Type 2 epithelial mesenchymal transition in vivo： truth or pitfalls？

Epithelial-mesenchymal transition （EMT） is a process by which fully differentiated epithelial cells undergo a phenotypic conversion and assume a mesenchymal cell phenotype, including elongated morphology, enhanced migratory and invasiveness capacity, and greatly increased production of extracellular matrix （ECM） components. The EMTs associated with wound healing, tissue regeneration, and organ fibrosis are termed as type 2 EMT. Over the past two decades, emerging evidence suggested that injured epithelial cells, via type 2 EMT, may serve as important sources of fibroblasts and contribute to organ fibrosis, such as kidney, liver, lung and eyes. There is perhaps no doubt that adult epithelial cells can undergo EMT in vitro in response to transforming growth factor （TGF）-131 and other inflammatory or pro-fibrotic stimuli. However, whether type 2 EMT really occurs in vivo, whethers it is actually a source of functional and activated interstitial fibroblasts and whether it contributes to tissue fibrosis have already been the subjects of heated debate. In this review, we will describe the main features of EMT, the major findings of type 2 EMT in vitro, the evidences for and against type 2 EMT in vivo and discuss the heterogeneity and pitfalls of the techniques used to detect EMT during fibrotic diseases. We suggest that in order to ascertain the existence of type 2 EMT in vivo, different proper phenotype markers of epithelial and mesenchymal cells should be jointly used and cell lineage tracking techniques should be standardized and avoid false positives. Finally, we believe that if EMT really occurs and contributes to tissue fibrosis, efforts should be made to block or reverse EMT to attenuate fibrotic process.

An outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)has caught global attention and caused enormous damage.2019 novel coronavirus,also known as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),shares remarkable homology with severe acute respiratory syndrome(SARS)coronavirus and Middle East respiratory syndrome(MERS)*** the follow-up studies,62%of SARS and 33%of MERS patients,who tended to be older and have longer intensive care unit admissions,had radiographic evidence of pulmonary fibrosis(PF)after hospital discharge.11,21 The repercussions of COVID-19 may also lead to PF,impair pulmonary function,and threaten life quality.

　针对在时间多尺度条件下制造系统同时具有离散和连续事件,经典的极大代数方法已经不能描述连续事件问题,提出了一种基于混杂时间Petri网的建模方法,通过建立一个新型的双子代数系统,把混杂时间Petri网模型转化为极大代数模型.在极大代数模型基础上,借鉴自动机理论和格理论,通过定义保并映射和保交映射等概念,提出了一种监控器设计方法.这样我们可以继续在极大代数框架下研究时间多尺度条件下制造系统的建模和控制.一个简单的示例说明了极大代数方法的有效性.

Respiratory medicine in China has made great .progress in the past decades. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease （COPD） alone affects 8.2% of people aged 40 and over; nearly 43 million people in China.1 Respiratory diseases, excluding lung cancer, cor pulmonale and respiratory tuberculosis （TB）, are the 4th leading cause of death in China.2

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis(IPF)is a chronic,progressive,and generally fatal fibrotic lung disease with a median survival of 2 to 3 years after diagnosis.[1,2]Acute exacerbation of IPF(AE-IPF)is defined as an acute,clinically significant respiratory deterioration characterized by evidence of new widespread alveolar *** 46%of deaths in IPF are caused by AE-IPF,and the median survival of patients with AE-IPF is approximately 3 to 4 months.[3]Over the past 27 years,great efforts have been paid to find therapies that might work for patients with this *** herein summarize current therapies for patients with AE-IPF.

采用极大代数方法研究混杂时间事件图(HTEG)的最小初始标志问题.通过构造新型的双子代数系统,给出了HTEG的线性极大代数模型,并基于该模型诱导出偏序关系.利用这个极大代数系统及其偏序关系的单调性、可逆性等性质,提出了一种HTEG最小初始标志的计算方法.HTEG的标志往往表示系统资源,提出的最小初始标志计算方法是一种最小资源分配算法,适用于制造系统、计算机网络等人造系统.最后用一个简单的实例说明了该方法的正确性.

Sarcoidosis is a systemic granulomatous disease of unknown cause. It commonly affects young to middle-aged adults and frequently presents with bilateral hilar lymphadenopathy, pulmonary infiltration, and ocular and skin lesions. Pleural involvement is relatively uncommon. Pneumothorax is a rare complication of sarcoidosis, occurring usually in the late fibrotic stages of the disease with associated bullous changes. There are only scattered case reports on pneumothorax as the first manifestation of sarcoidosis in medical literature. The present case study reports a young man who presented first with recurrent spontaneous pneumothorax during the early stage and relapse of sarcoidosis.

To the Editor： Chronic obstructive puhnonary disease （COPD） is a common preventable and treatable disease, characterized by persistent and progressive airflow limitation due to abnormal inflammation in the airways and lung to noxious particles or gases. Exacerbation of COPD is rarely induced by foreign body aspiration. In the present report, we described a male patient with acute exacerbation of COPD caused by foreign body aspiration.
