Status and trends in the stability of the three largest ice shelves in Antarctica

The ross,Filchner-Ronne,and Amery ice shelves are the three largest ice shelves in Antarctica,playing a crucial role in supporting the Antarctic ice ***,current studies on the stability of the three largest ice shelves primarily focus on singular or limited factors,lacking a comprehensive assessment of multiple *** systematically and in-depth study the stability and trend of the three largest ice shelves,we comprehensively collected and analyzed key parameters,including elevation changes,basal melting,surface meltwater,major rifts propagation rate,suture zones,ice front area change rate,grounding lines,ice velocity,and mass ***,we selected the collapsed Larsen B Ice Shelf(LBIS),the rapidly changing and structurally weakened Pine Island Ice Shelf(PIIS),and the accelerating Totten Ice Shelf(TIS)as reference ice *** comparing and analyzing the key parameters between these reference ice shelves and the three largest ice shelves,we find the status and trends in the stability of the *** findings reveal that most key parameters of the three largest ice shelves present relatively minor variations compared to those of the reference ice ***,50%of the parameters are smaller than those of the accelerating TIS,88%are smaller than those of the rapidly changing PIIS,and all parameters are smaller than those of the collapsed ***,after analyzing parameters that are not smaller than those of the TIS,it is observed that they remain in a stable ***,the three largest ice shelves are currently undergoing natural changes that do not threaten their stability in the short ***,the evolution of the ice shelves under global climate change remains uncertain,making long-term observation and monitoring essential to assess their impact on sea level rise.

Thickening-upward cycles in deep-marine and deep-lacustrine turbidite lobes:examples from the Clare Basin and the Ordos Basin

Deep-marine and deep-lacustrine reservoirs have been targets for conventional and unconventional oil and gas exploration and development for decades. Thickening-upward cycles in the deep-marine Carboniferous ross Sandstone Formation outcrops in western Ireland and the deep-lacustrine Triassic Yanchang Formation outcrops in southeast Ordos Basin have been investigated and correlated in this study. Typical thickening-upward cycles consisting of, from bottom to top:(1) laminated shales/shales with interbedded siltstone beds;(2) interbedded sandstones/siltstones and mudstones;(3) structureless massive sandstones, are well recognized in these outcrops and are interpreted as turbidite lobes. A continuously prograding lobe-element model is proposed to explain the repeated stacking of thickening-upward cycles. Thickening-upward cycles developed within deep-marine and deeplacustrine environments are highly comparable in many aspects, such as sedimentary structures, sheet-like geometries and amalgamation features. A frequent and strong degree of amalgamation is developed within the massive sandstone at the top of each thickening-upward cycle, suggesting a layer-by-layer depositional *** observations and comparison with deep-marine counterparts support the occurrence of turbidity flows in the Yanchang Formation, Ordos Basin.

Energy loss caused by shielding effect of steel cage outside source tube

The energy loss, produced by shielding effect of steel cage outside the source tube, is quite considerable. With PENELOPE software package, MC results have been obtained based on the simulation of different source con- formations. The result illustrates that the naked source tubes can improve the utilization ratio of the cobalt facilities. It demonstrates the applied value of the naked source tube in engineering.

The role of supplemental glycine in establishing a subclinical necrotic enteritis challenge model in broiler chickens

Subclinical necrotic enteritis(NE) is an economically important disease in the broiler industry. With the move towards removal of antibiotics from feeds, solutions to control subclinical NE are desperately being sought. Dietary glycine has been shown to promote proliferation of Clostridium perfringens(Cp) and may thus be useful to include in a NE challenge model. A study was conducted to evaluate the effect of increased dietary glycine levels on subclinical NE. A 2 × 2 × 2 factorial arrangement of treatments was carried out using day-old male ross 308 chicks(n = 624) allocated to 48 floor pens with 8 treatments of 6 replicates with 11 birds per treatment. Factors were: Cp challenge(C-or C+), Eimeria spp. challenge(Eor E+), and dietary glycine in the grower diet(0 or 10 g/kg). Birds had higher FCR when challenged with Eimeria(P < 0.01) or Cp(P < 0.05) on d 24 or Cp on d 35 but FCR was lower when fed glycine on d 24(P < 0.01). Supplementation of glycine reduced feed intake on d 24 and increased weight gain on d 35(P < 0.05). A Cp × Eimeria × glycine interaction(P < 0.05) showed a higher jejunal lesion scores in birds challenged with a combination of Cp and glycine compared with those with Eimeria and glycine or the unchallenged birds. Lesion score interactions between Cp and glycine(P < 0.05) in the ileum and Cp and Eimeria in the duodenum(P < 0.05) and ileum(P < 0.05) illustrated higher lesion scores in birds challenged with Cp without Eimeria or glycine compared to those not challenged with Cp. This study suggests that using glycine can partially replace Eimeria in a subclinical NE challenge model in promoting the intestinal lesions but not impairing chicken performance.

