Modulating inflammatory cells in an implantation site leads to severe complications and still unsolved challenges for blood-contacting medical *** by the role of galectin-1(Gal-1)in selective functions on multiple cells and immunomodulatory processes,we prepared a biologically target-specific surface coated with the lipid bilayer containing Gal-1(Gal-1-SLB)and investigate the proof of the biological ***,lipoamido-dPEG-acid was deposited on a gold-coated substrate to form a self-assembled monolayer and then conjugated dioleoylphosphatidylethanolamine(DOPE)onto that to produce a lower leaflet of the supported lipid bilayer(SLB)before fusing membrane-derived vesicles extracted from B16-F10 *** Gal-1-SLB showed the expected anti-fouling activity by revealing the resistance to protein adsorption and bacterial *** vitro studies showed that the Gal-1-SLB can promote endothelial function and inhibit smooth muscle cell ***,Gal-1-SLB presents potential function for endothelial cell migration and angiogenic *** vitro macrophage culture studies showed that the Gal-1-SLB attenuated the LPS-induced inflammation and the production of macrophage-secreted inflammatory ***,the implanted Gal-1-SLB reduced the infiltration of immune cells at the tissue-implant interface and increased markers for M2 polarization and blood vessel formation in *** straightforward surface coating with Gal-1 can be a useful strategy for modulating the vascular and immune cells around a blood-contacting device.

Electrical stimulation has recently received attention as noninvasive treatment in skin wound healing with its outstanding biological property for clinical ***,the complexity of equipment for applying appropriate electrical stimulation remains an ongoing ***,we proposed a strategy for skin scar inhibition by providing electrical stimulation via a multilayer stacked electret(MS-electret),which can generate direct current(DC)electric field(EF)without any power supply *** addition,the MS-electret can easily control the intensity of EFs by simply stacking electret layers and maintain stable EF with the surface potential of 3400 V over 5 days owing to the injected charges on the electret *** confirmed inhibition of type 1 collagen andα-SMA expression of human dermal fibroblasts(hDFs)by 90%and 44%in vitro,indicating that the transition of hDFs to myofibroblasts was restricted by applying stable electrical *** further revealed a 20%significant decrease in the ratio of myofibroblasts caused by the MS-electret in *** findings present that the MS-electret is an outstanding candidate for effective skin scar inhibition with a battery-free,physiological electrical microenvironment,and noninvasive treatment that allows it to prevent external infection.

Effects of drought stress on root morphology and spatial distribution of soybean and adzuki bean

Due to global climate change,Korea is facing severe droughts that affect the planting and early vegetative periods of upland *** and adzuki bean are important legume crops in Korea,so it is critical to understand their adaptations to water *** study investigated the changes in root morphological properties in soybean and adzuki bean and quantified the findings using fractal *** experiment was performed at the National Institute of Crop Science in Miryang,*** and adzuki beans were planted in test boxes and grown for 30 *** boxes were filled with bed soil with various soil moisture *** images were obtained and scanned every two days,and the root properties were characterized by root length,depth and surface area,number of roots,and fractal parameters(fractal dimension and lacunarity).Root depth,length and surface area and the number of roots increased in both crops as the soil moisture content *** fractal dimension and lacunarity values increased as the soil moisture content *** results indicated that the greater the soil moisture,the more heterogeneous the root *** analysis of the morphological properties and fractal parameters indicated that soybean and adzuki bean had different root structure *** soybean and adzuki bean were sensitive to the amount of soil moisture in the early vegetative *** required a soil moisture content greater than 70%of the field capacity to develop a full root structure,while adzuki bean required 100%of the field *** results would be useful in understanding the responses of soybean and adzuki bean to water stress and managing irrigation during cultivation.

Sucrose induces flowering by degradation of the floral repressor Ghd7 via K48-linked polyubiquitination in rice

Sucrose functions as a signaling molecule in several metabolic pathways as well as in various developmental processes. However, the molecular mechanisms by which sucrose regulates these processes remain largely unknown. In the present study, we demonstrate that sucrose promotes flowering by mediating the stability of a regulatory protein that represses flowering in rice. Exogenous application of sucrose promoted flowering by inducing florigen gene expression. Reduction of sucrose levels in the phloem through genetic modifications, such as the overexpression of the vacuolar invertase OsVIN2 or the mutation of OsSUT2, a sucrose transporter, delayed flowering. Analysis of relative transcript levels of floral regulatory genes showed that sucrose activated Ehd1 upstream of the florigen, with no significant effect on the expression of other upstream genes. Examination of protein stability after sucrose treatment of major floral repressors revealed that the Ghd7 protein was specifically degraded. The Ghd7 protein interacted with the E3 ligase IPA INTERACTING PROTEIN1 (IPI1), and sucrose-induced K48-linked polyubiquitination of Ghd7 via IPI1, leading to protein degradation. Mutants defective in IPI1 delayed flowering, confirming its role in modulating proteins involved in flowering. We conclude that sucrose acts as a signaling molecule to induce flowering by promoting Ghd7 degradation via IPI1. Perspective Projection Algorithm Enabling Mobile Device’s Indoor Positioning

In order to improve the user’s satisfaction with the augmented reality (AR) technology and the accuracy of the service, it is important to obtain the exact position of the user. Frequently used techniques for finding outdoors locations is the global positioning system (GPS), which is less accurate indoors. Therefore, an indoor position is measured by comparing the reception level about access point (AP) signal of wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) or using bluetooth low energy (BLE) tags. However, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth require additional hardware installation. In this paper, the proposed method of estimating the user’s position uses an indoor image and indoor coordinate map without additional hardware installation. The indoor image has several feature points extracted from fixed objects. By matching the feature points with the feature points of the user image, we can obtain the position of the user on the Indoor map by obtaining six or more pixel coordinates from the user image and solving the solution using the perspective projection formula. The experimental results show that the user position can be obtained more accurately in the indoor environment by using only the software without additional hardware installation.
