Introduction:Parkinson’s disease(PD)is the most common neurodegenerative movement disorder.The pathological hallmark is the progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons of the substantia nigra pars compacta,which is accompanied by widespread alterations in the structu re and function of distributed brain networks.Togethe r,these processes cause a variety of motor symptoms such as bradykinesia,rigidity,tremor,gait disorders,or difficulties in fine motor control(Bange et al.,2022).

Wind-induced vibration energy harvesting has a great potential for utilizing wind energy to supply power for low-powered devices.To improve the working performance of energy harvesters effectively,a suitable structural design is crucial.This paper proposes a dual-beam piezo-magneto-elastic wake-induced vibration energy harvesting system to enhance the functional performance of aeroelastic energy harvesters in environments with variable wind speeds.The system contains two piezoelectric beams coupled by magnets(forming upstream and downstream energy harvesters),and each beam is attached with a foam cylinder.A corresponding dynamic model is provided,and output characteristics are obtained at different wind speeds.Results and experimental verification indicate that both upstream and downstream energy harvesters can realize efficient energy harvesting.When the wind speed exceeds a certain critical value,the amplitudes of the system’s displacement and voltage are high.The wind speed threshold value is approximately 1.25 m/s.When the wind speed and magnet spacing are 10.2 m/s and 20 mm,respectively,the output power of the system reaches 4.9×10^(−4)W.Moreover,the wind speed threshold value of the proposed system can be adjusted by an equivalent nonlinear restoring force.

Objective Obesity is associated with kidney defects.Physical activity is a key element in the treatment of obesity.The aim of this study was to compare the effect of endurance and endurance-strength training on kidney function in abdominally obese women.Methods Forty-four abdominally obese women were randomized to endurance training or endurance-strength training,three times a week for 3 months.Before and after the intervention,kidney function was assessed by measuring blood creatinine,urine creatinine,and urine albumin levels,and the albumin-to-creatinine ratio and glomerular filtration rate（GFR） were calculated.Results Renal hyperperfusion was present in both groups before the study.Following both types of physical activity,similar modifications of the investigated parameters were observed,but with no significant between-group differences.Both courses of training led to a significant increase in blood creatinine and a subsequent decrease in the GFR.A significant increase in urine creatinine and album levels,though not exceeding the range for microalbuminuria,was not accompanied by any difference in the albumin-to-creatinine ratio after endurance-strength training alone.Conclusion Three months of either endurance or endurance-strength training has a favorable and comparable effect on renal function in abdominally obese women with renal hyperfiltration.

Britanin is a bioactive sesquiterpene lactone known for its potent anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties.It also exhibits significant anti-tumor activity,suppressing tumor growth in vitro and in vivo.The current body of research on Britanin includes thirty papers predominantly related to neoplasms,the majority of which are gastrointestinal tumors that have not been summarized before.To drive academic debate,the present paper reviews the available research on Britanin in gastrointestinal tumors.It also outlines novel research directions using data not directly concerned with the digestive system,but which could be adopted in future gastrointestinal research.Britanin was found to counteract liver,colorectal,pancreatic,and gastric tumors,by regulating proliferation,apoptosis,autophagy,immune response,migration,and angiogenesis.As confirmed in pancreatic,gastric,and liver cancer,its most commonly noted molecular effects include nuclear factor kappa B and B-cell lymphoma 2 downregulation,as well as Bcl-2-associated X protein upregulation.Moreover,it has been found to induce the Akt kinase and Forkhead box O1 axis,activate the AMP-activated protein kinase pathway,elevate interleukin-2 and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γlevels,reduce interleukin-10,as well as downregulate matrix metalloproteinase-9,Twist family bHLH transcription factor 1,and cyclooxygenase-2.It also inhibits Myc–HIF1αinteraction and programmed death ligand 1 transcription by interrupting the Ras/RAF/MEK/ERK pathway and mTOR/P70S6K/4EBP1 signaling.Future research should aim to unravel the link between Britanin and acetylcholinesterase,mast cells,osteolysis,and ischemia,as compelling data have been provided by studies outside the gastrointestinal context.Since the cytotoxicity of Britanin on noncancerous cells is significantly lower than that on tumor cells,while still being effective against the latter,further in-depth studies with the use of animal models are merited.The compound exhibits pleiotropic biological activity and offers

