Engineering the electronic properties of semiconductor-based photocatalysts using elemental doping is an effective approach to improve their catalytic ***,there still remain contradictions regarding the role of the dopants played in ***,ultrathin ZnIn_(2)S_(4)(ZIS) nanosheets with oxygen doping were synthesized by a one-pot solvothermal ***,XPS and Raman spectral measurements support the presence of lattice oxygen in the oxygen-doped ZIS(O-ZIS) *** optimum doping of oxygen,the ultrathin O-ZIS nanosheets show enhanced CO_(2)-to-CO conversion activity with a CO_(2)-evolving rate of 1680 μmol h^(-1) g^(-1) under visible light irradiation,which is about 7 times higher than that of the pristine ***-principle calculations support that doping of oxygen in the lattice of ZnIn_(2)S_(4) nanosheets plays a key role in tuning its electronic *** remarkable photocatalytic performance of O-ZIS can be assigned to a synergistic consequence of a unique ultrathin-layered structure and an upward shift of the conduction band minimum(CBM) caused by the oxygen doping into ZIS and the quantum confinement effect(QCE) induced by the decreased particle size after doping as well as to the improved charge separation *** present work offers a simple elemental doping method to promote charge separation at atomic level and illustrates the roles played by oxygen doping in photocatalysis,giving new insights into highly efficient artificial photosynthesis.

Effects of expanding zone parameters of vacuum dust suction mouth on flow simulation results

Based on the parametric analysis of the expanding zone of the vacuum dust suction mouth,the flow in the vacuum dust suction mouth was simulated by computational fluid dynamics(CFD)software,*** effects of the expanding zone parameters on flow simulation were *** results show that simulation effects depend on threshold values of the expanding zone parameters of the dust suction mouth,and the threshold values of the expanding zone can be obtained according to the different structures of the vacuum dust suction mouth and be selected as the geometric parameters in calculating,and also corners of the expanding zone make unobvious difference in calculation accuracy and in computational efficiency compared with no *** simulation results provide practical guidance to the flow simulation on the dust suction mouth.

An 11 year study was conducted to reevaluate the species of stipitate hydnums from the southern United States especially the Great Smoky Mountains and surrounding *** genera evaluated included Bankera herein reduced to synonym with Phellodon,Hydnellum,Sarcodon,and *** of many stipitate hydnum species from this region were abundant but nitrogen depositions during the last 20 years have impacted their *** it became critical to do a definitive study of these fungi using current taxonomic *** species within Hydnellum and Phellodon have a indeterminate type growth often dependant on environmental conditions making discrimination between closely related species difficult without supportive molecular sequence *** sequence data(ITS)was obtained a phylogenetic analyzes were conducted and the sequences were compared to those in GenBank with particular attention to European data.A total of 41 distinct taxa were determined and many of those were confirmed based on morphological data.A specific new combination from Bankera fuligineoalbum to Phellodon fuligineoalbus is made ***,Phellodon brunneoolivaceus is described as new based on morphological and sequence data.

Endosymbionts are microorganisms present in all plant species, and constitute the subject of interest among the scientific community. These symbionts have gained considerable attention in recent years, owing to their emerging biological roles. Global challenges, such as antimicrobial resistance, treatment of infectious diseases such as HIV and tuberculosis, cancer, and many genetic disorders, exist. Endosymbionts can help address these challenges by secreting valueadded bioactive compounds with various activities. Herein, we describe the importance of plants inhabiting Siberian niches. These plants are considered to be among the least studied organisms in the plant kingdom worldwide. Barcoding these plants can be of interest for exploring bioactive endosymbionts possessing myriad biological properties. A systematic survey of relevant scientific reports was conducted using the PubMed search engine. The reports were analyzed, and compiled to draft this review. The literature survey on Siberian plants regarding endosymbionts included a few reports, since extremely few exploratory studies have been conducted on the plants in these regions. Studies on the endosymbionts of these plants are highly valuable, as they report potent endosymbionts possessing numerous biological properties. Based on these considerations, this review aims to create awareness among the global scientific community working on related areas. This review could provide the basis for barcoding novel endosymbionts of Siberian plants and their ecological importance, which can be exploited in various sectors. The main purpose of this review is to create awareness of Siberian plants, which are among the least studied organisms in the plant kingdom, with respect to endosymbionts, among the scientific community.

Labial tip sensilla of Blissus leucopterus leucopterus （Hemiptera： Blissidae）： Ultrastructure and behavior

The cuticular sensory receptors that are found on the apex of the labium of hemipterans play an important role in their feeding behavior. In this study we describe the ultrastructure, number, and distribution of sensilla on the labium apex of the chinch bug, Blissus leucopterus leucopterus. Each apical field of sensilla on the labium contains 11 uniporous peg sensilla and one sensillum chaeticum. The uniporous peg sensilla are innervated by 4-5 bipolar neurons that send dendrites in the lumen of each peg. Three neurons are associated with each sensillum chaeticum, two neurons have dendrites in the lumen of the sensillum, and the third dendrite ends in a tubular body at the base of the sensillum. Behavioral tests that involve chemical blockage of the sensory receptors show the importance of the labial sensilla in feeding behavior. Both morphological and behavioral evidence indicate that the labial sensilla have a chemosensitive function.

