Hippocampal neuronal loss causes cognitive dysfunction in Alzheimer’s *** hippocampal neurogenesis is reduced in patients with Alzheimer’s *** stimulates adult hippocampal neurogenesis in rodents and improves memory and slows cognitive decline in patients with Alzheimer’s ***,the molecular pathways for exercise-induced adult hippocampal neurogenesis and improved cognition in Alzheimer’s disease are poorly ***,regulator of G protein signaling 6(RGs6)was identified as the mediator of voluntary running-induced adult hippocampal neurogenesis in ***,we generated novel RGs6fl/fl;APP_(sWE) mice and used retroviral approaches to examine the impact of RGs6 deletion from dentate gyrus neuronal progenitor cells on voluntary running-induced adult hippocampal neurogenesis and cognition in an amyloid-based Alzheimer’s disease mouse *** found that voluntary running in APP_(sWE) mice restored their hippocampal cognitive impairments to that of control *** cognitive rescue was abolished by RGs6 deletion in dentate gyrus neuronal progenitor cells,which also abolished running-mediated increases in adult hippocampal *** hippocampal neurogenesis was reduced in sedentary APP_(sWE) mice versus control mice,with basal adult hippocampal neurogenesis reduced by RGs6 deletion in dentate gyrus neural precursor ***6 was expressed in neurons within the dentate gyrus of patients with Alzheimer’s disease with significant loss of these RGs6-expressing ***,RGs6 mediated voluntary running-induced rescue of impaired cognition and adult hippocampal neurogenesis in APP_(sWE) mice,identifying RGs6 in dentate gyrus neural precursor cells as a possible therapeutic target in Alzheimer’s disease.

Anaerobic soil disinfestation:A chemical-independent approach to pre-plant control of plant pathogens

due to increasing regulations and restrictions, there is an urgent need to develop effective alternatives to chemical-dependent fumigation control of soilborne pests and pathogens. Anaerobic soil disinfestation （Asd） is one such alternative showing great promise for use in the control of soilborne pathogens and pests. This method involves the application of a carbon source, irrigation to field capacity, and covering the soil with a plastic tarp. While the mechanisms of Asd are not completely understood, they appear to be a combination of changes in the soil microbial community composition, production of volatile organic compounds, and the generation of lethal anaerobic conditions. The variety of materials and options for Asd application, including carbon sources, soil temperature, and plastic tarp type, influence the efficacy of pathogen sup- pression and disease control. Currently, both dry （e.g., rice bran） and liquid （e.g., ethanol） carbon sources are commonly used, but with different results depending on environmental conditions. While solarization is not an essential component of Asd, it can enhance efficacy. Understanding the mechanisms that mediate biological changes occurring in the soil during Asd will facilitate our ability to increase Asd efficacy while enhancing its commercial viability.

Modeling the Contemporary stress Field and deformation Pattern of Eastern Mediterranean

The contemporary stress field in the earth＇s crust is important and provides insights into mechanisms that drive plate motions. In this study, elastic plane stress finite element modeling incorporating realistic rock parameters was used to calculate the stress field, displacement field, and defor- mation of the plate interactions in the eastern Mediterranean. Modeled stress data for the African- Arabian-Anatolian plate interactions with fixed European platform correlate well with observed contemporary stress indicator from the world stress map （WsM） and focal mechanism of earthquakes; while displacement field agrees qualitatively well with GPs vectors and sense of motion indicated by focal mechanisms for large crustal earthquakes （Ms〉6） and plate motion models. Modeling result shows the direction of maximum horizontal compressive stress （σHmax） toward the direction of absolute motion of these plates. Large perturbations in σHmax orientations are shown to occur in and around tectonic boundaries between those plates. It is observed that, although the African plate acts mostly as indenter, which transmits the collisional motion from the Arabian plate to the Anatolian plate, in the current situation, the far-field stress, probably from the subduction in Aegean Arc, is needed to satisfy the contemporary stress field in Anatolia.

