Recognition of human activity based on convolutional neural network(CNN)has received the interest of researchers in recent years due to its significant improvement in accuracy.A large number of algorithms based on the deep learning approach have been proposed for activity recognition ***,with the increasing advancements in technologies having limited computational resources,it needs to design an efficient deep learning-based approaches with improved utilization of computational *** paper presents a simple and efficient 2-dimensional CNN(2-d CNN)architecture with very small-size convolutional kernel for human activity *** merit of the proposed CNN architecture over standard deep learning architectures is fewer trainable parameters and lesser memory requirement which enables it to train the proposed CNN architecture on low GPU memory-based devices and also works well with smaller as well as larger size *** proposed approach consists of mainly four stages:namely(1)creation of dataset and data augmentation,(2)designing 2-d CNN architecture,(3)the proposed 2-d CNN architecture trained from scratch up to optimum stage,and(4)evaluation of the trained 2-d CNN *** illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed architecture several extensive experiments are conducted on three publicly available datasets,namely IXMAS,YouTube,and UCF101 *** results of the proposed method and its comparison with other state-of-the-art methods demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed method.

Mechanical and tribological properties of nanocomposites incorporated with two-dimensional materials

In recent years, attempts to improve the mechanical properties of composites have increased remarkably owing to the inadequate utilization of matrices in demanding technological systems where efficiency, durability, and environmental compatibility are the key requirements. The search for novel materials that can potentially have enhanced mechanical properties continues. Recent studies have demonstrated that two-dimensional (2d) nanomaterials can act as excellent reinforcements because they possess high modulus of elasticity, high strength, and ultralow friction. By incorporating 2d nanomaterials in a composite, 2d nanomaterial-based composites (2dNBCs) have been developed. In view of this, a critical review of recent mechanical and tribological studies based on 2dNBCs has been undertaken. Matrices such as polymers, ceramics, and metals, as well as most of the representative 2d nanomaterial reinforcements such as graphene, boron nitride (BN), molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), and transition metal carbides and nitrides (MXenes) have been included in this review. Their preparation strategies, intrinsic mechanical properties, friction and lubrication performances, strengthening mechanisms, influencing factors, and potential applications have been comprehensively discussed. A brief summary and prospects are given in the final part, which would be useful in designing and fabricating advanced 2d nanocomposites in the future.

Electrochemistry during efficient copper recovery from complex electronic waste using ammonia based solutions

Leaching selectivity during metal recovery from complex electronic waste using a hydrochemical process is always one of the generic issues. It was recently improved by using ammonia-based leaching process, specifically for electronic waste enriched with copper. This research proposes electrodeposition as the subsequent approach to effectively recover copper from the solutions after selective leaching of the electronic waste and focuses on recognising the electrochemical features of copper recovery. The electrochemical reactions were investigated by considering the effects of copper concentration, scan rate and ammonium salts. The diffusion coefficient, charge transfer coefficient and heterogeneous reaction constant of the electrodeposition process were evaluated in accordance with different solution conditions. The results have shown that electrochemical recovery of copper from ammonia- based solution under the conditions of selective electronic waste treatment is charge transfer controlled and provide bases to correlate the kinetic parameters with further optimisation of the selective recovery of metals from electronic waste.

densely populated region of Ganga Plain is facing aquifer vulnerability through waterborne pollutants and groundwater stress due to indiscriminate abstraction,causing environmental and socio-economic *** address long-term groundwater resilience,it is crucial to understand aquifer heterogeneity and connectivity,groundwater recharge sources,effects of groundwater abstraction *** this con-text,present study aims to understand factors responsible for vertical and spatial variability of groundwater chemistry and to identify groundwater recharge sources in an intensively exploited agrarian region of the Ganga *** of chemometric,statistical,and isotopic analysis categorises the alluvial aquifer into zone 1(G1;ground surface to 100 m)and zone 2(G2;>100 m-210 m).The group G1 samples are characterized by a wide variation in hydrochemical species,noted with pockets of F-and NO3-rich groundwater,and fresh to more evolved water types,while group G2 groundwater is characterized by a sharp increase in freshwater types and limited variation in their isotopic and hydrochemical *** G1 groundwater chemistry is governed by soil mineralogy,local anthropogenic inputs(SO42-,Cl-,and NO3-),and manifested by multiple recharge sources(local precipitation,river,canal water,pond).The G2 group is dominated by geogenic processes and mainly recharged by the local *** signatures confirm more evolved water type for group G1 in northwestern region,while fresh-water type covers the rest of the study *** rich groundwater is attributed to sodic water under alkaline conditions and enrichedδ18O values emphasizing role of evaporation in F-mobilization from micas and amphiboles abundant in the *** findings provide insight into potential groundwater vulnerability towards inorganic contaminants,and ground water recharge *** outcome of this study will help to develop aquifer resilience towards indiscriminate groundwater extrac

For centuries, plants and plant-based products have been used as a valuable and safe natural source of medicines for treating various ailments. The therapeutic potential of most of these plants could be ascribed to their anticancer, antidiabetic, hepatoprotective, cardioprotective, antispasmodic, analgesic and various other pharmacological properties. However, several commonly used plants have been reported to adversely affect male reproductive functions in wildlife and humans. The effects observed with most of the plant and plant-based products have been attributed to the antispermatogenic and/or antisteroidogenic properties of one or more active ingredients. This review discusses the detrimental effects of some of the commonly used plants on various target cells in the testis. A deeper insight into the molecular mechanisms of action of these natural compounds could pave the way for developing therapeutic strategies against their toxicity.