Aneuploidy in pluripotent stem cells and implications for cancerous transformation

Owing to a unique set of attributes, human pluripotent stem cells （hPSCs） have emerged as a promising cell source for regenerative medicine, disease modeling and drug discovery. Assurance of genetic stability over long term maintenance of hPSCs is pivotal in this endeavor, but hPSCs can adapt to life in culture by acquiring non-random genetic changes that render them more robust and easier to grow. In separate studies between 12.5% and 34% of hPSC lines were found to acquire chromosome abnormalities over time, with the incidence increasing with passage number. The predominant genetic changes found in hPSC lines involve changes in chromosome number and structure （particularly of chromosomes 1, 12, 17 and 20）, remi- niscent of the changes observed in cancer cells. In this review, we summarize current knowledge on the causes and consequences of aneuploidy in hPSCs and highlight the potential links with genetic changes observed in human cancers and early embryos. We point to the need for comprehensive characterization of mechanisms underpinning both the acquisition of chromosomal abnormalities and selection pressures, which allow mutations to persist in hPSC cultures. Elucidation of these mechanisms will help to design culture conditions that minimize the appearance of aneuploid hPSCs. Moreover, aneuploidy in hPSCs may provide a unique platform to analyse the driving for- ces behind the genome evolution that may eventually lead to cancerous transformation.

Variable retention in Tasmania, Australia: trends over 16 years of monitoring and adaptive management

Cross-Polarized GPR Imaging of Fracture Flow Channeling

Ground penetrating radar（GPR） can be used to image fractures and monitor fluid flow in the subsurface. Conventional GPR imaging uses single-polarization, co-polarized acquisition. We examine the use of cross-polarized GPR signals for imaging flow channeling in a discrete horizontal fracture. Numerical modeling（FDTD） demonstrates that when the fracture channel is oriented at an oblique angle to the survey line, depolarization of the GPR signal results in scattered energy along the cross-polarized components. When the channel is oriented parallel or orthogonal to the survey line, all scattered energy is captured by the co-polarized components and no signal is present in the cross-polarized orientation. Multipolarization, time-lapse 3D GPR field data were acquired at the Altona Flat Rock test site in New York State. The GPR surveys were conducted during background fresh fracture water conditions and during a natural gradient saline tracer test which was used to highlight flow channels along a sub-horizontal fracture. Amplitude analysis of the cross-polarized data reveals flow channeling that is in agreement with the co-polarized GPR images and with independent hydraulic tests. This investigation demonstrates that cross-polarized components of GPR signals can be used to enhance imaging of flow channels in fractured media.

A possible anorthositic continent of early Mars and the role of planetary size for the inception of Earth-like life

The Moon has an anorthositic primordial continental crust. Recently anorthosite has also been discovered on the Martian surface. Although the occurrence of anorthosite is observed to be very limited in Earth＇s extant geological record,both lunar and Martian surface geology suggest that anorthosite may have comprised a primordial continent on the early Earth during the first 600 million years after its formation. We hypothesized that differences in the presence of an anorthositic continent on an Earthlike planet are due to planetary size. Earth likely lost its primordial anorthositic continent by tectonic erosion through subduction associated with a kind of proto-plate tectonics（PPT）. In contrast, Mars and the Moon, as much smaller planetary bodies, did not lose much of their anorthositic continental crust because mantle convection had weakened and/or largely stopped, and with time, they had appropriately cooled down. Applying this same reasoning to a super-Earth exoplanet suggests that, while a primordial anorthositic continent may briefly form on its surface, such a continent will be likely transported into the deep mantle due to intense mantle convection immediately following its formation. The presence of a primordial continent on an Earth-like planet seems to be essential to whether the planet will be habitable to Earth-like life. The key role of the primordial continent is to provide the necessary and sufficient nutrients for the emergence and evolution of life. With the appearance of a ＂trinity＂ consisting of（1） an atmosphere,（2） an ocean, and（3） the primordial continental landmass, material circulation can be maintained to enable a ＂Habitable Trinity＂ environment that will permit the emergence of Earth-like life. Thus, with little likelihood of a persistent primordial continent, a super-Earth affords very little chance for Earth-like life to emerge.

Rural Community Variation in Physician RecruitmentReadiness

The capacity at which a rural community can mobilize resources involved in recruiting physicians has positive implicationsfor community health. The purpose of this study was to assess whether rural communities varied in their physician recruitmentreadiness. Methods： The Critical Access Hospital Community Apgar Questionnaire （CAH CAQ） was the instrument used in this *** one （71） rural communities in five US states who participated in the Community Apgar Program were included in this researchIn each rural community, the administrator of the critical access hospital and the physician/clinician with recruiting responsibilitiesparticipated individually in a structured interview. A total of 71 administrators and 71 physician/clinicians participated in the study（total N = 142）. Cumulative Community Apgar scores were calculated for each rural community. Descriptive statistics were calculatedfor this measure including means, standard deviations and coefficient of variations. No statistical differences were discerned acrossstate mean cumulative Community Apgar scores. Cumulative Community Apgar scores demonstrated variability within states and inthe aggregate across states. The five rural states included in this study showed similar distributions/patterns of cumulative CommunityApgar scores within their respective states. These distributions/patterns demonstrated variability in the cumulative Community Apgarscores in every state. Likewise, the aggregate distribution of cumulative Community Apgar scores demonstrated variability across thefive states. These rural communities vary in their physician recruitment readiness as measured by the CAH CAQ. As such,improvement efforts need to be customized for the specifics of the individual community. One size does not fit all.
