Insect-based agri-food waste valorization:Agricultural applications and roles of insect gut microbiota

Meeting the demands of the growing population requires increased food and feed production,leading to higher levels of agri-food *** this type of waste seriously threatens public health and the environment,novel approaches to waste management should be *** have been proposed as efficient agents for biorefining waste,producing biomass that can be used for commercial ***,challenges in achieving optimal outcomes and maximizing beneficial results *** symbionts associated with insects are known to have a critical role in the development,fitness,and versatility of insects,and as such,they can be utilized as targets for the optimization of agri-food waste insect-based biorefinery *** review discusses insect-based biorefineries,focusing on the agricultural applications of edible insects,mainly as animal feed and organic *** also describe the interplay between agri-food waste-utilizing insects and associated microbiota and the microbial contribution in enhancing insect growth,development,and involvement in organic waste bioconversion *** potential contribution of insect gut microbiota in eliminating pathogens,toxins,and pollutants and microbe-mediated approaches for enhancing insect growth and the bioconversion of organic waste are also *** present review outlines the benefits of using insects in agri-food and organic waste biorefinery systems,describes the roles of insect-associated microbial symbionts in waste bioconversion processes,and highlights the potential of such biorefinery systems in addressing the current agri-food waste-related challenges.

Long term outcome of antiviral therapy in patients with hepatitis B associated decompensated cirrhosis

AIM To investigate survival rate and incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) in patients with decompensated cirrhosis in the antiviral *** We used the Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment. Korea's health insurance system is a public single-payer system. The study population consisted of 286871 patients who were prescribed hepatitis B antiviral therapy for the first time between 2007 and 2014 in accordance with the insurance ***, 48365 antiviral treatment-na?ve patients treated between 2008 and 2009 were included, and each had a follow-up period ≥ 5 years. Data were analyzed for the 1 st decompensated chronic hepatitis B(CHB) and treatment-na?ve patients(n = 7166). RESULTS The mean patient age was 43.5 years. The annual mortality rates were 2.4%-19.1%, and 5-year cumulative mortality rate was 32.6% in 1^(st) decompensated CHB treatment-na?ve subjects. But the annual mortality rates sharply decreased to 3.4%(2.4%-4.9%, 2-5 year) after one year of antiviral treatment. Incidence of HCC at first year was 14.3%, the annual incidence of HCC decreased to 2.5%(1.8%-3.7%, 2-5 year) after one year. 5-year cumulative incidence of HCC was 24.1%. Recurrence rate of decompensated event was 46.9% at first year, but the annual incidence of second decompensation events in decompensated CHB treatment-na?ve patients was 3.4%(2.1%-5.4%, 2-5 year) after one year antiviral treatment. 5-year cumulative recurrence rate of decompensated events was 60.6%. Meanwhile, 5-year cumulative mortality rate was 3.1%, and 5-year cumulative incidence of HCC was 11.5% in compensated CHB treatment-na?ve *** Long term outcome of decompensated cirrhosis treated with antiviral agent improved much, and incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma and mortality sharply decreased after one year treatment.

Collective cell migration plays a critical role in physiological and pathological processes such as development,wound healing,and *** studies have demonstrated how various types of chemical,mechanical,and electrical cues dictate the collective migratory behaviors of *** an acoustic cue can be advantageous because of its noninvasiveness and biocompatibility,cell migration in response to acoustic stimulation remains poorly *** this study,we developed a device that is able to apply surface acoustic waves to a cell culture substrate and investigated the effect of propagating acoustic waves on collective cell *** migration distance estimated at various wave intensities revealed that unidirectional cell migration was enhanced at a critical wave intensity and that it was suppressed as the intensity was further *** increased migration might be attributable to cell orientation alignment along the direction of the propagating wave,as characterized by nucleus *** actin bundles indicative of a high traction force were observed in cells subjected to propagating acoustic waves at the critical *** device and technique can be useful for regulating cellular functions associated with cell migration.

