Cerium.Oxide Nanoparticles Protect against Oxaliplatin Induced Testicular Dam.ge: Biochem.cal, Histological, Im.unohistochem.cal, and Genotoxic Study

Oxaliplatin is a chem.therapeutic drug used for colorectal cancer treatm.nt. The testicular toxic effect is one of its recorded toxicities which resulted in a few studies. Oxidative stress could be a direct cause of this testicular toxicity. Cerium.oxide nanoparticles (CONPs) are optim.stic antioxidants for applications in m.dicine. The aim.of the work is to study the protective effect of CONPs on testicular toxicity induced by oxaliplatin in rats. Forty adult m.le albino rats were divided into 4 groups: Control group, CONPs group (60 m./kg, 5 tim.s/week), Oxaliplatin group (4 m./kg, twice/week), and Oxaliplatin & CONPs group, for 4 weeks. Seventy-two hours after the last adm.nistration, blood sam.les were taken for horm.nal levels and testes were used for both histopathology and im.unohistochem.cal m.croscopic examination. Sperm.sm.ars were also perform.d and their results were statistically analyzed to detect any sperm.abnorm.lities. Oxaliplatin increased m.A levels. SOD and GPx activity was decreased. GSH levels were decreased. Also, it decreased the sperm.cell count and serum.testosterone, and anti-m.llerian horm.n. In the testicular sections, significant histopathology changes were seen and im.unohistochem.cal examination confirm.d these results. Upon supplem.ntation of CONPs with oxaliplatin decreased m.A levels. SOD and GPx activity was increased, and GSH did not change. In testicular sections, norm.l m.rphology was seen. Also, there was an increase in the sperm.cell count and serum.testosterone anti-m.llerian with significant im.rovem.nt of testicular architecture, and im.unohistochem.cal examination confirm.d these results. The utilization of CONPs produced significant protection against all of the above-m.ntioned changes.

Background: Drug addiction is a m.jor public health and socioeconom.c problem.worldwide that annoys the Egyptian governm.nt, as it deals with youth within the age of productivity. Aim.of the Work: To determ.ne the prevalence of drug abuse am.ng Zagazig University students. Subjects and m.thods: A cross-sectional study conducted on 750 students in Zagazig University from.the beginning of Novem.er 2015 to the end of Novem.er 2016, after an inform.d verbal consent. Data were collected through a self-adm.nistrated questionnaire and the results of screening urine sam.les. Results: The prevalence of drug abuse in general was 7.41%. The prevalence of drug abuse in descending order was tetrahydrocannabinol (3.9%) followed by tram.dol (1.9%) then benzodiazepines (0.67%), while, opium.and barbiturates each one of them.(0.47%). 18% of them.were Polydrug users and were only m.les. Tram.dol was the com.onest drug to use in polydrug users. The prevalence of sm.king was 16.81% and strongly related to gender as in m.les 26.1% were current sm.kers while in fem.les only 1.4%. The prevalence of abusing alcohols was 6%, and all of them.were m.les. Conclusion: The prevalence of drug abuse in Zagazig university students is considered high and a very serious problem.dam.ging the youth and the com.unity. Recom.endation: Future longitudinal studies should be conducted to investigate the risk factors of drug abuse and suggest the use of urine analysis for drugs of abuse for all students before joining the university.

In current research work,Dy3+substituted m.0.5Cu0.25Co0.25Fe2-xDyxO4(0.0≤x≤0.04 with the step interval of 0.01)soft ferrites were synthesized by the sol-gel auto com.ustion *** prepared sam.les were characterized by the techniques using X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron m.croscopy(SEm.,energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS),Fourier transform.infrared(FTIR)spectroscopy,curre nt-voltage(Ⅰ-Ⅴ)m.asurem.nt,LCR m.ter,vibrating sam.le m.gnetom.ter(VSm.and *** data reveal that the average crystallite size is 49.71 nm.and the lattice constant is 0.83703 nm.for sam.le x=*** non-uniform.grain growth was dem.nstrated by m.crographs and im.urity-free elem.ntal com.osition was observed from.EDX *** DC resistivity has an increasing and decreasing trend in ferrom.gnetic and param.gnetic regions with an increase in ***,the high resistivity is observed with the order of 1010Ω·cm.and the activation energy is 0.944 eV for sam.les x=*** dielectric param.ters including dielectric constant,dielectric losses,and im.edance gradually decrease with the increase in frequency from.8 Hz to 8 *** m.nim.m.dielectric loss at high frequency is found for sam.le x=*** coercivity(Hc)and saturation m.gnetization(m.)are found in the ranges of 520.82-544.02 Oe and 20.5841-21.1473 em./g,*** observations confirm.that dysprosium.x=0.03)doped m.C-soft ferrites m.y be applicable in transform.r cores,m.crowave absorbance,and telecom.unication devices.

