Accuracy comparison and improvement for state of health estimation of lithium-ion battery based on random partial recharges and feature engineering

State of health(SOH)estimation of e-mobilities operated in real and dynamic conditions is essential and challenging.Most of existing estimations are based on a fixed constant current charging and discharging aging profiles,which overlooked the fact that the charging and discharging profiles are random and not complete in real application.This work investigates the influence of feature engineering on the accuracy of different machine learning(ML)-based SOH estimations acting on different recharging sub-profiles where a realistic battery mission profile is considered.Fifteen features were extracted from the battery partial recharging profiles,considering different factors such as starting voltage values,charge amount,and charging sliding windows.Then,features were selected based on a feature selection pipeline consisting of filtering and supervised ML-based subset selection.Multiple linear regression(MLR),Gaussian process regression(GPR),and support vector regression(SVR)were applied to estimate SOH,and root mean square error(RMSE)was used to evaluate and compare the estimation performance.The results showed that the feature selection pipeline can improve SOH estimation accuracy by 55.05%,2.57%,and 2.82%for MLR,GPR and SVR respectively.It was demonstrated that the estimation based on partial charging profiles with lower starting voltage,large charge,and large sliding window size is more likely to achieve higher accuracy.This work hopes to give some insights into the supervised ML-based feature engineering acting on random partial recharges on SOH estimation performance and tries to fill the gap of effective SOH estimation between theoretical study and real dynamic application.

Constructing oxygen deficiency-rich V_(2)O_(3)@PEDOT cathode for high-performance aqueous zinc-ion batteries

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries(AZIBs)have attracted widespread attention due to the advantages of high safety and environmental friendliness.Although V_(2)O_(3) is a promising cathode,the strong electrostatic interaction between Zn^(2+) and V_(2)O_(3) crystal,and the sluggish reaction kinetics still limit their application in AZIBs.Herein,the oxygen defects rich V_(2)O_(3) with conducive poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)(PEDOT)shell(V_(2)O_(3)-Od@PEDOT)was fabricated for AZIBs by combining the sulfur-assisted thermal reduction and in-situ polymerization method.The introduced oxygen vacancies of V_(2)O_(3)–Od@PEDOT weaken the electrostatic interaction between Zn^(2+) and the host material,improving the interfacial electron transport,while the PEDOT coating enhances the structural stability and conductivity of V_(2)O_(3),thus accelerating the reaction kinetics.Based on the advantages,V_(2)O_(3)–Od@PEDOT electrode delivers a reversible capacity of 495 mAh·g^(−1) at 0.1 A·g^(−1),good rate capability(189 mAh·g^(−1)at 8.0 A·g^(−1)),and an impressive cycling stability with 90.1%capacity retention over 1000 cycles at 8.0 A·g^(−1).The strategy may provide a path for exploiting the other materials for high performance AZIBs.

Fiducial Approach for the Storage Reliability Assessment of Complex Repairable Systems

In recent years, there has been a growing focus on high-reliability products in industrial and military fields. Storage plays a crucial role in these products, and as a result, research on storage reliability has gained more attention. This paper specifically targets a class of products with complex structures that require long-term storage, regular testing, and maintenance. Firstly, an expression method for system availability is provided based on the reliability structure of the system and the maintenance situation of the constituent equipment in storage. Since the expression of system availability is typically complex and difficult to compute, and the storage life of the system cannot be represented as an explicit function of the reliability indicators of the constituent equipment, it is challenging to evaluate the availability and storage life of repairable systems. To address this, the paper proposes a comprehensive evaluation methodology for assessing the storage reliability of complex repairable systems based on fiducial inference. This approach is employed to derive point estimates and determine the lower fiducial limits for both system availability and storage life. Furthermore, simulation results demonstrate that this comprehensive evaluation method for storage reliability of complex repairable systems is not only convenient but also highly effective.

Investigation on the vortical structures by the Liutex method in turbulent channels at Re_(τ)=180 with scalloped and triangular riblet control

