Leaf beetles Gastrophysa viridula have attracted recently increased research interest from various points of view, since they are：（i） pest insects in rhubarb crops; （ii） potential biocontrol agents of dock plants Rumex spp. in grasslands; and （iii） a model species in ecological studies on insect population dynamics, biochemistry, behavior, biomechanics and biomimetics. The continuous rearing of beetles at standardized conditions may help to unify the fitness state of different individuals, allowing a better comparison of experimental results. The present communication suggests a modular space- and time-saving rearing method ofG. viridula in stackable faunariums under laboratory conditions, which has been successfully established and continuously used over the last 5 years. Several developmental stages were kept in separate boxes, and multiple generations were kept simultaneously, depending on the required number of beetles.

The so-called rain-cracking of sweet cherry fruit severely threatens commercial *** observation tells us that cuticular microcracking(invisible)always precedes skin macrocracking(visible).The objective here was to investigate how a macrocrack *** detached sweet cherry fruit in deionized water induces *** fruit in D2O and concurrent magnetic resonance imaging demonstrates that water penetration occurs only(principally)through the microcracks,with nondetectable amounts penetrating the intact *** coherence tomography of detached,whole fruit incubated in deionized water,allowed generation of virtual cross-sections through the zone of a developing *** mesocarp cell volume increased before macrocracks developed but increased at a markedly higher rate *** change in mesocarp cell volume occurred in a control zone distant from the *** water incubation continued,the cell volume in the crack zone decreased,indicating leaking/bursting of individual mesocarp *** incubation continued still longer,the crack propagated between cells both to form a long,deep *** mesocarp cell turgor did not differ significantly before and after incubation between fruit with or without macrocracks;nor between cells within the crack zone and those in a control zone distant from the *** cumulative frequency distribution of the logtransformed turgor pressure of a population of outer mesocarp cells reveals all cell turgor data followed a normal *** results demonstrate that microcracks develop into macrocracks following the volume increase of a few outer mesocarp cells and is soon accompanied by cell bursting.

Objective: Prostate secretory protein of 94 amino acids(PSP94) is a target gene of the EZH2 transcriptional repressor and is often downregulated in prostate cancer;however, its prognostic value is ***: Immunohistochemical analysis of a tissue microarray of 12, 432 prostate cancer specimens was performed to evaluate PSP94 expression. Correlation of PSP94 expression with tumor phenotype, patient prognosis, TMPRSS2:ERG fusion status, EZH2 expression and PTEN deletion was ***: PSP94 expression was increased in benign prostatic hyperplasia;however, it was downregulated in 48% and negative in42% of the 9, 881 interpretable prostate cancer specimens. The loss of PSP94 expression was inversely correlated to EZH2 expression(P ovided additional prognostic impact in cancer specimens with PTEN deletion. Loss of PSP94 deteriorated prognosis of cancer patients with PTEN deletion by more than 10%(P ovided independent prognostic information that was observed in several subgroups defined by classical and quantitative Gleason ***: The results of our study suggest that combined PSP94/PTEN analysis can be potentially used in the clinical prognosis of prostate cancer.

Study Objectives:We investigate how characteristics of sleep-wake dynamics in humans are modified by narcolepsy,a clinical condition that is supposed to destabilize sleep-wake *** with and without cataplexy are considered *** in sleep scoring habits as a possible confounder have been ***:Four groups of subjects are considered:narcolepsy patients from China with（n=88） and without（n=15） cataplexy,healthy controls from China（n=110） and from Europe（n=187,two nights each）.After sleep stage scoring and calculation of sleep characteristic parameters,the distributions of wake-episode durations and sleep-episode durations are determined for each group and fitted by power-laws（exponent a） and by exponentials（decay time x）.Results:We find that wake duration distributions are consistent with power laws for healthy subjects（China:α=0.88,Europe:a=1.02）.Wake durations in all groups of narcolepsy patients,however,follow the exponential law（τ=6.2-8.1 min）.All sleep duration distributions are best fitted by exponentials on long time scales（τ=34-82 min）.Conclusions:We conclude that narcolepsy mainly alters the control of wake-episode durations but not sleepepisode durations,irrespective of *** sleep characteristic parameters as well as the observed distributions of shortest wake and sleep durations suggest that there are differences in scoring habits between Europe and China that,however,do not affect the main conclusion.

Background:IgG-class autoantibodies to N-Methyl-D-Aspartate(NMDA)-type glutamate receptors define a novel entity of autoimmune *** examining the prevalence of NMDA IgA/IgM antibodies in patients with Parkinson disease with/without dementia produced conflicting *** measured NMDA antibodies in a large,well phenotyped sample of Parkinson patients without and with cognitive impairment(n=296)and controls(n=295)free of neuropsychiatric *** phenotyping and large numbers allowed statistically meaningful correlation of antibody status with diagnostic subgroups as well as quantitative indicators of disease severity and cognitive ***:NMDA antibodies were analysed in the serum of patients and controls using well established validated *** used anti-NMDA antibody positivity as the main independent variable and correlated it with disease status and phenotypic ***:The frequency of NMDA IgA/IgM antibodies was lower in Parkinson patients(13%)than in controls(22%)and higher than in previous studies in both *** IgA/IgM antibodies were neither significantly associated with diagnostic subclasses of Parkinson disease according to cognitive impairment,nor with quantitative indicators of disease severity and cognitive impairment.A positive NMDA antibody status was positively correlated with age in controls but not in Parkinson ***:It is unlikely albeit not impossible that NMDA antibodies play a significant role in the pathogenesis or progression of Parkinson disease *** Parkinson disease with dementia,while NMDA IgG antibodies define a separate disease of its own.
