Enhanced Removal of Arsenite from Ground Water by Adsorption onto heat-Treated Rice husk

The effect of heat treatment for rice husk was investigated on the removal of arsenite in ground water by the adsorption onto the rice husk surface. The heat treatment was performed at the temperature from 80oC to 300oC in the closed system under anoxic environment. The continuous adsorption column method was applied for the removal of arsenite. The removal efficiency (75%) with rice husk treated at 150oC was better compared to those (54%) obtained with untreated rice husk. Therefore, the heat treatment of rice husk at relatively low temperature was effective for the enhancement of arsenic removal from water. The treatment conditions of As removal from aqueous solution were optimized. The developed treatment technique was applied into the real ground water sample in Bangladesh. The As concentration in sample water after treatment was approximately 18 and 8 μg/L, which was below the WhO guideline value of maximum admissible level of arsenic in ground water for Bangladesh (50 μg/L). The developed technique might become a potential avenue for simple and low cost arsenic removal methods.

The metal-doping into the photocatalyst was evaluated for the photocatalytic degradation of bisphenol A in aqueous solution with ZnO powder. Au/ZnO, Ag/ZnO and Cu/ZnO were tested in the present work. Ag-doping ZnO was effective for the improvement of efficiency for the photocatalytic degradation of bisphenol A in water. The optimum doping concentration of silver was found to be 3 wt%. The pseudo first-order rate constant with 3 wt% Ag/ZnO was 1.3 times better compared with bare ZnO. The photocatalytic degradation of treatment for the wastewater containing bisphenol A is simple, easy handling and low cost.

This exploratory research aims to evaluate indoor environmental quality in the classrooms of three school buildings in Southern Manitoba,Canada,and to evaluate the well-being of these schools’teachers as it pertains to their perception of their classrooms’indoor *** schools include a middle-aged,conventional school;a new,non-green school;and a new,green school certified using the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rating *** methodology involved using a mobile instrument cart to conduct snapshot measurements of thermal comfort,indoor air quality,lighting and acoustics in classrooms and an occupant survey to evaluate teachers’long-term satisfaction with their classrooms’indoor environmental *** results showed that the new,green and new,non-green schools’classrooms performed better than the conventional,middle-aged school’s classrooms with respect to some aspects of thermal comfort and indoor air quality *** in the new,green school and in the new,non-green school were more satisfied than teachers in the conventional,middle-aged school with their classrooms’overall indoor environmental quality,lighting quality and indoor air ***,the new,green and new-non green school classrooms’performance were very comparable with the new,green school’s classrooms performing statistically significantly better with respect to relative ***,none of the differences in teachers’satisfaction ratings between the new,green and new,non-green school were statistically significant.

Retting has been employed to extract natural fibers from agricultural wastes as a biological and cost-effective approach for *** its global abundance,banana pseudo-stem is a promising agro-waste for lignocellulosic fiber *** this study,fibers were extracted from the pseudo-stems after being pre-treated under four conditions using seawater at room temperature for up to 35 d Bacterial isolation from the fresh seawater sample and screening for ligninolytic ability were *** load as well as laccase and manganese peroxidase enzyme activity profile assay during the retting duration were *** transform infrared(FT-IR)and X-day diffraction(XRD)analyses were also examined for both pre-treated and untreated extracted *** results shows that six out of the eight bacterial isolates had the ability to degrade *** treatments(Raw stem+Raw seawater)and(Autoclaved stem+Raw seawater)recorded the highest viable bacterial load of 9.24×102 and 4.46×102 CFU,respectively,on the 14th day of the retting ***,the highest laccase and manganese peroxidase enzymes activity was recorded for(Raw stem+Raw seawater)and(Autoclaved stem+Raw seawater)treatments in the second to the third *** FT-IR spectra of the pre-treated fibers revealed relative reductions in peaks attributed to polysaccharides and other amorphous substances for all retting *** XRD diffractogram revealed that the crystallinity index(CI)of pre-treated fibers increased in all seawater retting treatment ***,the CI for fibers pre-treated under enzymatic conditions were enhanced even after five *** analysis for selected bacterial isolates showed homology to sequences of Bacillus velezensis,Shewanella sp.L8–5,and Citrobacter amalonaticus and Bacillus subtilis j8 *** these findings,it was suggested that physical,biological,and chemical actions were collectively involved in the seawater retting process of banana ps

Metaheuristic approaches in cloud computing have shown significant results due to theirmulti-objective *** approaches are now considering hybridmetaheuristics combining the relative optimized benefits of two or more algorithms resulting in the least tradeoffs among several *** critical factors such as execution time,throughput time,response time,energy consumption,SLA violations,communication overhead,makespan,and migration time need careful attention while designing such dynamic *** improve such factors,an optimizedmulti-objective hybrid algorithm is being proposed that combines the relative advantages of Cat Swarm Optimization(CSO)with machine learning classifiers such as Support Vector Machine(SVM).The adopted approach is based on SVMone to many classification models of machine learning that performs the classifications of various data format types in the cloud with best *** CSO,grouping phase is used to divide the data files as audio,video,image,and text which is further extended by polynomial Kernel function based on various input features and used for optimized load ***,proposed approach works well and achieved performance efficiency in evaluated QoS metrics such as average energy consumption by 12%,migration time by 9%,and optimization time by 10%,in the presence of competitor baselines.

The present work was done in order to develop and find out suitable conversion methods for coconut husk wastes into value-added products. It is well-known that coconuts husk waste is hydrophobic therefore ethanol with different doses was used as a surfactant to enhance the removal efficiency. Treated samples at different adsorbent amounts, sintering temperatures & sintering time, stirring time, ph, and solution temperatures for color removal of Methylene Blue (MB) & Rhodamine B (RhB) and ammonium concentration were evaluated by using UV-Visible Spectroscopy. At 300°C, results showed complete removal for MB and more than 75% for RhB, whereas removal of ammonium ion reached around 52% when sintering product from husk waste was used. Further investigation was carried out for ammonium ion to understand the desorption kinetic behaviors and isotherm models. Kinetics indicated that desorption of ammonium ion followed pseudo-first order equation. Adsorption thermodynamic parameters such as ΔG, Δh, and ΔS followed Van’t hoff plot for adsorption and found to be negative which indicated that the adsorption process for ammonium onto coconut husk was physical, spontaneous and exothermic.
