Analysis of Disequilibrium Hybridization in Hybrid and Backcross Progenies of Saccharum officinarum × Erianthus arundinaceus

Erianthus arundinaceus is an important, closely related genus of Saccharum officinarum L. It is therefore important to understand how the chromosomes are transmitted when it hybridizes with sugarcane. The hybrids and backcross progenies of S. officinarum and E. arundinaceus and their parents were used for Karyotype analysis and to study the law of chromosome transmission. The results showed that the somatic chromosome number of both of the E. arundinaceus Hainan92-105 and Hainan92-77 were 2n = 60 = 60sm, belonging to type 1 A, and the BC1 YC01-21 was 2n = 104 = 100m ＋ 4sm, belonging to type 2C. The other six tested clones belonged to type 2B. The both F1s YC96-66 and YC96-40 that originated from Badila （2n = 80 = 70m ＋ 10sm） with E. Arundinaceus were 2n = 70 = 68m ＋ 2sm, which suggests an n ＋ n transmission. The cross between YC96-66 （female parent） and CP84-1198 （male parent, 2n = 120 = 114m ＋ 6sm） also followed the same genetic law and the somatic chromosome number of their progeny, YC01-3 （2n = 105 = 95m ＋ 10sm）. The cross derived from YC96- 40 （female） and CP84-1198 （male）, YC01-21 had 2n = 104 = 100m ＋ 4sm chromosomes, following the same genetic law of n ＋ n. However, YC01-36 had 2n = 132 = 130m ＋ 2sm chromosomes, which suggests a 2n ＋ n chromosome transmission. It can be inferred that the inheritance of chromosomes was very complex in the BC1. The difference in chromosome number between clones was as high as 28. This could be explained by the 2n ＋ n transmission of chromosomes. In addition, as there was not be a regular number of haploids, this phenomenon is termed as disequilibrium hybridization.

Enhanced Fenton-like process over Cu/L(+)-ascorbic acid co-doping mesoporous silica for toxicity reduction of emerging contaminants

Effective removal of emerging contaminants(ECs)to minimize their impacts on human health and the natural environment is a global *** the removal of ECs in water,we fabricated a seaweed spherical microsphere catalyst with Cu cation-πstructures by in situ doping of Cu species and ascorbic acid in mesoporous silica(Cu-C-MSNs)via a hydrothermal *** results indicate that bisphenol A(BPA)is substantially degraded within 5 min under natural conditions,with its biological toxicity considerably ***,industrial wastewater could also be effectively purified by Cu-C-MSNs/H_(2)O_(2) *** presence of metal sites and the complexation of ECs via cation-πinteraction andπ-πstacking on the catalyst surface were directly responsible for the polarization distribution of electrons,thus activating H_(2)O_(2) and dissolved oxygen(DO).The removal of contaminants could be attributed primarily to 1)the activation of H_(2)O_(2) into ^(·)OH to attack the contaminants and 2)self-cleavage because of the transfer of electrons from the contaminants to the *** study provides an innovative solution for the effective treatment of ECs and has positive implications for easing global environmental crises.

Design of a Bio-inspired,Two-winged,Flapping-wing Micro Air Vehicle with High-lift Performance

In this paper,we present the development of our latest flapping-wing micro air vehicle(FW-MAV),named Explobird,which features two wings with a wingspan of 195 mm and weighs a mere 25.2 g,enabling it to accomplish vertical take-off and hover *** devised a novel gear-based mechanism for the flapping system to achieve high lift capability and reliability and conducted extensive testing and analysis on the wings to optimise power matching and lift *** Explobird can deliver a peak lift-to-weight ratio of 1.472 and an endurance time of 259 s during hover flight powered by a single-cell LiPo *** the inherent instability of the prototype,we discuss the derivatives of its longitudinal system,underscoring the importance of feedback control,position of the centre of gravity,and increased *** demonstrate the effect of damping enhancement on stability,we also designed a passive stable ***,the vehicle is actively stabilised in roll by adjusting the wing root bars and in pitch through high-authority tail control,whereas yaw is passively *** a series of flight tests,we successfully demonstrate that our prototype can perform vertical take-off and hover flight under wireless *** promising results position the Explobird as a robust vehicle with high lift capability,paving the way towards the use of FW-MAVs for carrying load equipment in multiple tasks.

Fluorinated semi-interpenetrating polymer networks for enhancing the mechanical performance and storage stability of polymer-bonded explosives by controlling curing and phase separation rates

Herein, the effect of fluoropolymer binders on the properties of polymer-bonded explosives(PBXs) was comprehensively investigated. To this end, fluorinated semi-interpenetrating polymer networks(semiIPNs) were prepared using different catalyst amounts(denoted as F23-CLF-30-D). The involved curing and phase separation processes were monitored using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, a haze meter and a rheometer. Curing rate constant and activation energy were calculated using a theoretical model and numerical method, respectively. Results revealed that owing to its co-continuous micro-phase separation structure, the F23-CLF-30-D3 semi-IPN exhibited considerably higher tensile strength and elongation at break than pure fluororubber F2314 and the F23-CLF-30-D0 semi-IPN because the phase separation and curing rates matched in the initial stage of *** arc Brazilian test revealed that F23-CLF-30-D-based composites used as mock materials for PBXs exhibited excellent mechanical performance and storage stability. Thus, the matched curing and phase separation rates play a crucial role during the fabrication of high-performance semi-IPNs;these factors can be feasibly controlled using an appropriate catalyst amount.

