Optimization of fused deposition modeling process parameters using a fuzzy inference system coupled with Taguchi philosophy

Fused deposition modeling （FdM） is an additive manufacturing technique used to fabricate intricate parts in 3d, within the shortest possible time without using tools, dies, fixtures, or human intervention. This article empiri- cally reports the effects of the process parameters, i.e., the layer thickness, raster angle, raster width, air gap, part orientation, and their interactions on the accuracy of the length, width, and thicknes, of acrylonitrile-butadiene- styrene （ABSp 400） parts fabricated using the FdM tech- nique. It was found that contraction prevailed along the directions of the length and width, whereas the thickness increased from the desired value of the fabricated part. Optimum parameter settings to minimize the responses, such as the change in length, width, and thickness of the test specimen, have been determined using Taguchi＇s parameter design. Because Taguchi＇s philosophy fails to obtain uniform optimal factor settings for each response, in this study, a fuzzy inference system combined with the Taguchi philosophy has been adopted to generate a single response from three responses, to reach the specific target values with the overall optimum factor level settings. Further, Taguchi and artificial neural network predictive models are also presented in this study for an accuracy evaluation within the dimensions of the FdM fabricated parts, subjected to various operating conditions. The pre- dicted values obtained from both models are in good agreement with the values from the experiment data, with mean absolute percentage errors of 3.16 and 0.15, respectively. Finally, the confirmatory test results showed an improvement in the multi-response performance index of 0.454 when using the optimal FdM parameters over the initial values.

Welding sequence has a significant effect on distortion pattern of large orthogonally stiffened panels normally used in ships and offshore structures. These deformations adversely affect the subsequent fitup and alignment of the adjacent panels. It may also result in loss of structural integrity. These panels primarily suffer from angular and buckling distortions. The extent of distortion depends on several parameters such as welding speed, plate thickness, welding current, voltage, restraints applied to the job while welding, thermal history as well as sequence of welding. Numerical modeling of welding and experimental validation of the FE model has been carried out for estimation of thermal history and resulting distortions. In the present work an FE model has been developed for studying the effect of welding sequence on the distortion pattern and its magnitude in fabrication of orthogonally stiffened plate panels.

The present investigation deals with process analysis of oxy-acetylene flame assisted double pass line heating for varying plate thickness. oxy-acetylene flame as the heat source for multi pass line heating to achieve 3-d bending of plates with varying thicknesses was studied. The oxy-acetylene flame was modeled as the moving heat source in the FEM analysis. The transient thermal histories were predicted taking into account the temperature dependent thermo-mechanical properties. A comparative study between single pass and double pass line heating residual deformation was also carried out. The temperature distribution and residual deformations predicted by the numerical model developed in the present work compared fairly well with those of the experimental ones.

The Level and Role of Interleukin-17 in patients of Type 2 diabetes Mellitus with and without Complications

Background: Type 2 diabetes Mellitus (T2dM) is the most prevalent metabolic disorder in the world. Recent evidence however suggests that T2dM is not only a disease of metabolism, but also an inflammatory disorder and that inflammation also plays an important role in the pathogenesis of diabetic complications. Our aim was to study the level of interleukin-17 (IL 17) in Indian populations with T2dM as an inflammatory marker and analyze its role in different diabetic complications. Methods: A total of consecutive 67 patients of T2dM were evaluated for clinical parameters fasting blood glucose (FBG), 2hr-post-prandial blood glucose (ppBG), lipid profile, HbA1c and plasma IL 17. They were divided into three groups—patients of T2dM without any complications (group A;n = 24), T2dM with acute complications (group B;n = 20), T2dM with chronic complications (group C;n = 23) and compared with 23 healthy controls (group d). Results: diabetic patients had a higher level of IL 17 as compared to the healthy controls. The level of IL 17 in complicated diabetics was higher than the patients with T2dM without complications. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed positive correlation of IL 17 with diabetic Retinopathy and diabetic Neuropathy. IL 17 also showed a positive pearsons correlation with systolic blood pressure (SBp), diastolic blood pressure (dBp), serum triglycerides (TG), serum total cholesterol (TC), very low density lipoproteins (VLdL), low density lipoproteins (LdL), HbA1c and a negative correlation with HdL. Conclusion: Indian subjects with T2dM with or without complications had higher values of IL 17 as compared to healthy controls. Also diabetic neuropathy and diabetic retinopathy were positively correlated to levels of IL 17. Further levels of IL 17 were positively correlated to hypertension and dyslipidemia indicating a prevalent inflammatory state in our population of T2dM with and without complications.

Introduction: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLd) is a chronic liver disease ranging from liver steatosis to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Besides lifestyle modifications, Vitamin E (800 IU/day) is generally recommended for NASH. Vitamin E monotherapy is not sufficient for the multifaceted disease like NALFd. The combination of Vitamin E 400IU and Fraxinus excelsior 500 mg twice daily was found to be better than vitamin E 400 IU twice daily in improving the lipid profile and liver function parameters in patients with NAFLd. We conducted a study to assess safety and effectiveness of Vitamin E plus Fraxinus excelsior in Indian patients with NAFLd in real-world settings. patients and Methods: This was a non-interventional study in NAFLd patients with varying grades of steatosis conducted by 234 physicians across India from January 2018 to August 2018. patients received combination of Vitamin E (400 IU) and Fraxinus excelsior (500 mg) soft gelatin capsules twice daily after meals for 12 weeks. Effectiveness of the treatment was assessed at visit 2 (6 weeks) and visit 3 (12 weeks, end of study) from baseline. The parameters for assessment included severity of liver steatosis, liver function parameters and the global assessment of safety and effectiveness. Results: A total of 1114 patients were included in the study. At baseline, majority of the patients (71.18%) had Grade II liver steatosis followed by 21.01% and 7.81% patients who had Grade III and Grade I liver steatosis, respectively. After 12 weeks of treatment with vitamin E and Fraxinus excelsior combination, 21% patients had no steatosis, 58.79% patients were in Grade 1 steatosis, 19.57% in grade II steatosis and only 0.63% patients in Grade III steatosis. The mean percentage reduction in aspartate aminotransferase (AST) level at week 6 and week 12 from baseline was 24.92% and 43.79%, respectively. Effect of Ensiling on Nutritional properties of Sericea Lespedeza Alone or in Mixtures with Alfalfa

In this investigation,fresh sericea lespedeza(SL;Lespedeza cuneata)and alfalfa(Medicago sativa)were cut in the field,frozen,chopped and mixed into ratios of 100:0,75:25,50:50,25:75 and 0:100,respectively,with each treatment combination packed into 12 mini-silos and sealed to be *** mini-silos per treatment were opened after 1,7,21 and 84 d of ensiling and analyzed for pH,neutral detergent fiber(NdF),acid detergent fiber(AdF),and acid detergent lignin(AdL),unbound and bound condensed tannins(CT),nitrogen(N),nitrate N(NO3-N),and ammonia N(NH4+N)*** of the forage combinations ensiled well,with a rapid drop in pH(below 5.0 by day 7).Fiber concentrations(NdF,AdF,AdL)were greater in 75% and 100% SL silages than in 0%,25% and 50% SL samples by day 84 of the study,possibly due to interference of CT in the detergent analysis *** of N,NO3-N and NH4+N were decreased in silages as percentage SL in the mixture increased,while unbound,bound and total CT increased as percentage SL *** this study,there was reduced proteolysis during ensiling of combinations of SL and alfalfa,as indicated by reduced NO3-N and NH4+N production as percentage SL in the silage mixtures increased.
