The structural,electronic,and magnetic properties of the Nd-doped Rare earth aluminate,La1-xNdxAlO3（x = 0%to 100%） alloys are studied using the full potential linearized augmented plane wave（FP-LAPW） method within the density functional *** effects of the Nd substitution in La AlO3 are studied using the supercell *** computed electronic structure with the modified Becke–Johnson（m BJ） potential based approximation indicates that the La1-xNdxAlO3 alloys may possess half-metallic（HM） behaviors when doped with Nd of a finite density of states at the Fermi level（EF）.The direct and indirect band gaps are studied each as a function of x which is the concentration of Nddoped La *** calculated magnetic moments in the La1-xNdxAlO3 alloys are found to arise mainly from the Nd-4f state.A probable half-metallic nature is suggested for each of these systems with supportive integral magnetic moments and highly spin-polarized electronic structures in these doped systems at *** observed decrease of the band gap with the increase in the concentration of Nd doping in La AlO3 is a suitable technique for harnessing useful spintronic and magnetic devices.

Multidrug Drug Resistance of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella Isolated from Iraqi Patients and Microbiota

Introduction: Escherichia coli and Klebsiella are Gram-negative bacilli of Enterobacteriaceae and are components of the colonic microbiota of animals and humans. The virulent strains cause gastroenteritis and urinary tract infections (UTI), and the incidence of the infections increases due to the increase of multidrug-resistant strains. The aim of this study is to determine the antibiotics resistance profile of E. coli and Klebsiella. Methodology: A total of 100 isolates of E. coli and Klebsiella were isolated from three sources, healthy stools and patient stools with gastroenteritis and urine subjects with UTI, during the period from November 2021 to January 2022. An antimicrobial susceptibility test was conducted with 14 antibiotics using the disc-Kirby-Bauer’s diffusion method. Results: Both E. coli and Klebsiella had variable abilities to resist the studied antimicrobial drugs, including 14 antibiotics belonging to nine different classes that have different patterns or mechanisms in stopping the growth or killing of microorganisms. All bacterial isolates revealed highly significant antimicrobial resistance almost for all antibiotics except carbapenems. About 72% of total isolates were multidrug-resistant (MDR), because they appeared resistant to at least three classes of antibiotics. Only two E. coli isolates out of 24 isolates (8.3%) were recovered from healthy stool samples and 6.25% of E. coli isolates (2 isolates out of 32) which were obtained from urine samples were sensitive to all antibiotics. The highest rates of antibiotic resistance were observed in E. coli than in Klebsiella. Both species had resistance to Amoxicillin-clavulanate (70.58%), Cefotaxime (58.96%), and Ceftazidime (57.81%). While the lowest frequency was meropenem (4.86%), and all strains were sensitive to imipenem (100%). Balancing D2D Communication Relayed Traffic Offloading in Multi-Tier HetNets

In Heterogeneous Networks (HetNets), Integrating Device-to-Device communication (D2D) techniques presents as a promising solution for improving system performance by offloading traffic from heavily loaded macro cell (MC) to small cells (SCs). For instance, D2D can be used to offload traffic from heavily-loaded cells to light-loaded small cells. However, offloading new users may result in an unfair load distribution among small cells and consequently may affect the quality of service of some users. To achieve better performance and reduce blocking probability load balancing among small cells should be considered when we offload traffic from macro to small cells. In this paper, we consider a centralized offloaded relay selection scheme, in which a cellular provider can decide whether users can assist each other to relay their traffic to small cells. We propose a joint user-relay selection with dynamic load balancing scheme based on D2D communications using the Kuhn-Munkres (K-M) method. The offloading process considers the load from MC to SCs and among SCs. Compared to previous works, our simulation results show that the proposed scheme increases the number of admitted users in the system, and achieves a higher load balancing fairness index among small cells. Also, our scheme achieves a higher rate fairness index among users by adjusting the signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) threshold.

