Joint effects of micro-sized polystyrene and chlorpyrifos on zebrafish based on multiple endpoints and gut microbial effects

Microplastics often co-occur with a variety of organic contaminants in aquatic environment and pose combined risks to aquatic wildlife. Here, we investigated joint effects of microsized polystyrene(mPS, 5 μm) and an organophosphate pesticide chlorpyrifos on zebrafish,using multiple endpoints at both fish individual and gut microbiota levels. It was revealed that mPS ingested by zebrafish accumulated in gut and liver, and caused oxidative stress, hyperactive swimming performance and histological damages in fish, and induced disorders and diversity alterations of the gut microbial community. More importantly, mPS exhibited considerable adsorption capacity against chlorpyrifos, and those adsorbing chlorpyrifos presented greater effects on fish individuals but no different effects on gut microbiota compared to single mPS exposure. Together with body residues of chlorpyrifos in zebrafish,it was proposed that the joint effects between mPS and chlorpyrifos were attributed to the chlorpyrifos released from mPS within zebrafish. The present results provided a comprehensive understanding of joint effects of mPS and contaminants co-occurring in the environment and emphasized the importance of considering the adsorbed chemicals in toxicological studies of microplastics.

Sex-biased dispersal is common in group-living animals.Due to differences in local demographic and environmental factors,sex-biased dispersal presents many irregular patterns.In this study,a habituated,individually identified Yunnan snub-nosed monkey Rhinopithecus bieti group was observed over 9 years;192 dispersal events,including 97 male dispersal events(25 natal dispersal and 72 secondary dispersal)and 95 female dispersal events(34 natal dispersal and 61 secondary dispersal)were observed.Males and females showed different dispersal paths,dispersal ages,and dispersal patterns.Females had 2 dispersal paths,whereas males had 4 paths.In terms of age of dispersal,the male age of natal dispersal was younger than for females.Males prefer single dispersal,whereas females prefer parallel dispersal.Our study indicates that the dispersal pattern of R.bieti should be classified as a bisexual dispersal pattern.The differences in dispersal path,average age at dispersal,and dispersal path pattern indicate that Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys may still retain a loose matrilineal social system.

Invasion and defense of the basic social unit in a nonhuman primate society leads to sexual differences in the gut microbiome

Multilevel society is one of the most complex social systems in natural ecosystems and is a typical feature among some primates.Given the potential connection between social behavior and gut microbiome composition,the multilevel social system could affect the primate gut microbiome.Here,based on long-term observation(e.***.social unit dynamics,transfer,and behavior),we investigated this potential integrating 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing and behavior data in Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys(Rhinopithecus bieti),which possess a multilevel social group based on one male units(OMUs,each unit with several breeding females and their offspring)and all-male unit(AMU,several bachelor males residing together).We found that the mean unweighted Unifrac distance between adult males from different OMUs was significantly lower than that between adult females from different OMUs(paired Wilcoxon test,P=0.007).There was no significant difference in the mean unweighted Unifrac distance between females within the same OMU or between females from different OMUs.These findings indicated the potential connection between the defense and invasion of social units and the gut microbiome community in wild Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys.We speculated that the resident males of OMUs displaying a significantly higher similarity in the gut microbial community than that of adult females in separate OMUs might be associated with the sexual differences in their interactions and from previously having cohabitated together in the AMU.Therefore,this study suggested that multilevel societies might have an effect on the gut microbial community in this wild nonhuman primate species.

The causative pathogen of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),is an enveloped virus assembled by a lipid envelope and multiple structural proteins.In this study,by integrating experimental data,structural modeling,as well as coarse-grained and all-atom molecular dynamics simulations,we constructed multiscale models of SARS-CoV-2.Our 500-ns coarse-grained simulation of the intact virion allowed us to investigate the dynamic behavior of the membrane-embedded proteins and the surrounding lipid molecules in situ.Our results indicated that the membrane-embedded proteins are highly dynamic,and certain types of lipids exhibit various binding preferences to specific sites of the membrane-embedded proteins.The equilibrated virion model was transformed into atomic resolution,which provided a 3D structure for scientific demonstration and can serve as a framework forfuture exascale allatom molecular dynamics(MD)simulations.A short all-atom molecular dynamics simulation of 255 ps was conducted as a preliminary test for largescale simulationsofthis complexsystem.