Mg-Al-Zn-Ca-Y alloys with excellent ignition and corrosion resistances—termed SEN alloys(where the letters"S,""E,"and"N"stand for stainless,environmentally friendly,and non-flammable,respectively)—have been developed *** this study,the microstructure,tensile properties,and high-cycle fatigue properties of an extruded Mg-9.0Al-0.8Zn-0.1Mn-0.3Ca-0.2Y(SEN9)alloy are investigated and compared with those of a commercial Mg-9.0Al-0.8Zn-0.1Mn(AZ91)alloy extruded under the same *** the extruded SEN9 alloy and the extruded AZ91 alloy have a fully recrystallized structure comprising equiaxed grains,but the former has a smaller average grain size owing to the promoted dynamic recrystallization during *** extruded AZ91 alloy contains coarse Mg_(17)Al_(12) discontinuous precipitate(DP)bands parallel to the extrusion direction,which are formed during its cool down after *** contrast,the extruded SEN9 alloy contains relatively fine undissolved Al_(2)Ca,Al_(8)Mn_(4)Y,and Al_(2)Y second-phase particles,which are formed during the solidification stage of the casting *** tensile strength of the extruded SEN9 alloy,which has finer grains and more abundant particles,is slightly higher than that of the extruded AZ91 ***,the difference in their strengths is relatively small because the stronger solid-solution hardening and precipitation hardening effects in the extruded AZ91alloy offset the stronger grain-boundary hardening and dispersion hardening effects in the extruded SEN9alloy to some *** tensile elongation of the extruded AZ91 alloy is significantly lower than that of the extruded SEN9 alloy because the large cracks formed in the DP bands in the former cause its premature *** the extruded SEN9 alloy has higher tensile properties than the extruded AZ91alloy,the high-cycle fatigue life and fatigue strength of the former are shorter and lower,respectively,than those of the *** DP bands in the extruded

Origami multi-layer space shield for cylindrical space structure

The multidisciplinary space environment,encompassing orbital debris,cosmic radiation,and solar radiative heat,poses significant risks to spacecraft and astronauts,necessitating efficient and effective shielding solutions.A multi-layer shield with wide spacing has been proven to be an effective way to shield the spacecraft from space debris impact;however,due to the limited volume of the payload fairing,it was not feasible to apply a multi-layer shield to the spacecraft *** the origami design,the shield maintains a compact form during launch and subsequently expands in outer space to enhance *** geometric analysis,it has been confirmed that the deployable multi-layer space shield can occupy less space than conventional space shield structures while expanding into wider shield intervals and multiple *** hypervelocity impact experiments,it was confirmed that as the bumper spacing of the multi-layer space shield expands,its ballistic performance becomes superior to conventional space *** deployable multi-layer space shield can reduce not only hypervelocity impacts but also solar radiative heat using the same mechanism as multi-layer *** cosmic radiation dose analysis,it has been confirmed that the multi-layer space shield is effective in cosmic radiation shielding compared to conventional space structures.

Endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) is a highly refined technique compared to conventional endoscopic mucosal *** enables complete resection of early gastric cancer(EGC) which has no possibility of lymph node *** for ESD of EGC generally entails early gastric cancer confined to the mucosa with well differentiated histology,though there are clinically suitable expanded *** ESD requires specific skill and expertise,endoscopists need to be familiarized with basic methods and the use of special *** essence of the technique is to dissect the submucosal layer with direct vision and maintain thecutting plane above the underlying proper muscle *** there are some differences in the detailed technical aspect,the cardinal method of ESD is now well established and ***,research and development of new ESD devices that render more efficient,safe ESD are still in progress to improve the overall result of ESD on early gastric cancer.

Aim:To observe neuroprotective effects of raw and roasted licorice against hy-poxia and ischemic ***:When elucidating the protective effects ofraw and roasted licorice,we analyzed the lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) releaseusing PC12 cells after hypoxia in an in vitro study and after transient forebrainischemia in an in vivo study on Mongolian ***:Raw and roastedlicorice significantly reduced LDH release from PC12 cells exposed to an hypoxicchamber for *** the roasted licorice-treated group,the decrease of LDH releasewas more pronounced compared to that of the raw licorice-treated *** licorice-treated animals,approximately 66%-71% of CA1 pyramidal cellsin the ischemic hippocampus were stained with cresyl violet compared to thecontrol ***,in the raw licorice-treated animals,no significantneuroprotection against ischemic damage was *** addition,ischemic ani-mals in roasted licorice-treated group maintained the Cu,Zn-superoxide dismutase(SOD1) activity and protein levels compared to the control group,while in rawlicorice-treated group SOD1 activity and protein levels were reduced *** pressure liquid chromatography analysis showed that non-polar compoundscontaining glycyrrhizin-degraded products,such as glycyrrhetinic acid (GA) andglycyrrhetinic acid monoglucuronide (GM),were increased in roasted ***:Roasted licorice had neuroprotective effects against ischemic dam-age by maintaining the SOD1 *** addition,the difference in protectiveability between raw and roasted licorice may be associated with non-polarcompounds,such as GA and GM.

