Effect of post weld artificial aging and water cooling on microstructure and mechanical properties of friction stir welded 2198-T8 Al-Li joints

Friction stir welding(FSW)under both air cooling and water cooling conditions with welding parameters of 800-1200 rpm rotation rates and 50-200 mm/min welding speeds was carried out on 2198-T8 Al-Li alloys,and post weld artificial aging was performed on the air cooled *** welding defects other than lazy S were observed in the nugget zone(Nz)for all *** air cooling condition,the lowest hardness zone(LHz)occurred in the heat affected zone(HAz).FSW resulted in gradual dissolution of original T_(1),θ′andδ′/β′from the base material(BM)to the thermo-mechanically affected zone(TMAz),and complete dissolution of all precipitates in the Nz withδ′/β′and Guinier-Preston zones precipitating during *** air cooled joints exhibited no noticeable changes in intrinsic tensile strength with a joint strength reaching 81.3%of the BM,but varied elongation with welding parameters,which was closely related to failure in the Nz and fracture along lazy *** weld artificial aging led to the largest hardness recovery in the TMAz but smaller hardness recovery in the initial LHz and the *** aging kinetics across the joint was determined by volume fraction of both original precipitate dissolu-tion during welding and coarse particles formed during aging,and by dislocation density inherited from *** weld artificial aging greatly enhanced the joint strength with the ultimate tensile strength reaching 87.3%of the *** compared to air cooling condition,water cooling hardly affected the Nz hardness and did not improve the joint strength,and the reason was discussed in light of precipitates,hardness changes and fracture behavior.

Liquid-filled compartment structure consists of a bulk steel plate with matrix blind holes which are filled with liquid and a steel front plate to seal up the liquid with rings and *** liquid-filled compartment structure can resist the shaped charge warhead *** paper presents experimental and theoretical investigations of the penetration ability of the residual shaped charge jet emerging from the liquid-filled compartment structure after the penetration process at different impact *** the basis of shock wave propagation theory,the influence of the liquid-filled compartment structure on jet stability is *** interferences of the liquid backflow caused by a reflected shock wave and a back plate on jet stability under different impact angles are also *** addition,the range of the disturbed velocity segments of the jet at different impact angles and the penetration ability of the residual jet are obtained.A theoretical model is validated against the experimental penetration depths.

Enhancing strength and ductility of AlSi10Mg fabricated by selective laser melting by TiB_(2)nanoparticles

In the metallic components fabricated by the emerging selective laser melting(SLM)technology,most strategies used for strengthening the materials sacrifice the ductility,leading to the so-called strengthductility *** the present study,we report that the strength and ductility of materials can be enhanced simultaneously by introducing nanoparticles,which can break the trade-off of the metallic *** the case of in-situ nano-TiB_(2)decorated AlSi10Mg composites,the introduced nanoparticles lead to columnar-to-equiaxed transition,grain refinement and texture *** increasing content of nanoparticles,the strength increases ***,the ductility first increases and then *** results show that the ductility is controlled by the competition between the crack-induced catastrophic fracture and ductile fracture associated with dislocation *** first increase of ductility is mainly attributed to the suppression of crack-induced catastrophic fracture when TiB_(2)nanoparticles *** the further increase of TiB_(2)nanoparticles,the subsequent decrease of ductility is mainly controlled by dislocation ***,the materials will exhibit the optimum strength and ductility combination in a certain range of TiB_(2)*** study clarifies the physical mechanism controlling ductility for nano-TiB_(2)decorated Al Si10Mg composites,which provides the insights for the design of structural materials.

Effects of electropulsing treatment(EPT)on the microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of a cold-rolled 316 L austenitic stainless steel with nano-lamellar structure were *** EPT experiments were carried out with the electric current direction along the rolling direction(Rd)and the transverse direction(Td)of the samples,*** anisotropic electroplastic effects for the Rd and Td specimens,i.e.,reduced hardness/strength and enhanced ductility,were obtained owing to the different recrystallization behaviors of the Rd and Td specimens during *** Rd specimens after EPT with larger recrystallized grain size and higher volume fraction of recrystallization show lower strength and higher elongation than that of the Td *** main reason might be attributed to the change of the current direction in the two kinds of samples,which results in the different sensitivity of the microstructures to thermal and athermal effects during EPT.

Magnetic/Magnetostrictive Properties Together with Resistivity and Corrosion Behaviors of CoFe_2 and Its Composite with CoFe_2N

The CoFe_2alloy（CF） was prepared by reducing CoFe_2O_4 in the H_2 ambient. Subsequently the CF sample was nitrided in the NH_3 atmosphere to produce the composite of CoFe_2N and CoFe_2. The magnetostriction, thermal expansion, resistivity and corrosion resistance of CF sample and the nitrided sample（CFN）at 1000？C were investigated. The saturation magnetostriction coefficiency λ_s and thermal expansion coefficient ？ at 300 K for the nitrided CFN were 50 ppm and 10 ppm/K, respectively, approximately equal to those for the CF sample. However, compared with CF, CFN presents a decrease in temperature coefficient R_λ（300 K） of magnetostriction by 11%. The smaller resistivity and improved corrosion resistance in the H_2SO_4 solution may expand the applications of the CoFe_2 in the fields needing lower resistivity or in the acidic environment.

