Polyethylene glycol fusion repair of severed rat sciatic nerves reestablishes axonal continuity and reorganizes sensory terminal fields in the spinal cord

Coastal wetlands are characterized by complex patterns both in their geomorphic and ecological features. Besides field observations, it is necessary to analyze the land cover of wetlands through the color infrared (CIR) aerial photography or remote sensing image. In this paper, we designed an evolving neural network classifier using variable string genetic algorithm (VGA) for the land cover classification of CIR aerial image. With the VGA, the classifier that we designed is able to evolve automatically the appropriate number of hidden nodes for modeling the neural network topology optimally and to find a near-optimal set of connection weights globally. Then, with backpropagation algo-rithm (BP), it can find the best connection weights. The VGA-BP classifier, which is derived from hybrid algorithms mentioned above, is demonstrated on CIR images classification effectively. Compared with standard classifiers, such as Bayes maximum-likelihood classifier, VGA classifier and BP-MLP (multi-layer perception) classifier, it has shown that the VGA-BP classifier can have better performance on highly resolution land cover classification.

Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis(DISH) is a prevalent noninflammatory spondyloarthropathy characterized by ectopic mineral formation along the anterolateral aspect of the vertebral column, yet little is known about its underlying pathogenesis. Our objective was to evaluate the histopathological features and composition of ectopic mineral within spinal tissues affected by DISH in humans. Thoracic spine segments from six embalmed cadaveric donors(one female and five males;median age 82 years)meeting the radiographic diagnostic criteria for DISH were evaluated using radiological, histological, and physical analyses. Overall,the histological features of ectopic mineralization at individual motion segments were heterogeneous, including regions of heterotopic ossification and dystrophic calcification. Heterotopic ossifications were characterized by woven and lamellar bone,multifocal areas of metaplastic cartilage, and bony bridges along the anterior aspect of the intervertebral disc space. Dystrophic calcifications were characterized by an amorphous appearance, a high content of calcium and phosphorus, an X-ray diffraction pattern matching that of hydroxyapatite, and radiodensities exceeding that of cortical bone. Dystrophic calcifications were found within the anterior longitudinal ligament and annulus fibrosus in motion segments both meeting and not meeting the radiographic criteria for DISH. In summary, our findings indicate that in DISH, ectopic mineral forms along the anterior aspect of the spine by both heterotopic ossification and dystrophic calcification of fibrocartilaginous tissues. Although both types of ectopic mineralization are captured by current radiographic criteria for DISH, dystrophic calcification may reflect a distinct disease process or an early stage in the pathogenesis of DISH.

Dear editor, Insect Science recently published a meta-analysis that tried to test support for the slow-growth high-mortality （hereafter SG-HM） hypothesis （Chen＆ Chen, 2018）. Meta-analysis is a powerful statistical tool used to quantitatively compare and summarize multiple studies （Arnqvist ＆ Wooster, 1995）. Background:Lower limb burns can significantly delay recovery of *** lower limb functional outcomes is challenging in the unique burn patient population and necessitates the use of reliable and valid *** aims of this study were to examine the test-retest reliability,sensitivity,and internal consistency of Sections 1 and 3 of the Lower Limb Functional Index-10(LLFI-10)questionnaire for measuring functional ability in patients with lower limb burns over ***:Twenty-nine adult patients who had sustained a lower limb burn injury in the previous 12 months completed the test-retest procedure of the *** addition,the minimal detectable change(MDC)was calculated for Section 1 and 3 of the *** 1 is focused on the activity limitations experienced by patients with a lower limb disorder whereas Section 3 involves patients indicating their current percentage of pre-injury ***:Section 1 of the LLFI-10 demonstrated excellent test-retest reliability(intra-class correlation coefficient(ICC)0.98,95%CI 0.96–0.99)whilst Section 3 demonstrated high test-retest reliability(ICC 0.88,95%CI 0.79–0.94).MDC scores for Sections 1 and 3 were 1.27 points and 30.22%,*** consistency was demonstrated with a significant negative association(rs=?0.83)between Sections 1 and 3 of the LLFI-10(pemonstrates that Section 1 and 3 of the LLFI-10 are reliable for measuring functional ability in patients who have sustained lower limb burns in the previous 12 months,and furthermore,Section 1 is sensitive to changes in patient function over time.