AIM: To study the distributions and frequencies of intestinal endocrine cells in the C57BL/6 mouse with immunohistochemical method using seven types of specific antisera against chromogranin A (CGA), serotonin,somatostatin, glucagons, gastrin, cholecystokinin (CCK)-8 and human pancreatic polypeptide (hPP) after abdominal subcutaneous implantation of murine lung carcinoma (3LL).METHODS: The experimental animals were divided into two groups, one is non-implanted Sham and the other is 3LL-implanted group. Samples were collected from six regions of intestinal tract at 28th d after implantation of 3LL cells (1×105 cell/mouse).RESULTS: In this study, five types of immunoreactive (IR) cells were identified except for gastrin and hPP. The regional distributions of the intestinal endocrine cells in the 3LL-implanted group were similar to those of the non-implanted Sham. However, significant decreases of IR cells were detected in 3LL-implanted group compared to those of non-implanted Sham. CGA- and serotonin-IR cells significantly decreased in 3LL-implanted groups compared to that of non-implanted Sham. Somatostatin-IR cells in the jejunum and ileum and CCK-8-IR cells in the jejunum of 3LL-implanted groups significantly decreased compared to that of non-implanted Sham. In addition,glucagon-IR cells were restricted to the ileum and colon of non-implanted ***: Implantation of tumor cell mass (3LL)induced severe quantifiable changes of intestinal endocrine cell density and the abnormality in density of intestinal endocrine cells may contribute to the development of gastrointestinal symptoms such as anorexia and indigestion, frequently encountered in patients with cancer.

Glucose metabolism and neurogenesis in the gerbil hippocampus after transient forebrain ischemia

Recent evidence exists that glucose transporter 3（GLUT3） plays an important role in the energy metabolism in the *** previous studies have been conducted using focal or hypoxic ischemia models and have focused on changes in GLUT3 expression based on protein and m RNA levels rather than tissue *** the present study,we observed change in GLUT3 immunoreactivity in the adult gerbil hippocampus at various time points after 5 minutes of transient forebrain *** the sham-operated group,GLUT3 immunoreactivity in the hippocampal CA1 region was weak,in the pyramidal cells of the CA1 region increased in a time-dependent fashion 24 hours after ischemia,and in the hippocampal CA1 region decreased significantly between 2 and 5 days after ischemia,with high level of GLUT3 immunoreactivity observed in the CA1 region 10 days after *** a double immunofluorescence study using GLUT3 and glial-fibrillary acidic protein（GFAP）,we observed strong GLUT3 immunoreactivity in the ***3 immunoreactivity increased after ischemia and peaked 7 days in the dentate gyrus after ischemia/*** a double immunofluorescence study using GLUT3 and doublecortin（DCX）,we observed low level of GLUT3 immunoreactivity in the differentiated neuroblasts of the subgranular zone of the dentate gyrus after ***3 immunoreactivity in the sham-operated group was mainly detected in the subgranular zone of the dentate *** results suggest that the increase in GLUT3 immunoreactivity may be a compensatory mechanism to modulate glucose level in the hippocampal CA1 region and to promote adult neurogenesis in the dentate gyrus.

In many IIoT architectures,various devices connect to the edge cloud via gateway *** data processing,numerous data are delivered to the edge *** data to an appropriate edge cloud is critical to improve IIoT service *** are two types of costs for this kind of IoT network:a communication cost and a computing *** service efficiency,the communication cost of data transmission should be minimized,and the computing cost in the edge cloud should be also ***,in this paper,the communication cost for data transmission is defined as the delay factor,and the computing cost in the edge cloud is defined as the waiting time of the computing *** proposed method selects an edge cloud that minimizes the total cost of the communication and computing *** is,a device chooses a routing path to the selected edge cloud based on the *** proposed method controls the data flows in a mesh-structured network and appropriately distributes the data processing *** performance of the proposed method is validated through extensive computer *** the transition probability from good to bad is 0.3 and the transition probability from bad to good is 0.7 in wireless and edge cloud states,the proposed method reduced both the average delay and the service pause counts to about 25%of the existing method.
