Projected increases in population exposure of daily climate extremes in eastern China by 2050

Climate extremes pose severe threats to human health,economic stability and environmental sustainability,especially in densely populated areas.It is generally believed that global warming drives increase in frequency,intensity and duration of climate extremes,and socioeconomic exposure plays a dominant role in climate impacts.In order to promote climate risk governance at regional level,the historical and projected trends in the population exposure to climate extremes are quantified in eastern China using downscaled climate simulations and population growth scenarios.The frequency of temperature extremes(tx35days)is projected to more than double by 2050 in nearly half of prefecture-level cities in eastern China,leading to an 81.8%increment of total exposure under SSP2-4.5 scenario.The increasing trend is also detectable in the frequency of precipitation extremes(r20mm)in eastern China,and the exposure increment is projected to be 22.9%by 2050,with a near equivalent contributions of both climate change and population growth.Spatially,temperature exposure mainly grows in southern Hebei,western Shandong and inland Guangdong provinces,while precipitation exposure raises principally in southeast coastal areas of China.Based on the historical baseline and projected amplification of population exposure,we identify some hotspot cities such as Guangzhou,Shanghai,Dongguan and Hangzhou that response to climate change dramatically and confront greater potential risk of climate extremes in the coming future.

Amorphous hybrid tungsten oxide–nickel hydroxide nanosheets used as a highly efficient electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction

There are more challenges for alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)via simultaneously expediting the electron-coupled water dissociation process(Volmer step)and the following electrochemical H_(2) desorption(Heyrovsky step).Hybrid amorphous electrocatalysts are highly desirable for efficient hydrogen evolution from water-alkali electrolyzers due to the bifunctionality for the different elementary steps of HER and optimal interactions with water molecules and the reactive hydrogen intermediates(Had).Herein,the synthesis of amorphous hybrid ultrathin(tungsten oxide/nickel hydroxide)hydrate(a-[WO_(3)/Ni(OH)_(2)]·0.2H_(2)O)nanosheets on nickel foam(NF)for efficient alkaline HER is described.The structural and composition features of a-[WO_(3)/Ni(OH)_(2)]·0.2H_(2)O are characterized in detailed.The resulting a-[WO_(3)/Ni(OH)_(2)]·0.2H_(2)O/NF electrocatalyst with the synergistic effect of both hybrid components for the HER elementary steps shows greatly improved the activity and durability for the HER with a low overpotential of-41 and-163 mV at-10 and-500 mA·cm^(-2),respectively,a Tafel slope as low as-72.9 mV·dec^(-1),and long-term stability of continuous electrolysis for at least 150 h accompanying by inappreciable overpotential change in 1 M KOH.In the hybrid a-[WO_(3)/Ni(OH)_(2)]·0.2H_(2)O,Ni(OH)_(2) and WO_(3) moieties are separately responsible for accelerating dissociative adsorption of water and weakening Had adsorption strength,which is beneficial to the improvement of the alkaline HER activity.

Emerging clinical relevance of microbiome in cancer:promising biomarkers and therapeutic targets

The profound influence of microbiota in cancer initiation and progression has been under the spotlight for years,leading to numerous researches on cancer microbiome entering clinical evaluation.As promising biomarkers and therapeutic targets,the critical involvement of microbiota in cancer clinical practice has been increasingly appreciated.Here,recent progress in this field is reviewed.We describe the potential of tumor-associated microbiota as effective diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers,respectively.In addition,we highlight the relationship between microbiota and the therapeutic efficacy,toxicity,or side effects of commonly utilized treatments for cancer,including chemotherapy,radiotherapy,and immunotherapy.Given that microbial factors influence the cancer treatment outcome,we further summarize some dominating microbial interventions and discuss the hidden risks of these strategies.This review aims to provide an overview of the applications and advancements of microbes in cancer clinical relevance.

A Simplified Method for the Stress Analysis of Underground Transfer Structures Crossing Multiple Subway Tunnels

According to the design specifications,the construction of extended piles involves traversing the tunnel’s upper region and extending to the underlying rock layer.To address this challenge,a subterranean transfer structure spanning multiple subway tunnels was proposed.Deliberating on the function of piles in the transfer structure as springs with axial and bending stiffness,and taking into account the force balance and deformation coordination conditions of beams and plates within the transfer structure,we established a simplified mechanical model that incorporates soil stratification by combining it with the Winkler elastic foundation beam model.The resolved established simplifiedmechanicalmodel employed finite difference technology and the Newton-Simpsonmethod,elucidating the mechanical mechanism of the transfer structure.The research findings suggest that the load carried by the upper structural columns can be transferred to the pile foundation beneath the beams through the transfer structure,subsequently reaching the deep soil layer and ensuring minimal impact on adjacent tunnels.The established simplified analysis method can be used for stress analysis of the transfer structure,concurrently considering soil stratification,pile foundation behavior,and plate action.The pile length,pile section size,and beam section size within the transfer structure should account for the characteristics of the upper load,ensuring an even distribution of the beam bending moment.

To evaluate the impact of zinc sulfate(ZnSO_(4)) concentration on the structural properties of the films,Cd_(1-x)Zn_(x)S thin films were formed on glass substrates using chemical bath deposition(CBD) in this study.The effect of ZnSO_(4) precursor concentration on the surface morphology,optical properties,and morphological structure of the Cd_(1-x)Zn_(x)S films was investigated.To study the impact of zinc doping content on the performance metrics of Cu(In_(1-x)Ga_(x))Se_(2)(CIGS)cells in the experimental group and to improve the buffer layer thickness,simulations were run using one-dimensional solar cell capacitance simulator(SCAPS-1D) software.

