Collagen,the most abundant structural protein in the human extracellular matrix(eCM),provides essential support for tissues and guides tissue *** its widespread use in tissue engineering,there remains uncertainty regarding the optimal selection of collagen ***-derived sources pose challenges such as immunogenicity,while the recombinant system is hindered by diminished *** this study,we hypothesized that human eCM-like collagen(hCol)could offer an alternative for tissue *** this study,a facile platform was provided for generating hCol derived from mesenchymal stem cells with a hierarchical structure and biochemical properties resembling native *** results further demonstrated that hCol could facilitate basal biological behaviors of human adipose-derived stem cells,including viability,proliferation,migration and adipocyte-like ***,it could promote cutaneous wound *** to its high similarity to native collagen and good bioactivity,hCol holds promise as a prospective candidate for in vitro and in vivo applications in tissue engineering.

Microbial electrosynthesis(MeS)converts CO_(2)into value-added products such as volatile fatty acids(VFAs)with minimal energy use,but low production titer has limited scale-up and *** electron transfer via H_(2)on the MeS cathode has shown a higher conversion rate than the direct biofilm-based approach,as it is tunable via cathode potential control and accelerates electrosynthesis from CO_(2).Here we report high acetate titers can be achieved via improved in situ H_(2)supply by nickel foam decorated carbon felt cathode in mixed community MeS *** concentration of 12.5 g L^(-1)was observed in 14 days with nickel-carbon cathode at a poised potential of-0.89 V(*** hydrogen electrode,SHe),which was much higher than cathodes using stainless steel(5.2 g L^(-1))or carbon felt alone(1.7 g L^(-1))with the same projected surface area.A higher acetate concentration of 16.0 g L^(-1)in the cathode was achieved over long-term operation for 32 days,but crossover was observed in batch operation,as additional acetate(5.8 g L^(-1))was also found in the abiotic anode *** observed the low Faradaic efficiencies in acetate production,attributed to partial H_(2)utilization for *** selective acetate production with high titer demonstrated in this study shows the H_(2)-mediated electron transfer with common cathode materials carries good promise in MeS development.

Food waste generation is a pressing issue that requires urgent attention and concerted efforts *** staggering amount of food wasted each year not only wastes valuable resources but also exacerbates environmental,economic,and social *** Waste Management(FWM)consists of a complex array of criteria and sub-criteria,and treatments which seems *** is a need to evaluate the FWM with the help of important criteria and sub-criteria and treatments to address this *** this study,we identified four important criteria,21 sub-criteria,and four alternatives of FWM for the case of Malaysia using the integrated approach of literature review and expert ***,we employed the approach of Modified Fuzzy Improved Analytical Hierarchy Process(IAHP)to corroborate the interrelationships among the identified criteria and sub-criteria,and their associated *** study undertakes linear normalization methods to transform data into comparable numerical values and the Geometric Mean method to handle uncertainty in human ***,the Centroid method is employed to convert fuzzy weights into crisp sets for ease of *** results indicate that environmental is the most essential criterion,followed by social,economic,and *** addition,air and water pollution is identified as the most critical *** Soldier Fly is discovered as the most sustainable FWM treatment,since it performs the best while meeting all the criteria and sub-criteria *** analysis demonstrates that the outputs from the proposed method are robust and *** finding suggests a proper and robust approach to help decision-makers select suitable FWM treatments to tackle various criteria and alternatives especially when handling inconsistent and uncertain judgments during evaluation.

This project reports on the use of a novel nanomembrane filtering technology to isolate and analyze the bioactivity of microplastic(MP)-containing debris from Lake Ontario water *** MPs are a complex mixture of polymers and sorbed chemicals that are persistent and can exhibit a wide range of toxic *** human exposure to MPs is unavoidable,it is necessary to characterize their bioactivity to assess potential health *** work seeks to quantify MP presence in the nearshore waters of Lake Ontario and begin to characterize the bioactivity of the filtrate containing *** utilized silicon nitride(SiN)nanomembrane technology to isolate debris sized between 8 and 20μm from lake water samples collected at various times and *** were identified with Nile red ***-based assays were conducted directly on the filtered debris to test for cell viability,aryl hydrocarbon receptor(AhR)activity,and interleukin 6(IL-6)levels as a measure of proinflammatory *** samples contained *** of the isolated debris impacted cell ***,AhR activity and IL-6 levels varied over ***,no associations were observed between the amount of plastic and *** differences in activity are likely due to variations in the physiochemical properties of debris between *** results highlight the need for increased sampling to fully characterize the bioactivity of MPs in human cells and to elucidate the role that sample physiochemical and spatiotemporal properties play in this activity.

This paper presents an investigation of brittle rock failure by the quaternion-based bonded-particle model in discrete element method(deM).Unlike traditional approaches that utilize euler angles or rotation matrices,this model employs unit quaternions to represent the spatial rotations of *** method simplifies the rep-resentation of 3d rotations,providing a more intuitive framework for modelling complex interactions in granular *** numerical model was validated by the uniaxial compression tests on rock,with good agreement with well-documented experimental data in terms of the rock uniaxial compression strength(UCS)and failure *** loading,the rock sample demonstrated a linear-elastic response at an axial strain of smaller than 0.45%.However,as internal bond breakage accumulated,this linear relationship weakened,and the stress-strain curve began to deviate from its initial linear *** bond breakage and the overall deformation of the rock were primarily controlled by the shear bonding *** UCS was achieved at an axial strain of 0.625%,at which point the internal shear bonding force chains were predominantly aligned *** brittle failure occurred when the internal damage of solids nucleated to form an interconnected failure plane,accompanied by a sharp rise in the internal damage *** area of failure plane increased with the loading strain rate,gradually transforming the failure pattern from the local damage to a complete fragmentation.
