2d matrix based indexing with color spectralhistogram for efficient image retrieval

A novel content based image retrieval （CBIR） algorithmusing relevant feedback is presented. The proposed frameworkhas three major contributions： a novel feature descriptor calledcolor spectral histogram （CSH） to measure the similarity betweenimages; two-dimensional matrix based indexing approach proposedfor short-term learning （STL）; and long-term learning （LTL）.In general, image similarities are measured from feature representationwhich includes color quantization, texture, color, shapeand edges. However, CSH can describe the image feature onlywith the histogram. Typically the image retrieval process starts byfinding the similarity between the query image and the imagesin the database; the major computation involved here is that theselection of top ranking images requires a sorting algorithm to beemployed at least with the lower bound of O（n log n）. A 2d matrixbased indexing of images can enormously reduce the searchtime in STL. The same structure is used for LTL with an aim toreduce the amount of log to be maintained. The performance ofthe proposed framework is analyzed and compared with the existingapproaches, the quantified results indicates that the proposedfeature descriptor is more effectual than the existing feature descriptorsthat were originally developed for CBIR. In terms of STL,the proposed 2d matrix based indexing minimizes the computationeffort for retrieving similar images and for LTL, the proposed algorithmtakes minimum log information than the existing approaches.

Vigna radiata var. GM4 Plant Growth Enhancement and Root Colonization by a Multi-Metal-Resistant Plant Growth-Promoting Bacterium Enterobacter sp. C1d in Cr(VI)-Amended Soils

Contamination of agricultural soils by heavy metals has become a major concern due to their toxic effects on plant growth,symbiosis and consequently the yields of crops. In the present study, to enhance plant growth in Cr（VI）-amended soils, novel metalresistant plant growth-promoting bacteria（PGPB） were isolated from a soil contaminated with industrial waste effluent. One of the bacterial isolates, identified as Enterobacter sp. C1 d by 16 S r RNA gene sequencing, was found to be multi-metal resistant in nature with excellent plant growth-promoting（PGP） traits. Mung bean（Vigna radiata var. GM4） inoculation with Enterobacter sp.C1 d significantly（P ＆lt; 0.01） increased root and shoot length, shoot and root weight, and chlorophyll content in a range of Cr（VI）treatments. Plant tolerance towards Cr（VI） measured as effective concentration showed higher values with Enterobacter sp. C1 dtreated plants compared to un-inoculated plants. Root colonization study was also carried out using green fluorescence protein-labeled Enterobacter sp. C1 d under a hydroponic system. Confocal laser scanning microscopy of the plant roots showed heavy bacterial loads on the surface of the plant root specifically at the root tip and the point of root hair/lateral root formation. The results of PGP traits showed that elevated indole acetic acid levels and 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate deaminase activity enabled Enterobacter sp. C1 d to enhance V. radiata growth in Cr（VI）-amended soils, whereby it significantly increased plant tolerance towards elevated Cr（VI） concentrations.

Malargüe Site Remediation: A Successful Solution for Uranium Mill Tailings

Comisión Nacional de Energía Atómica(CNEA) has the responsibility for restoring uranium mining facilities once the operations have finished. CNEA, within its Environmental Program and in compliance with its legal responsibilities, decides to implement a restoration project for all sites related to the mining and processing of uranium ores. The Malargüe Site is located within the Province of Mendoza in the city of Malargüe. It is the first site to successfully complete its remediation. The activities consist of relocation of tailings to an engineering repository. The tailings management(encapsulation) and rehabilitation of the area was finished in June 2017. The remediation alternative for the ore tailings was selected after conducting comparative studies and submitted the project to the society for consideration. The objective of the encapsulation of the mineral tails is to isolate them from the environment, also proceeding with the decontamination and rehabilitation of the area(landscaping,post-closure monitoring and 20 years monitoring period). Encapsulation consisted of the construction of a containment cell for the mine tailings, to isolate them and prevent pollutants from entering the environment through the transfer routes. To clean the impacted areas, the soil was removed, it was incorporated into the encapsulation, and the filling was carried out with natural soils from the *** prevents radon transfer to the environment, as 222Ra is an alpha emitter with a half-life of four days, which produces its own radioactive progeny. Radon progeny are solids, and when a 222Ra nucleus emits an alpha particle into the air, the resulting 218Po nucleus, momentarily electrically charged, adheres to any dust particle. Remediation prevents the discharge into the air containing radon and also containing dust particles charged with intensely radioactive radon progeny. Performance analysis of jig for coal cleaning using 3d response surface methodology

