This paper presents the results of the application of mathematical morphology for the automatic quantification of the number of tents and the detection of changes in the Menik Farm IdP camp in Sri *** tents were retrieved using an area-constraint top-hat opening applied to WorldView-1 *** counting of tents was based on the centroids of the automatically detected structures indicating an overall number of 25,150 tents on the 26 June *** comparison with a visual interpretation produced an R2 of 0.97 with an error of 1.25%.In addition,an automated detection of changes inside a camp area was *** comparison of the satellite image of 26 June 2009(WorldView-1)and an image of 28 February 2010(GeoEye-1)is based on mutual(mixed)information metric,after using morphological image processing techniques and previously specified *** are observed on a terrain of around 15.2%of the total camp area and 3813 of previously detected structures disappeared in a period of 8 months.

Using an array of coupled microwave resonators arranged in a deformed honeycomb lattice,we experimentally observe the formation of pseudo-Landau levels in the whole crossover from vanishing to large pseudomagnetic field *** result is achieved by utilising an adaptable setup in a geometry that is compatible with the pseudo-Landau levels at all field *** adopted approach enables us to observe the fully formed flat-band pseudo-Landau levels spectrally as sharp peaks in the photonic density of states and image the associated wavefunctions spatially,where we provide clear evidence for a characteristic nodal structure reflecting the previously elusive supersymmetry in the underlying low-energy *** particular,we resolve the full sublattice polarisation of the anomalous 0th pseudo-Landau level,which reveals a deep connection to zigzag edge states in the unstrained case.

A 3d forest monitoring system,called FORSAT(a satellite very high resolution image processing platform for forest assessment),was developed for the extraction of 3d geometric forest information from very high resolution(VHR)satellite imagery and the automatic 3d change *** is composed of two complementary tasks:(1)the geometric and radiometric processing of satellite optical imagery and digital surface model(dSM)reconstruction by using a precise and robust image matching approach specially designed for VHR satellite imagery,(2)3d surface comparison for change *** allows the users to import dSMs,align them using an advanced 3d surface matching approach and calculate the 3d differences and volume changes(together with precision values)between *** is a single source and flexible forest information solution,allowing expert and non-expert remote sensing users to monitor forests in three and four(time)*** geometric resolution and thematic content of VHR optical imagery are sufficient for many forest information needs such as deforestation,clear-cut and fire severity *** capacity and benefits of FORSAT,as a forest information system contributing to the sustainable forest management,have been tested and validated in case studies located in Austria,Switzerland and Spain.

Simulation of Fast Gas Injection Expansion Phase Experiments under different Pressures

The injection of a high pressure gas into a stagnant liquid pool is the characteristic phenomenon during the expansion phase of a hypothetical core disruptive accident in liquid metal cooled fast reactors. In order to investigate lots of mechanisms involved in this phase of the accident＇s evolution, an experimental campaign called S GI was performed in 1994 in Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, now KIT. This campaign consists of nine experiments which have been dedicated to assess the effects of different pressure injection, the nozzle＇s size and the presence of inner confinement in the formation of the rising bubble. Three of these experiments, which were focused on the pressure effects, have now been simulated with SIMMER III code and with FLUENT 6.3, a commercial CFd code. Both codes, despite their different features, have showed a good agreement with the experimental results. In particular, time trend evolutions of pressures and bubble volumes have been well reproduced by simulation. Furthermore, both codes agree on the shape of the bubble, even though they have evidenced same discrepancies with the experimental shape.

In this paper, we present the R & d activity on a new GEM-based Time Projection Chamber (GEM-TPC) detector for the inner region of the AMAdEUS experiment, which is aiming to perform measurements of low-energy negative kaon interactions in nuclei at the dAΦNE e+ e- collider at LNF-INFN. A novel idea of using a GEM-TPC as a low mass target and detector at the same time comes motivated by the need of studying the low energy interactions of K- with nuclei in a complete way, tracking and identifying all of the produced particles. Even more, what makes the experimental proposal revolutionary is the possibility of using different gaseous targets without any other substantial intervention on the experimental setup, making it a flexible multipurpose device. This new detection technique applied to the nuclear physics requires the use of low-radiation length materials and very pure light gases such as Hydrogen, deuterium, Helium-3, Helium-4, etc. In order to evaluate the GEM-TPC performances, a 10 × 10 cm2 prototype with a drift gap of 15 cm has been realized. The detector was tested at the πM1 beam facility of the Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI) with low momentum pions and protons. detection efficiency and spatial resolution, as a function of gas mixture, gas gain and ionazing particle, are reported and discussed.
