Background：In mid hills of Western Himalayas,Himachal Pradesh India,growth,yield and economics of Solanum khasianum as a potential medicinal herb under Pinus roxburghii（Chir pine） plantation has been studied for two consecutive years to assess the performance of Solanum khasianum in undercanopy of Pinus roxburghii for developing Solanum khasianum and Pinus roxburghii based innovative silvi-medicinal ***：Growth parameters such as plant height,number of branches per plant and leaf area index followed by yield were estimated after Solanum khasianum was grown on three topographical aspects as;Northern,North- western and Western at a spacing of 45 cm x 45 cm,followed by three tillage depths as;minimum（0 cm）,medium（up to 10 cm）and deep tillage（up to 15 cm）,in open and below canopy conditions *** study was conducted to explore the possibility of using Solanum khasianum based silvi-medicinal system to utilize the below canopy of Chir pine forest for enhancing the productivity of forests besides the conservation of the medicinal ***：The growth parameters such as plant height,number of branches per plant and leaf area index were nonsignificantly affected by topographical aspects and tillage practices,both below canopy and open conditions except fresh weight and dry weight of berries during harvesting *** maximum yield（0.61 t·ha^（-1）） was observed on Western aspect in open conditions as compared to below canopy of Chir *** highest gross returns were observed for the crop cultivated on Western aspect under deep tillage in open conditions than other aspect and tillage *** the positive net returns from the crops raised in below canopy of Chir pine indicates its possible economic viability under agroforestry system as the gross returns was higher than the cost of ***：Solanum khasianum when grown in below canopy of Pinus roxburghii,its growth and yield indicated positive net *** khasianum and P

We developed tests of sperm-oocyte interaction: sperm-zona binding, zona-induced acrosome reaction, sperm-zona penetration and sperm-oolemma binding, using oocytes which failed to fertilise in clinical in vitro fertilization(IVF). Although oocyte defects contribute to failure of sperm oocyte interaction, rarely are all oocytes from one wom-an affected. Low or zero fertilization in standard IVFwas usually caused by sperm abnormalities. Poor sperm-zona pel-lucida binding was frequently associated with failure of standard IVF and obvious defects of sperm motility or morpholo-gy. The size and shape of the acrosome is particularly important for sperm binding to the oocyte. The proportion ofacrosome intact sperm in the insemination medium was related to the IVF rote. Inducing the acrosome reaction with acalcium ionophore reduced sperm-zona binding. Blocking acrosome dispersal with an acrosin inhibitor prevented sperm-zona penetration. Sperm-zona penetration was even more highly related to IVF rates than was sperm-zona *** patients had low or zero fertilization rates with standard IVF but normal sperm by conventional tests and normalsperm-zona binding. Few of their sperm underwent the acrosome reaction on the surface of the zona and none penetrat-ed the zona. In contrast, fertilization and pregnancy rates were high with intmcytoplasmic sperm injection. We call thiscondition defective zona pellucida induced acrosome reaction. discovery of the nature of the abnormalities in the signaltmnsduction and effector pathways of the human zona pellucida induced acrosome reaction should result in simpler testsand treatments for the patients and also provide new leads for contraceptive development.

Optimization of Losses Joule in the Congolese Electrical Network Integrated with the Energy Pool of Central Africa in the PEAC Acronym

Joule losses in the power grids are a factor in the degradation of power grid equipment (lines and transformers), but also a shortfall for power companies, which must maximize their revenues. This is why in this article we present a study on the optimization of joule losses in a meshed electricity network interconnected to a very high voltage power line crossing Congolese territory for nearly one thousand five hundred (1500) kilometers. The value of interconnections no longer needs to be demonstrated in view of these technical, economic and social advantages. The object of this study is to assess the optimal node where the interconnection can be achieved which would cause fewer joule losses in the networks to be interconnected on this line. Indeed, it can have several possible nodes where the interconnection can be carried out, so it is necessary to simulate each configuration in order to evaluate the losses using the hybrid method including the genetic algorithm to provide different configurations and the Newton Raphson algorithm. Advanced integrating FACTS devices in this case STATCOM to perform load flow. The results are interesting because by injecting electrical energy to the network or to the line to the same selected, the joule losses are within the standards provided by the International Electrotechnical Commission.

Proteomics analysis of Trichoplusia ni midgut epithelial cell brush border membrane vesicles

The insect midgut epithelium is composed of columnar, goblet, and regenerative cells. Columnar epithelial cells are the most abundant and have membrane protrusions that form the brush border membrane (BBM) on their apical side. These increase surface area available for the transport of nutrients, but also provide opportunities for interaction with xenobiotics such as pathogens, toxins and host plant allelochemicals. Recent improvements in proteomic and bioinfbrmatics tools provided an opportunity to determine the proteome of the T. ni BBM in unprecedented detail. This study reports the identification of proteins from BBM vesicles (BBMVs) using single dimension polyacrylamide gel elec? trophoresis coupled with multi-dimensional protein identification technology. More than 3000 proteins were associated with the BBMV of which 697 were predicted to possess either a signal peptide, at least one transmembrane domain or a GPI-anchor signal. Of these, bioinfbrmatics analysis and manual curation predicted that 185 may be associated with the BBMV or epithelial cell plasma membrane. These are discussed with respect to their predicted functions, namely digestion, nutrient uptake, cell signaling, development, cell-cell interactions, and other functions. We believe this to be the most detailed proteomic analysis of the lepidopteran midgut epithelium membrane to date, which will provide information to better understand the biochemical, physiological and pathological processes taking place in the larval midgut.

Sediment Pollution Assessment of Abandoned Residential developments Using Remote Sensing and GIS

The current economic crisis has left numerous residential developments in the southeastern United States in various stages of construction. Many of them are currently graded and essentially abandoned, creating a major source of sediment runoff to waterways. Residential development locations with significant bare soil areas were identified through classification of Landsat 5 TM satellite imagery and subsequently verified from high-resolution county aerial photographs. The revised universal soil loss equation (RUSLE) was used in a geographic information system (GIS) as a tool for prioritizing identified locations on the basis of potential soil loss assuming the worst case scenario of a completely unmaintained site. Initial GIS identification indicated 301 sites with a total bare soil area of 2 378 ha over three counties in Upstate South Carolina. A random sample of 153 sites was visited over 17 days and assessed using a mobile GIS, global positioning system (GPS), and digital camera for field validation. Results indicated that 78% (119) of the sites were classified correctly (residential construction sites in varying stages of completion); 88% of identified areas were less than 25% built compared to the previous year; 48% were categorized as moderate to severe problems. Abandoned and unfinished developments in Upstate South Carolina may represent a major source of sediment pollution to streams. Well-maintained erosion control devices may be useful in preventing offsite sedimentation.

Altitudinal differentiation of Quercus robur in Bosnia and Herzegovina
