Reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) is an effective treatment for rotator cuff tears. despite its advantages, complications occur at a high rate. Complications requiring revision include a high rate of base plate failure, 38% of which are due to instability. The primary stability the base plate ensures is a crucial factor and, thus, is the subject of much debate in clinical studies and biomechanical research. This study is aimed to provide data that will contribute to the base plate’s pri-mary stability and glenoid longevity by clarifying the stresses at the scapular fossa and base plate interface associated with elevation after RSA. A 3d finite element model was created from the dICOM data for the scapulohumeral joint and SMR shoulder system. For loading conditions, 30 N was applied for each posi-tion with abduction angles of 0, 45, 90, and 135 degrees. A three-dimensional fi-nite element analysis was performed using the static implicit method with LS-dYNA. The von Mises stresses in the scapular fossa were found not to exceed the yield stress on the bone even after elevation to an abduction angle of 135 de-grees after RSA. It is rough to uniformly compare the yield stress and the von Mises stress, but it was inferred that the possibility of fracture is low unless a large external force is applied. A maximum von Mises stress showed 0 degrees of abduction, suggesting that the lowered position is in a more severe condition than the elevated position. If better improvement is desired, it may be necessary to devise ways to reduce the stress on the upper screw. .

The main objective is to provide an evidence of spatial dependence of mechanical responses of a heterogeneous aluminum brazed joint re-solidified clad, and to confirm a sufficient sensitivity of a nano-indentation—load curve method for identifying the dependence. Topological features of a network of solidification microstructures(α phase and eutectic), formed during quench in a brazing process of aluminum alloy, influence significantly dynamic mechanical responses of resulting heterogeneous material. Nano/micro indentation depth vs load characteristics of differing phases suggest a spatially sensitive mechanical response of a re-solidified fillet in the joint zone. Hence, a spatial distribution, pattern formations and other morphological characteristics of microstructures have a direct impact on an ultimate joint integrity. Topology-induced variations of indentation—load curves was presented. A hypothesis involving microstructures’ spatial distribution vs mechanical response was formulated.

Silica nanoparticles have been prepared from tetraethylorthosilicate dissolved in ethanol followed by base-catalyzed condensation. Earlier works reported that at least four parameters, namely concentration of tetraethylorthosilicate, ethanol, water and ammonia solution are needed to be optimized for the size tuning of silica nanoparticles. In this work size tuning of 5 nm-250 nm has been achieved by varying a single synthesis parameter i.e., the concentration of ammonia solution. Oxygen plasma was found to be successful for generating pores on silica nanoparticles without using any structure directing agents. The properties and morphology of nanoparticles were investigated by transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy.

At elevated temperature, creep failures of polycrystalline metals after long-term constant loading are often caused by the nucleation, growth and coalescence of creep voids on the grain boundaries. Void h＇action is an important parameter for the evaluation of creep damage level of structural materials operating at high temperature. In this paper, a 2-d numerical simulation method was developed for analyzing the void fraction evolution during the process of creep, based on some hypothesis from experiments. The model was implemented and then was used to predict the evolution of void fraction in the 2.25Cr-1Mo steel of uniaxial creep experiment at 570 ℃, in which the simulation results showed good agreement with the experimental results.

This paper presents an algorithm that tests whether a given degree-bounded digraph is k-edge-connected or E-far from k-edge-connectivity. This is the first testing algorithm for k-edge- connectivity of digraphs whose running time is independent of the number of vertices and edges. A digraph of n vertices with degree bound d is ε-far from k-edge-connectivity if at least εdn edges have to be added or deleted to make the digraph k-edge-connected, preserving the degree bound. Given a constant error parameter ε and a degree bound d, our algorithm always accepts all k-edge-connected digraphs and reiects all digraphs that is ε-far from k-edge-connectivity with orobabilitv at least 2/*** runs in O（d（εd^-c）^k logεd^-1O）（c〉1 is a constant）time when input digraphs are restricted to be （k-1）-edge connected and runs in O（d（εd^-ck）^klogεd^-kO）（c〉1 is a constant）time for general digraphs.

The periodic assembly and dispersal of continental fragments, referred to as the supercontinent cycle, bear close relation to the evolution of mantle convection and plate tectonics. Supercontinent formation involves complex processes of ＂introversion＂（closure of interior oceans）, ＂extroversion＂（closure of exterior oceans）, or a combination of these processes in uniting dispersed continental fragments, Recent developments in numerical modeling and advancements in computation techniques enable us to simulate Earth＇s mantle convection with drifting continents under realistic convection vigor and rheology in Earth-like geometry （i.e., 3d spherical-shell）. We report a numerical simulation of 3d mantle convection, incorporating drifting deformable continents, to evaluate supercontinent processes in a realistic mantle convection regime. Our results show that supercontinents are assembled by a combi- nation of introversion and extroversion processes. Small-scale thermal heterogeneity dominates deep mantle convection during the supercontinent cycle, although large-scale upwelling plumes intermit- tently originate under the drifting continents and/or the supercontinent.
