Health risks of pest control and disinfection workers after the COVid-19 outbreak in South Korea

The exposure patterns of pest control and disinfection workers have changed after the coronavirus disease 2019(COVid-19)outbreak,but the health risks of chemical exposure have not been *** identified these workers’chemical exposure patterns and risks before and after the COVid-19 *** used data conducted between 2018(pre-pandemic)and 2021(post-pandemic)from three-year cross-sectional surveys on pest control and disinfection *** and dermal exposure concentrations were estimated using equations based on a biocidal product risk assessment model from the Korean National Institute of Environmental *** non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic risks of chemicals were calculated using the United States Environmental Protection Agency risk assessment *** found that the annual work frequency(50^(th)percentile)of foggers using disinfectants increased the most among all the work types,from 140 uses/year to 176 uses/year after the COVid-19 ***,all chemicals’non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic risks increased regardless of exposure *** the worst scenario(95^(th)percentile),the margin of exposure for citric acid,benzethonium chloride,benzyl-C12-16-alkyldimethyl chlorides,and sodium chlorite of inhalation exposure,and isopropyl alcohol and benzyl-C12-16-alkyldimethyl chlorides of dermal exposure were acceptable(>100)before the COVid-19outbreak but became unacceptable(id-19 *** risks of dichlorvos from inhalation and dermal exposure were above acceptable levels(>10^(-6))before and after the COVid-19 outbreak but comparatively high after the COVid-19 ***,significantly more workers experienced health symptoms after the COVid-19outbreak(p<0.05),with the most common being muscle lethargy(31%),skin/face stinging(28.7%),and breath shortness/neck pain(24.1%).

The precise synthesis of helicenes with topologically defined length and specific heteroatomic perturbation in the screw-like conjugated skeletons plays an emerging role in the manipulation of chiral ***,selective,and programmable routes to helicenes or heterohelicenes are highly desirable yet challenging for structure-chiroptical property relationship ***,we report the synthesis and characterization of NBN-doped helicenes with boron atoms in the inner rims,enabled by the highly regioselective one-pot borylation of rationally designed precursors with,namely,fold-in or pan-out *** incorporation of nonbonded boron and nitrogen atoms resulted in narrow-band emission and improved optical properties for the single-stranded carbon *** addition,numbers and arrangement modes of fused six-membered rings have distinct effects on configurational stability and chiroptical properties,revealing that BN-[6]H with strong circular dichroism is a promising candidate for chiral *** combination of experimental and theoretical studies on these helical structures might provide insights into the design of helically chiral small-molecule-based sensors or emitters.

The Weather Research and Forecasting model coupled with Chemistry(WRF-Chem),a type of online coupled chemistry-meteorology model(CCMM),considers the interaction between air quality and meteorology to improve air quality *** data assimilation(da)can be used to reduce uncertainty in meteorological field,which is one factor causing prediction uncertainty in the *** this study,WRF-Chem and three-dimensional variational da were used to examine the impact of meteorological da on air quality and meteorological forecasts over the Korean *** nesting model domains were configured over East Asia(outer domain)and the Korean Peninsula(inner domain).Three experiments were conducted by using different da domains to determine the optimal model domain for the meteorological *** the meteorological da was performed in the outer domain or both the outer and inner domains,the root-mean-square error(RMSE),bias of the predicted particulate matter(PM)concentrations,and the RMSE of predicted meteorological variables against the observations were smaller than those in the experiment where the meteorological da was performed only in the inner *** indicates that the improvement of the synoptic meteorological fields by da in the outer domain enhanced the meteorological initial and boundary conditions for the inner domain,subsequently improving air quality and meteorological *** to the experiment without meteorological da,the RMSE and bias of the meteorological and PM variables were smaller in the experiments with *** effect of meteorological da on the improvement of PM predictions lasted for approximately 58-66 h,depending on the ***,the uncertainty reduction in the meteorological initial condition by the meteorological da contributed to a reduction of the forecast errors of both meteorology and air quality.

