Wearable multi-sensing double-chain thermoelectric generator

Wearable electronics play a crucial role in advancing the rapid development of artificial intelligence,and as an attractive future vision,all-in-one wearable microsystems integrating powering,sensing,actuating and other functional components on a single chip have become an appealing ***,we propose a wearable thermoelectric generator(ThEG)with a novel double-chain configuration to simultaneously realize sustainable energy harvesting and multi-functional *** contrast to traditional single-chain ThEGs with the sole function of thermal energy harvesting,each individual chain of the developed double-chain thermoelectric generator(DC-ThEG)can be utilized to scavenge heat energy,and moreover,the combination of the two chains can be employed as functional sensing electrodes at the same *** mature mass-fabrication technology of screen printing was successfully introduced to print n-type and p-type thermoelectric inks atop a polymeric substrate to form thermocouples to construct two independent chains,which makes this DC-ThEG flexible,high-performance and *** emerging material of silk fibroin was employed to cover the gap of the fabricated two chains to serve as a functional layer for sensing the existence of liquid water molecules in the air and the *** powering and sensing functions of the developed DC-ThEG and their interactions were systematically studied via experimental measurements,which proved the DC-ThEG to be a robust multi-functional power source with a 151 mV open-circuit *** addition,it was successfully demonstrated that this DC-ThEG can convert heat energy to achieve a 3.3 V output,matching common power demands of wearable electronics,and harvest biothermal energy to drive commercial electronics(i.e.,a calculator).The integration approach of powering and multi-functional sensing based on this new double-chain configuration might open a new chapter in advanced thermoelectric generators,especially in the ap

A variety of luminol derivatives with N-and O-substitution have been synthesized with broad functional group tolerance. O-esterification has been demonstrated for the first time as a promising way to prepare enhanced CL reagents for sensing hemin, bloodstain and horseradish peroxidase(HRP). The most effective analogue with a deuterated acetyl group exhibited greater potential than luminol for bloodstain imaging and HRP imaging in western blotting(WB). In addition, O-etherification can greatly suppress CL signal that has been applied to design a CL probe for β-glucosidase(β-Glu). This study offers important and useful information regarding the luminol modification and shows great potential to use O-substituted analogues for enhanced CL analysis.

Solar-driven high-temperature steam generation at ambient pressure

This paper demonstrates a facile solar steam generator for the generation of high-temperature steam at ambient pressure. The steam generator consists of a coiled copper tube(CCT) that serves as both solar collector and vapor heater. Both the inner and outer surfaces of the CCT are coated with black superhydrophobic copper oxide layer to improve the solar absorption, and such superhydrophobic layer prevents the condensation and clogging of water vapor during the heating process. Solar vapor is generated at the inlet of CCT through interfacial evaporation and subsequently heated inside the CCT as the vapor travels from the inlet to the outlet. By employing this approach, steam temperature that exceeds 100℃ under 1-sun illumination is demonstrated. Furthermore,steam temperature could reach as high as 250℃ under 10-sun illumination at ambient pressure. Successful sterilization experiment was also performed in this work to demonstrate the potential application of the high temperature steam generated. Such demonstrated approach helps open up the potential usage of solar-driven interfacial evaporation in applications that involve high-temperature steam, including medical sterilization,chemical manufacturing and food processing.

Electron-Ion Coupling Mechanism to Construct Stable Output Performance Nanogenerator

Recently,triboelectric nanogenerators(TENGs)have been promoted as an effective technique for ambient energy harvesting,given their large power density and high energy conversion ***,traditional TENGs based on the combination of triboelectrification effect and electrostatic induction have proven susceptible to environmental influence,which intensively restricts their application ***,a new coupling mechanism based on electrostatic induction and ion conduction is proposed to construct flexible stable output performance TENGs(SOP-TENGs).The calcium chloride doped-cellulose nanofibril(CaCl_(2)-CNF)film made of natural carrots was successfully introduced to realize this coupling,resulting from its intrinsic properties as natural nanofibril hydrogel serving as both triboelectric layer and *** coupling of two conductive mechanisms of SOP-TENG was comprehensively investigated through electrical measurements,including the effects of moisture content,relative humidity,and electrode *** contrast to the conventional hydrogel ionotronic TENGs that require moisture as the carrier for ion transfer and use a hydrogel layer as the electrode,the use of a CaCl_(2)-CNF film(i.e.,ion-doped natural hydrogel layer)as a friction layer in the proposed SOP-TENG effectively realizes a superstable electrical output under varying moisture contents and relative humidity due to the compound transfer mechanism of ions and *** new working principle based on the coupling of electrostatic induction and ion conduction opens a wider range of applications for the hydrogel ionotronic TENGs,as the superstable electrical output enables them to be more widely applied in various complex environments to supply energy for low-power electronic devices.

