A case of gouty arthritis following percutaneous radiofrequency ablation for hepatocellular carcinoma

Percutaneous radiofrequency thermal ablation(RFA) is considered an effective technique for providing local control in the majority of Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) *** RFA is generally well tolerated,recent studies have reported complications associated with *** describe a case of acute gouty arthritis in a 71-year-old man with chronic renal failure who was treated with RFA for a HCC lesion and who had hepatitis B-associated cirrhosis and mild renal *** surveillance of the patient detected a 3.5 cm HCC *** the patient had declined surgery,RFA was chosen for *** the third post-procedural day,the laboratory results showed increases in his uric acid and potassium levels,which were compatible with a tumor lysis syndrome. On the 6th post-procedural day,the patient complained of new right knee *** joint aspiration revealed monosodium urate monohydrate *** made the diagnosis of acute gouty arthritis arising from tumor lysis and liver infarction caused by HCC ablation,which was aggravated by acute renal insufficiency. After adequate hydration and administration of oral colchicines,the patient's right knee pain subsided andthe uric acid serum level returned to *** is the first described case of acute gouty arthritis after RFA for a HCC lesion in a patient with underlying chronic renal *** avoid hyperuricemia and an acute attack of gout after RFA therapy for HCC,early identification of patients at risk is warranted,such as those with a large tumor,rapid tumor growth,and renal insufficiency,and preventative measures should be considered.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is associated with coronary artery disease in Koreans

AIM:To investigate whether nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)affects coronary artery disease(CAD)and identify candidate ***:Patients who underwent coronary angiography were consecutively *** patients were classified into four groups by coronary artery stenosis:A,insignificant;B,one-vessel disease;C,two-vessel disease;and D,three-vessel *** ultrasonography was performed to determine the presence of a fatty liver and categorize by grade:0,no evidence;1,mild;2,moderate;and 3,*** measured not only known CAD risk factors,but also serum insulin,HOMA-index,adiponectin,interleukin-6,tumor necrosis factor-αand high-sensitivity C-reactive protein ***:Of the 134 patients who met the inclusion criteria,82(61.2%)had ultrasonographically diagnosed *** the 46 patients with CAD,37(80.4%)had evidence of a fatty *** two groups(A vs B-D)were significantly different in terms of age,total cholesterol,triglycerides,low-density lipoprotein levels and fatty *** artery stenosis was strongly associated with fatty liver in a grade-dependent manner(P=0.025).In binary logistic regression,NAFLD was a significant independent predictor of CAD(P=0.03,OR=1.685;95%CI:1.051-2.702).Among the candidate mediators,the serum adiponectin level showed a trend toward lowering based on CAD progression(P=0.071).CONCLUSION:NAFLD is an independent risk factor for CAD in a grade-dependent ***,adiponectin might be related to the pathogenesis of NAFLD.

Impact of power system network topology errors on real-time locational marginal price

This paper examines the impact of power transmission network topology change on locational marginal price(LMP) in real-time power markets. We consider the case where the false status of circuit breakers(CBs) that bypass topology error processing can generate an incorrect power system network topology, subsequently distorting the results of the state estimation and economic *** main goal of this paper is to assess the economic impact of this misconfigured network topology on realtime LMP in an entire power system with network congestion. To this end, we start with our prior result, a simple and analytical congestion price equation, which can be applied to any single line congestion scenario. This equation can be extended to better understand the degree to which the LMP at any bus changes due to any line status error. Furthermore, it enables a rigorous analysis of the relationship between the change in LMP at any bus with respect to any line error and various physical/economical grid conditions such as the bidding prices for marginal generators and the locations of the congested/erroneous lines. Numerical examples on the impact analysis of this topology error are illustrated in IEEE 14-bus and 118-bus systems.

Development of polyimide films reinforced with boron nitride and boron nitride nanosheets for transparent flexible device applications

The benefits of reinforcing polyimide （PI） films with boron nitride （BN） particles and boron nitride nanosheets （BNNSs） were assessed with the aim of enhancing their thermal, optical, and mechanical properties for flexible device applications. BNNSs were prepared from BN particles using a liquid-phase exfoliation method assisted by an ultrasonic probe-type sonicator and centrifugator. PI-based composite films blended with BNNSs and BN particles were fabricated at various concentrations via mechanical stirring and spin coating. The transparency of the PI/BNNS composite films remained almost the same as that of pure PI films up to 3 wt.% whereas the transparency of the PI/BN composite films decreased with increasing concentration of the BN fillers at 550 nm. The thermal stability improved significantly with increasing concentrations of both BN and BNNS relative to that of pure PI films. The temperature for 5% weight loss of the PI/BNNS composite film was higher than that of the PI/BN composite film at the same filler concentration. The composite films with 2 wt.% BN or BNNS showed the lowest wear rate, and the PI/BNNS composite films showed more stable frictional behavior compared to the PI/BN composite films. In addition, bending tests showed that the PI/BNNS composite films exhibited excellent flexibility compared to the PI/BN composite films. Overall, the results indicate that the BNNS can be effectively used as a filler that can enhance the thermal and mechanical properties of polymer materials for flexible device applications.