Magnetic and Electrical Behavior of MnTe_(1-x)Sb_x Alloys

The structure,specific heat,magnetic and electrical properties of MnTe1-xSbx（x=0,0.1,0.15,0.2 and 0.25） alloys have been *** MnTe1-xSbx alloys crystallize in a hexagonal NiAs-type structure,and the impurity of MnSb phase appears when x≥*** MnTe0.9Sb0.1 compound exhibits ferrimagnetic behavior with hysteresis loops even at 350 K,showing that the magnetic properties of MnTe compound are very sensitive to little compositional *** ferromagnetism in the MnTe1-xSbx alloys with higher Sb contents may be attributed to the impurity of MnSb *** dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analysis on the MnTe0.9Sb0.1 compound indicates that Sb is very difficult to dope into the lattice of *** the anomaly of resistivity at 300 K of MnTe0.9Sb0.1 and the peak of specific heat around 304 K of all the alloys are thought to be related with the antiferromagnetic interactions of MnTe-based lattice.

Microalloying elements in high-strength low-alloy steels, such as Nb, Ti and V, precipitate during hot-rolling processes. On the basis of classical theory of nucleation and growth, quanti- tative modeling of isothermal precipitation was developed, which was tested by the stress rela- xation method, the calculated precipitation-time-temperature curve is in good agreements with the measured results, then the model was applied to predict the precipitation behavior during continuous cooling.

Background The incidence of coronary heart disease （CHd） is higher in Northern than that in Southern China, however differences in traditional CHd risk factors do not fully explain this. No study has examined the differences in subclinical atherosclerosis that may help explain the differences in incidence. This study examined these differences in subclinical atherosclerosis using coronary computed tomography （CT） for calcification between the Northern and Southern China. Methods We selected a random sample of participants in a large multi-center ongoing epidemiologic study for coronary calcium scanning in one northern city （North）（Beijing, n = 49） and in two southern cities （South）（Shanghai, n = 50, and Guangzhou, n = 50）. Participants from the three field centers （mean age 67 years） underwent coronary risk factor evaluation and cardiac CT scanning for coronary calcium measurement using the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis scanning protocol. Results Adjusted log-transformed coronary artery calcium score in North China （Beijing） was 3.1 ±0.4 and in South China （Shanghai and Guangzhou） was 2.2 ＋_ 0.3 （P = 0.04）. Mean calcium score for the northern city of Beijing was three times higher than that of the southern city of Guangzhou （P = 0.01） and 2.5 times higher than for the southern city of Shanghai （P = 0.03）. Conclusions The extent of subclinical atherosclerosis is significantly higher in the northern city of Beijing than that in the two southern cities of Guangzhou and Shanghai, even after adjusting for standard cardiac risk factors. This finding suggests that standard risk factors do not fully explain north south differences in clinical CHd incidence.

Water film coated composite liquid metal marble and its fluidic impact dynamics phenomenon

A composite liquid metal marble made of metal droplet coated with water film was proposed and its impact dynamics phenomenon was disclosed. After encapsulating the liquid metal into water droplets, the fabricated liquid marble successfully avoided being oxygenized by the metal fluid and thus significantly improved its many physical capabilities such as surface tension modification and shape control. The striking behaviors of the composite liquid metal marbles on a substrate at room temperature were experimentally inves- tigated in a high speed imaging way. It was disclosed that such marbles could disintegrate, merge, and even rebound when impacting the substrate, unlike the existing dynamic fluidic behaviors of liquid marble or metal droplet. The mechanisms lying behind these features were preliminarily interpreted. This fundamental finding raised profound multiphase fluid mechanics for understanding the complex liquid composite which was also critical for a variety of practical applications such as liquid metal jet cooling, inkjet printed electronics, 3d printing or metal particle fabrication etc.

dispersion relation and surface gravity of universal horizons

In Einstein-aether theory,violating Lorentz invariance permits some super-luminal communications,and the universal horizon can trap excitations traveling at arbitrarily high *** better understand the nature of these universal horizons,we first modify the ray tracing method,and then use it to study their surface gravity in charged Einstein-aether black hole *** of the previous result by Cropp et al.,our results show that the surface gravity of the universal horizon is dependent on the specific dispersion relation,k_(uh)-2(z-1)k_(uh)/z,where z denotes the power of the leading term in the superluminal dispersion relation,characterizing different species of *** the associated Hawking temperatures also are different with *** findings,which coincide with those derived by the tunneling method,provide some full understanding of black hole thermodynamics in Lorentz-violating theories.
