Towards a unified nonlocal, peridynamics framework for the coarse-graining of molecular dynamics data with fractures

Molecular dynamics(Md)has served as a powerful tool for designing materials with reduced reliance on laboratory ***,the use of Md directly to treat the deformation and failure of materials at the mesoscale is still largely beyond *** this work,we propose a learning framework to extract a peridynamics model as a mesoscale continuum surrogate from Md simulated material fracture data ***,we develop a novel coarse-graining method,to automatically handle the material fracture and its corresponding discontinuities in the Md displacement data *** by the weighted essentially non-oscillatory(WENO)scheme,the key idea lies at an adaptive procedure to automatically choose the locally smoothest stencil,then reconstruct the coarse-grained material displacement field as the piecewise smooth solutions containing ***,based on the coarse-grained Md data,a two-phase optimizationbased learning approach is proposed to infer the optimal peridynamics model with damage *** the first phase,we identify the optimal nonlocal kernel function from the data sets without material damage to capture the material stiffness ***,in the second phase,the material damage criterion is learnt as a smoothed step function from the data with *** a result,a peridynamics surrogate is *** a continuum model,our peridynamics surrogate model can be employed in further prediction tasks with different grid resolutions from training,and hence allows for substantial reductions in computational cost compared with *** illustrate the efficacy of the proposed approach with several numerical tests for the dynamic crack propagation problem in a single-layer *** tests show that the proposed data-driven model is robust and generalizable,in the sense that it is capable of modeling the initialization and growth of fractures under discretization and loading settings that are different from the ones used during training.

Formulation and evaluation of novel aspirin nanoparticles loaded suppositories

The main objective of the present work is to design aspirin nanoparticles loaded suppositories which will reduce the side effects caused by aspirin suppositories. Aspirin nanoparticles were prepared initially based on ionic-gelation mechanism and lyophilized. The prepared nanoparticles were evaluated, and the results confirmed that Fa9 formulation was the best with greater drug entrapment efficiency. Aspirin suppositories were prepared in order to investigate the best base composition. The prepared suppositories were evaluated and FS1, FS3, FS4, FSS, FS1 l, and FS12 were proved to be the best base compositions based on dissolution performed. The lyophilized aspirin nanoparticles of Fa9 were used to prepare aspirin nanoparticles loaded suppositories. The in vitro results revealed that Fasl 1 was the best formulation.

Impact of FACTS devices on exercising market power in deregulated electricity market

In power system studies, congestion in trans- mission lines and utilization of flexible alternating current transmission system （FACTS） devices are closely associated. These devices are very important due to their role in power delivery system enhancement. It is to be noted that the generation companies can exercise their market power which depends on the line flows, line constraints, generators＇ location and its share to the individual loads. This issue cannot be overlooked as it creates monopoliness which is against the deregulated market policy. The objective of this paper is to study the impact of market power when FACTS devices like thyristor controlled switching capacitor （TCSC） and thyristor controlled phase angle regulator （TCPAR） are used under steady state operation. The market power is determined using nodal must-run share （NMRS） index for the standard IEEE 14- bus system with and without the above FACTS devices and the results obtained are compared. All the above simula- tions are conducted in a MATLAB 7.9-R2009b environment.