Gastric Cancer in Bahrain: A Retrospective Study of Histologically Confirmed Tumours between 2001 and 2007 from the Two Main Bahraini Referral Hospitals

Objective: Few data are available describing the epidemiology and pathology of stomach cancer in Bahrain. Methods: A retrospective study examining all histologically confirmed cases of gastric cancer at the two main referral hospitals in Bahrain during the period 2001-2007. Results: 116 cases of gastric cancer were histologically confirmed in this seven-year period. There were 94 cases (81%) of adenocarcinoma, 10 (8.6%) lymphoma, 7 (6.0%) gastrointestinal stromal tumour, and 5 (4.3%) neuroendocrine tumour. Of the 94 patients with adenocarcinoma 65 (69.1%) were male (p < 0.01). 24 out of 43 intestinal type adenocarcinomas were positive for intestinal metaplasia (p < 0.001). Between 2004 and 2006 when total annual numbers of gastric cancers overall and gastric adenocarcinoma decreased the total numbers of lymphoma increased. Conclusions: The most common type of gastric cancer in Bahrain is adenocarcinoma. There was a reduction in gastric cancers overall and adenocarcinoma during the middle two years of the study, and possible explanations for this were suggested. An association between intestinal metaplasia and intestinal subtype gastric adenocarcinoma was confirmed. The non-carcinoma gastric tumours in Bahrain comprise a small proportion of all gastric tumours and include lymphoma, neuroendocrine tumours and gastrointestinal stromal tumours.

Predictors of anti-SARS-CoV-2 seropositivity:An Egyptian population-based study

Background:Population-based studies on the determinants of COVID-19 seroprevalence constitute a cornerstone in guiding appropriate preventive *** studies are scarce in Egypt,thus we conducted this study to explore risk factors for SARS-CoV-2 ***:This survey included 2919 participants from 10 Egyptian *** were tested for SARS-CoV-2 spike(S)and nucleocapsid(N)*** and multivariate analyses were performed to identify associated factors and predictors of seropositivity regarding sociodemographic factors,clinical data,and personal practices of participants.A subgroup analysis was performed to investigate the occupational risks of ***:Seropositivity was recorded in 1564 participants(53.6%).Independent predictors of seropositivity in-cluded non-smokers(aOR=1.817;95%CI:1.407-2.346,p=0.000),having blood group A(aOR=1.231;95%CI:1.016-1.493,p=0.034),a history of COVID-19 infection(aOR=2.997;95%CI:2.176-4.127,p=0.000),COVID-19 vaccination(aOR=4.349;95%CI:2.798-6.759,p=0.000),higher crowding index(aOR=1.229;95%CI:1.041-1.451,p=0.015),anosmia and/or ageusia(aOR=3.453;95%CI:2.661-4.481,p=0.000)and history of fever(aOR=1.269;95%CI:1.033-1.560,p=0.023).Healthcare worker and Obesity/overweight were additional significant predictors of seropositivity among the working participants(aOR=1.760;95%CI:1.301-2.381,p=0.000 and aOR=1.384;95%CI:1.059-1.808,p=0.019,respectively).Additional factors showing association with seropositivity in the univariate analysis were:female gender,age group(15-39 years),higher educational level(preparatory and above),lack of environmental disinfection and having roommates at the *** was a positive correlation between the titers of both *** was weakly corre-lated with anti-S titer,while anti-N was significantly correlated with the number of protective measures applied by the *** antibodies were significantly correlated with adult BMI,while both we

Effect of Blast Furnace Sludge (BFS) Characteristics on Suitable Recycling Process Determining