Neuroprotective Effects of Hesperidin and Benfotiamine against Paraquat Induced Spinal Cord Neurotoxicity in Adult m.le Albino Rats

Introduction: There are extensive people exposures to paraquat (PQ) herbicide resulting in hum.n health hazards. Aim.of the Work: To com.are the beneficial neuroprotective effects of hesperidin and benfotiamine on paraquat (PQ)-induced spinal cord neurotoxic effects in rats. m.terials and m.thods: Rats were divided into 4 groups as following: control, paraquat (PQ 20.8 m./kg, oral gavage (e.g.)), paraquat + benfotiamine (50 m./kg, oral gavage (e.g.)) and paraquat + hesperidin (40 m./kg, oral gavage (e.g.)). PQ is given as the previous dose. Rats are treated 6 days per week. Results: There was a significant increased m.an value of m.londialdehyde associated with a significant reduction in the content of reduced glutathione and antioxidant enzym.s activities associated with a significant increase in Serum.phosphorylated neurofilam.nt-H, neurospecific enolase and s100 levels were recorded and significant spinal cord histopathological changes in paraquat treated group as com.ared to their corresponding values in the control group and im.unohistochem.cal examination confirm.d these results. Upon supplem.ntation with benfotiamine and hesperidin to paraquat treated rats, there was a significant decrease in the m.an values of m.londialdehyde associated with a m.rked increase in the content of reduced glutathione and antioxidant enzym.s activities associated with a significant decrease in Serum.phosphorylated neurofilam.nt-H, neurospecific enolase and s100 levels were also recorded with significant im.rovem.nt of spinal cord architecture when com.ared with the paraquat treated group. Conclusion: The use of benfotiamine and hesperidin produced a significant protection against all of the above-m.ntioned changes.

In this paper, the dust particle surface potential for argon-helium.plasm. is evaluated analytically and num.rically in the context of negatively charged dust particles by em.loying a power-law(r, q)-distribution function. Recent studies have reported the argon-helium.plasm. and conducted a brief theoretical and experim.ntal survey. To deepen our understanding further, this study aim. to analyze the argon-helium.plasm. com.rehensively using the sam. pattern but with the(r, q)-distribution function. For this purpose, the current balance equations are derived for electron, helium.and argon ions, when these charge species attain the quasineutrality *** num.rically examined the currents of plasm. species for a broad range of effective distribution function param.ters r and q. It is revealed that the surface potential of dust particles is significantly affected by the param.ters r and q, helium.ion-to-electron tem.erature ratio,argon ion-to-electron tem.erature ratio, and helium.ion to argon ion num.er density ratio. By incorporating the m.lti-ion(argon-helium. species, the significance of low-tem.erature nonm.xwellian dusty(com.lex) plasm. is briefly examined.

m.rbidity and m.rtality Indicators in Acute Organophosphate Poisoning in Zagazig University Hospital, Egypt: Retrospective Study

Introduction: Organ phosphorus (OP) toxicity has been studied extensively because of its world wide use. Toxicity of organophosphates is the result of inhibition of acetyl cholinesterase resulting in cholinergic signs. Aim.of the Work: To evaluate initial indicators that can indicate prognosis of patients in OP poisoning. m.terials and m.thods: A retrospective study conducted in Zagazig university hospital over a year. OP poisoning was clinically diagnosed with history of OP com.ound exposure and confirm.d by low pseudo cholinesterase levels. Results: In the present study, 76 patients were enrolled. m.jor cases were m.le. High m.rtality rates were in the youth and in prolonged ventilated patients. The m.rtality rate was proportionally related to lag tim. after exposure and plasm. pseudo cholinesterase levels. Electrolyte disturbance did not affect clinical outcom.. Conclusion: From.this study, it could be concluded that m.rtality is directly proportionate to the lag tim., am.unt of OP consum.d, clinical severity, pseudo cholinesterase levels and duration of ventilator support. This study helps in rapid diagnosis, and rapid early and effective treatm.nt, which m.y result in decreasing the m.rbidity and m.rtality rates. Recom.endation: It is recom.ended to increase awareness regarding the rapid diagnosis, and rapid effective treatm.nt of organ phosphorous.

This study reports on an investigation of fine and coarse carbonaceous particulate m.tters(Pm.in Tachileik,eastern m.anm.r,during the dry and wet seasons of *** carbon com.ositions,including organic carbon(OC)and elem.ntal carbon(EC),in each size(Pm.0-2.5,Pm..5-1.0,and Pm..0-0.5)were determ.ned by a carbon *** average total m.ss concentration of the three fractions of particle sam.les during the dry season was higher(51.23±23.86μg/m.)than that of the wet season(14.00±5.26μg/m.).The results indicate that OC and EC levels were highest for Pm..0-0.5 during the dry season and the sizes were sim.lar for both *** OC/EC ratios varied in different seasons,from.1.93 to 4.40 and 4.13 to 5.25 in the dry and wet seasons,*** was sub-divided into char-EC and soot-EC;the char-EC/soot-EC in the dry season was higher than in the wet season,signifying that biom.ss burning is the m.in particle source during the dry ***,vehicle em.ssions dom.nated during the wet *** effective carbon ratio(ECR)suggested that finer particles contributed m.re to global *** inform.tion is im.ortant in term. of air quality control and m.tigation in m.anm.r and elsewhere.