Percutaneous image guided thermal ablation has become a cornerstone of therapy for patients with oligometastatic disease and primary liver *** from percutaneous ethanol injection(PEI),thermal ablation utilizing radiofrequency ablation(RFA)and microwave ablation(MWA)have become the standard approach in the treatment of isolated lesions that fit within the size criteria for curative intent therapy(typically 3-4 cm).With the evolution of more intense thermal ablation,such as MWA,the dramatic increase in both the size of ablation zone and intensity of heat generation have extended the limits of this *** a result of these innovations,intra-procedural and post-procedural pain have also significantly increased,requiring either higher levels of intravenous sedation or,in some institutions,general *** addition to the increase in therapeutic intensity,the use of intravenous sedation during aggressive ablation procedures carries the risk of over-sedation when the noxious insult(*** ablation)is removed,adding further difficulty to post-procedural recovery and ***,high subdiaphragmatic lesions become challenging in this setting due to issues relating to sedation and compliance with breath hold/breathing *** general anesthesia may mitigate these complications,the added resources associated with providing general anesthesia during ablation is not cost effective and may result in substantial delays in *** reduction of Aerosol Generating Medical Procedures(AGMP),such as intubation due to the COVId-19 Pandemic,must also be taken into *** to the potential increased risk of infection transmission,alternatives to general anesthesia should be considered when safe and *** abdominal regional nerve block techniques have been used to manage pain related to trauma,surgery,and cancer;however,blocks of this nature are not well described in the interventional radiology ***

Toward a Phylogeny of the Kukri Snakes,Genus Oligodon

The South and Southeast Asian snake genus Oligodon, known for its egg-eating feeding behavior, has been a taxonomically and systematically challenging group. This work provides the first phylogenetic hypothesis for the genus. We use approximately 1900 base pairs of mitochondrial dNA sequence data to infer the relationships of these snakes, and we examine congruence between the phylogeny and hemipenial characters. A hypothesis for the position of Oligodon within the Colubridae is also proposed. We discuss the implications of the phylogeny for previous taxonomic groupings, and consider the usefulness of the trees in analysis of behavior and biogeography of this genus.

Virtual Conductance Based Cascade Voltage Controller for VSCs in Islanded Operation Mode

Voltage source converters have become the main enabler for the integration of distributed energy resources in *** the case of islanded operation,these devices normally set the amplitude and frequency of the network voltage by means of a cascade controller composed of an outer voltage control loop and an inner current control *** strategies to compute the gains of both control loops have been proposed in the literature in order to obtain a fast and decoupled response of the voltages at the point of common *** paper proposes an alternative and simple methodology based on the introduction of a virtual conductance in the classic cascade *** strategy allows to design each control loop independently,obtaining a closed-loop response of a first-order *** this way,the gains of each control loop are easily derived from the parameters of the LC coupling filter and the desired closed-loop time ***,a state observer is included in the controller to estimate the inductor current of the LC filter in order to reduce the number of required measurements.A laboratory testbed is used to validate and compare the proposed *** experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposal both in steady-state and transient regimes.

Relationship between the fatigue behavior and grain structures of an as-extruded Mg-6.2%Zn-0.6%Zr(in wt.%)alloy

Through investigating the tension-tension fatigue behavior of an as-extruded Mg-6.2 wt.%Zn-0.6 wt.%Zr(ZK60)alloy,it revealed that the determined fatigue strength at 107 cycles was quite sensitive to the grain *** them,the fine grain structure had the highest fatigue strength of 130 MPa,whereas the typical“bi-modal”grain structure had the lowest fatigue strength of 110 *** analysis demon-strated that for the fine grain structure,fatigue cracks preferentially nucleated at grain *** the“bi-modal”and coarse grain structures,the fatigue crack initiation was dominated by the cracking along slip bands.

Toxicity Tests of Soil Contaminated by Recycling of Scrap Plastics

The present investigation studied the toxicity of soil contaminated by untreated discharge from a factory that recycles used plastics. The nearby agricultural areas and freshwater fish ponds were polluted with high concentrations of Cu, Ni, and Mn. Water extracts from the contaminated soil retarded root growth of Brassica chinensis (Chinese white cabbage) and Cynodon dactylon (Bermuda grass) where their seeds were obtained commercially. The contaminated populations of C. dactylon, Panicum repen (panic grass), and Imperata cylindrica (wooly grass) were able to withstand higher concentrations of Cu. Ni, and Mn, especially C. dactylon, when compared with their uncontaminated counterparts. 1990 Academic Press, Inc.
