Clinicobiochemical investigations of gangrenous mastitis in does:immunological responses and oxidative stress biomarkers

A total of 50 does were used to determine selected hematological and biochemical parameters with special references to oxidative stress markers, acute phase protein profiles, and proinflammatory cytokines in healthy and gangrenous mastitis affected does. Animals were divided into two equal groups represented as clinically healthy （control） and diseased groups, respectively. The bacteriological examination of milk samples from diseased does revealed many types of bacterial infection. The isolated bacteria were Staphy/ococcus aureus （N=23/25）, Escherichia coil （N=11/25）, and Clostridium perfringens （N=4/25）. There was a significant increase in the levels of β-hydrexybutyrate, non-esterified free fatty acids, triglyceride, low density lipoprotein cholesterol （LDL-C）, aspartate aminotransferase, and alanine aminotransferase and a significant reduction in the levels of glucose, cholesterol, and high density lipoprotein cholesterol （HDL-C） in does with gangrenous mastitis compared to healthy does. Moreover, there was a significant increase in the levels of malondialdehyde and uric acid with a significant decrease in the levels of reduced glutathione, super oxide dismutase, and catalase in does with gangrenous mastitis compared to healthy does. In addition, there was a significant increase in the haptoglobin, serum amyloid A, fibrinogen, interleukin 6 （IL-6）, IL-1β, and tumor necrosis factor-a （TNF-a） in does with gangrenous mastitis compared to healthy ones. Conclusively, oxidative stress biomarkers, acute phase proteins, and proinflammatory cytokines play an essential task as biomarkers for gangrenous mastitis in does. Mastitis may be considered as one of the ketotic stressors in does after parturition.

Influence of Organic Matter Content on Hydro-Structural Properties of Constructed Technosols

Constructed Technosols may be an alternative for creating urban green spaces. However, the hydro-structural properties emer- ging from the assembly of artefacts have never been documented. The soil shrinkage curve （SSC） could provide relevant structural information about constructed Technosols, such as the water holding capacity of each pore system （macropores and micropores）. The objectives of this study were （i） to evaluate the SSC and water retention curve （WRC） to describe the structure of constructed Tech- nosols and （ii） to understand the influence of organic matter content on soil hydro-structural properties. In this study, Technosols were obtained by mixing green waste compost （GWC） with the material excavated from deep horizons of soil （EDH）. The CWC was mixed with EDH in six different volumetric percentages from 0% to 50% （GWC/total）. The GWC and EDH exhibited highly divergent hydro-structural properties： the SSC was hyperbolic for GWC and sigmoid for EDH. All six mixture treatments （0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% GWC） exhibited the classical sigmoid shape, revealing two embedded levels of pore systems. The 20% GWC treatment was hydro-structurally similar to the 30% and 40% GWC treatments; so, a large quantity of expansive GWC is unnecessary. The relation with the GWC percentage was a second-degree equation for volumetric available water in micropores, but was linear for volumetric available water in macropores and total volumetric available water. Total volumetric available water in the 50% GWC treatment was twice as high as that in the 0% GWC treatment. By combining SSCs and WRCs, increasing the GWC percentage increased water holding capacity by decreasing the maximum equivalent size of water-saturated micropores at the shrinkage limit and increasing the maximum equivalent size of water-saturated macropores, resulting in an increased range of pore diameter able to retain available water.

Current investigation has shown that human exposure to aflatoxins is not limited to the administration of contaminated cereals,but water is another possible *** study was aimed to design easily applicable method to eliminate aflatoxin B2(AFB2)from contaminated drinking *** has been used for preparation of probiotic-coated polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)and cellulose acetate(CA)*** of these hybrid nanofibers were studied by scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR).SEM showed the proper coating of probiotic strains(Kluyveromyces lactis CBS 2359 and Saccharomyces cerevisiae ATCC 9763)on both nanofiber *** areas(1-5 cm^(2))of the probiotic-nanofiber hybrid were used to enhance the removal of 20 ng/ml of aflatoxin B2(AFB2)from prepared AFB2-contaminated water over *** revealed that a 5 cm^(2) area of probiotic-coated PVA nanofibers can eliminate 97.5% of AFB2 as compared to 87.5%,90.5%,93.5%,and 95.5%,for 1 cm2,2 cm^(2),3 cm^(2),and 4 cm^(2),respectively,while probiotic-coated CA nanofibers were slightly less ***,the cytotoxicity of probiotics-CA treated water on cultured human fibroblasts was almost 10 times lower than the cytotoxicity recorded in probiotics-PVA treated ***,results of the current research suggest that probiotics-polymer nanofiber membranes can be used as an extra stage in the water purification system for the treatment of AFB2-contaminated water.