Beneficiation of coal of -4.76 mm + 3 mm size fraction was investigated in a laboratory model denver *** variables were studied to analyze their effect on the performance of jig in terms of yield and ash content of clean coal. Three-factor three-level Box-Behnken design of experiments with response surface methodology(RSM) was employed to understand the performance behavior of jig. From the study, the bed height was found to be the most significant parameter affecting the yield and ash content of clean coal. It was possible to reduce the ash content from 24.32% in feed to an ash content of 16.55% in clean coal at 2 L/min water flow rate and 10 min jigging time. Influence of operating variables of the jig on responses was presented and discussed in 3d surface plots. The developed model was found to be significant within the range of parameters under investigation with correlation of co-efficient values as 0.99(yield) and 0.98(ash).

Competitive interactions and coexistence of sympatric flagship carnivores in Asia

Understanding the competition and coexistence of flagship carnivores is key to creating strategies for their conservation in the face of global carnivore *** studies exploring the dynamics and competition between tigers(Panthera tigris)and leopards(***)span decades,there is a lack of understanding regarding the factors that influence their coexistence mechanisms on a broad scale,as well as the drivers determining their exploitative and interference *** gathered a comprehensive list of research papers among which 36 papers explored the interspecific interactions between tigers and leopards and tested the influence of biotic and abiotic factors on the coexistence mechanisms along three dimensions using multiple response variables regression models;we also tested the influence of ecological drivers determining the exploitative or interference competition between tigers and *** and ungulate density were the most important predictors in regulating the coexistence *** and leopards exhibited more positive relations/higher overlaps as elevation increased in the spatial *** addition,they showed a higher dietary overlap in the prey-rich *** determined that interference competition between tigers and leopards was less frequently observed in habitats with dense tree cover and homogeneous vegetation ***,studies with multiple metrics would promote the detection of interference *** study provides new insight into the competitive interactions and coexistence mechanisms of tigers and leopards on a broad ***-makers and managers should pay more attention to the factors of elevation,prey abundance,and habitat structures for the conservation of tigers and leopards.

Chemical-assisted MMP reduction on methane-oil systems:Implications for natural gas injection to enhanced oil recovery

Miscible natural gas injection is widely considered as a practical and efficient enhanced oil recovery technique. However, the main challenge in this process is the high minimum miscibility pressure（MMP）between natural gas and crude oil, which limits its application and recovery factor, especially in hightemperature reservoirs. Therefore, we present a novel investigation to quantify the effect of chemicalassisted MMP reduction on the oil recovery factor. Firstly, we measured the interfacial tension（IFT） of the methane-oil system in the presence of chemical or CO2to calculate the MMP reduction at a constant temperature（373K） using the vanishing interfacial tension（VIT） method. Afterwards, we performed three coreflooding experiments to quantify the effect of MMP reduction on the oil recovery factor under different injection *** interfacial tension measurements show that adding a small fraction（1.5 wt%） of the tested surfactant（SOLOTERRA ME-6） achieved 9% of MMP reduction, while adding 20 wt% of CO2to the methane yields 13% of MMP reduction. Then, the coreflooding results highlight the significance of achieving miscibility during gas injection, as the ultimate recovery factor increased from 65.5% under immiscible conditions to 77.2% using chemical-assisted methane, and to 79% using gas mixture after achieving near miscible condition. The results demonstrate the promising potential of the MMP reduction to significantly increase the oil recovery factor during gas injection. Furthermore, these results will likely expand the application envelop of the miscible gas injection, in addition to the environmental benefits of utilizing the produced gas by re-injection/recycling instead of flaring which contributes to reducing the greenhouse gas emissions.
