BACKGROUNd delayed union,malunion,and nonunion are serious complications in the healing of *** the risk of nonunion before or after surgery is *** To compare the most prevalent predictive scores of nonunion used in clinical practice to determine the most accurate score for predicting *** We collected data from patients with tibial shaft fractures undergoing surgery from January 2016 to december 2020 in three different trauma *** this retrospective multicenter study,we considered only fractures treated with intramedullary *** calculated the tibia FRACTure prediction healING days(FRACTING)score,Nonunion Risk determination score,and Leeds-Genoa Nonunion Index(LEG-NUI)score at the time of definitive *** Of the 130 patients enrolled,89(68.4%)healed within 9 months and were classified as *** remaining patients(n=41,31.5%)healed after more than 9 months or underwent other surgical procedures and were classified as *** calculation of the three scores,LEG-NUI and FRACTING were the most accurate at predicting *** LEG-NUI and FRACTING showed the best performances by accurately predicting union and nonunion.

Numerical Simulations of Wave Impact Forces on the Open-Type Sea Access Road Using A Two-Phase SPH Model

A numerical study based on a two-dimensional two-phase SPH(Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics) model to analyze the action of water waves on open-type sea access roads is presented. The study is a continuation of the analyses presented by Chen et al.(2022), in which the sea access roads are semi-immersed. In this new configuration, the sea access roads are placed above the still water level, therefore the presence of the air phase becomes a relevant issue in the determination of the wave forces acting on the structures. Indeed, the comparison of wave forces on the open-type sea access roads obtained from the single and two-phase SPH models with the experimental results shows that the latter are in much better agreement. So in the numerical simulations, a two-phase δ-SPH model is adopted to investigate the dynamical problems. Based on the numerical results, the maximum horizontal and uplifting wave forces acting on the sea access roads are analyzed by considering different wave conditions and geometries of the structures. In particular, the presence of the girder is analyzed and the differences in the wave forces due to the air cushion effects which are created below the structure are highlighted.

Therapy with glucagon-like peptide 1(GLP1)receptor agonists has raised great interest for its beneficial cardiovascular effects in preventing atherosclerosis and heart failure-related ***,while evidence about atherosclerosis consistently suggests a cardioprotective potential with class effect,controversies remain on its impact on heart ***1 receptor agonists appear to prevent hospitalization for new-onset heart failure and reduce symptoms in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction(as demonstrated by the recent STEP-HFpEF Trial).Still,GLP1 agonism has resulted in neutral or even harmful effects in patients with established heart failure with reduced ejection fraction(the LIVE trial).GLP1 receptor agonists benefit the cardiovascular system indirectly through their marked metabolic effects(improved weight management,glycemic control,blood pressure,systemic and tissue inflammation),while direct effects on the heart have been ***,weight loss alone achieved through GLP1 receptor agonists has failed in improving left ventricular *** is a dual agonist of GLP1 and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide,representing an innovative treatment option in diabetes with a major impact on weight loss and promising cardiovascular *** this class of therapies is going to change the history of heart failure is an ongoing debate.

In this article,we consider the numerical prediction of the noise emission from a wheelset in laboratory *** focus on the fluid-structure interaction leading to sound emission in the fluid domain by analyzing three different methods to account for acoustic *** are a discretized baffled piston using the discrete calculation method(dCM),a closed cylindrical volume using the boundary element method(BEM)and radiating elastic disks in a cubic enclosure solved with the finite element method(FEM).We provide the validation of the baffled piston and the BEM using measurements of the noise emission of a railway wheel by considering ground reflections in the numerical *** space-resolved waveforms are compared with experimental results as well as with a fluid-structure interaction finite element *** computational advantage of a discretized disk mounted on a baffle and BEM compared to FEM is highlighted,and the baffled pistons limitations caused by a lack of edge radiation effects are investigated.

BACKGROUNd Interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome(IC/BPS)is an at least 6-mo noninfectious bladder inflammation of unknown origin characterized by chronic suprapubic,abdominal,and/or pelvic *** the term cystitis suggests an inflammatory or infectious origin,no definite cause has been *** occurs in both sexes,but women are twice as much *** To systematically review evidence of psychiatric/psychological changes in persons with IC/*** Hypothesizing that particular psychological characteristics could underpin IC/BPS,we investigated in three databases the presence of psychiatric symptoms and/or disorders and/or psychological characteristics in patients with IC/BPS using the following strategy:("interstitial cystitis"OR"bladder pain syndrome")ANd("mood disorder"OR depressive OR antidepressant OR depression OR depressed OR hyperthymic OR mania OR manic OR rapid cyclasterisk OR dysthymiasterisk OR dysphoriasterisk).RESULTS On September 27,2023,the PubMed search produced 223 articles,CINAHL 62,and the combined PsycLIT/PsycARTICLES/PsycINFO/Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection search *** on *** produced 14 studies,of which none had available *** were peer-reviewed articles reporting psychiatric/psychological symptoms in patients with IC/BPS,i.e.63 articles spanning from 2000 to October *** studies identified depression and anxiety problems in the IC/BPS population,along with sleep problems and the tendency to *** Psychotherapies targeting catastrophizing and life stress emotional awareness and expression reduced perceived pain in women with IC/*** concepts should be considered when implementing treatments aimed at reducing IC/BPS-related pain.

A numerical study adopting the 2dδ-SPH model is performed to compare the hydrodynamic characteristics of a single pontoon floating breakwater and a double pontoon floating *** simulations are performed using theδ-SPH model and experimental tests are conducted to validate the numerical *** numerical results of both the free surface elevations and motions of the floating breakwater are in good agreement with the experimental *** results show that when the pontoon drafts are larger,the double pontoon floating breakwater performs better in wave attenuations compared with the single pontoon floating breakwater,and for all the drafts,the amplitudes of motions including sway,heave and roll of the double pontoon floating breakwater is always *** addition,increasing the spacing between the two pontoons can further reduce the amplitudes of pontoon motions and improve the wave attenuation ability of the double pontoon floating breakwater.