Ensuring a sufficient oxygen supply is pivotal for the success of bioprinting applications since it fosters tissue integration and natural regeneration.Variation in oxygen concentration among diverse tissues necessitates the precise recreation of tissue-specific oxygen levels in imprinted constructs to support the survival of targeted cells.Although oxygen-releasing biomaterials,such as oxygen-generating microparticles(OMPs),have shown promise for enhancing the oxygen supply of microenvironments in injured tissues,whether this approach is scalable for large tissues and whether tissue-specific bioinks with varying OMP concentrations remain printable remain unknown.This study addresses this critical gap by introducing an innovative class of engineered oxygenated bioinks that combine colloidal-based microgels with OMPs.We report that incorporating nanosized calcium peroxide(nCaO_(2))and manganese oxide nanosheets(nMnO_(2))into hydrophobic polymeric microparticles enables precise modulation of oxygen release while controlling hydrogen peroxide release.Moreover,the fabrication of oxygenating and cytocompatible colloidal gels is achieved using an aqueous two-phase system.This study thoroughly evaluates the fundamental characteristics of the resulting bioink,including its rheological behaviors,printability,shape fidelity,mechanical properties,and oxygen release properties.Moreover,this study demonstrates the macroscopic scalability and cytocompatibility of printed constructs produced via cell-laden oxygenating colloidal bioinks.By showcasing the effectiveness of extrusion-based bioprinting,this study underscores how it can be used to fabricate biomimetic tissues,indicating its potential for new applications.The findings presented here advance the bioprinting field by achieving scalability with both high cell viability and the possibility of mimicking specifically oxygenated tissues.This work thereby offers a promising avenue for the development of functional tissues with enhanced physiological relevance.

In accordance with the World Health Organization data,cancer remains at the forefront of fatal diseases.An upward trend in cancer incidence and mortality has been observed globally,emphasizing that efforts in developing detection and treatment methods should continue.The diagnostic path typically begins with learning the medical history of a patient;this is followed by basic blood tests and imaging tests to indicate where cancer may be located to schedule a needle biopsy.Prompt initiation of diagnosis is crucial since delayed cancer detection entails higher costs of treatment and hospitalization.Thus,there is a need for novel cancer detection methods such as liquid biopsy,elastography,synthetic biosensors,fluorescence imaging,and reflectance confocal microscopy.Conventional therapeutic methods,although still common in clinical practice,pose many limitations and are unsatisfactory.Nowadays,there is a dynamic advancement of clinical research and the development of more precise and effective methods such as oncolytic virotherapy,exosome-based therapy,nanotechnology,dendritic cells,chimeric antigen receptors,immune checkpoint inhibitors,natural product-based therapy,tumor-treating fields,and photodynamic therapy.The present paper compares available data on conventional and modern methods of cancer detection and therapy to facilitate an understanding of this rapidly advancing field and its future directions.As evidenced,modern methods are not without drawbacks;there is still a need to develop new detection strategies and therapeutic approaches to improve sensitivity,specificity,safety,and efficacy.Nevertheless,an appropriate route has been taken,as confirmed by the approval of some modern methods by the Food and Drug Administration.

The aim of this study was to establish the source and provenance of sediments deposited in a large floodplain sink during extreme floods in the Lockyer Creek catchment, Australia, in 2011 and 2013. We place the sediment source patterns in context of the longer-term record to determine whether coarsegrained sediment sources(i.e., very fine sand to very coarse sand) and the spatio-temporal pattern of(dis)connectivity have changed over time. We do this by matching the geochemical properties and age structure of a sediment profile located in a downstream floodplain sink to the elemental composition of source sediments. One hundred and fifty-seven sediment samples from 20 sites across the catchment are analysed using X-ray fluorescence(XRF) spectrometry to compare the elemental ratio composition of the downstream floodplain sink to its source materials. We use Optically Stimulated Luminescence(OSL)dating to determine the age structure of the sediments in the floodplain sink. The northern tributaries and parts of the Lockyer River trunk stream are the primary sources of coarse sediment. These areas are connected(coupled) to the lower trunk stream and floodplain sediment sink. Southern tributaries are largely disconnected(decoupled) and supply little sediment to the floodplain sediment sink. This pattern of sediment source contribution has remained similar over the last 6.8 ka at least. Sediment sources as observed in the 2011 flood have predominated over the mid-late Holocene whilst those in the 2013 flood are rare.