Low-dose computed tomography(LDCT)contains the mixed noise of Poisson and Gaus-sian,which makes the image reconstruction a challenging *** order to describe the statistical characteristics of the mixed noise,we adopt the sinogram preprocessing as a stan-dard maximum a posteriori(MAP).Based on the fact that the sinogram of LDCT has non-local self-similarity property,it exhibits low-rank *** conventional way of solving the low-rank problem is implemented in matrix forms,and ignores the correlations among similar patch *** avoid this issue,we make use of a nonlocal Kronecker-Basis-Representation(KBR)method to depict the low-rank problem.A new denoising model,which consists of the sinogram preprocessing for data fidelity and the nonlocal KBR term,is developed in this *** proposed denoising model can better illustrate the generative mechanism of the mixed noise and the prior knowledge of the ***-merical results show that the proposed denoising model outperforms the state-of-the-art algorithms in terms of peak-signal-to-noise ratio(PSNR),feature similarity(FSIM),and normalized mean square error(NMSE).

How the surface Cu layer affected the activity of Ni foil for alkaline hydrogen evolution

Synthesizing bimetallic nanomaterials,with noble metals as the surface layers and inert metals as the substrates,has been proven to be an effective way to reduce the use of noble metals with maintained catalytic ***,an atomic diffusion from the inert substrate to the surface during the long-term operation has been reported to significantly decrease the *** this work,a series of catalysis-inert Cu-coated Ni foil were fabricated through electrodeposition and their activities for alkaline hydrogen evolution were ***,the Ni/Cu-60 sample showed a similar catalytic property with pure Ni foil and only a slight decrease in HER activity was *** X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)results indicated a decreased electron concentration of Cu in Ni/Cu-60,and theoretical calculations further demonstrated the electron transfer between the Ni substrate and Cu *** results reveal that a specific composition or structure of an inert metal layer might not significantly decrease the electrocatalytic activity of active ***,there are more possibilities for the rational design of metal-based catalysts for electrocatalysis.

Flow resistance in the channel-bar landscape of large alluvial rivers

Accurate approaches for estimating flow resistance in large alluvial rivers are fundamental for simulating discharge,sediment transport,and flood ***,methods for estimating riverbed resistance and additional resistance in the channel-bar landscapes remain poorly *** this study,we used in situ river bathymetry,sediment,and hydraulic data from the Shashi Reach in the Yangtze River to develop a semi-empirical approach for calculating flow *** method quantitatively separates flow resistance into riverbed resistance and additional resistance and shows high accuracy in terms of deviation ratio(~20%),root-mean-square error(~0.008),and geometric standard deviation(~3).Additional resistance plays a dominant role under low-flow conditions but a secondary role under high flows,primarily due to the reduction in momentum exchange in channel-bar regions as discharge *** resistance first decreases and then increases,which might be attributed to bedform changes in the lower and transitional flow regimes as flow velocity ***,our findings further the understanding of dynamic changes in flow resistance in the channel-bar landscapes of large river systems and have important implications for riverine ecology and flood management.

Battery pack capacity estimation for electric vehicles based on enhanced machine learning and field data

Accurate capacity estimation is of great importance for the reliable state monitoring,timely maintenance,and second-life utilization of lithium-ion *** numerous works on battery capacity estimation using laboratory datasets,most of them are applied to battery cells and lack satisfactory fidelity when extended to real-world electric vehicle(EV)battery *** challenges intensify for large-sized EV battery packs,where unpredictable operating profiles and low-quality data acquisition hinder precise capacity *** fill the gap,this study introduces a novel data-driven battery pack capacity estimation method grounded in field *** proposed approach begins by determining labeled capacity through an innovative combination of the inverse ampere-hour integral,open circuit voltage-based,and resistance-based correction ***,multiple health features are extracted from incremental capacity curves,voltage curves,equivalent circuit model parameters,and operating temperature to thoroughly characterize battery aging behavior.A feature selection procedure is performed to determine the optimal feature set based on the Pearson correlation ***,a convolutional neural network and bidirectional gated recurrent unit,enhanced by an attention mechanism,are employed to estimate the battery pack capacity in real-world EV ***,the proposed method is validated with a field dataset from two EVs,covering approximately 35,000 *** results demonstrate that the proposed method exhibits better estimation performance with an error of less than 1.1%compared to existing *** work shows great potential for accurate large-sized EV battery pack capacity estimation based on field data,which provides significant insights into reliable labeled capacity calculation,effective features extraction,and machine learning-enabled health diagnosis.

Tetrathiafulvalene esters with high redox potentials and improved solubilities for non-aqueous redox flow battery applications

The exploitation of high performance redox-active substances is critically important for the development of non-aqueous redoxﬂow ***,three tetrathiofulvalene(TTF)derivatives with different substitution groups,namely TTF diethyl ester(TTFDE),TTF tetramethyl ester(TTFTM),and TTF tetraethyl ester(TTFTE),are prepared and their energy storage properties are *** has been found that the redox potential and solubility of these TTF derivatives in conventional carbonate electrolytes increases with the number of ester *** battery with a catholyte of 0.2 mol L^(-1) of TTFTE delivers a speciﬁc capacity of more than 10 Ah L^(-1) at the current density of 0.5 C with two discharge voltage platforms locating at as high as 3.85 and 3.60 V ***/Liþ.Its capacity retention can be improved from 2.34 Ah L^(-1) to 3.60 Ah L^(-1) after 100 cycles by the use of an anion exchange membrane to block the crossover of TTF *** excellent cycling stability of the TIF esters is supported by their well-delocalized electrons,as revealed by the density function theory ***,the introduction of more and larger electron-withdrawing groups is a promising strategy to simultaneously increase the redox-potential and solubility of redox-active ma-terials for non-aqueous redoxﬂow batteries.