BACKGROUND In rhinoplasty,calcification around silicone implants is frequently observed in the tip dorsum(TD)***,based on a review of various literature,it is presumed that calcification in silicone implants occurs due to both inflammatory chemical reactions and physical friction against the *** calcification of nasal silicone implants not only results in the functional loss of the implants,but also leads to material ***,there is a lack of research on calcification of nasal silicone implants in the current *** To elucidate various clinical characteristics of calcification around nasal silicone implants,using histological and radiological *** This study analyzed data from 16 patients of calcified nasal implants,who underwent revision rhinoplasty for various reasons after undergoing augmentation rhinoplasty with silicone *** collected data included information on implant duration,implant types,location of calcification,presence of inflammatory reactions,and computed tomography(CT)*** The most common location of calcification,as visually analyzed,was in the TD area,accounting for 56%.Additionally,the analysis of CT scans revealed a trend of increasing Hounsfield Unit values for calcification with the duration of implantation,although this trend was not statistically significant(P=0.139).CONCLUSION Our study shows that reducing the frequency of calcification may be achievable by using softer silicone implants and by minimizing the damage to perioperative tissues.

Bremsstrahlung—the spontaneous emission of broadband radiation from free electrons that are deflected by atomic nuclei—contributes to the majority of X-rays emitted from X-ray tubes and used in applications ranging from medical imaging to semiconductor chip ***,we show that the bremsstrahlung intensity can be enhanced significantly—by more than three orders of magnitude—through shaping the electron wavefunction to periodically overlap with atoms in crystalline ***,we show how to shape the bremsstrahlung X-ray emission pattern into arbitrary angular emission profiles for purposes such as unidirectionality and ***,we find that these enhancements and shaped emission profiles cannot be attributed solely to the spatial overlap between the electron probability distribution and the atomic centers,as predicted by the paraxial and nonrecoil theory for free electron light *** work highlights an unprecedented regime of free electron light emission where electron waveshaping provides multi-dimensional control over practical radiation processes like *** results pave the way towards greater versatility in table-top X-ray sources and improved fundamental understanding of quantum electron-light interactions.

BACKGROUND Craniofacial necrotizing fasciitis(CNF)is an uncommon but fatal infection that can spread rapidly through the subfascial planes in the head and neck *** usually progress rapidly,and early management is necessary to optimize *** SUMMARY A 43-year-old man visited our hospital with left hemifacial swelling involving the buccal and submandibular *** patient had fever for approximately 10 d before visiting the hospital,but did not report any other systemic *** tomography scan demonstrated an abscess with gas *** surgical drainage of the facial abscess,the patient’s systemic condition worsened and progressed to septic *** examination revealed pulmonary and renal *** percutaneous catheter drainage was performed at the renal abscess site,which caused improvement of *** patient showed no evidence of systemic complications during the 4-mo post-operative follow-up *** As the patient did not improve with conventional CNF treatment and symptoms only resolved after controlling the infection,the final diagnosis was secondary CNF with septic *** surgical decompression is important for CNF ***,if symptoms worsen despite early diagnosis and management,such as pus drainage and surgical intervention,clinicians should consider the possibility of a secondary abscess from internal organs.

Subcellular organelles in eukaryotes are surrounded by lipid *** an endomembrane system,vesicle trafficking is the primary mechanism for the delivery of organellar proteins to specific ***,organellar proteins for chloroplasts,mitochondria,the nucleus,and peroxisomes that are translated in the cytosol are directly imported into their target *** are a plant-specific organelle with outer and inner envelope membranes,a dual-membrane structure that is similar to *** chloroplast proteins translated by cytosolic ribosomes are thus translocated through TOC and TIC complexes(translocons in the outer and inner envelope of chloroplasts,respectively),with stromal ATPase motor proteins playing a critical role in pulling pre-proteins through these import *** the last three decades,the identity and function of TOC/TIC components and stromal motor proteins have been actively investigated,which has shed light on the action mechanisms at a molecular ***,there remains some disagreement over the exact composition of TIC complexes and genuine stromal motor *** this review,we discuss recent findings on the mechanisms by which proteins are translocated through TOC/TIC complexes and discuss future prospects for this field of research.
