The world is experiencing reflections of the intersection of two pandemics:Obesity and coronavirus disease *** prevalence of obesity has tripled since 1975 worldwide,representing substantial public health costs due to its *** adipose tissue is the initial site of obesity *** excessive energy intake,it undergoes hyperplasia and hypertrophy until overt inflammation and insulin resistance turn adipocytes into dysfunctional cells that send lipotoxic signals to other *** pancreas is one of the organs most affected by *** lipotoxicity becomes chronic,there is an increase in insulin secretion by pancreatic beta cells,a surrogate for type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).These alterations threaten the survival of the pancreatic islets,which tend to become dysfunctional,reaching exhaustion in the long *** for the liver,lipotoxicity favors lipogenesis and impairs beta-oxidation,resulting in hepatic *** silent disease affects around 30%of the worldwide population and can evolve into end-stage liver *** therapy for hepatic steatosis remains to be defined,peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors(PPARs)activation copes with T2DM *** PPARs are transcription factors found at the intersection of several metabolic pathways,leading to insulin resistance relief,improved thermogenesis,and expressive hepatic steatosis mitigation by increasing mitochondrial *** review aimed to update the potential of PPAR agonists as targets to treat metabolic diseases,focusing on adipose tissue plasticity and hepatic and pancreatic remodeling.

Healthcare professionals in infectious diseases have been using Twitter to disseminate knowledge and interact with other *** study aimed to identify and characterize the top 100 Twitter influencers in infectious diseases and to analyze the correlation between Twitter and academic *** Right Relevance Application Programming Interface was used to search for the term“infectious diseases,”producing a Twitter topic score for the top 100 infectious disease *** influencers'Hirsch index(h-index)was compared with their Twitter topic score for a possible *** identified that 46%of the infectious disease influencers were physicians.A correlation between the Twitter topic score of the infectious disease influencers and their h-index was not identified(r=0.123,P=0.22).The study also provides a list of the infectious disease influencers for those who have an interest in engaging and interacting with them on Twitter.

In this study the potential of cloud point extraction formed by a non-ionic surfactant was used in order to separate polyphenols from industrial residues of camu-camu. The effects of operational conditions of the cloud point extraction(CPE) on the polyphenol recovery and volumetric ratio were investigated. The results showed a maximum recovery of 95.71% that was obtained using 7.0 wt% Triton X-114, native pH(3.25), and 80 wt%polyphenol extract at 30 °C. The use of cloud point extraction was successful to recover the polyphenols from agroindustrial residue since it is a simple as well as of low-cost technique.

Gully erosion is a worldwide problem of land degradation and water quality,and it is also frequent in ***,anthropic influence is the major driver of gully *** study and monitor gullies it is necessary to use specific instruments and methods to obtain accurate *** objective of this study was to use Terrestrial Laser Scanning(TLS) to create digital elevation model(DEM) accurately and define morphometric variables that characterize gullies in a mountainous *** different interpolations were evaluated using the Topogrid and GridSurfaceCreate algorithms to elaborate *** profile for gullies was used to assess modeling *** DEM of the Gully 1(G1) from the Topogrid algorithm estimated soil loss of 49%,whereas the GridSurfaceCreate algorithm estimated a soil loss of97%,in a period of 1 *** estimated soil loss for the Gully 2(G2) was 14% from the Topogrid,and 8%from the GridSurfaceCreate *** GridSurfaceCreate algorithm underestimated the volume to area ratio for G2 due to a failure on interpolating a region of low point *** Topogrid algorithm represented better the terrain irregularities,as observed through the topographic profiles traced in three regions of G1 and *** analysis showed that the GridSurfaceCreate algorithm presented lower accuracy in estimating *** underestimation trend of this algorithm was also observed in *** gullies showed considerable soil losses,which may reduce the areas suitable for agricultural activities,and silting up of water *** Topogrid algorithm presented satisfactory results,denoting great potential to produce morphometric data of gullies.

Water-spraying is regarded as an effective method to reduce the weight loss of product during vacuum cooling *** study aimed to investigate the effect of vacuum cooling factors on the weight loss of postharvest broccoli,and attempted to optimize the treatment conditions by simulated annealing(SA)*** algorithm based on simulated annealing meta-heuristic technique was developed to identify the optimum condition for vacuum cooling treatment of *** demonstrated that the SA algorithm could adjust well with the simulation of the broccoli cooling *** best condition was at 200 Pa of pressure,274 g broccoli,6% of water volume and 40 min processing *** this condition,a product with only 0.35% of weight loss and 1.48℃ final temperature was *** developed method may help to effectively control the weight loss during vacuum cooling process and reducing the economic loss.

Testicular prostheses-impact on quality of life and sexual function

Orchiectomy is the recommended treatment for many testicular ***,testicular prosthesis placement is not always performed for different *** this study,we aimed to evaluate patients'opinions and the impact on sexual function and quality of *** retrospective observational single-center study included patients who underwent orchiectomy between January 2014 and December 2020 at the Department of Urology,Braga's Hospital(Braga,Portugal),where testicular implants were always available and the decision to undergo the procedure was made fully independent of *** completed four questionnaires that assessed demographic data,satisfaction,self-esteem,and sexual *** the 96 patients who underwent orchidectomy,59 replied to the questionnaires,and of these patients,86.4%decided to undergo silicone-based testicular prostheses *** remaining 13.6%refused the implant based on concerns about complications(37.5%),because they felt that it was unnecessary(37.5%),or because it was not offered by the doctor(25.0%).Overall,96.1%of these patients were satisfied with the implant;however,25.5%classified it as"too firm".No statistically significant differences were found in sexual function(all P>0.05).However,it can be observed that there are more patients with prostheses presenting normal sexual activity compared to patients without prostheses(74.0%vs 50.0%),and none of them reported severe erectile dysfunction(0 vs 16.7%).Regarding self-esteem,both patients with and without prostheses present very similar average scores with no statistically significant *** present study highlights the highest level of satisfaction among patients who received testicular *** prostheses implantation is a safe procedure that does not hamper sexual function after orchiectomy.

Appropriate search techniques to estimate Weibull function parameters in a Pinus ***

The Weibull function,a continuous probability distribution,is widely used for diameter distribution modelling,in which parameter estimation performance is affected by stand attributes and fitting *** Weibull cumulative distribution function is nonlinear,and classical fitting methods may provide a not optimal *** the use of artificial intelligence by metaheuristics is reasonable for this optimisation ***,aimed and compared(1)the metaheuristics genetic algorithm and simulated annealing performance over the moment and percentile methods;(2)the hybrid strategy merging the metaheuristics tested and the percentile method and,(3)the metaheuristics fitness functions under basal area and density errors.A long-term experiment in a Pinus taeda stand subjected to crown thinning was *** to our findings,all methods have a similar performance,independent of the thinning regimes and *** pattern of the estimated parameters tends to be acceptable,as b increases over time and c increases after ***,our findings suggest that methods based on metaheuristics have a higher precision than classical methods for estimating Weibull *** to the classification test,the methods that involved simulated annealing stood *** hybrid method involving this metaheuristic also stood out,with accurate *** methods showed the poorest performance,and we therefore suggest the use of simulated annealing due to its faster processing time and high-quality solution.
