The main aims of the current study are to determine the morphological features of the periglacial landforms(non-sorted step,mud circle,stony earth circle,thufur,and congeliturbation)located on the Ilgaz Mountains,examine the physicochemical and mineralogical properties with pedological processes of the soils,and assess of the effects of climatic conditions controlling the development of *** Ilgaz Mountains(2587 m a.s.l.),located in the Western Black Sea Region,within the Anatolian Mountains,are important in terms of periglacial landforms(mud circles,stony earth circles,thufurs,non-sorted steps,non-sorted stripes,congeliturbation deposits,and block currents).The descriptive statistics of 123 periglacial landforms measured by fieldworks were *** distribution of freezing and thawing in the Ilgaz Mountains throughout the year was evaluated,and it was found that freezing takes place between December and March,freezing-thawing takes place in April,May,October and November,and thawing takes place between June and *** to soil properties,organic matter content changes from 1.88%to 12.72%in non-sorted step soils,while it is between 2.03%and 12.24%in stony earth circle *** organic matter is observed to be close to congeliturbation deposits at lower ratios compared to non-sorted steps,stony earth circles and mud *** soil reactions on stony earth circles and non-sorted steps vary between slightly acidic and slightly *** the other hand,soil samples taken from the mud circles are different from those taken from the non-sorted steps and stony earth *** soil reaction is acidic,and pH changes between 4.86 and *** lime content also varies between 2.81%and 32.08%,with an average of 12.02%.The texture properties of soils are dominantly loam and clay loam,as in the non-sorted steps,stony earth circles,and mud *** their mineralogical properties,the XRD study was carried out to determine the primer mineral

Electronic interactions of the Group 2A elements with magnesium have been studied through the dilute solid solutions in binary Mg-Ca,Mg-Sr and Mg-Ba *** investigation incorporated the difference in the‘Work Function'(ΔWF)measured via Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy(KPFM),as a property directly affected by interatomic bond types,*** electronic structure,nanoindentation measurements,and Stacking Fault Energy values reported in the *** was shown that the nano-hardness of the solid-solutionα-Mg phase changed in the order of Mg-Ca>Mg-Sr>***,it was shown,by also considering the nano-hardness levels,that SFE of a solid-solution is closely correlated with its‘Work Function'***-hardness measurements on the eutectics andΔWF difference between eutectic phases enabled an assessment of the relative bond strength and the pertinent electronic structures of the eutectics in the three *** withΔWF and at least qualitative verification of those computed SFE values with some experimental measurement techniques were considered important as those computational methods are based on zero Kelvin degree,relatively simple atomic models and a number of *** asserted by this investigation,if the results of measurement techniques can be qualitatively correlated with those of the computational methods,it can be possible to evaluate the electronic structures in alloys,starting from binary systems,going to ternary and then multi-elemental *** investigation has shown that such a qualitative correlation is *** all,the SFE values are not treated as absolute values but rather become essential in comparative investigations when assessing the influences of alloying elements at a fundamental level,that is,free electron density *** study indicated that the principles of‘electronic metallurgy'in developing multi-elemental alloy systems can be followed via practical experimental methods,i.e.ΔWF measurements using KPF

采用光化学反应研究了铜渣中Cu和Fe的溶解行为。实验采用石英玻璃夹套,在玻璃反应釜中间歇进行,在反应釜下埋入紫外线灯,并采用玻璃管作为送风装置。研究了不同波长UVA(365 nm)、UVB(311 nm)、UVC(254 nm)和真空UV光(185 nm)在浸出液中的行为。所有实验在相同条件下,在有和没有紫外线灯的情况下进行比较。研究了自由基形成机制对浸出环境的适应性及其在氧化溶液介质浸出中的可用性。在紫外光(185 nm)和非紫外光条件下,铜的提取率分别为85.1%和70.7%。综上所述,在紫外(185 nm)光反应器体系中,铜渣在最佳条件下的金属溶解率比无紫外光反应器体系效率更高。光化学反应器是使其适应湿法冶金应用和检验工艺的新途径。

Cholesterol and Sericin as First Aid for Damaged Cells

Cells are surrounded by a double-layered phospholipid cell membrane responsible for the isolation of intracellular contents, active regulation of uptake from the extracellular environment, and intercellular connection and communication. These cell membranes must be intact and functionally active for cell survival and biological functioning. Compromised damage repair mechanisms usually result in impaired cellular homeostasis, leading to early or late problems. Chronic myopathies, certain myocardial diseases, aging, and acute or chronic neurodegenerative diseases (like Parkinson and Alzheimer) are directly related to cell membrane damage. This study examined the effect of a cholesterol-loaded nanoparticle (methyl-beta cyclodextrin) or the silk protein sericin on cell membrane and DNA integrity and cell viability in an in vitro cell damage model (frozen-thawed rabbit sperm cells). The cells were stored in liquid nitrogen (-196°C), thawed in small batches, and treated with cholesterol-loaded cyclodextrin or sericin before incubation at 35°C for 4 hours. Cell membrane integrity, DNA damage, and viability rates were assessed immediately after thawing and after the incubation period. The administration of sericin and cholesterol in a cell damage model increased cell survival and reduced DNA damage over a 4-hour post-thaw incubation period, suggesting their potential use as a “first aid” intervention at the cellular level.