Adipose tissue induces a better liver regeneration after living liver donation in normal weight donors

Background:Extrahepatic body fat could be a relevant factor affecting liver regeneration after partial *** aim of this study was to evaluate the potential role of body fatty tissue in liver regeneration capacity after liver resection in a cohort of living ***:We observed liver regeneration in 120 patients:70 living donors who underwent right hepatectomy and 50 recipients who got a right graft *** volumetry and body fat analysis were performed based on the computed tomography images with volumetry *** gain of liver volume was calculated between three points in time considering the absolute and percentage values:before surgery and early(median 10 days,range 4-21 days)and late(median 27 weeks,range 18-40 weeks)after ***’s correlation was used to examine the potential correlation between adipose tissue and liver ***:Pearson’s correlation showed a significant correlation between the subcutaneous fat mass index(sFMI)and early(r=0.173,P=0.030),as well late(r=0.395,P=0.0004)percental liver volume gain in the whole *** stratification in donor’s and recipient’s collectives,the effect of extrahepatic adipose tissue appears in multiple regression only in the donor’s collective:early(β=0.219,T=2.137,P=0.036)and late(β=0.390,T=2.552,P=0.015)percental volume ***:Subcutaneous adipose tissue is a positive predictive factor to estimate the goodness of liver regeneration after partial hepatectomy in normosthenic donors.

Using DNA Sequences and Phylogenetic Trees as Tools for Teaching Entomology to Undergraduate Students: A Simple Approach

This technical note aims to show how any instructor teaching entomology can use the Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) and the “one click” mode of *** to teach undergraduate students about insect DNA similarity in a simple way. Teaching an entomology course requires the use of numerous tools to help students grasp different concepts. Knowing that there are more than one million described species of insects means that teaching students about insect identification and taxonomy can be challenging. However, here we present two easy exercises that could be used as classroom or take-home assignments to demonstrate various levels of DNA similarity among different insect taxa. Such exercises unlock students’ creativity and break the barrier of fear of bioinformatics. Moreover, they open up new ways for them to understand insect taxonomy through molecular biology and allow them to develop new skills that contribute to strengthening their scientific performance in the future, especially when they do research as graduate students. Finally, this note is an example of how to integrate simple bioinformatics tools into the teaching of entomology.

Lethal time at different temperatures and date variety preference of the saw-toothed grain beetle in stored dates

This electronic document is a “live” template. The various The saw-toothed grain beetle, Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.) (Coleoptera: Silvanidae), is the most important insect pest attacking stored dates in the United Arab Emirates. We sought to determine the time required to cause 100% mortality (lethal time) in O. surinamensis adults incubated at different temperatures, to measure temperature penetration time inside a date mass, and to study date variety preference of O. surinamensis adults. To do this, adults of O. surinamensis were separately incubated at -22℃, 50℃, and 55℃, for 5, 10, 20, 30, 60, 90, and 120 min, per temperature treatment;and we used feeding choice tests on four date varieties (Khelas, Fardh, Lulu, and BuMaán). Results showed that the lethal times of O. surinamensis adults, incubated at -22℃, 50℃, and 55℃, without dates, were 5, 10, and 20 min, respectively;while they were several times higher (30, 90, and 120 min, respectively) in the presence of dates. Results also showed that bigger date masses required either more heating or more freezing time to reach lethal temperatures. We found Khelas to be the least preferred date variety. Future studies should evaluate if heat and chilling injury affect postharvest date quality.

Exploring QSARs for Inhibitory Activity of Cyclic Urea and Nonpeptide-Cyclic Cyanoguanidine Derivatives HIV-1 Protease Inhibitors by Artificial Neural Network

Quantitative structure–activity relationship study using artificial neural network (ANN) methodology were conducted to predict the inhibition constants of 127 symmetrical and unsymmetrical cyclic urea and cyclic cyanoguanidine derivatives containing different substituent groups such as: benzyl, isopropyl, 4-hydroxybenzyl, ketone, oxime, pyrazole, imidazole, triazole and having anti-HIV-1 protease activities. The results obtained by artificial neural network give advanced regression models with good prediction ability. The two optimal artificial neural network models obtained have coefficients of determination of 0.746 and 0.756. The lowest prediction’s root mean square error obtained is 0.607. Artificial neural networks provide improved models for heterogeneous data sets without splitting them into families. Both the external and cross-validation methods are used to validate the performances of the resulting models. Randomization test is employed to check the suitability of the models.
