Ammonia borane-based reactive mixture for trapping and converting carbon dioxide

Ammonia borane(NH_(3)bH_(3))is a reducing agent,able to trap and convert carbon dioxide.In the present work,we used a reactive solid consisting of a mixture of 90 wt.%of NH_(3)bH_(3)and 10 wt.%of palladium chloride,because the mixture reacts in a fast and exothermic way while releasing H2 and generating catalytic Pd0.We took advantage of such reactivity to trap and convert CO_(2)(7 bar),knowing besides that Pd0 is a CO_(2)hydrogenation catalyst.The operation(i.***.stage 1)was effective:bNH polymers,and b−O,C=O,C−O,and C−H bonds(like in bOCH_(3)and bOOCH groups)were identified.We then(in stage 2)pyrolyzed the as-obtained solid at 1250℃ and washed it with water.In doing so,we isolated cyclotriboric acid H_(3)b3O6(stemming from b2O3 formed at 1250℃),hexagonal boron nitride,and graphitic carbon.In conclusion,the stage 1 showed that CO_(2)can be‘trapped’and converted,resulting in the formation of bOCH_(3)and bOOCH groups(possible sources of methanol and formic acid),and the stage 2 showed that CO_(2)transforms into graphitic carbon.

Cobalt,a reactive metal in releasing hydrogen from sodium borohydride by hydrolysis:A short review and a research perspective

Cobalt is commonly admitted as being a promising catalyst in accelerating NabH4 hydrolysis,being as reactive as noble metals and much more cost-effective.This is the topic of the present paper.Herein,we survey(i) the NabH4-devoted literature while especially focusing on the Co catalysts and(ii) our work on the same topic.Finally,we report(iii) reactivity results of newly developed Co-based catalysts.From both surveys,it mainly stands out that Co has been investigated as catalysts in various forms:namely,as chlorides,reduced nanoparticles(metal Co,Co boride,Co-b alloy),supported over supports and shaped.In doing so the reactivity can be easily varied achieving H2 generation rates from few to >1000 L(H2)/min·g(metal).Nevertheless,our work can be distinguished from the NabH4 literature.Indeed,we are working on strategies that focus on making alternative Co-based catalysts.One of these strategies is illustrated here as we report new reactivity data of Co-based bimetallic supported catalysts.For example,we show that 20 wt% Co90Y10/γAl2O3-20 wt% Co95Hf5/γAl2O3 > 20 wt% Co99Zr1/γAl2O3 > 20 wt% Co/γAl2O3,the best catalysts showing HGRs of about 245 mL(H2)/min or 123 L(H2) /min·g(metals).

background： We examined the impact of adjuvant modalities on resected pancreatic and periampullary adenocarcinoma（PAC）.Methods： A total of 563 patients who were curatively resected for PAC were retrospectively analyzed between 2003 and 2013.Results： Of 563 patients, 472 received adjuvant chemotherapy（CT） alone, chemoradiotherapy（CRT） alone, and chemoradiotherapy plus chemotherapy（CRT-CT） were analyzed. Of the 472 patients, 231 were given CRT-CT, 26 were given CRT, and 215 were given CT. The median recurrence-free survival（RFS） and overall survival（OS） were 12 and 19 months, respectively. When CT and CRT-CT groups were compared, there was no significant difference with respect to both RFS and OS, and also there was no difference in RFS and OS among CRT-CT, CT and CRT groups. To further investigate the impact of radiation on subgroups, patients were stratified according to lymph node status and resection margins. In node-positive patients, both RFS and OS were significantly longer in CRT-CT than CT. In contrast, there was no significant differencebetween groups when patients with node-negative disease or patients with or without positive surgical margins were considered.Conclusions： Addition of radiation to CT has a survival benefit in patients with node-positive disease following pancreatic resection.

Ipsilateral motor evoked potentials in a patient with unihemispheric cortical atrophy due to Rasmussen encephalitis

The role of the ipsilaterally descending motor pathways in the recovery mechanisms after unilateral hemispheric damage is still poorly understood. Motor output reorganization was investigated in a 56-year-old male patient with acquired unilateral hemispheric atrophy due to Rasmussen encephalitis. In particular,the ipsilateral corticospinal pathways were explored using focal transcranial magnetic stimulation. In the first dorsal interosseous and wrist extensors muscles, the median amplitudes of the ipsilateral motor evoked potentials induced by transcranial magnetic stimulation in the patient were higher than those of 10 age-matched healthy control subjects. In the biceps brachii muscle, the median amplitudes of the ipsilateral motor evoked potentials were the second largest in the patient compared to the controls. This study demonstrated a reinforcement of ipsilateral motor projections from the unaffected motor cortex to the hemiparetic hand in a subject with acquired unihemispheric cortical damage.
