Stability of plane-parallel flow of magnetic fluids under external magnetic fields

In this work,we present a theoretical study on the stability of a two-dimensional plane Poiseuille flow of magnetic fluids in the presence of externally applied magnetic *** fluids are assumed to be incompressible,and their magnetization is coupled to the flow through a simple phenomenological *** parameters are defined,and the equations are perturbed around the base *** eigenvalues of the linearized system are computed using a finite difference scheme and studied with respect to the dimensionless parameters of the *** examine the cases of both the horizontal and vertical magnetic *** obtained results indicate that the flow is destabilized in the horizontally applied magnetic field,but stabilized in the vertically applied *** characterize the stability of the flow by computing the stability diagrams in terms of the dimensionless parameters and determine the variation in the critical Reynolds number in terms of the magnetic ***,we show that the superparamagnetic limit,in which the magnetization of the fluids decouples from hydrodynamics,recovers the same purely hydrodynamic critical Reynolds number,regardless of the applied field direction and of the values of the other dimensionless magnetic parameters.

Sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas ) thrives in a wide range of climates and is high in fibre, vitamins and minerals. There is increasing evidence that sweet potato consumption can positively affect human health. This systematic review aimed to summarise nutritional-related health outcomes of sweet potato intake among healthy people and people with chronic diseases by reviewing human intervention trials. A total of 22 articles met the inclusion criteria, which examined the effects of sweet potato on vitamin A intakes and status (n = 8), glycemic markers and anthropometric parameters (n = 6), hepatic biomarkers (n = 3) and blood pressure (n = 1), iron absorption (n = 1), constipation (n = 1), nitrogen balance (n = 1), and sex hormones (n = 1). In the included studies, sweet potato consumption appears to improve vitamin A status, blood glucose levels, blood pressure, iron absorption, constipation, liver function and nitrogen balance. However, the evidence base is limited and future research in long-term, well-designed, randomised controlled trials are needed to establish cause-and-effect relationships with these health effects of sweet potato consumption. The functional properties of the bioactive compounds in sweet potatoes require further investigation to establish their ability to manage chronic disease when consumed in high amounts.

The aim of the present study was to compare the accuracy and reproducibility of six statistical models for the calculation of olive （Olea europeae L.） heat requirements to trigger the onset of flowering in three Portuguese regions： Reguengos de Monsaraz, Valenga do douro, and Braga. Other alms were to ascertain the date on which the heat-accumulation period started and the threshold temperatures above which the development of reproductive structures starts in olives. The starting and peak dates for the regional O. europeae flowering season were estimated by monitoring airborne pollen from 1998 to 2004 using ＂Cour＂- type samplers. The threshold temperature values calculated for the three regions were very similar （9.0 ℃ for Valenca do douro, 9.2 ℃ for Reguengos de Monsaraz, and 9.7 ℃ for Braga）. The accumulated daily mean temperature model had less interannual and inter-regional variation, showing best predictive results for 2004, with absolute differences between the observed and predicted dates of 4 d in Reguengos de Monsaraz and 2 d In Valenca do douro and Braga for the onset of flowering date and of 2 d In Reguengos de Monsaraz, 7 d in Valenca do douro, and 4 d in Braga for peak flowering dates. This model was the most accurate, reproducible, and operational to calculate heat requirements for olives to flower, with an average mean temperature accumulation of 1 446 ℃ In Reguengos, 1 642 ℃ in Valenga do douro, and 1 703℃ In Braga to reach the onset of flowering. The best initial date for this accumulation was 1 January.

The recognition of p-glucans by dectin-1 has been shown to mediate cell activation, cytokine production and a variety of antifungal responses. Here, we report that the functional activity of dectin-1 in mucosal immunity to Candida albicans is influenced by the genetic background of the host. dectin-1 was required for the proper control of gastrointestinal and vaginal candidiasis in C57BIJ6, but not BALB/c mice; in fact, the latter showed increased resistance in the absence of dectin-1. The susceptibility of dectin-l-deficient C57BL/6 mice to infection was associated with defects in IL-17A and aryl hydrocarbon receptor-dependent IL-22 production and in adaptive Th I responses. In contrast, the resistance of dectin- 1-deficient BALB/c mice was associated with increased IL-17A and IL-22 production and the skewing towards Thl/Treg immune responses that provide immunological memory. disparate canonical/ noncanonical NF-KB signaling pathways downstream of dectin-1 were activated in the two different mouse strains. Thus, the net activity of dectin-1 in antifungal mucosal immunity is dependent on the host＇s genetic background, which affects both the innate cytokine production and the adaptive Th1/Th17 cell activation upon dectin-1 signaling.

The discovery of Asgard archaea and the exploration of their diversity over the last 6 years have deeply impacted the scientific community working on eukaryogenesis,rejuvenating an intense debate on the topology of the universal tree of life(uTol).Here,we discuss how this debate is impacted by two recent publications that expand the number of Asgard lineages and eukaryotic signature proteins(ESPs).We discuss some of the main difficulties that can impair the phylogenetic reconstructions of the uTol and suggest that the debate about its topology is not *** notably hypothesize the existence of horizontal gene transfers between ancestral Asgards and proto-eukaryotes that could result in the observed abnormal behaviors of some Asgard ESPs and universal marker *** hypothesis is relevant regardless of the scenario considered regarding *** implies that the Asgards were already diversified before the last eukaryotic common ancestor and shared the same biotopes with *** suggest that some Asgards might be still living in symbiosis today with modern Eukarya.

The Egyptia n mon goose (Herpestes ichneumon Linn aeus, 1758) is a medium-sized car nivore that experienced remarkable geographic expansion over the last 3 decades in the Iberian Peninsula. In this study, we investigated the association of species-related and abiotic factors with spleen weight (as a proxy for immunocompete nee) in the species. We assessed the relationship of body con dition, sex, age, seas on, and envir onmental conditi ons with splee n weight established for 508 hunted specimens. Our results indicate that the effects of sex and season outweigh those of all other variables, including body condition. Spleen weight is higher in males than in females, and heavier spleens are more likely to be found in spring, coinciding with the highest period of investment in reproduction due to mating, gestation, birth, and lactation. Coupled with the absence of an effect of body condition, our findi ngs suggest that splee n weight variation in this species is mostly influe need by lifehistory traits linked to reproduction, rather than overall energy availability, winter immunoenhancement, or energy partitioning effects, and prompt further research focusing on this topic.

Among the several types of inorganic nanoparticles available,silica nanoparticles(SNP)have earned their relevance in biological applications namely,as bioimaging *** fact,uorescent SNP(FSNP)have been explored in this-eld as protective nanocarriers,overcoming some limitations presented by conventional organic dyes such as high photobleaching rates.A crucial aspect on the use of uorescent SNP relates to their surface properties,since it determines the extent of interaction between nanoparticles and biological systems,namely in terms of colloidal stability in water,cellular recognition and internalization,tracking,biodistribution and speci-city,among ***,it is imperative to understand the mechanisms underlying the interaction between biosystems and the SNP surfaces,making surface functionalization a relevant step in order to take full advantage of particle *** versatility of the surface chemistry on silica platforms,together with the intrinsic hydrophilicity and biocompatibility,make these systems suitable for bioimaging applications,such as those mentioned in this review.
