An Iterative Relaxation Approach to the solution of the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman-Isaacs Equation in Nonlinear Optimal Control

In this paper, we propose an iterative relaxation method for solving the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman-Isaacs equation(HJBIE) arising in deterministic optimal control of affine nonlinear systems. Local convergence of the method is established under fairly mild assumptions, and examples are solved to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method. An extension of the approach to Lyapunov equations is also d.s.ussed. The preliminary results presented are promising, and it is hoped that the approach will ultimately develop into an efficient computational tool for solving the HJBIEs.

Emissions of Er3+ and Yb3+ co-doped.s.ZrO3 nanocrystals under near-infrared and near-ultraviolet excitations

In this study,the upconversion(UC)emissions of Er3+and Yb3+co-doped.s.ZrO3 nanocrystals(NCs)were investigated in terms of the thermal annealing temperature and concentration of Er3+ions and compared with the emissions under a near-ultraviolet(near-UV)*** NCs were synthesized by the combustion method,and the as-synthesized NCs were post-annealed at high *** X-ray diffraction patterns revealed that the grain sizes and crystallinity degrees of the samples increased with increasing annealing *** photoluminescence spectra of our samples exhibited.s.rong green and very weak red emissions with the near-UV excitation,originating from the f-f transitions in the Er3+***,under near-infrared(near-IR)excitation,we identified.s.zable visible emissions at 525,547,and 660 nm in our NCs,which indicated that the UC process successfully occurred in our *** UC emissions were maximized in the NCs with an Er3+concentration of 0.02 and thermal annealing at 1000°*** found that the intensity ratios of red to green emissions increased with increasing annealing *** d.s.ussed the differences in the emissions between near-UV and near-IR excitations.

Generalized megaviscera of lupus:Refractory intestinal pseudo-obstruction,ureterohydronephrosis and megacholedochus

dilated d.s.unction involving multiple visceral organs has been reported in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus （sLE）. Chronic intestinal pseudoobstruction （CIPO） resulting from intestinal smooth muscle damage has presented in conjunction with ureterohydronephrosis and, more rarely, biliary dilatation （megacholedochus）. While the molecular pathogenesis is largely unknown, observed histopathologic features include wid.s.read myositis, myocyte necrosis in the intestinal muscularis propria with subsequent atrophy and fibrosis, preserved myenteric innervations and little vasculitis. High d.s. immunosuppression usually results in resolution of symptoms with recovery of smooth muscle function, indicative of an autoimmune etiology. We report a patient with sLE who presented with intestinal pseudo-obstruction, ureterohydronephrosis and megacholedochus, and present images that illustrate megaviscera simultaneously involving all 3 visceral organs. since the co-manifestation of all 3 is unusual and has been reported only once previously, we have termed this rare clinical syndrome generalized megaviscera of lupus （GML）. Although the sLE d.s.ase-activity parameters responded to aggressive immunomodulative therapy in our patient, clinical evidence of peristaltic d.s.unction persisted in all involved viscera. This is a variation from the favorable outcomes reported previously in sLE patients with GML and we attribute this poor clinical outcome to d.s.ase severity and, most importantly, delayed clinical presentation. since inflammation followed by atrophy and fibrosis are key aspects in the pathogenesis and natural history of GML, the poor response in our patient who presented late in the clinical course may be the result of ＇burnt out＇ inflammation with irreversible end.s.age fibrosis. Thus, early recognition and timely initiation of treatment may be the key to recover visceral peristaltic function in patients with GML.

Effect of si Content on Mechanical Properties of a Mo and V Free Low Alloy Cast steel for Automobile Cold Pressing die

The effects of si content on combinations of important properties such as hardness, hardenability, and weldability in addition to strength increment were systematically investigated to develop a Mo and V free low alloy cast steel for automobile cold pressing die insert. For the evaluation of the applicability as the die insert, the mechanical properties were measured after spheroidization annealing （sA）, quenching and tempering （Q/T）, and flame hardening （FH） treatments, respectively. The developed 0.8%-1.6%si containing Mo and V free alloy cast steels showed excellent matrix strengthening effect, hardenability, and weldability, fulfilling the ind.s.rial criterion of the mechanical properties for the die insert.

High-quality single-crystal Cdse nanoribbons and their optical properties

Large-scale synthesis of single-crystal Cdse nanoribbons is achieved by a modified thermal evaporation method, in which two-step-thermal-evaporation is used to control Cdse sources＇ evaporation. The synthesized Cdse nanoribbons are usually several micrometers in width, 50 nm in thickness, and tens to several hundred micrometers in length. studies have shown that high-quality Cdse nanoribbons with regular shapes can be obtained by this method. Room-temperature photolumines-cence indicates that the lasing emission at 710 nm has been observed under optical pumping （266 nm） at power densities of 25-153 kW/cm^2. The full width half maximum （FWHM） of the lasing mode is 0.67 nm

Evaluation of carbon-based nanosorbents synthesised by ethylene decomposition on stainless steel substrates as potential sequestrating materials for nickel ions in aqueous solution

The present work covers the preparation of carbon-based nanosorbents by ethylene decomposition on stainless steel mesh without the use of external catalyst for the treatment of water containing nickel ions （Ni2＋）. The reaction temperature was varied from 650 to 850℃, while reaction time and ethylene to nitrogen flow ratio were maintained at 30 rain and 1：1 cma/min, respectively. Results show that nanosorbents synthesised at a reaction temperature of 650℃ had the smallest average diameter （75 nm）, largest BET surface area （68.95 m2/g） and least amount of impurity （0.98 wt.% Fe）. A series of batch sorption tests were performed to evaluate the effects of initial pH, initial metal concentration and contact time on Ni2~ removal by the nanosorbents. The equilibrium data fitted well to Freundlich isotherm. The kinetic data were best correlated to a pseudo second-order model indicating that the process was of chemisorption type. Further analysis by the Boyd kinetic model revealed that boundary layer diffusion was the controlling step. This primary study suggests that the prepared material with Freundiich constants compared well with those in the literature, is a promising sorbent for the sequestration of Ni2＋ in aqueous solutions.

We used the high-resolution spectroscopy to study the interactions that Tm3＋ ion in a LiYF4 crystal is subjected to. several crystal field transitions with low integral intensity were found not registered before by means of ordinary spectroscopy. spectral evidences for interionic, hyperfine, isotopic interactions, and for a resonant broadening of the ground.s.ate are presented.

seismic fragility assessment of RC frame structure d.s.gned according to modern Chinese code for seismic d.s.gn of buildings

Following several damaging earthquakes in China, research has been devoted to find the causes of the collapse of reinforced concrete （RC） building sand.s.udying the vulnerability of existing buildings. The Chinese Code for seismic d.s.gn of Buildings （CCsdB） has evolved over time, however, there is still reported earthquake induced damage of newly d.s.gned RC buildings. Thus, to investigate modern Chinese seismic d.s.gn code, three low-, mid- and high-rise RC frames were d.s.gned according to the 2010 CCsdB and the corresponding vulnerability curves were derived by computing a probabilistic seismic demand model （PsdM）.The PsdM was computed by carrying out nonlinear time history analysis using thirty ground motions obtained from the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center. Finally, the PsdM was used to generate fragility curves for immediate occupancy, significant damage, and collapse prevention damage levels. Results of the vulnerability assessment indicate that the seismic demands on the three different frames d.s.gned according to the 2010 CCsdB meet the seismic requirements and are almost in the same safety level.
