The recent identification of homozygous WNT1 mutations in individuals with osteogenesis imperfecta type XV(OI-XV)has suggested that WNT1 is a key ligand promoting the differentiation and function of bone-forming *** such aninfluence was supported by subsequent studies,a mouse model of OI-XV remained to be ***,we introduced a previously identified disease-causing mutation(G177C)into the murine Wnt1 *** Wnt1^(G177C/G177C)mice were viable and did not display defects in brain development,but the majority of 24-week-old Wnt1^(G177C/G177C)mice had skeletal *** increased bone fragility was not fully explained by reduced bone mass but also by impaired bone matrix ***,the homozygous presence of the G177C mutation did not interfere with the osteoanabolic influence of either parathyroid hormone injection or activating mutation of LRP5,the latter mimicking the effect of sclerostin ***,transcriptomic analyses revealed that short-term administration of WNT1 to osteogenic cells induced not only the expression of canonical WNT signaling targets but also the expression of genes encoding extracellular matrix *** together,our data demonstrate that regulating bone matrix quality is a primary function of *** further suggest that individuals with WNT1 mutations should profit from existing osteoanabolic therapies.

Tamarix species are small trees that grow in various natural habitats and have a wide geographic *** species previously found on Tamarix and recently collected in Italy and Russia were identified based on morphological characters and analyses of gene sequence *** sexual morph of the coelomycetous genus Homortomyces was collected for the first time and is described and illustrated.A new family,Homortomycetaceae(Dothideomycetes,families incertae sedis)is introduced to accommodate *** new genera Neomicrosphaeropsis(Didymellaceae)and Tamaricicola(Pleosporaceae)are introduced in this *** tamaricicola was recollected and is placed in Neomicrosphaeropsis based on morphology and molecular *** new species,Cytospora italica,***,Diaporthe ravennica,Eutypella tamaricis,Neomicrosphaeropsis italica,***,***,Keissleriella tamaricicola,Paracamarosporium tamaricis and Tamaricicola muriformis are introduced,while Alternaria tenuissima,Dothiorella sarmentorum,Neofusicoccum luteum,Paraepicoccum amazonense,Pleospora herbarum and Pseudocamarosporium propinquum are reported for the first time on Tamarix *** descriptions and ***-gene analyses show that Paraepicoccum amazonense should be placed in Pleosporineae,Pleosporales,where it is closely related to Camarosporium sensu *** herbarium specimens were studied to illustrate other fungal species recorded on Tamarix species.A comprehensive account of microfungi on Tamarix is provided,which includes a list with data from the literature,as well as those identified in the present *** taxonomic placement of most taxa discussed in this study is based on a modern taxonomic framework based on analysis of multi-gene sequence data.

Intermittent injections of parathyroid hormone(iPTH) are applied clinically to stimulate bone formation by osteoblasts, although continuous elevation of parathyroid hormone(PTH) primarily results in increased bone resorption. Here, we identified Calca,encoding the sepsis biomarker procalcitonin(ProCT), as a novel target gene of PTH in murine osteoblasts that inhibits osteoclast formation. During iPTH treatment, mice lacking ProCT develop increased bone resorption with excessive osteoclast formation in both the long bones and axial skeleton. Mechanistically, ProCT inhibits the expression of key mediators involved in the recruitment of macrophages, representing osteoclast precursors. Accordingly, ProCT arrests macrophage migration and causes inhibition of early but not late osteoclastogenesis. In conclusion, our results reveal a potential role of osteoblast-derived ProCT in the bone microenvironment that is required to limit bone resorption during iPTH.

A mathematical model for the process of removal of aerosols from gases in channels filled with packing is considered. Equations for transport of aerosol particles and results of their numerical solution are given. Influence of operating conditions and of design characteristics of the packed apparatus on gas purification efficiency is analyzed.

The state of the art in optical biosensing is focused on reaching high sensitivity at a single wavelength by using any type of optical *** common strategy,however,disregards the promising possibility of simultaneous measurements of a bioanalyte’s refractive index over a broadband spectral ***,we address this issue by introducing the approach of in-fibre multispectral optical sensing(IMOS).The operating principle relies on detecting changes in the transmission of a hollow-core microstructured optical fibre when a bioanalyte is streamed through it via liquid *** offers a unique opportunity to measure the refractive index at 42 wavelengths,with a sensitivity up to ~3000 nm per refractive index unit(RIU)and a figure of merit reaching 99 RIU^(−1) in the visible and near-infra-red spectral *** apply this technique to determine the concentration and refractive index dispersion for bovine serum albumin and show that the accuracy meets clinical needs.

Mandibular Distraction Osteogenesis for the Treatment of an Obstructive Sleep Apnea Patient with Orthognathic Anomaly:A Case Report and Literature Review

Objective: skeletal advancement in order to improve the airway dimensions is known as one of the most effective surgical theraphy for treating obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Distraction osteogenesis (DO) can be a better treatment alternative in some selected cases similar to our patient. Using custom made distractors can make this technique more safe and successful. Study Design: Surgically assisted rapid palatal expansion (SARPE), bilateral intraoral mandibular distraction osteogenesis (MDO) and orthodontic treatment were tried to a 20-year-old OSA patient with orthognathic anomaly. For mandibular distraction, custom made distractors were used. Results: The initial AHI of the patient was 23.3. At the end of the treatment it decreased to 8.7. Conclusions: Distraction osteogenesis could be a better alternative than the conventional orthognathic surgery in this kind of selected patients. Customization of the distraction devices can contribute to making this procedure safer and more successful.

The Evaluation of Efficacy and Side Effects of Radiotherapy in Cerebral Meningiomas

Aims: The current study aimed to evaluate the efficacy, side effects of radiotherapy and factors influencing treatment outcome in patients received radiotherapy for cerebral meningiomas. Methods and Material: In the last two decades, a total of 35 patients with cerebral meningioma who received radiotherapy in our clinic were evaluated statistically in terms of survival, toxicity and prognostic factors. The records of patients diagnosed with cerebral meningioma who underwent postoperative radiotherapy were retrospectively analyzed. Statistical analysis used: Statistical comparisons were made using IBM SPSS v24.0. Kaplan-Meier method was used to compare survival times. Results: Five of the patients had grade I meningioma showing recurrence, 18 were grade II meningioma and 12 were grade III meningioma. Patients were treated with 54 or 60 Gy adjuvant radiotherapy with 2 Gy daily fractions according to histopathological grade and operation type. Three and five-year overall survival rates were 56% and 40%, respectively and median overall survival was 36 months. Progression was observed in 15 of the 35 patients included in the study. Three and five-year progression-free survival (PFS) rates of the patients were 56% and 50%, respectively. There was a statistically significant correlation between histopathological grade and overall survival among patients. However;no statistical difference found in overall survival of patients in terms of tumor location, operation type and age. Conclusions: In the treatment of cerebral meningiomas, changes in radiotherapy dose and field designs can be predicted according to the tumor grade and operation type. In addition, it is thought that large scale studies are needed to determine prognostic factors more meticulously.