Impacts of mismatched intrinsic parameter on leader-laggard synchronization between two mutually coupled VCSELs

Based on spin-flip model(SFM), the impacts of mismatched intrinsic parameter on leader-laggard chaos synchronization between two mutually coupled verticalcavity surface-emitting lasers(VCSELs) have been investigated numerically. Results show that, for two VCSELs with identical intrinsic parameter, the switching point of leader-laggard caused by continually varying frequency detuning or injection rate detuning is located at zero frequency detuning or zero injection rate detuning,which indicates that the VCSEL with higher frequency or subject to lower injection level plays a leader ***, for two VCSELs with mismatched intrinsic parameter, the switched point of leader-laggard will deviate from zero frequency detuning or zero injection rate. Therefore, compared with the results obtained under matched intrinsic parameter, the opposite results have been observed in the range between zero detuning and switching point. Additionally, the offsets of switching point induced by different intrinsic parameters are different, and the influence of line-width enhancement factor is found to be the most significant.

The combination of horseradish peroxidase(HRP)and a fluorescence substrate has been attracting great interests in developing sensitive biochemical analysis and immunoassays.10-Acetyl-3,7-dihydroxyphenoxazine(ADHP or Amplex red)is the most sensitive fluorogenic substrate known for HRP in current market,however,it suffers from some drawbacks,such as non-specific reactivity to carboxylesterase and limited fluorescence *** the present study,a novel HRP substrate10-cyclopropylcarbonyl-dichloro-dihydroxyphenoxazine(AR-2),has been prepared,which exhibited improved sensitivity than ADHP in sensing ***,the fluorescence of AR-2/HRP demonstrated improved tolerance to physiological relevant p H fluctuation as compared to ADHP/*** detection of uric acid/urate oxidase reaction indicated excellent application prospect of AR-2/HRP for monitoring H_(2)O_(2)-generating biochemical *** interestingly,an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)using AR-2 as the fluorescence reporter has been successfully used in detecting IgG against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)from human serum ***,AR-2 exhibits improved performances over the commercial ADHP,which will be an ideal alternative to ADHP in HRP-based fluorescence biochemical analysis and immunoassays.

Concentration, Distribution, and Occurrence of REEs in Coals from Chongqing,Southwest China

The concentration, distribution, and occurrence of rare earth elements (REEs) in coals as well as stone coalsin different geological periods from Chongqing were studied. The results show that the REE content in coals fromChongqing is much higher than that of the ordinary Chinese coals, the Late Paleozoic coals from North China, UScoals, and the world coals. Although the concentration of light rare earth elements (LREE) is higher than that of heavyrare earth elements (HREE), the ratio of LREE to HREE is as low as 5.11. The REE content decreases with thecoal-formation periods from old to new. The REE content in the Sinian stone coal is the highest, but it is the lowest inEarly Jurassic coals. The similar REE contents in bituminous coals and anthracite show that the metamorphism has alittle influence on REE content in coal. In addition, silicate association dominates the occurrence mode of REEs incoals from Chongqing.

Carbide Precipitation in Ferrite in Nb–V-Bearing Low-Carbon Steel During Isothermal Quenching Process

The precipitation behavior of nanometer-sized carbides in ferrite in Nb-V-bearing low-carbon steel was studied by electron microscopy and nanoindentation hardness measurements. The results indicated that interphase precipitation and random precipitation could occur simultaneously for the specimen isothermally treated at 700 ℃ for 60 min, while in other specimens, only random precipitation was observed. This phenomenon might be explained by mass balance criterion during the diffusional phase transformation. Nanohardness result indicated that the average hardness of the specimens isothermally held at 600 ℃ for 20 min was 3.87 GPa. For the specimen isothermally holding at 650 ℃ for 20 min, the average hardness was 4.10 GPa and the distribution of the nanohardness was in a narrower range compared with that of the specimen isothermal holding at 600 ℃ for 20 min. These implied that the carbides in the specimens isothermal treated at 650℃ were more uniformly dispersed, and the number density of the carbides was greater than that treated at 600 ℃. Using Ashby-Orowan model, the contribution of precipitation strengthening to yield strength was estimated to be 110 MPa for the specimen isothermally treated at the temperature of 650 ℃ for 20 min.
