The assembly of thin films （TFs） having long-lasting luminescence can be expected to play an important role in the development of new-generation smart sensors, anti-counterfeiting materials, and information-encryption systems. However, such films are limited compared with their powder and solution counterparts. In this study, by exploiting the self-organization of phosphors in the two-dimensional （2D） galleries between clay nanosheets, we developed a method for the ordered assembly of long-afterglow TFs by utilizing a hydrogen-bonding layer-by-layer （LBL） process. Compared with the pristine powder, the TFs exhibit high polarization and up-conversion room-temperature phosphorescence （RTP）, as well as enhanced quantum yields and luminescence lifetimes, allowing them to be used as room-temperature phosphorescent sensors for humidity and oxygen. Moreover, modified clay-based hybrids with multicolor RTP can serve as anti-counterfeiting marks and triple-mode 2D barcode displays. We anticipate that the LBL assembly process can be extended to the fabrication of other inorganic--organic room-temperature phosphorescent hybrids with smart luminescent sensor and antiforgery applications.

A Timescale Decomposed Threshold Regression Downscaling Approach to Forecasting South China Early Summer Rainfall

A timescale decomposed threshold regression （TSDTR） downscaling approach to forecasting South China early summer rainfall （SCESR） is described by using long-term observed station rainfall data and NOAA ERSST data. It makes use of two distinct regression downscaling models corresponding to the interannual and interdecadal rainfall variability of SCESR. The two models are developed based on the partial least squares （PLS） regression technique, linking SCESR to SST modes in preceding months on both interannual and interdecadal timescales. Specifically, using the datasets in the calibration period 1915-84, the variability of SCESR and SST are decomposed into interannual and interdecadal components. On the interannual timescale, a threshold PLS regression model is fitted to interannual components of SCESR and March SST patterns by taking account of the modulation of negative and positive phases of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation （PDO）. On the interdecadal timescale, a standard PLS regression model is fitted to the relationship between SCESR and preceding November SST patterns. The total rainfall prediction is obtained by the sum of the outputs from both the interannual and interdecadal models. Results show that the TSDTR downscaling approach achieves reasonable skill in predicting the observed rainfall in the validation period 1985-2006, compared to other simpler approaches. This study suggests that the TSDTR approach, considering different interannual SCESR-SST relationships under the modulation of PDO phases, as well as the interdecadal variability of SCESR associated with SST patterns, may provide a new perspective to improve climate predictions.

BACKGROUND: Ischemic preconditioning (IPC) is a strategy to reduce ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury. The protective effect of remote ischemic preconditioning (RIPC) on liver I/R injury is not clear. This study aimed to investigate the roles of RIPC in liver I/R in fatty liver rats and the involvement of endothelial nitric oxide synthase-nitric oxide (eNOS-NO) pathway and microRNA expressions in this process. METHODS: A total of 32 fatty rats were randomly divided into the sham group, I/R group, RIPC group and RIPC+I/R group. Serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and nitric oxide (NO) were measured. Hematoxylin-eosin staining was used to observe histological changes of liver tissues, TUNEL to detect hepatocyte apoptosis, and immunohistochemistry assay to detect heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) expression. Western blotting was used to detect liver inducible NOS (iNOS) and eNOS protein levels and realtime quantitative polymerase chain reaction to detect miR-34a, miR-122 and miR-27b expressions. RESULTS: Compared with the sham and RIPC groups, serum ALT, AST and iNOS in liver tissue were significantly higher in other two groups, while serum NO and eNOS in liver tissue were lower, and varying degrees of edema, degeneration and inflammatory cell infiltration were found. Cell apoptosis number was slightly lower in the RIPC+I/R group than that in I/R group. Compared with the sham group, HSP70 expressions were significantly increased in other three groups (all P<0.05). Compared with the sham and RIPC groups, elevated miR-34a expressions were found in I/R and RIPC+I/R groups (P<0.05). MiR-122 and miR-27b were found significantly decreased in I/R and RIPC+I/R groups compared with the sham and RIPC groups (all P<0.05). CONCLUSION: RIPC can reduce fatty liver I/R injury by affecting the eNOS-NO pathway and liver microRNA expressions.

