of nitric oxide,increased circulating endothelial progenitor cells(EPCs),and decreased oxidative stress are major contributors to preventing endothelial dysfunction in coronary heart ***,the preservation of endothelial-dependent hyperpolarizing factors and inflammatory suppression play *** the one hand,to develop more endothelium-protective rehabilitation methods in coronary heart disease,adequately designed and sized randomized multicenter clinical trials should be advanced using standardized cardiac rehabilitation programs and existing assessment *** the other hand,additional studies using suitable experimental models are warranted to elucidate the relationship between some new interventions and endothelial protection in both macro-and microvasculature.