As a critical component of coherent X-ray diffraction imaging(CDI),phase retrieval has been extensively applied in X-ray structural science to recover the 3D morphological information inside measured *** meeting all the oversampling requirements of Sayre and Shannon,current phase retrieval approaches still have trouble achieving a unique inversion of experimental data in the presence of ***,we propose to overcome this limitation by incorporating a 3D Machine Learning(ML)model combining(optional)supervised learning with transfer *** trained ML model can rapidly provide an immediate result with high accuracy which could benefit real-time experiments,and the predicted result can be further refined with transfer *** significantly,the proposed ML model can be used without any prior training to learn the missing phases of an image based on minimization of an appropriate‘loss function’*** demonstrate significantly improved performance with experimental Bragg CDI data over traditional iterative phase retrieval algorithms.

Role of dietary gamma-aminobutyric acid in broiler chickens raised under high stocking density

The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary gamma-aminobutyric acid(GABA)in broiler chickens raised in high stocking density(HSD)on performance and physiological responses.A total of 900 male broiler chicks(ross 308)at 1 d old were assigned in a 2×2 factorial arrangement to 4 treatments(10 replicates per treatment)with stocking density,7.5 birds/m^2(low stocking density;LSD)or 15 birds/m^2(HSD),and dietary GABA,0 or 100 mg/*** raised in HSD exhibited a decrease in body weight gain in all phases(Pid not affect growth performance nor interacted with stocking density on production *** HSD *** increased relative liver weight on d 35 whereas dietary GABA increased relative liver weight and decreased relative bursa weight on d *** stocking density and dietary GABA affected yield and quality of breast and leg *** GABA increased(Pidth of tibia on d 35 and interacted(P=0.054)with stocking density on breaking stocking density on d *** HSD *** group lowered(Pids depending on stocking density leading to a moderate to significant *** density decreased alpha-1-acid glycoprotein whereas dietary GABA decreased heterophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and corticosterone in blood or serum *** biochemical parameters were altered by stocking density or dietary *** is concluded that dietary GABA alleviated stress indices including corticosterone and heterophilto-lymphocyte ratio,but failed to reverse stocking density-induced growth depression.

Background:Zoonotic schistosomiasis,caused by Schistosoma japonicum,remains a major public health problem in the *** study aimed to evaluate the commercially available rapid diagnostic point-of-care circulating cathodic antigen(POC-CCA)test in detecting individuals infected with *** in a human cohort from an endemic area for schistosomiasis japonica in the ***:Clinical samples were collectedin 18 barangays endemic for *** infection in Laoang and Palapag municipalities,Northern Samar,the Philippines,in *** presence of CCA in flter-concentrated urine samples(n=412)was evaluated using the commercial kits and the results were converted to images,which were further analyzed by ImageJ software to calculate R *** diagnostic performance of the immunochromatographic POCCCA test was compared using the Kato-Katz(KK)procedure,in-house enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays(ELISAs)and droplet digital(dd)PCR assays as ***:The POC-CCA test was able to detect ***-infected individuals in the cohort with an eggs per gram of faeces(EPG)more than or equal to 10 with sensitivity/specifcity values of 63.3%/93.3%.However,the assay showed an inability to diagnose schistosomiasis japonica infections in all cohort KK-positive individuals,of which the majority had an extremely low egg burden(EPG:1–9).The prevalence of *** infection in the total cohort determined by the POC-CCA test was 12.4%,only half of that determined by the KK method(26.2%).When compared with the ELISAs and ddPCR assays as a reference,the POC-CCA assay was further shown to be a test with low ***,the assay exhibited signifcant positive correlations with egg burden determined by the KK technique and the target gene copy number index values determined by the ddPCR assays within the entire ***:By using in silico image analysis,the POC-CCA cassette test could be converted to a quantitative assay to avoid reader