Coating particles using liquids and foams based on viscous formulations with industrial mixers: Batch operation

Particle or powder coating with viscous liquids has been essential in industry for surface modification purposes to induce and enhance specific *** paper evaluates the performance of using foams (of different bubble diameters) versus liquids as a means of coating powder beds based on viscous liquid *** with viscous liquids present numerous industrial challenges and therefore preparing foam equivalents can render the liquid component weak enough (through pre shearing to form the foam),to allow it to break up and coat particles under the shear forces exerted in a mixing *** this study,two shear mixers are used;the first type consists of paddles in different configurations attached to a single rotating shaft,whilst the second type is a commercial twin screw mixer (TsM).The quality of coating achieved on the bulk powder bed using liquids and foams (stained with a dye) is assessed by image analysis to determine the homogeneity of the color *** addition,scanning electron microscopy provides a tool to further investigate the coating quality of individual particles from the bulk *** results show that large bubble (centimeter size) foams are much more effective at distributing within the fluidized powder bed compared to the starting viscous liquid and small bubble foams (submillimeter size).Furthermore,there is a maximum ratio of foam to powder beyond which agglomeration occurs and is insufficient to fully coat the *** of individual particles is achieved in the case of the TsM,whereas sEM proves that the single shaft paddle mixer crushes the particles and subsequently granulates them together to form granules of a size comparable to the size of coated particles seen after coating with the TsM.

Temperature Effects on the Microstructures of Mg-Gd-Y Alloy Processed by Multi-direction Impact Forging

A high strain rate multi-directional impact forging(MdIF) was applied to a solutionized Mg-Gd-Y-Zr alloy in the temperature range of 350-500℃.Results demonstrate that the dominant deformation mode is twinning at a temperature below 400℃,whereas at a medium temperature of 450℃ considerable continuous dynamic recrystallization was promoted by{10-12} extension *** a higher temperature of 500℃,twinning activation was *** dRX grains were observed but their sizes were much bigger than those resulting from the MdIFed 50 passes at 450℃,which are ascribed to the larger grain boundary mobility and atomic diffusion at 500℃.Moreover,a non-basal weak texture was gained afterward MdIF at each temperature,which is credited to the MdIF process and the minor strain applied in each pass.

Non-Uniform Axial Electric Field in Argon Glow discharge Plasma

The non-uniform argon dc glow discharge plasma system has been constructed in a very special design to investigate the effects of variable tube radius on plasma parameters. By using isolated computer controlled three couples of a double probe （TCdP） system, the electron temperature, electron density, the reduced electric field, and electron drift velocity are measured at low and intermediate pressures. It is shown that the electron temperature and reduced electric field （density） decreases （increases） as the radius decreases, at low discharge current and pressures. For large radius regions, at high discharge currents and pressures, the behaviour of the plasma parameters of specially reduced electric field change similarly to those in a uniform discharge system.

Non-spherical Gravitational Collapse of strange Quark Matter

We study the non-spherical gravitational collapse of the strange quark null fluid. The interesting feature which emerges is that the non-spherical collapse of charged strange quark matter leads to a naked singularity whereas the gravitational collapse of neutral quark matter proceeds to form a black hole. We extend the earlier work of Harko and Cheng [Phys. Lett. A 266 （2000） 249] to the non-spherical case.

Ambipolar diffusion in direct-Current Positive Column with Variations in radius of discharge Tube

The ambipolar diffusion and argon ion mobility as functions of the reduced electric field and pressure times the tube radius are investigated in a weakly ionized non-uniform glow discharge plasma system. In particular, the variable cross section at the same discharge tube on the ambipolar diffusion coefficient shows a more noticeable effect than the effects from the ion mobility. As the diffusion length A increases, the ambipolar diffusion da increases. However, it decreases as the discharge current is increased.

Multi-year MOdIs active fire type classification over the Brazilian Tropical Moist Forest Biome

The Brazilian Tropical Moist Forest Biome(BTMFB)spans almost 4 million km^(2) and is subject to extensive annual fires that have been categorized into deforestation,maintenance,and forest fire *** on fire types is important as they have different atmospheric emissions and ecological impacts.A supervised classification methodology is presented to classify the fire type of MOderate resolution Imaging spectroradiometer(MOdIs)active fire detections using training data defined by consideration of Brazilian government forest monitoring program annual land cover maps,and using predictor variables concerned with fuel flammability,fuel load,fire behavior,fire seasonality,fire annual frequency,proximity to surface transportation,and local *** fire seasonality,local temperature,and fuel flammability were the most influential on the *** fire type results for all 1.6 million MOdIs Terra and Aqua BTMFB active fire detections over eight years(2003–2010)are presented with an overall fire type classification accuracy of 90.9%(kappa 0.824).The fire type user’s and producer’s classification accuracies were respectively 92.4%and 94.4%(maintenance fires),88.4%and 87.5%(forest fires),and,88.7%and 75.0%(deforestation fires).The spatial and temporal distribution of the classified fire types are presented and are similar to patterns reported in the available recent literature.