Riblets are a series of small protrusions formed along the flow direction,which have been extensively studied as a passive turbulent drag reduction technique.Experiments and numerical simulations have shown that well-designed riblets can significantly reduce drag in turbulent flows,making them highly promising and valuable for various applications.In this study,we focus on a scalloped riblet,which is designed by smoothly connecting two third-order polynomials,and thus the sharpness of the tip and the curvature of the valley can be well defined.We conduct direct numerical simulations of turbulent channel with smooth plate,scalloped riblet-mounted and triangular riblet-mounted walls.Width in wall units of W^(+)=20 and height-width ratio ofγ=0.5 are selected for both riblet cases.Compared with the smooth plate case,the scalloped riblet case achieves an 8.68%drag reduction,while the triangular riblet case achieves a 4.79%drag reduction.The obtained drag reduction rate of the triangular riblet is consistent with previous experiments and simulations,and the results indicate that the scalloped riblet is more effective in reducing drag and deserves further investigation.We compare turbulent statistics of the scalloped riblet case with those of the triangular riblet case.The mean velocity profiles of riblets are similar,but both the Reynolds shear stress and second-order statistics of velocity fluctuations and Liutex are significantly reduced in the scalloped riblets controlled turbulent channel,indicating that the scalloped riblet can more effectively suppress the spanwise and wall-normal turbulent intensity near the wall.We also compare the pre-multiplied spectra of streamwise velocity and streamwise Liutex component for the three cases to investigate the energy distribution and characteristics of Liutex distribution.The Liutex vortex identification method is also utilized to analyze the instantaneous flow field,which provides insights into the flow field and could be beneficial for the further optimization of riblet.

Modification of polyetheretherketone(PEEK)physical features to improve osteointegration

Polyetheretherketone(PEEK)has been widely applied in orthopedics because of its excellent mechanical properties,radiolucency,and biocompatibility.However,the bioinertness and poor osteointegration of PEEK have greatly limited its further application.Growing evidence proves that physical factors of implants,including their architecture,surface morphology,stiffness,and mechanical stimulation,matter as much as the composition of their surface chemistry.This review focuses on the multiple strategies for the physical modification of PEEK implants through adjusting their architecture,surface morphology,and stiffness.Many research findings show that transforming the architecture and incorporating reinforcing fillers into PEEK can affect both its mechanical strength and cellular responses.Modified PEEK surfaces at the macro scale and micro/nano scale have positive effects on cell-substrate interactions.More investigations are necessary to reach consensus on the optimal design of PEEK implants and to explore the efficiency of various functional implant surfaces.Soft-tissue integration has been ignored,though evidence shows that physical modifications also improve the adhesion of soft tissue.In the future,ideal PEEK implants should have a desirable topological structure with better surface hydrophilicity and optimum surface chemistry.

Young children with multidrug-resistant epilepsy and vagus nerve stimulation responding to perampanel: A case report

BACKGROUND Perampanel(PER),a third-generation antiepileptic drug,is a selective and noncompetitiveα-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid receptor antagonist,and has been approved for the treatment of adults and adolescents with focal epilepsy.However,there are only a few studies about the efficacy and tolerability of PER in young children with multidrug-resistant epilepsy.In this case,we aimed to share our clinical experience in this group.CASE SUMMARY A 4-year-old boy without perinatal asphyxia and familial history of epilepsy began to have ictal seizures from age 14 mo,with jerky movement of four limbs and head nodding.Abnormal multifocal discharge and background activity were recorded through electroencephalography,and no pathogenic mutation was found in the whole exome sequencing for the patient and his parents.He had received valproate,levetiracetam,topiramate,oxcarbazepine,clonazepam and lacosamide sequentially at different times,but he still had frequent seizures even after vagus nerve stimulation(VNS)implantation.He was diagnosed with idiopathic multidrug-resistant epilepsy.However,his seizure frequency was significantly reduced after PER administration in a dose-dependent manner,and better cognitive behavior was observed.In addition,the adverse reactions of anger and aggression also appeared.CONCLUSION PER is effective as add-on therapy for young children with multidrug-resistant epilepsy who have previously undergone VNS implantation.

Cognitive deficiency,parental relationship,and coping strategies are related with anxiety and depression among parents of children with epilepsy

Background:The diagnosis of epilepsy in a child often and understandably causes psychological adjustment difficulties in the parents.To help parents of children with epilepsy cope with stress,it is important to understand how parents cope with the sickness of their child.The objective of this study was to assess factors related to the state of anxiety and depression among parents of children with epilepsy.Methods:The present study was a cross-sectional study,and the data were collected through an anonymous,Internet-based survey platform between October 2018 and October 2019 from 250 participants aged 22-65 years.Participants were invited to fill questionnaires include socioeconomic questionnaire,anxiety,depression,and coping strategies scale.Result:Among the parents of children with epilepsy,48.8%(122/250)had depressive symptoms(Patient Health Questionnaire-9[PHQ-9]score>4)and 46.4%(116/250)had anxiety symptoms(7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder[GAD-7]score>5).Depression among parents of children with epilepsy was significantly associated with comorbidity(odds ratio[OR]=0.392,95%CI=0.182-0.846),a poor parental relationship(OR=0.283,95%CI=0.130-0.614),positive coping(OR=0.947,95%CI=0.903-0.992),and negative coping(OR=1.287,95%CI=1.179-1.405).Anxiety among parents of children with epilepsy was significantly associated with a poor parental relationship(OR=0.416,95%CI=0.207-0.835)and negative coping(OR=1.155,95%CI 1.087-1.228).Conclusions:The present study indicates the importance of couple support and providing effective coping to make parents of children with epilepsy more resilient in the presence of negative life events,especially for parents of children with comorbidity with cognitive deficiency.