Optimization of fracturing parameters for tight oil production based on genetic algorithm

It is difficult to determine the main controlling factors of tight oil production.In addition to the problem of uncontrollable prediction accuracy,the numerical prediction model established by the main controlling factors will also make the correctly predicted low production samples lose the value of development.Applying the optimization algorithm with fast convergence speed and global optimization to optimize the controllable parameters in the high-precision numerical prediction model can effectively improve the productivity of low production wells with timeliness,and bring greater economic value while saving development cost.Using PCA-GRA method,the sample weight and the weighted correlation ranking results of parameters affecting tight oil production were obtained.Thereupon then the main controlling factors of tight oil production were determined.Then we set up a BP neural network model with by taking the main controlling factors as input and tight oil production as output.The prediction effect of the network was good and can be put into use.The results of sensitivity analysis showed that the network was stable,and the total fracturing fluid volume had the greatest impact on the production of tight oil.Finally,by using genetic algorithm,we optimized the fracturing parameters of all low production well samples in the field data.Combined with the fracturing parameters of all high production well samples and the optimized fracturing parameters of low production wells,the optimal interval of fracturing parameters was given,which can provide guidance for the field fracturing operation.

As one of the key components of drip irrigation technology， the existence of sediment particles seriously affects the service life of emitters and restricts the popularization of drip irrigation technology. In this paper， two kinds of patch drip irrigation emitters are used as research object， and the anti-clogging performance experiment is carried out in the laboratory. The dynamic changes in emitters’ clogging characteristics (Dra， Cu) were statistically analyzed. The movement mechanism of emitter clogging and discharging sediment was studied. The effects of emitter structure and position factors on emitter clogging were analyzed. The results show that: (1) The pressure-compensated emitter has better anti-clogging performance， and its service life is 227.8% of the labyrinth channel emitter. (2) Single structural factor can not evaluate the anti-clogging performance of emitters. All factors causing emitter clogging should be considered comprehensively. (3) All emitters have sensitive clogging sediment inside， but only when sediment content is high can it easily cause blockage. The results show that when the sensitive sediment content is 5.46% and 5.54%， it does not affect the clogging characteristics of the emitters. (4) The discharge of sediment V90 from the emitter is affected by the accumulation effect of clogged sediment. The experimental results show that the emitter can discharge up to 50% of the accumulated clogged sediment without clogging. In comparison， the emitter with clogging can only discharge up to 25% of the accumulated clogged sediment. These results could provide references for the application and promotion of drip irrigation technology.

The concept of synthetic dimensions in photonics provides a versatile platform in exploring multi-dimensional physics.Many of these physics are characterized by band structures in more than one dimensions.Existing efforts on band structure measurements in the photonic synthetic frequency dimension however are limited to either onedimensional Brillouin zones or one-dimensional subsets of multi-dimensional Billouin zones.Here we theoretically propose and experimentally demonstrate a method to fully measure multi-dimensional band structures in the synthetic frequency dimension.We use a single photonic resonator under dynamical modulation to create a multidimensional synthetic frequency lattice.We show that the band structure of such a lattice over the entire multidimensional Brillouin zone can be measured by introducing a gauge potential into the lattice Hamiltonian.Using this method,we perform experimental measurements of two-dimensional band structures of a Hermitian and a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian.The measurements reveal some of the general properties of point-gap topology of the non-Hermitian Hamiltonian in more than one dimensions.Our results demonstrate experimental capabilities to fully characterize high-dimensional physical phenomena in the photonic synthetic frequency dimension.

Herein we presented a general strategy for in situ assembly of intramolecular charge-transfer(ICT)-based light-up fluorophores via bioorthogonal Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction.By introducing iodo group at the appropriate position,five fluorophores with different scaffolds including naphthalimide,coumarin,naphthalene sulfonate,nitrobenzoxadiazole,and acetonaphthone,were designed as bioorthogonal multicolor fluorogenic probes,which could produce significant fluorescence enhancement and high fluorescence quantum yield after Suzuki-Miyaura reaction with aryl boronic acid or boronate.Manipulating the substituents andπscaffold in the fluorophores allows fine-tuning of their photophysical properties.With this strategy,we succeeded in peptide conjugation,no-wash fluorogenic protein labeling,and mitochondria-selective bioorthogonal imaging in live cells.