The present study aims to give a detailed characterization of blast furnace sludge (BFS) by using different techniques, in order to determine the most effective recycling method to recover valuable metals from this waste. BFS is composed mainly of hematite, as its iron-bearing phase, and carbon, in addition to fractions of silicate and carbonate materials. The studied BFS shows relatively high contents of iron (Fe) (390 ***-1), and carbon (C) (290 ***-1), due to abundance of hematite and coke, while the concentration of zinc (Zn) (2.5 ***-1) is low. The XRD analyses indicated that, hematite is more concentrated in the fine fraction (<20 μm), while the coarser fraction (90 - 250 μm) is dominated by calcite, quartz and X-ray amorphous coke. SEM-EDX analyses confirmed that particles rich in iron and zinc were detected in the fine fraction (<20 μm) of the sludge. Due to high Fe and C content in BFS, it can be utilized as self-reducing material and briquetting represent a potential method for recycling of blast furnace sludge.

Molecular characterization of Cysticercus tenuicollis of slaughtered livestock in Upper Egypt governorates

Objective: To present the molecular characterization of Cysticercus tenuicollis(C. tenuicollis) of Taenia hydatigena(T. hydatigena) from livestock isolates in Egypt, and to introduce a detailed image of C. tenuicollis infection in ruminant animals in Upper ***: The prevalence rates of C. tenuicollis infections among the slaughtered animals from different organs were determined using the amplification of sequencing of the MT-CO1 ***: In the present study the infection rates of C. tenuicollis were found to be 16%and 19% in sheep and goat samples respectively. Firstly we report one larval stage of T. hydatigena detected in the camel liver in Egypt. C. tenuicollis infection manifested a higher prevalence in females than in males. Those above two years of age manifested a higher infection rate than younger animals. The preferred site for the infection was the omentum: a 70% preference in sheep and a 68% preference in goats. The molecular characterization using the MT-CO1 gene of isolates from sheep, goats and camels corresponded to T. hydatigena. For this study, molecular characterizations of T. hydatigena were done for the first time in Egypt. Molecular tools are of great assistance in characterizing the C. tenuicollis parasite especially when the morphological character cannot be detected, because the metacestodes are frequently confused with infection by the hydatid cyst, especially when these occur in the visceral organs. In the present study,C. tenuicollis manifested high identity in the goat and sheep samples, while differences were found more frequently in the camel samples(10 base pair).Conclusions: Clearly molecular diagnosis for C. tenuicollis infection significantly helps to differentiate it from such other metacestodes as hydatidosis, which manifests a completely different pathogenicity and requires different control programs.

Predicting soil erosion hazard in Lattakia Governorate(W Syria)

The main objective of this study is to predict soil erosion in the Lattakia Governorate(W Syria) using the Water Erosion Prediction Project model(WEPP) and to compare the result with that of the RUSLE. Field survey and data collection were carried out, and 44 soil samples were analyzed. In addition, all the necessary input files were prepared for use in the WEPP model and RUSLE. Results show that more than of 80% of the locations studied experience slight to moderate erosion(less than 5 t/ha/y), whereas the rest of the locations experience severe soil erosion hazard. Moreover, the volume of runoff estimated by the WEPP model is in the range of 51 e321 mm, and the R~2 between the simulated soil erosion and the predicted runoff reached 0.68. Interestingly, the R~2 between the WEPP model and RUSLE is 0.56, which indicates a good correlation between the two models.

Beach erosion along the coastline of Alexandria, Egypt

Long-term varations in beach width of Alexandria Governorate have ben analyzed using two sets of aerial photos taken in 1955 and 1983. The analysis reveals that a major part of most beaches has been subjecded to coastal erosion except for only beaches. The esthated long-term rate of erosion is approximately 0. 20 m/*** Maamoura, located east of Alexandria is selected to evaluate seasonal vacations. Sand volume lOsses are found to be 450 m3/ (m. a) for the entire beach length (1. 2 km). The annual sand transport by wind is estimated as about 37.7 m3. Subtracting this amount of sand from the net sand loss 450 m3/ (cm. a) yields 412.3 m3/(cm. a) of eroded sand caused by the action of currents and waves.