Experimental and Computational Investigations on Severe Slugging in A Catenary Riser

Severe slugging can occur in a pipeline-riser system at relatively low liquid and gas flow rates during gas-oil transportation, possibly causing unexpected damage to the production facilities. Experiments with air and water are conducted in a horizontal and downward inclined pipeline followed by a catenary riser in order to investigate the mechanism and characteristics of severe slugging. A theoretical model is introduced to compare with the experiments. The results show that the formation mechanism of severe slugging in a catenary riser is different from that in a vertical riser due to the riser geometry and five flow patterns are obtained and analyzed. A gas-liquid mixture slug stage is observed at the beginning of one cycle of severe slugging, which is seldom noticed in previous studies. Based on both experiments and computations, the time period and variation of pressure amplitude of severe slugging are found closely related to the superficial gas velocity, implying that the gas velocity significantly influences the flow patterns in our experiments. Moreover, good agreements between the experimental data and the numerical results are shown in the stability curve and flow regime map, which can be a possible reference for design in an offshore oil-production system.

Numerous studies support that biodiversity predict most to ecosystem functioning,but whether other factors display a more significant direct impact on ecosystem functioning than biodiversity remains to be *** investigated 398 samples of the phytoplankton phosphorus resource use efficiency(RUE_(P)=chlorophyll-a concentration/dissolved phosphate)across two seasons in nine plateau lakes in yunnan Province,*** identified the main contributors to phytoplankton RUEP and analyzed their potential influences on RUEP at different lake trophic *** results showed that total nitrogen(TN)contributed the most to RUEP among the nine lakes,whereas community turnover(measured as community dissimilarity)explained the most to RUEP variation across the two ***,TN also influenced RUEP by affecting *** richness(SR),functional attribute diversity(FAD2),and dendrogram-based functional diversity(FDc)were positively correlated with RUEP in both seasons,while evenness was negatively correlated with RUEP at the end of the rainy *** also found that the effects of biodiversity and turnover on RUEP depended on the lake trophic *** and FAD2 were positively correlated with RUEP in all three trophic *** showed a negative correlation with RUEP at the eutrophic and oligotrophic levels,but a positive correlation at themesotrophic *** had a negative influence on RUEP at the eutrophic level,but a positive influence at the mesotrophic and oligotrophic ***,our results suggested that multiple factors and nutrient states need to be considered when the ecosystem functioning predictors and the biodiversityecosystem functioning relationships are investigated.

A Methodology for Reliability of WSN Based on Software Defined Network in Adaptive Industrial Environment

As communication technology and smart manufacturing have developed, the industrial internet of things(IIo T)has gained considerable attention from academia and *** sensor networks(WSNs) have many advantages with broad applications in many areas including environmental monitoring, which makes it a very important part of IIo T. However,energy depletion and hardware malfunctions can lead to node failures in WSNs. The industrial environment can also impact the wireless channel transmission, leading to network reliability problems, even with tightly coupled control and data planes in traditional networks, which obviously also enhances network management cost and complexity. In this paper, we introduce a new software defined network(SDN), and modify this network to propose a framework called the improved software defined wireless sensor network(improved SD-WSN). This proposed framework can address the following issues. 1) For a large scale heterogeneous network, it solves the problem of network management and smooth merging of a WSN into IIo T. 2) The network coverage problem is solved which improves the network reliability. 3) The framework addresses node failure due to various problems, particularly related to energy ***, it is necessary to improve the reliability of wireless sensor networks, by developing certain schemes to reduce energy consumption and the delay time of network nodes under IIo T conditions. Experiments have shown that the improved approach significantly reduces the energy consumption of nodes and the delay time, thus improving the reliability of WSN.