Investigations on influence of rifle automatics system action on values of energetic efficiency coefficient of muzzle brakes

The objective of the paper was to compare values of the muzzle brake efficiency coefficient for a rifle with active or inactive automatics systems.Special laboratory stand designed for investigating the recoil process was used.The motion of the rifle was detected by the use of the laser interferometer and the optical camera.The recoil velocity time courses were determined by smoothing and differentiation of experimental position records.The results of the experiments indicated that in the case of an active automatics system two values of the recoil velocity can be used for calculation of the energetic efficiency coefficient:the maximum recoil velocity and the final recoil velocity at the end of the automatics action cycle.The values of the coefficient,calculated using these two values of the recoil velocity,distinctly differ.However,it was shown that their values indicate the same relation between the efficiency of various muzzle brakes.The value of the efficiency coefficient,determined on the basis of the final recoil velocity value,is practically the same as that determined on the basis of the final recoil velocity value for the rifle with an inactive automatics system.

In this study,Differential Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry(DInSAR)of artificial Corner Reflectors(CRs)were validated in the area of fast and nonlinear deformation gradient caused by active coal longwall exploitation.Three Sentinel-1 datasets were processed using conventional DInSAR,Persistent Scatterer Interferometry(PSI),and Small BAseline Subset methods implemented in ENVI SARscape™.For evaluation,leveling and Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS)measurements were used.Considering the challenge of snow cover,the removal of all winter images was not a successful strategy due to the long temporal baseline and strong movement,which cause phase unwrapping problems and underestimate the real deformation.The results indicate that only conventional DInSAR and SBAS with low network redundancy allow us to capture maximal deformation gradient and the root mean square error calculated between the CRs and the ground truth is on the level of 2–3 cm for the vertical and easting deformation component,respectively.For the small deformation gradient represented by the permanent GNSS station(4 cm/year),all SBAS techniques appeared to be more accurate than DInSAR,which corresponds to higher redundancy and better removal of the atmospheric signal.In contrast,DInSAR results allowed to capture information about two subsidence basins,which was not possible with SBAS and PSI approaches.

Purpose:Trauma centres have been proven to provide better outcomes in developed countries for overall trauma,but there is limited literature on the systematic factors that describe any discrepancies in outcomes for trauma laparotomies in these centres.This study was conducted to examine and interrogate the effect of systematic factors on patients undergoing a trauma laparotomy in a developed country,intending to identify potential discrepancies in the outcome.Methods:This was a retrospective study of all laparotomies performed for trauma at a level 1 trauma centre in New Zealand.All adult patients who had undergone an index laparotomy for trauma between February 2012 and November 2020 were identified and laparotomies for both blunt and penetrating trauma were included.Repeat laparotomies and trauma laparotomies in children were excluded.The primary clinical outcomes reviewed included morbidity,length of hospital stay,and mortality.All statistical analysis was performed using R v.4.0.3.Results:During the 9-year study period,204 trauma laparotomies were performed at Waikato hospital.The majority(83.3%)were performed during office hours(170/204),and the remaining 16.7%were performed after hours(34/204).And 61.3%were performed on a weekday(125/204),whilst 38.7%were performed on the weekend/public holiday(79/204).Most of the parameters in office hours and after hours groups had no statistically significant difference,except lactate(p=0.026).Most of the variables in weekday and weekend groups had no statistically significant difference,except pH,lactate,length of stay,and gastrointestinal complications(p=0.012,p<0.001,p=0.003,p=0.020,respectively).Conclusion:The current trauma system at Waikato hospital is capable of delivering care for trauma laparotomy patients with the same outcome regardless of working hours or after hours,weekday or weekend.This confirms the importance of a robust trauma system capable of responding to the sudden demands placed on it.