Optimization of selective copper extraction from chalcopyrite concentrate in presence of ammonium persulfate and ammonium hydroxide

The dissolution of copper and iron from chalcopyrite concentrate in the presence of ammonium persulfate(APS)and ammonium hydroxide was investigated under atmospheric leaching *** were designed by central composite design(CCD).Under the optimum leaching conditions((NH4)2S2O8 concentration=328 g/L;NH4OH addition=16vol%;leaching temperature=321 K(48℃);leaching time=120 min;liquid-to-solid ratio=16;stirring speed=400 r/min),selective leaching was achieved.98.14%of the copper was leached,whereas iron did not pass into the solution.X-ray diffraction analysis of the leaching residue showed that iron compounds were *** the leaching results,the fact that the leaching process does not include uneconomical leaching stages such as extended milling/mechanical activation or high pressures/temperatures,and the low copper dissolution conditions,the attained selective leaching yield may be remarkable.

Suppressing the ferroelectric switching barrier in hybrid improper ferroelectrics

Integration of ferroelectric materials into novel technological applications requires low coercive field materials,and consequently,design strategies to reduce the ferroelectric switching *** this first principles study,we show that biaxial strain,which has a strong effect on the ferroelectric ground states,can also be used to tune the switching barrier of hybrid improper ferroelectric Ruddlesden–Popper *** identify the region of the strain-tolerance factor phase diagram where this intrinsic barrier is suppressed,and show that it can be explained in relation to strain-induced phase transitions to nonpolar phases.

Unveiling the reaction products in heat treated Si3N4–Ti joined ceramics by transmission electron microscopy

Joining is a crucial process for the production of complex-shaped advanced engineering *** understanding of ceramic–metal interfaces during joining or following heat-treatment steps is therefore of important concern in designing the new *** discharge joining(CDJ)method was firstly carried out to compose the ceramic–metal joint material by silicon nitride(Si3N4)–titanium(Ti)***,heat treatment was performed on the Si3N4-Ti joints in air atmosphere at 1000℃temperature to reveal the interface reactions and *** layer that occurred between the Si3N4 and Ti interfaces and new phase formations were examined by transmission electron microscopy(TEM)-based various imaging and chemical analysis *** transparent samples for TEM characterization were prepared by focused ion beam(FIB)milling and lifting *** on the detailed TEM results,Si and N diffusion arising from the Si3N4 ceramic was observed towards Ti metal foil side and further interacted with Ti *** upshot of current diffusion was that Ti3N2 reaction layer with 50 nm thickness was formed at the interface while titanium silicon nitride(Ti6Si3N)matrix phase including dendritic-shaped Ti2 N grains occurred in the Ti *** is believed that our TEM-based microscopy results not only provide the knowledge on ceramic–metal joint materials by CDJ method,but also contribute new insights on the development of various new joint systems.

This paper deals with the mathematical modelling and 3D FEM study of the energy release rate(ERR)in the band crack’s front contained in the orthotropic thick rectangular plate which is stretched or compressed initially before the loading of the crack's edge *** initial stretching or compressing of the plate causes uniformly distributed normal stress to appear acting in the direction which is parallel to the plane on which the band crack is *** the appearance of the initial stress in the plate it is assumed that the crack's edge planes are loaded with additional uniformly distributed normal forces and the ERR caused with this additional loading is *** corresponding boundary value problem is formulated within the scope of the so-called 3D linearized theory of elasticity which allows the initial stress on the values of the ERR to be taken into *** results on the influence of the initial stress,anisotropy properties of the plate material,the crack’s length and its distance from the face planes of the plate on the values of the ERR,are presented and *** particular,it is established that for the relatively greater length of the crack’s band,the initial stretching of the plate causes a decrease,but the initial compression causes an increase in the values of the ERR.

A new approach for prediction of the wear loss of PTA surface coatings using artificial neural network and basic,kernel-based,and weighted extreme learning machine

Wear tests are essential in the design of parts intended to work in environments that subject a part to high *** tests involve high cost and lengthy experiments,and require special test *** use of machine learning algorithms for wear loss quantity predictions is a potentially effective means to eliminate the disadvantages of experimental methods such as cost,labor,and *** this study,wear loss data of AISI 1020 steel coated by using a plasma transfer arc welding(PTAW)method with FeCrC,FeW,and FeB powders mixed in different ratios were obtained experimentally by some of the researchers in our *** mechanical properties of the coating layers were detected by microhardness measurements and dry sliding wear *** wear tests were performed at three different loads(19.62,39.24,and 58.86 N)over a sliding distance of 900 *** this study,models have been developed by using four different machine learning algorithms(an artificial neural network(ANN),extreme learning machine(ELM),kernel-based extreme learning machine(KELM),and weighted extreme learning machine(WELM))on the data set obtained from the wear test *** R2 value was calculated as 0.9729 in the model designed with WELM,which obtained the best performance among the models evaluated.