Influence of the wastewater composition on denitrification and biological P-removal in the S-DN-P process: (c) Dissolved and undissolved substrates

The denitdfication and P-removal in the sorption-denitrification-P-removal （S-DN-P） process were carded out under various wastewater compositions. It is noted that P-removal largely depends on the wastewater composition as well to the quantity of the substrates present in wastewater fraction. Three different wastewater fractions are obtained as： raw wastewater, dissolved wastewater （obtained with filtration using 0.45 μm filter）, and undissolved wastewater （i.e., infiltrate obtained by above filtration）. The ratio of P-release/CODtotal-consumption clearly inferred that undissolved wastewater possess very low value i.e., 0.0008 followed by raw wastewater 0.008 and dissolved wastewater 0.03. When this ratio was nearby 0.01, enhanced P-removal was observed. Moreover, the ratio of P-uptake to NO3^--N decomposition for raw wastewater was two times for dissolved wastewater. Interestingly, it was observed that the P-removal and denitrification depend not only on the dissolved substrates but also the undissolved substrates present in the wastewater. The result of the P-removal obtained with this S-DN-P process did not show a big difference of 36%, 34% and 30%, respectively, for raw, dissolved and undissolved wastewater.

Antioxidant and anticancer activity of Artemisia princeps *** extract in HepG2 and Hep3B hepatocellular carcinoma cells

Objective：The aim of the present study was to investigate antioxidant and the anticancerigen activity of a methanol extract from Artemisia princeps *** （APME）,a well-known traditional herbal medicine in Asia,in hepatocellular cancer ***：To evaluate the antioxidant activity of APME,reactive oxygen species （ROS） and the antioxidant enzymes,superoxide dismutase （SOD） and catalase were investigated in HepG2 cells exposed to APME （5,100,and 200 μg/mL） for 72 ***,to evaluate the anticancer activity of APME,we investigated the proliferation and apoptosis induction of HepG2 and Hep3B cells exposed to APME （1-200 μg/mL） for 24,48,and 72 ***：APME dose-dependently reduced the generation of ROS in the presence of H2O2 compared with control ***,it increased catalase and SOD ***,APME inhibited cell proliferation in a dose-and time-dependcnt manner,but at concentrations lower than 100 μg/mL,the inhibition was less dose-dependent than ***2 and Hep3B cells exposed to 5,100,and 200 μg/mL APME for 72 h underwent cell cycle arrest and *** to APME resulted in a significant increase in the number of cells in G1 phase and a decrease in the G2/M phase cell *** addition,APME induced P53 expression of HepG2 cells in a dose-dependent manner,and played a role in the downregulation of Bcl-2 and upregulation of Bax in both HepG2 and Hep3B ***：These results indicate the potential role of APME as an antioxidant and anticancerigen agent in hepatocarcinoma cell lines.

Consistency of intensity ratio between spectral lines with similar self-absorption characteristics during ungated laser induced breakdown spectroscopy measurements

This work reports that the intensity ratio of spectral lines having similar self-absorption characteristics during laser induced breakdown spectroscopy(LIBS) analysis can become nearly constant over a wide range of irradiation conditions if the intensities are integrated over a sufficiently long time. It is shown that the plasma temperature and intensity ratio of these spectral lines have temporal similarity. The spectral lines with similar self-absorption properties may be selected to improve the accuracy and consistency of LIBS analysis results under an environment with fluctuating measurement conditions.

Targeted and effective photodynamic therapy for cancer using functionalized nanomaterials

Photodynamic therapy(PDT) is an emerging, non-invasive therapeutic strategy that involves photosensitizer(PS) drugs and external light for the treatment of diseases. Despite the great progress in PS-mediated PDT, their clinical applications are still hampered by poor water solubility and tissue/cell specificity of conventional PS drugs. Therefore, great efforts have been made towards the development of nanomaterials that can tackle fundamental challenges in conventional PS drug–mediated PDT for cancer treatment. This review highlights recent advances in the development of nano-platforms, in which various functionalized organic and inorganic nanomaterials are integrated with PS drugs, for significantly enhanced efficacy and tumor-selectivity of PDT.

The marine medium-speed diesel engines are started by two methods;one is the electric motors,and the other air starting *** though air starting motor is dependent of the engine types and sizes,it has been widely used in this area due to its simplicity,convenience and *** purpose of this paper is to give the designing parameters in order to make a proper "Air Starting Motor" using *** aerodynamic approaches were given to understand the internal flow characteristics of the air starting *** addition,we have carried out the investigation of effects of tip *** the calculations the tip clearance of air starting motor has been varied between 0,2.8,4.3 and 5.7% of blade *** results of computation are the tip clearance increased to 2.8%,the torque decreased 24%,and there was no more large changes when the clearances increased to 4.3% and 5.7%.

Comparison of Adsorption Isotherms of Methylxanthines on C_(18) Column

A comparison of the adsorption isotherms of caffeine, theophylline and theobromine and the competitive adsorption of the three compounds on a C18 column were investigated. The experimental parameters of the equilibrium isotherms were estimated by linear and nonlinear regression analyses. The linear equation as a function of the adsorption concentration of the single compound in its solution and the competitive adsorption of a single compound in a mixed solution were then determined. The adsorption equilibrium data were then correlated to the linear, Langmuir, Freundlich, Langmuir-Freundlich and stoichiometric displacement theory for adsorption（SDT-A） isotherm models. The mixed compounds of the three compounds were competitively adsorbed on the C18 particles. The expression of stoichiometric displacement theory for adsorption was found to be more suitable for adsorption of methylxanthines on a C18 column.