Multilevel omics for the discovery of biomarkers in pediatric sepsis

Severe sepsis causes organ dysfunction and continues to be the leading reason for pediatric death worldwide.Early recognition of sepsis could substantially promote precision treatment and reduce the risk of pediatric death.The host cellular response to infection during sepsis between adults and pediatrics could be significantly different.A growing body of studies focused on finding markers in pediatric sepsis in recent years using multi-omics approaches.This narrative review summarized the progress in studying pediatric sepsis biomarkers from genome,transcript,protein,and metabolite levels according to the omics technique that has been applied for biomarker screening.It is most likely not a single biomarker could work for precision diagnosis of sepsis,but a panel of markers and probably a combination of markers detected at multi-levels.Importantly,we emphasize the importance of group distinction of infectious agents in sepsis patients for biomarker identification,because the host response to infection of bacteria,virus,or fungus could be substantially different and thus the results of biomarker screening.Further studies on the investigation of sepsis biomarkers that were caused by a specific group of infectious agents should be encouraged in the future,which will better improve the clinical execution of personalized medicine for pediatric sepsis.

Core and variable antimicrobial resistance genes in the gut microbiomes of Chinese and European pigs

Monitoring the prevalence of antimicrobial resistance genes(ARGs)is vital for addressing the global crisis of antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections.Despite its importance,the characterization of ARGs and microbiome structures,as well as the identification of indicators for routine ARG monitoring in pig farms,are still lacking,particularly concerning variations in antimicrobial exposure in different countries or regions.Here,metagenomics and random forest machine learning were used to elucidate the ARG profiles,microbiome structures,and ARG contamination indicators in pig manure under different antimicrobial pressures between China and Europe.Results showed that Chinese pigs exposed to high-level antimicrobials exhibited higher total and plasmid-mediated ARG abundances compared to those in European pigs(P<0.05).ANT(6)-Ib,APH(3')-IIIa,and tet(40)were identified as shared core ARGs between the two pig populations.Furthermore,the core ARGs identified in pig populations were correlated with those found in human populations within the same geographical regions.Lactobacillus and Prevotella were identified as the dominant genera in the core microbiomes of Chinese and European pigs,respectively.Forty ARG markers and 43 biomarkers were able to differentiate between the Chinese and European pig manure samples with accuracies of 100%and 98.7%,respectively.Indicators for assessing ARG contamination in Chinese and European pigs also achieved high accuracy(r=0.72-0.88).Escherichia flexneri in both Chinese and European pig populations carried between 21 and 37 ARGs.The results of this study emphasize the importance of global collaboration in reducing antimicrobial resistance risk and provide validated indicators for evaluating the risk of ARG contamination in pig farms.

The development of machine learning-based remaining useful life prediction for lithium-ion batteries

Lithium-ion batteries are the most widely used energy storage devices,for which the accurate prediction of the remaining useful life(RUL)is crucial to their reliable operation and accident prevention.This work thoroughly investigates the developmental trend of RUL prediction with machine learning(ML)algorithms based on the objective screening and statistics of related papers over the past decade to analyze the research core and find future improvement directions.The possibility of extending lithium-ion battery lifetime using RUL prediction results is also explored in this paper.The ten most used ML algorithms for RUL prediction are first identified in 380 relevant papers.Then the general flow of RUL prediction and an in-depth introduction to the four most used signal pre-processing techniques in RUL prediction are presented.The research core of common ML algorithms is given first time in a uniform format in chronological order.The algorithms are also compared from aspects of accuracy and characteristics comprehensively,and the novel and general improvement directions or opportunities including improvement in early prediction,local regeneration modeling,physical information fusion,generalized transfer learning,and hardware implementation are further outlooked.Finally,the methods of battery lifetime extension are summarized,and the feasibility of using RUL as an indicator for extending battery lifetime is outlooked.Battery lifetime can be extended by optimizing the charging profile serval times according to the accurate RUL prediction results online in the future.This paper aims to give inspiration to the future improvement of ML algorithms in battery RUL prediction and lifetime extension strategy.
