c-Abl has been implicated in many cellular processes including differentiation, division, adhesion, death, and stress response. c-Abl is a latent tyrosine kinase that becomes activated in response to numerous extra- and intra-cellular stimuli. Here we briefly review the current knowledge about c-Abl involvement in the DNA-damage stress response and its implication on cell physiology.

Climate and physics are closely related. The governing equa- tions for both the atmosphere and ocean are the Navier-Stokes equations, which describe and quantify the physics of fluids. However, the atmosphere and ocean are very complex due to the interaction of many processes, not necessarily physi- cal, and due to the need to model processes that are smaller than the grid resolution. In spite of this complexity, physi- cists have successfully addressed a wide swath of it using ad- vanced statistical physics methods and techniques. Climate science has been benefited from the physics discipline and vice versa where the ＂chaos＂ theory is an excellent example for the interdisciplinary approach as it was basically discov- ered by Lorenz [ 1 ] through his simple model of the atmos- phere.

Background: Asymmetry in the wild is a controversial, and to date, unresolved *** asymmetry(FA) is the developmental instability(intra-individual variation) while, directional asymmetry(DA) expresses the asymmetry of the population ***: We analysed 63 Great Grey Shrike(Lanius excubitor) skins at the Naturalis Biodiversity Center, Leiden, the *** black markings on the tails were digitized in order to evaluate the symmetry of the two sides of each *** helped understand if nutritional condition affected ***: ANOVA revealed no significant differences in size of the tail between sexes(F = 1.67, p > 0.05).However, there was significant difference in the shape of the black area in feathers between the sexes(F = 2.14, p < 0.05), and males had more elongated and slender black ***, DA was observed only in males, but FA was noted in both *** correlation showed no significant association between FA score and tail features in both the ***, in females, we observed a negative significant correlation between the number of fault and growth *** shape of the black area in the tail displayed no statistically significant association with the tail features in both sexes although growth bars influenced tail shape more than the number of fault ***: We concluded that the characteristics discovered by us need to also be checked in the field and if they can be used to sex ***, chromatic manipulative studies are require to verify if DA influences sexual selection in the Great Grey Shrike.

Background: Sympatric species adapt to, and temporally or geographically segregate access to similar limiting ***: We compared nesting habitat and diet affinities of six raptor species in central India between the years ***: A large composition of reptiles in the diet was characteristic for Circaetus gallicus, Spilornis cheela and Elanus caeruleus, while Aquila fasciata, Falco chicquera and Nisaetus cirrhatus show a higher proportion of birds. Species with greatest similarity of diet were C. gallicus and S. cheela. Considering the environmental characterization of areas where raptors built the nest, some species were ecologically closer than others. N. cirrhatus and S. cheela were related to the presence of water bodies, dry deciduous forest and evergreen forests, while E. caeruleus and C. gallicus preferred more open habitats. A. fasciata bred either on cliffs or trees, F. chicquera on trees or mobile towers, and the other four species built their nests exclusively in ***: We conclude that although there was overlap in diet and nesting ecology for a number of species, the geographical separation likely limits competition for resources.

hile being instrumental in the treatment of leukemic relapse after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, the impact of donor lymphocyte infusion (DLI) and its effectiveness remain debatable. Consequently it is widely accepted that more efforts are needed in order to make DLI more effective. This communication thus deals with the generation of specific CTLs in the clinical setting of HLA matched hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, to be used as an improved DLI treatment for post-transplantation relapsed leukemias. We assessed the potential of fused dendritic cells from donor origin, with leukemic cells from the HLA matched recipient for the generation of donor anti-tumor CTLs. Leukemic cells and donor dendritic cells were fused using polyethylene glycol (PEG). The hybrids were analyzed for double phenotype of both DC and tumor, and used for the education and generation of cytotoxic donor lymphocytes. Results demonstrate that efficient and specific CTLs can be generated and used in vitro for the elimination of the recipient tumor cells. These results form the basis for the establishment of a novel methodology aimed at generating active or passive anti-leukemic vaccine in relapsed patients.

The current practice of myocardial revascularization for acute myocardial infarction (MI) is primary percutaneous intervention (PCI). Surgical revascularization (“bypass”) is reserved for patients unsuitable for PCI. The purpose of this report is to describe the long-term outcome of acute MI patients who underwent left-sided arterial revascularization (left anterior descending and circumflex arteries) before PCI was adopted as the preferred treatment for this subset of patients. Between 1996 and 2002, 434 consecutive patients in our center underwent myocardial revascularization for recent MI using the composite T-graft technique (381 bilateral internal thoracic arteries and 53 single internal thoracic artery and radial arteries). Two-hundred and seventy-six patients were operated on within seven days of an acute MI (Group A) and the remaining 158 patients were operated on after the 7th day since an acute MI (Group B). Group A had significantly increased operative mortality (6.5% vs 1.3% for Group B, P = 0.012). Surgery performed within the first week of an acute MI was also found to be a significant predictor of early mortality in multivariate logistic regression analysis (O.R. 10.31;95% C.I. 1.32-83.30, P = 0.026). The mean follow-up was 10.6 ± 5.2 years. The Kaplan Meier 10-year survival of the two groups, however, was similar (65.6 ± 2.9 Group A vs 64.6 ± 3.8 Group B, P = 0.953), and assignment to Group A was not an independent predictor of decreased survival (P = 0.395, Cox model). When using arterial grafts for myocardial revascularization, the long-term outcome of patients operated on during the first 7 days of acute MI is not worse than that of patients operated on after more than 7 days, despite their increased operative mortality.