Particle Swarm Optimization Bat Algorithm Path Automatically Planning Research for Police Drones in Hilly Cities

Mountain cities are complex asymmetric dynamic network architectures,and the flight of UAVs in this environment is subject to various constraints,while efficiency is a crucial factor in the trajectory planning of police UAVs,which need to maintain high efficiency and safe flight paths between their starting and ending points,but the traditional trajectory planning method cannot meet the requirements of rapid maneuvering of police UAVs.To achieve this,a 3D terrain map is built,an objective function is established for the flight cost in the UAV trajectory planning process,and a planning algorithm called particle swarm optimization bat algorithm(PSOBA)is proposed.PSOBA combines the characteristics of the bat algorithm(BA)and the particle swarm optimization algorithm(PSO)to improve population diversity and resolve the delayed convergence issue in the last phases of BA.Simulation results show that PSOBA is more effective than BA,with a search time for the best solution that is approximately 20.43%shorter and a convergence value of the objective function that is approximately 38%smaller.PSOBA is also able to plan a quicker,shorter,and safer flight path compared to other trail planning algorithms that enhance the bat algorithm.These findings suggest that PSOBA is a powerful algorithm with potential application value in UAV trajectory planning control in the mobile intelligence era.Contribute to the service of public social security.

Site-specific incorporation of reduction-controlled guest amino acids into proteins for cucurbituril recognition

Protein recognition using host-guest recognition approach is of great interest but has been limited mainly to the protein N-terminal residues.Here,we site-specific incorporated two novel non-canonical amino acids containing supramolecular guest motifs into protein via an expanded genetic code.Through Staudinger reduction reactions,the encoded unnatural residues on protein becoming activated and can be specifically recognized by cucurbit[7]uril(CB[7])and cucurbit[8]uril(CB[8]).We demonstrated that enzyme containing guest amino acid incorporated near the active site can be reversibly regulated by CB[7]recognition,and CB[8]recognition induces protein dimerization.These amino acids will make useful addition to the supramolecular toolbox for protein targeting using molecular recognition approaches.

Efficient and rapid capture of uranium(Ⅵ) in wastewater via multiamine modified β-cyclodextrin porous polymer

It is quite important to ensure the safety and sustainable development of nuclear energy for the treatment of radioactive wastewater. To treat radioactive wastewater efficiently and rapidly, two multi-amine β-cyclodextrin polymers(diethylenetriamine β-cyclodextrin polymer(DETA-TFCDP) and triethylenetetramine β-cyclodextrin polymer(TETA-TFCDP)) were prepared and applied to capture uranium. Results exhibited that DETA-TFCDP and TETA-TFCDP displayed the advantages of high adsorption amounts(612.2and 628.2 mg·g-1, respectively) and rapid adsorption rates, which can reach(88 ± 1)% of their equilibrium adsorption amounts in 10 min. Moreover, the adsorbent processes of DETA-TFCDP and TETATFCDP on uranium(Ⅵ) followed the Langmuir model and pseudo-second-order model, stating they were mainly chemisorption and self-endothermic. Besides, TETA-TFCDP also showed excellent selectivity in the presence of seven competing cations and could be effectively reused five times via Na2CO3as the desorption reagent. Meanwhile, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy illustrated that the enriched multi-amine groups and oxygen-containing functional groups on the surface of TETA-TFCDP were the main active sites for capturing uranium(Ⅵ). Hence, multi-amine β-cyclodextrin polymers are a highly efficient, rapid, and promising adsorbent for capturing uranium(Ⅵ)from radioactive wastewater.

Silicon photonic spectrometer with multiple customized wavelength bands

A silicon photonic spectrometer with multiple customized wavelength bands is developed by introducing multiple channels of wideband optical filters based on multimode waveguide gratings(MWGs)for pre-filtering and the corresponding thermally tunable narrowband filter for high resolution.For these multiple customized wavelength bands,the central wavelengths,bandwidths,and resolutions are designed flexibly as desired,so that the system is simplified and the footprint is minimized for several practical applications(e.g.,gas sensing).A customized silicon photonic spectrometer is designed and demonstrated experimentally with four wavelength bands centered around1310 nm,1560 nm,1570 nm,and 1930 nm,which is,to the best of our knowledge,the first on-chip spectrometer available for sensing multiple gas components like HF,CO,H_(2)S,and CO_(2).The spectral resolutions of the four wavelength bands are 0.11 nm,0.08 nm,0.08 nm,and 0.37 nm,respectively.Such a customized silicon photonic spectrometer shows great potential for various applications,including gas monitors,wearable biosensors,and portable spectral-domain optical coherence tomography.

Ultrathin surface coating of Cu enabling long-life Zn metal anodes

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries （AZIBs） are regarded as promising energy storage devices due to their low cost,high capacity,and ecological safety.Nevertheless,the severe dendritic growth and side reactions hinder their practical applicability significantly.Herein,an ultrathin Cu coating layer （～200 nm） is decorated on zinc foils via filtered cathodic vacuum arc deposition technology,aiming to achieve high-performance AZIBs.The Cu layer effectively suppresses chemical corrosion and hydrogen evolution reactions and enables preferential （002） Zn deposition during the stripping/plating cycles.Consequently,the Cu@Zn anode represents an elongated cycle life over 4,000 h at 2 mA·cm-2/2 mAh·cm-2.Even in conditions of high current density of 5 and 10 mA·cm-2,the Cu@Zn anode shows prolonged cycling stability exceeding 4000 and 2000 h,respectively.Such advantages also bring high Coulombic efficiency of 99.87% under 5 mAh·cm-2in Cu@Ti||Zn half-cell over 1500 cycles.Moreover,the Cu@Zn||MnO2full cell demonstrates a superior cyclability with a specific capacity of 203 mAh·g-1after 500 cycles a1 A·g-1.