Synthesis of Schiff bases of naphtha[1,2-d]thiazol-2-amine and metal complexes of 2-(2'-hydroxy)benzylideneaminonaphthothiazole as potential antimicrobial agents

Objective： A series of 2-benzylideneaminonaphthothiazoles were designed and synthesized incorporating the lipophilic naphthalene ring to render them more capable of penetrating various biomembranes. Methods： Schiff bases were synthesized by the reaction of naphtha[1,2-d]thiazol-2-amine with various substituted aromatic aldehydes. 2-（2＇-Hydroxy）ben- zylideneaminonaphthothiazole was converted to its Co（Ⅱ）, Ni（Ⅱ） and Cu（Ⅱ） metal complexes upon treatment with metal salts in ethanol. All the compounds were evaluated for their antibacterial activities by paper disc diffusion method with Gram positive Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis and Gram negative Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria. The minimum inhibitory concentrations of all the Schiff bases and metal complexes were determined by agar streak dilution method. Results： All the compounds moderately inhibited the growth of Cram positive and Gram negative bacteria. In the present study among all Schiff bases 2-（2＇-hydroxy）benzylideneaminonaphthothiazole showed maximum inhibitory activity and among metal complexes Cu（Ⅱ） metal complex was found to be most potent. Conclusion： The results obtained validate the hypothesis that Schiff bases having substitution with halogens, hydroxyl group and nitro group at phenyl ring are required for the antibacterial activity while methoxy group at different positions in the aromatic ring has minimal role in the inhibitory activity. The results also indicated that the metal complexes are better antibacterial agents as compared to the Schiff bases.

Widespread catastrophic fog episodes in polluted northern India have been attributed to tropical cyclone activity in the Bay of Bengal&Arabian Sea;however,limited studies have been conducted on the effect of tropical cyclone intensity(’T’Numbers)on different fog characteristics in Indo Gangetic Basin,Northern *** this study,different characteristics,including persistence,intensity,and areal extension,were analyzed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport,New delhi during 1998-99,2013-14,and 2016-17.A high-intensity tropical cyclone(Severe to Very Severe Cyclonic Storm)has been found to significantly increase the persistence,intensity,and areal extension of fog by inducing strong subsidence over the IGI Airport/Indo-Gangetic *** knowledge is vital for improving the short-term forecasting of fog in the IndoGangetic Basin of Northern India and will further support the Government agencies to take preventive safety measures and planning well in advance time.

Metronidazole(MTZ)loaded Eudragit S-100(ES-100)nonwoven nanofbrous mats were successfully electrospun and evaluated for intestinal drug *** was varied in the range of 1–15%(w/w)in ES-100 nanofbrous mats,the morphological characterization of nanofbrous mats was carried out using FE-SEM and the average diameter of nanofber was found in the range 150–600 *** and dSC demonstrated the amorphous nature of MTZ in ES-100 nanofbrous *** contact angle analysis confrmed the hydrophobic *** mechanical strength of ES-100 nanofbrous mats decreased with increasing MTZ *** drug release profles showed 74%MTZ release from ES-100d within 2 h at pH 6.8 which is the colonic *** activities against gram-positive bacteria(Staphylococcus aureus)and gramnegative bacteria(Escherichia coli)showed that the ES-100 nanofbrous mats loaded with MTZ exhibited good activity.

Stone Matrix Asphalt(SMA)is a gap graded mix;characterized by higher proportion of coarse aggregate,lower proportion of middle size aggregate and higher proportion of mineral *** the present laboratory study,commonly available one conventional VG 30 bitumen and another modified binder,namely CRMB 60 have been used along with a non-conventional natural fiber,namely coconut fiber which is abundantly available in India to provide improved engineering properties and at the same time preventing the usual draining of binder in *** role of a particular binder and fiber with respect to their concentrations in the mix is studied for various engineering *** procedure has been followed to determine the optimum binder and optimum fiber contents and also to study the relative advantages of fiber addition in the SMA ***,the engineering properties under both static as well as repeated load conditions and moisture susceptibility characteristics have been *** is observed that only a marginal 0.3%coconut fiber addition brings significant improvement in the engineering properties of SMA mixes.

Estimation of Fading Statistics of Nakagami Channel with Weibull distributed Tolerable Outage Time

Characterization of a mobile radio channel plays an important role in designing a reliable wireless communication system. Such channels are analyzed by two state model, namely satisfactory and outage state. This paper presents the analysis to estimate fading parameters of wireless channel with omission of certain outage durations which are considered as “Tolerance time”. Minimum outage duration which can be tolerated by a wireless fading channel to achieve desired packet error rate is defined as tolerance time. Normally a system with tolerable minimum outage time is analyzed based on Fade duration distribution (Fdd) function over Rayleigh channel. In this paper Weibull function is used as Fdd for varying tolerance time. The approach is simple and in general applicable from Rayleigh to Nakagami channels. The analysis is extended to study the effect of Tolerance time on channel fading statistics such as Average Fade duration (AFd) and frequency of outage. Further the effects of various fade margin and doppler spread on fading parameters are also investigated. The analysis can also be used in case of timeout expiration, connection resetting and congestion window control.