Dōng líng căo,the dried aboveground parts of Isodon rubescens(Hemls.)Hara.,is commonly consumed as a med-icinal decoction or tea *** beverages can be an important source of human dietary selenium(Se).However,how *** plants respond to exogenous Se remains *** this study,a pot cultivation experiment was employed to investigate the phenotypic and physiological responses of *** plants exposed to *** days after applying different concentrations of sodium selenate to the soil,the Se enrichment capa-city,growth indices,antioxidant capacities,and the content ofﬂavonoids and diterpenoids were measured in the ***,the oridonin content was quantiﬁed using the high-performance liquid chromatography method,and the expression levels of key diterpenoid synthesis genes were analyzed by quantitative real-time PCR(qRT-PCR).*** plants efﬁciently accumulated Se,with the Se content increasing proportionally to the applied dose,reaching levels of nearly 200 mg·kg^(-1) dry leaves as Se concentration *** of the three Se treat-ments signiﬁcantly altered the phenotypic indices,except a longer root length occurred in the 3μM·kg^(-1) Se *** three Se doses,6μM·kg^(-1) Se gave the highest accumulation ofﬂavonoids,diterpenoids,and oridonin,with the increase of 2.0-,1.8-,and 1.9-fold in aboveground parts,*** application boosted the activities of antioxidant enzymes and antioxidant capacities according to 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH),ferric reducing/antioxidant power,and tea brewing color *** key synthase genes were upregulated signiﬁcantly by 6μM·kg^(-1) Se treatment,notably 1-deoxy-D-xylulose 5-phosphate reductoisomerase(IrDXR),with a 5-fold increase,and kaurene synthase-like 4(IrKSL4),with a 6-fold ***,Se application in *** cultivation may be a potential biofortiﬁcation method to supplement Se while increasingﬂavonoid and diterpenoid contents.

Background: Cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury(CIRI) refers to a secondary brain injury that can occur when the blood supply to the ischemic brain tissue is restored. However, the mechanism underlying such injury remains ***: The 150 male C57 mice underwent middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAO) for 1 h and reperfusion for 24 h,Among them, 50 MCAO mice were further treated with Mitochondrial division inhibitor 1(Mdivi-1) and 50 MCAO mice were further treated with N-acetylcysteine(NAC). AIM: To observe the effect on multifocal electroretinogram (mfERG) in persistently elevated intraocular pressure (TOP) by erigeron breviscapus extract (also named Dengzhanhua in Chinese) in rat models. METHODS: The rat models with persistently elevated TOP were established by the method of Akira. Then, erigeron breviscapus extract was given for one month to observe the effect on mfERG in persistently elevated TOP in rats. RESULTS: As elevated TOP went on, the mfERG changes were mainly in weaken of reaction density with progressive development. After intervention of erigeron breviscapus extract, the total peak latency of 131 wave had recovered to some extent and the difference was significant when compared with control group (P <0.05); the total response density and P1 wave response density in second circle had risen noticeably, which had significant differences than those of control group (P <0.05). CONCLUSION: Erigeron breviscapus extract can improve the impaired visual function of persistently elevated TOP in rats, suggesting that this extract is the effective part of erigeron breviscapus for optic neuroprotection.

Sea surface temperature anomaly in the tropical North Atlantic during El Nino decaying years

Based on reanalysis data from 1979 to 2016,this study focuses on the sea surface temperature(SST)anomaly of the tropical North Atlantic(TNA)in El Nino decaying *** TNA SST exhibits a clear warm trend during this *** composite result for 10 El Nino events shows that the TNA SST anomaly reaches its maximum in spring after the peak of an El Nino event and persists until *** general,the anomaly is associated with three factors-namely,El Nino,the North Atlantic Oscillation(NAO),and a long-term trend,leading to an increase in local SST up to 0.4℃,0.3℃,and 0.35℃,respectively.A comparison between 1983 and 2005 indicates that the TNA SST in spring is affected by El Niño,as well as the local SST in the preceding winter,which may involve a long-term trend *** addition,the lead-lag correlation shows that the NAO leads the TNA SST by 2-3 *** comparing two years with an opposite phase of the NAO in winter(i.e.,1992 and 2010),the authors further demonstrate that the NAO is another important factor in regulating the TNA SST anomaly.A negative phase of the NAO in winter will reinforce the El Nino forcing substantially,and vise *** other words,the TNA SST anomaly in the decaying years is more evident if the NAO is negative with El ***,the combined effects of El Nino and the NAO must be considered in order to fully understand the TNA SST variability along with a long-term trend.
